[Q] Custom Shortcut Help - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to know how to set a custom shortcut icon. Im running ADW EX and I know you can add a custom shortcut then click the picture, problem is I am running a theme and I want to use Go SMS with the themed stock messaging icon. Where are those icons located? Is there a way to get to those icons somehow or do i have to extract them? If my question doesnt make sense ill try to clear it up. Thanks!

easiest way is desktop visualizer free app on the market.
Sent from 1.5GHz CM7 Nexus S.

ok ill give that a go. Does anyone know the path to locate the system icons? So I can choose them in the appropiate app.
Edit: Ok so i gave desktop visualizer a go and its exactly what i want. HOWEVER when i choose the messaging icon and the nthe application Go SMS it still brings up the default messaging icon instead of the the themed messaging icon. Any ideas?

Couple of questions...

I installed handcent and now when I get a text I get 2 notifications. How do I delete the at&t app? In titanium backup I only see the ability to remove the preferences but not the program itself.
Also I am running launcher pro and I want to use my tw app drawer icon but its not available when I go to change the icon. How do I get it on there? I can use other tw icons for other apps, just not this one.
Thx

Open Messaging, and on the main list of all your threads hit Menu then settings and disable Notification.
I had the same issue. Don't delete the messaging app. (I don't know if you should or shouldn't, so I wouldn't), just disable the notifications.
Edit: Gotten from here: http://www.handcent.com/Faq.php
It's an excellent sms replacement imo.

[Q] customizations

I've done my research can't find the answer. I like how you can use custom icons with launcher pro. I like the text look for icons. I dont like the launcher pro setup. I like how the original 7 screens are set up with 2.2 ota. Using launcher pro you can't get the widgets like on the original screens. I have each page set up the way i like and have found no way to do it using lp.
I would like to know if there is a way to replace the icons with the text in the original 2.2 ota. Is there an icon changer program that allows this?
How do you make custom icons?
All help appreciated. Thanks, Eric
I've used ADW and launcher pro both and they both have a custom shortcut option. I used it to change my messaging icon recently.

The best quick and easy way is adw, better home, LP etc. other than that. Pull every apk from your phone and edit its icon and push back.

I use the custom short cut option works great for my needs.
Its much easier to use something like LauncherPro. Its a great app and is completely customizable.
If you go with the LauncherPro method... check out the customizations and icons and what not here

Leaked Gingerbread Lockscreen Icons?

Is there any way to modify the icons that are displayed on the lockscreen? I bought bettercut for that purpose, but it seems that I can't use it to change the icons on the lockscreen itself, just make shortcuts with new icons.

Menu -> Settings -> Personalize -> Lockscreen -> chose the lockscreen you want then press "settings" Form here, you should be able to change the icons.
I'm no longer running GB so the above is from memory.
Also, if you're using another launcher, you have to go back to the Sense launcher to make the change. Once you change it, you can go back to your launcher of choice.

I don't think the op is talking about just changing the shortcut but more so the icon that is displayed for that shortcut.
This is just an example but something like instead of the stock gmail icon maybe a happy face.

Make Msg icon open non default Sms app

Is there a way to make the ICS green message icon open GO SMS instead of the stock app? I like the icon cause it flows with the homescreen, and the go sms one is ugly haha. Just wondering if theres a way to keep the stock sms icon but re route to open go sms? i dont really want to install a home launcher either.
Just edit the icon. Get Gosms apk and replace the icon.

[Q] Change icons?

Hello all,
New Galaxy S2 user here. Coming from a line of exclusively HTC Sense phones and ROMs.
I'm wondering if it's possible (and easy) to change the icons for default apps in CM9 or TW based ROMs? Specifically the "Messaging" icon - I hate the "smiley" face. Makes me feel 12 years old again.
I've done a few searches, but I'm not looking to replace the entire icon set or the ROM or theme... just one icon.

The hard way is to download the apk, open it up, replace the images with the ones you want, repackage it, and reinstall it. The easy way is to use a launcher that allows you to change the icon. I know Apex and Nova do, not sure about any others.

Also check out "Desktop Visualizer" in the market .
But as already mentioned ....the different launchers are the best & easiest way.
Holo launcher is another one.
Good Luck.

Go Launcher as well. Go, Nova, and Apex have the ability to use icon sets made for each other.
Hmmm... going to an entirely different launcher seems like overkill, but I guess if it works...
There used to be apps on the Market that would allow you to create shortcuts with different icons (BetterCut comes to mind, but the dev pulled it from the Market entirely).
If you don't want a new launcher, try Desktop Visualizer (though I have yet to figure out how to get it to use an existing icon pack). There are a lot of options in it and it's a great program.
