Guys,
This is really bothering me. It's something very minimal but I like nothing but a perfect screen.
These are not scratches. They seem to be abrasions, a chemical reaction or something under the screen.
I want to return the phone for this defect (its been one weekend).
Should I exchange or just get a full refund, let me hear your feedback.
Thanks
I can't post pictures to show you guys...(xda doesnt let me)

Without pictures its a little difficult to diagnose the problem so I would suggest you either upload the pictures to tinypic.com and post the links here as text and not links or pm them to someone (like myself) who can post them for you.
That said, this sounds like an issue I was reading about a few days ago and from my memory wiping the screen with a paper towel helped. I can't remember whether it was supposed to be wet or dry but I would try wet first.
Here are the pictures for others benefit:

As I said, try wiping it down with a wet paper towel.
I had that too. Didn't seem to come off. When I received my clairevue screen protector it came with a special wipe, that magically removed the defect. I couldn't believe it.

One idea I had was that this may have been caused by the oils in my hands
I think it may be the oleophobic coating wearing off... perhaps it rubbed quite hard against something to create that pattern. Cleaning it (with an alcoholic wipe) or something will make the screen look perfect, once you get oil on the screen the pattern will come back... exchange it.
They really half-assed the oleophobic coating on this phone... screen protector is a must, which defeats the purpose of having the coating in the first place.
Is the coating that thin? I believe that you are right. It does suck because I have oily hands.
I will try and exchange it tomorrow. Maybe this is a bad apple.
Oh and dinan, the trouble with me is that I like a completely naked phone.
Me too, but I fear I have no choice with this one. My first phone I had exchanged due to some weird black banding on the screen, but it also had some "splotch" like areas where the coating had worn off, not sure how... since I don't touch those areas much and I never dropped it. The 2nd phone is perfect, but I fear it'll develop the same thing unless I protect it somehow.

It appears to be a very common problem that the black paint on the Captivate's ear-piece has a tendency to scratch off VERY easily.
I am curious as to know how many people actually got fed up with trying to repair this awful blemish; and decided to just scratch all the paint off to make it look better.
Personally I removed the black paint completely and kind of like the silver that remains.
What are your thoughts?
What? I've never heard anyone mention this. My paint is fine.
first I've heard of this, and mine is just fine as well.
The paint literally flaked off of mine just by rubbing my thumb on it.
No issues here, maybe you got a defective model?

This is bizarre I've never heard of this happening lol
If my model is defective, I don't think they would ever replace it because it's physical damage.
no problem here either,,if they sound good your good to go

I actually don't talk on the device very often, I'm more so a texter
Anyway, it was more from putting the phone in and out of my pocket:

Mine is fine and i carry it in my pocket with no case. I would think that the piece would be annodized and not painted. Probably got one with a bad grille. If you complain enough they may replace it - hard to say.
In all honesty, it literally started as a small chip in the "paint"; I touched that up with a sharpie.
Next day I had another chip, I rubbed it with my thumb and more came off - at that moment I decided to just rub the rest off and it just flaked away into dust.
Never thought of it....My phone is a tool not a piece of jewelery. Scratches and blemishes don;t bother me. I don;t use a s case and carry it in my pocket with keys and crap. I do use a screen protector though. As far as paint goes...Meh..not worth worrying about of "fixing"
Today was the first day that I really cleaned my screen on transformer. I have had for three weeks and am very careful with it. Today I noticed a centimeter sized scratch in the middle. Here is my question. I am a hella lot rougher with my droidx and it never gotten a scratch on the screen. The droid x I have now is about 6 months old still nothing. Aren't they supposed to have the same screen. Gorilla glass I think. Did anyone else notice a scratch on theirs? I can't return it because I got it from Tiger Direct. Honestly it ins't a big deal I am just picky. I do have one coming from amazon this week though. Hmm...

Anyone else?
I bet its not a scratch, as I've thought the same thing before. Take your nail and put it over a microfiber cloth, then try to scratch it off. I bet its build up

If it is a scratch, you need to think about removing your Mr. T gold bling jewellery before you use your tablet. Diamonds, etc don't play nice with gorilla glass.
If you only noticed the scratch AFTER you had cleaned the screen, could be that you scratched it with the cleaning cloth.
I don't wear jewelry.
It's really a scratch too. I tried scraping it off with my finger nail. I honestly have no clue how I got it. Maybe they don't use as thick as screen as my droid x. I really baby my transformer and bam a scratch.

I doubt it. I actually used wipes made for electronics. I meant as in its the first time i got rid of my finger prints.
I also had a tiny scratch in the center of mine that I did not notice until I turned it off and cleaned it. Everything else came off the screen. It also was in the middle of the screen. Mine was only a day old, so I called BJ's Wholesale and returned it. I wouldn't have cared if it was anywhere else on the screen. It was so small it was hard to tell if it was a scratch or possibly an imperfection under the screen. I am hoping my next one won't have the same thing.
See, to those people who say "Gorilla Glass doesn't scratch"!
Still need a screen protector.

I was a firm believer of that because my droid x never had a scratch.
So i'm guessing no but can this be covered under asus' warranty?
Probably not because it isn't a manufacturing defect.

Didn't think so.. Still might try. The body cracks like when I hold it. I noticed it from using it in the sun. It heated up and got loose. I don't know if you know what I mean but it is like it melted the glue.
My wife dropped hers recently and broke the glass. I found the glass and tools on ebay for like $30, and even found a youtube video that steps through everything you need to do. I just wanted to know if I'm taking on something I shouldn't.

well it depends if you are up for the task.
If you have no experience with tearing apart electronics, I would watch some videos first. Different ones, so you can really get a feel of what's going on. It's important to be very gentle, usually no force required.
Make sure you work on a static free surface (I.e. NOT carpet or your bed) and keep all screws in one place. I've seen teardown videos of our phone, it's not that bad.

thanks blue6ix! i'm up for it, i just wanted to see if anyone else had actually done it after seeing it the videos/pictures and were completely overwhelmed/ill-prepared.
As with any other phone, be VERY VERY careful with ribbon cables. I swear, those things will tear if you blow on them.

new screen has arrived. will let you know how the replacement goes.
Yeah, um, don't do this if you haven't done something like it before or aren't prepared. Phone is back together with new glass, but it's in NO WAY as solid as it used to be. I feel like I need to take it apart again and glue some things down - the adhesive provided was not enough.

Did you take any photos?
only one of it all apart on my desk at work. This video and these pics were spot on, but more emphasis should be put on the adhesive that hold the lcd panel to the metal backing - that was the worst and required the most time, and a hair dryer or heat gun isn't just recommended, it's necessary.
I'm using you as a guide. Mine is getting irritating with all the dust, so I'll invest on the glue strip first.
Also, during your shopping, did you by any chance run into any keyboard replacements? The wife's one is repeating a lotta letters and she's been repeating a lotta comments to me....
I just got this case a few days ago, and I love it!! I'm wondering how you clean the black part though, I notice that you put it in any non super clean surface and it the black back gets smudged. See picture below, I've tried cleaning it with a micro cloth but it doesn't help much, i'm afraid to use any liquid, any suggestions?? Also I noticed that after a couple of days, the area around the camera and led flash is raised, not touching the back cover of phone, i didn't notice this until today, not sure if it was my fault putting it on or if this happened to anyone else? I bought it through amazon, and got a genuine code..

Yeah, its really the drawback from Neo Hybrid (the camera part). you can clean it with dishwashing liquid..
It's really easy to clean. Just take the case off, remove the plastic frame, and put a couple drops of dishwasher soap on it and a little bit of water. Rub the foam all over the case with your hands and rinse it off. Dry it as much as possible. The case will literally look brand new and will show those shiny sparkles on the black part again.
Thanks guys will try to clean it tonight..so the raised part around camera is normal?? I thought maybe I got a deffective one, doesnt bother me much I just wanted to make sure it wasnt just mine.

The phone itself is raised there, and they didn't cut it properly. It's not a huge problem but you can always cut it a little bit on the inside (and risk ruining the case in the process ).

I know this is an older thread, but did you have any luck cleaning the case op? I tried dish soap but it didnt work. I'm about to try using that industrial orange hand cleaner stuff because it is abrasive but that might realla damage the case... This smudge on the back of my case is killing me!

I used an alcohol pad to clean mine and afterwards i had two black fingerprints on the alcohol pad showing how much dirt came up......looks brand new
Thanks in advance for anyone that happens to read and/or respond this thread.
So, my S7 slipped and fell to the floor last sunday. It didn't fall a great distance, neither did it hit the floor with violence. But on the bottom of the screen something appeared, seeming like "a bubble of air".

Should I send it to Samsung? Did I lose my water/dust resistance? And, most important, should I worry about it?
Thanks again.

Hi Mate
On top of the amoled screen is a layer of glass , it seem it broke or it detached ( cant distinguish ) , that glass is part of the water resistance scheme , most like it is compromise , I do not know is warranty will cover it.......if i am not wrong in order to fix it they will have to replace the whole display

Yeah, I mean, that's what I fear. Should I take it to Samsung?
hey bro ,
first of all i feel your pain :silly::silly:
second of all i think if you take it to Samsung they will replace the screen so you're going to lose the water/dust resistance anyways (cuz we all know that if the screen is replaced the resistance won't be as good as new at all )
so i recommend you to keep it like that and just buy a good protective case so it won't get worse if you drop it again
hope i helped

Happened with my S6 as well, I think the layer indeed got loose there (prolly it will gather some dust and stuff).
In my case it didn;t really seem to spread further, but as it is the result of dropping it I guess you'll have to pay to fix it (for me not worth it as it was about half the price of the phone).

Mate it all depends on the cost of the fixing....if is free or cheap enough i would do it...if done by Samsung....if is too expensive i would think about it
