Tasker! Grr! - Galaxy Tab Themes and Apps

Hi all
I've just purchased Tasker after reading Paul's recommendations on modaco.
The first task I'm trying to set up is a GPS one listed on the Tasker wiki but it just won't activate. I choose the apps, GPS on, exit task GPS off. But when I press apply it says active in status bar but when I scroll down it says no active profiles
Also the button is definetly ON!
Thanks in advance guys

So when your app launches, you have it enabling GPS and then disabling it again when the app exits, is that correct?

Yeah I fixed it, needed to add variables the site I read off didnt tell me that lol

APN auto on/off

i noticed that the battery time was way better when the apn was off. nervertheless, i am using weather widget that needs to be updated regularly. i need to do web surfing from time to time. all that means i am not likely to manually set my apn all the time. is there any app. that can set apn automatically? in another word, the app. is able to turn on apn whenever necessary and turn it off in the rest times to optimize the battery time.
i look forward to your advise, thanks.

you can use the app "extended controls", herewith you can add a widget to your homescreen, with what you can set your apn to off or on with only one click...
includes also a lot of other functionalities like all kind of connections (wifi, gps,...), sync, lock, reboot, torch, battery and many, many more.
i like it a lot, gives me everything i need...

thanks you so much, though it didnt exactly solve my problem because i still have to manually set apn or switch the neywork between 2G and 3G.
extended controls is a very nice-looking and useful app to replace the built-in one. many toggles can be added and it is a surprise that the theme can be modified to meet one's requirements.
im sorry i couldnt do anything with twitter as you requested because we Chinese are not allowed to access to twitter, facebook, youtube etc.

Broken active apps widget?

Active apps widget popup unable to switch to app? it only kills the app i click on, even if i try to change the widget settings... does this work for anyone ells?

Hi there, i am the developer of active apps. It appears that the widget active apps 1x1 is bugged.in the area you just mentioned.
I will provide a fix for that soon. Meanwhile you can enable control panel in widget. On pop up, Click on second button to switch mode.
Please send me email for the bug next time as the original thread has been deleted by mod.
Thanks.
Ahh OK thanx.... i did change to application istead of popup, the popup looks nice tho so i look forward to the fix.

It has just been fixed and uploaded to the market now. Let me know if the same bug still occur.
Btw, There will be two small buttons on pop up if you enable the control panel from the widget.
1st one is to kill all
2nd is switch between mode. Kill or switch.
So when you click on the app, it should act as according to the mode you choose.
Give it a try.
And thanks. .hope the app did help you in someway or another.
Thanx, switching in popup works great now, the control panel switching between kill and switch does not work tho... it's still allways switching no matter what i choose.
I love this app / widget....

Set certain apps to startup on boot?

I want groove ip and twitter to start on boot because sometimes i forget and groove ip is my source for voice calls.
Is there an app that will allow me to do this? I looked in the market but could only find apps that could disable apps from auto starting

Tasker can do what you are asking just set up a profile to run on device boot.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
I got tasker but i have no idea how to set up the profile lol
No problem, to set it up open up tasker:
On main window click New 'bottom center' enter a name for the profile somwthing like' auto start'
Now from the First Context menu select 'Event'
From the Select Event Category select 'System'
Now select 'Device Boot'
Ok, now you should be at the Task Selection Dialog click 'New Task' and give it a name eg 'Apps startup' but any name will do.
From here the Task Edit window click the Plus sign at the bottom right
Click 'App'
Then 'Load App'
Give it a second for the apps to spawn and choose the app you want to auto start.
Once selected click done on the new window
Repeat the last 2 steps for all the apps you want to auto load.
Once you have selected all the apps you wanted to load on start up. Click 'Done' on all windows till you are back to the main tasker window. Hit 'Apply' and you should be all set up.
Should the icon on the top right of the main menu be a check or ban sign?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
A check mark means active the red ban sign means inactive. So make sure it's the check mark.

No problem, hope out works for you.

Hi! How to make an app be launched in the background / minimized? It there a universal parameter there to use with launching an app task? Like -m / -minimized or something like that?

Killing an app

Ok, this is my first day with this marvelous device. I installed Tweet caster, as it was my go to twitter app on my EVO. After I installed Tweet Comb and became fascinated by it, tweet caster on the xoom just doesn't carry too far.
Right now, both are giving me notifications and it's annoying, but I don't want to uninstall caster, either. Other than a reboot, what will fix this issue? Can't you simply exit an app? Do I need an app killer? I've been told app killers are unnecessary with Android, but on my EVO I use the app killer all the time.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
I don't use either app, but check the settings. You should be able to turn off notifications. In settings, apps, manage apps though you can stop an app. DO NOT USE A TASK MANAGER.
I agree that task managers that automatically kill apps are no longer required by android. However, in order to close apps easily I use an app called Active Apps, since a lot of apps tend to linger in the background. Put the widget on your desktop and it will give you a running tally of how many apps are running and allow you to opt to quit one or all of them.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
I don't know if this will be easier for you, but if you have to kill an app you can also find the app in the drawer and drag it onto the "i" , which will take you to the same spot as finding the app in "settings/applications/manage applications/" then finding the app.

Tasker - Run task when a full screen app is opened, run another when it's closed

So I have just started using the excellent NotifierPro, which is nice, but I don't want it running all the time. I only really want it when I'm in a full screen app (e.g. a game) and the status bar is hidden. Enter, Tasker. I have managed to create tasks to enable and disable the NotifierPro service quite easily (the developer helpfully provides intents for doing this), but I'm having trouble figuring out how to trigger them. I basically want to trigger the "enable" task whenever I enter any app that hides the status bar, and trigger the "disable" task when I exit that app (i.e. switch to another app that does not hide the status bar).
Any Tasker gurus able to point me in the right direction for appropriate contexts to use to trigger these tasks at the desired times? Thanks in advance.
I would also really like to know if this is even doable.
