[Q] 3g/4g fileshare with cifsmanager and neorouter - Android Apps and Games

I am trying to mount a shared folder from an xp desktop to my samsung epic (stock 2.1), using cifsmanager and neorouter over 3G/4G.
Neorouter network is working great with shares from between various desktop computers.
I get jammed up when attempting to mount the share on the android.
I configure a dynamic port forward on the android ap for the fileshares (445), then forward it to the target computer (long press).
Then I go into cifsmanager, and I believe this is where I am having problems. I enter in localhost:32973/My Documents. I also tried "10.0.0.1/My Documents" and "10.0.0.1:32973/My Documents" all with and without credentials, and also tried dropping the share.
Can anyone please help me out with this?
Thank you!

Windows Mobile 6 (Vario III) accessing UNC paths via File Explorer

Hi,
I have my Vario III connected to the home wireless setup. The Vario III can access the Internet without a problem. It can also access internal web services without problems. However, what it cant seem to do is open a UNC path via File Explorer, i.e. \\server1\share. I get path cannot be found. I've tried it with the IP address as well. i.e. \\192.168.x.y\share. Still doesn't work.
I am not even challenged for user credentials. I am an IT pro of 8 years and can swear on oath that my networking setup is sound (these are shares that I use every day from a variety of devices in and around the house).
Can someone tell me what WM6's File Explorer's "Open Path" function is actually good for? I remember being able to successfully browse network shares on a Dell Axim (PPC2005) device not to long ago.
If someone has a moment could you please see if yours works. Have come across a few people with the same problem (after Googling the problem). However, no solution found to date.
Thanks

Resco Explorer Networking (map drive) problem :(

Hi All,
I'm trying to map network drive using the Resco Explorer, however Resco does not see the SAMBA (3.2.5) shares
There is nothing in sambas log suggesting the HD2 is trying to connect.
I had no problems with wm6.1 but on my 6.5.x it doesn't work.
I was searching the forum but couldn't find the answer. Anyone has an idea? Maybe someone managed to solve this?
maybe this?

instead of COMPUTER\DISK, try this: \\COMPUTER\SharedDocs (=name of the shared folder on my pc)
this works with me, good luck!

Yep, I did exactly this the other day.
Resco doesn't see samba shares directly (like a windows PC would see them in my network places or whatever), so you have to tell Resco the location.
I have an ubuntu server called "ubuntu", and my shares are "music", "photos" and so on. To get resco to see the shares I typed:
\\ubuntu\music
\\ubuntu\photos
etc...
Note, it wont work based on IP addresses (that was what originally caused my problem).
To find out your PC name (if you don't know it) on a windows machine, hold the windows key, hit pause break, and then click on computer name (this is for XP).
Cheers.
blog post about this very subject
I got it too sometimes. I dont know the reason tho.
But hey it is so easy to set it up manually.
It is longer but will work anyways. Try the method the guy 2 posts above me posted with \\COMPUTERNAME\SHAREDFOLDER
WIll work if you are in the same network.
Ah and make sure not to connect via mobile network but with WiFi as then you are not in the same net.
Thanks all of you!
It works at least partially...
Works for shares without password, doesn't work for password protected shares. When i put \\computer\myshare and then press ok then I'm asked for user name and password. As soon as I fill them in the application freezes (maybe it tries to connect?) I gave it 5 minutes and then I had to reset HD2
Strange problem
I reinstalled resco but no improvements.
Thanks again
Yeah i noticed that one too.
Do not use pass protection on shares.
It must be a bug in the Resco Explorer.
Before i thought i made a fault but i never tried it out again as i assume a freeze as not too good for the device LOL
I'm not sure where the problem is. I tried the same on P3600 (trinity) with wm6.5. It does not freeze, but is re-asking for credentials, so I guess there are two problems:
1) resco on hd2 freezes (probably when the resco cannot connect - bug)
2) authentication problem?
Probably I'll skip the password protection until someone will find the solution...
Works fine here. It sees the shares on my XP machine, but not on the 2 Win7 ones so I have to enter them manually for those. All 3 have password protection.
On one of the W7 machines it "freezes" for about 10 seconds the first time I access the share after a soft reset, for the others it comes instantly. But that particular volume is huge (a 80% full 1.5TB drive) so it might have to do with it if it lists the contents, the others only have like 30GB on them.
You might want to try menu->settings, if you have data active as well as wifi then uncheck autodetection, and delete the network entry (or entries) that aren't your local wifi.
It can happen that it finds nothing or hangs if it tries searching the cell provider's network (that can have tons of hosts) instead of your local one.

Yes - no problem for windows, I'm struggling with SAMBA (linux) shares.
Fixed freezing/credential issues when mapping drives on my HD2
Hi guys,
I had the same problem of my HTC HD2 freezing in the Network Log On dialogue when trying to map a drive, and also the issue where I was repeatedly asked for credentials which would never save. I managed to solve this issue, though in my case the problem was actually due to the network share settings on my NAS device (which is a QNAP TS-109).
What I did to remedy my problem was:
Go to the Administration page through the web-based interface for my TS-109.
Go to the Access Right Management menu.
Go to the Share Folders section.
Click on the Access Control icon for the folder I wanted to map.
Under the Guest Access Right drop-down menu I changed Deny Access to Read Only.
After that I was able to log in with my admin username and password, and to save the mapped drive on my HTC HD2 (I mapped drives successfully using both Resco File Explorer 2010 and HTC Network Plugin 1.0).
Hopefully this will work for anyone else experiencing this problem with a QNAP NAS, or if not then hopefully following similar steps on your NAS will yield favourable results.
Kate.
I am using HD2 with a Qnap NAS . Initially , got problem mapping drive as described by previous post . I did not do any changes on NAS . But , in the resco password page , i uncheck permanent login . Seems did the trick . Able to mapped folder on the NAS , even Hidden folders also . Hope this helps .

I've post this in Resco Explorer Forum, just yesterday:
Re: File Explorer hangs when mapping Network Drive on WM 6.5
First, excuse me for my bad english (I'm italian).
I think to be solved the bug in this mode (I've a Netgear STORA NAS):
- select "Work" instead of "Internet settings" in wi-fi network adapter
- select "Work" instead of "Internet settings" in your wi-fi connection
Now, I can succesfully map all my shared resources and add them in "My Network", but I can't use wi-fi to connect in Internet.
So I've revert both the above settings to "Internet settings" ad all it's ok, browsing in Internet and accessing to my network folder on NAS.
I think that the bug is present only when we try to map a network folder the first time.
I hope to be useful to solve our problem.
Bye
Although last post is long time ago, and mine is too recent. yet I hope it would be useful to somebody, and be able to repay the great advantages I myself got from XDA forum.
HardwareC with Win7 Home Prem, HTC HD2 with RescoExplorer v.8, Wifi Connection
first, as most of the posts, I can see PC while mapping in RescoExplorer.
yet when expanding the +, I had to enter username and password, then I get an error.
well, what I did is that I shared a folder with everyone full access on my PC.
then on resco mapping I typed the full path, i.e. \\computername\sharedfolder
then, I got it...
NOTE: when exiting Resco, and accessing the mapped folder, I still had to enter my windows username and password to access my PC shared folder that has no password...
Thus, I think when sharing a folder with a password, Resco goes nuts. for two passwords must be applied...

Can anyone tell me how Mount a Network Drive on Xoom?

With the Tiamat 1.3 kernal installed (along with the cifs.ko module as well), I wanted to Mount a Shared network drive on my Xoom so it will act like a local folder on my Xoom. With File Expert, I can see the shared network drive in the Network tab but it will not mount. It says Mount Failed when I try it. Next, I use Mount manager and it will tell me that the device does not exist when I enter the IP address with the shared path. Do anyone have another way of mounting the Drive on my Xoom?
having the same issue so would love some guidance on connecting to a drive on my network. It's on an Ubuntu laptop. Not having luck, whereas it was easy on my wife's iphone4 via vlc streamer.
Youtube search or a search here will bring it up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlvAoHmTkqU

This is more of a reverse of what he is looking for. This is for mounting the xoom's hd as a network drive.
There are a couple of cifs programs out tere, but I have not been able to get them to work either. If I come across anything or resolve it, i'll post it here.

I installed file expert, and I am able to mount my worldbook nas box, but when I go into the folders, I can't download any of the files. I have verified that I am logged in with the right credentials. I'll need to muck with it a little more.
I would just check your settings. Are trying to mount a network drive or a shared drive?

I found a solution
I found a solution to this problem. I create a new thread in the Xoom General area under the name "How to Mount a Network Drive for Streaming Videos, Music and More"

Looking for remote file access

I've found tons of remote desktop apps, but is there anything that will just access my filesystem? Hopefully as clean and as intuitive as astro or es. Maybe I'm just searching the wrong stuff, maybe astro and es can do this but i don't know how.
note: i want to be able to do this from the internet, not the same network.
Thanks all
if you mean access your tab from somewhere else then it is possible. you could ftp into it by using the ftp server app on your tab and note down the external ip.

Depending on what you are trying to do there are various solutions. To access my tab from my desktop I use WiFi File Explorer. To access my computer files remotely I use Tonido and PocketCloud Explore.
I use PocketCloud Explore to access my file system. It works great.

+1 for WiFi File Explorer, too. That's also a great app.
Personally I suggest setting up a ftp server. It is very versatile and can be accessed anywhere in the world with an Internet connection.
Mozilla has a good, easy, and and most importantly free one called FileZilla. Both astro and es have ftp support so getting to your files will be easy, and seemless.

I'm a lazy bastard. I use either SSHFS or SMB/CIFS. FTP is not as secure as SFTP.
If you have a SSH server on the host, you can FUSE mount it as a file system over SSH by way of SSHFS. My tablet can both mount hosts (sshfs package in Debian chroot) and be mounted by my PCs, netbook, etc. SFTP is also possible but wasteful IMHO.
SMB/CIFS - Windows network shares. You can access files on machines using a client. You can access your /mnt/sdcard from another machine by installing a server on your tablet.
I use "Samba Filesharing" from the market place and can access my tablets storage from PC perfectly fine. Like wise a client can be used to access a Windows box or a unix box or Android device with Samba (or simillar server). I use File Manager HD (menu->LAN connection) or SharesFinder to access network shares from my tablet. Astro has a plugin for it, just go to the market and Google. On my PCs, I use Windows Explorer and Samba (client) to access files on my tablet.
The Prime ROM also comes with CifsManager, which can mount file systems over the same protocol and make them appear as part of your tablets storage. So two way is possible very easily. PC's can do the same to the tablet when running a server like Samba.
In my experience: SMB/CIFS isn't as good as SSHFS for such stuff but when Windows is in the mix, it's best, and works better with Android than FTP or NFS, and is perhaps the most reliable.
For any access via the Internet you may have to configure port forwarding on your router (both at home and e.g. at work) to your machine. SSHFS/SFTP works best for that, FTP and SMB/CIFS are greater configuration pain, depending on your packet filters.

Some of you were a little off... I want to access files on my desktop from my TF. Sounds like ftp is going to be it.
Thnx all
I use FileManager HD to access my NAS and other shared computer files.......it's easy to configure, has great functionality, looks good, and is free.

Is there a way to mount a network Windows folder as a local folder on my phone?

Hello!
I am having a surprisingly difficult time finding anything about this that isn't from 2011 or earlier. A lot of apps on my phone will ONLY let you browse local folders (ie: /storage/emulated/0/) and that's it. I know that some file explorers let you browse your network folders but that isn't what I need. I need one of my Windows 10 folders to show up under /storage/emulated/0/whatever because a lot of apps won't let me browse on the network. Long story short, I need to map a network drive on my phone.
I am rooted and have an unlocked bootloader on the stock ROM. I am pretty good at figuring this stuff out on my own but the only results I find are from a very old app called CIFS Manager which does not work on recent phones. Does anybody know any way I can accomplish this? I would greatly appreciate it!
I use Root Explorer from Speed Software (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.speedsoftware.rootexplorer). It allows you to connect and manage files on SMB drives (Windows shares) as well as Google Drive, Dropbox, USB, etc etc
Thanks; I am aware of Root Explorer but that's not what I need. I need a way to mount a network folder as a local folder, so that every app (even those without network support) can access the files.
Best suggestion I can make is to build a kernel module to load ntfs-3g, then mount via a script.
