LCDDensity Reboot - Android Apps and Games

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about ho to tweak LCDDensity. I love this app. It makes everything fit in the screen on my Vibrant perfectly. The only minor complaint I have is that every time I want to switch the settings I have to reboot my phone. Is there any way to tweak this app so that I don't have to reboot my phone for the changes to take effect? I know absolutely nothing about programing so this might not be possible but I though I would put it out there.

Easiest way is unistall the app.
Use root explorer to go to your system folder. hit the button on top saying "mount R/W", longpress on the build.prop to choose open in text editor. scroll down to where you see "density=160" or something like that (should say 160 though). and press menu then save and quit.
Reboot.
Done.

Ignore the above poster who didn't read your post.
Sorry but there isn't a way to do it without rebooting, because the file that holds the information only gets read during boot.

default program settings

i keep being asked which app i would like to perform actions - i make a selection & all is fine until the phone is rebooted, then off it goes again.
i've trawled the general system settings looking for a toggle but failed to find anything related to default settings storage.
any help appreciated
my set-up is in my sig.

Probably another program overriding your selections. Try try going to Menu button on your phone and select Settings option, scroll down to the Applications section and tap it. On the next screen, tap Manage Applications and then the All tab on the subsequent screen, scroll down the list of apps until you see the App in question listed and tap that entry. On the next screen look for the "Launch by default" section and hit the Clear defaults button. Reboot and select the default program you want and see if it sticks on the next reboot. Let me know if this helps.

good logical advice, which you would assume would do the trick.
unfortunately, it doesn't fix the problem
i was wondering if there's a file somewhere whch can be edited & locked?
im not 100% sure where those things are saved, maybe in settings.db file of the android settings app.
Check your phones app directory, there should be something like
com.android.providers.settings and com.android.settings
I could imagine that the filepermissions are wrong on certain files and thus your new selection are not saved.
i've searched for hours with no success for a db file. i do believe you are on the right trac but it'll take a smarter mind than my own to highlight where the setting is hiding.
there is a lockscreen toggle option on the redux2 rom, so i've asked over there.
thank you both for your thoughts

Auto Hide Taskbar

Hey bro i get this app from the market Honeybar it work great with root access.
I work with touchwiz work 100%.
Program tested MX Video Player,Dolphin Browser HD.
It works well and I suggest using Button Savior in conjunction. Barely seen my taskbar in a week
Works pretty well, main problems I have with it are accidentally re-enabling the taskbar in games (tapping near the bottom), and also accidentally hiding it when trying to hit the 'menu' button in portrait mode. They're too close together so it's hard to avoid hitting it.
I asked the author about the possibility of other trigger locations, or gestures, and he responded but didn't sound like he planned to do anything soon.
I installed HB myself, and although it is nice in some ways to get the taskbar (I use that reference with tongue'in'cheeck) out of the way, there are too many apps I have that place "menu" in the location of the hidden button even when I set it to shift left. Many apps I have to rotate to landscape to get to the apps settings menu hidden behind the shift-left positioning for HB. It's just not a sound UI choice.
The option to just leave the taskbar hidden and use Button Savior is better, but it's like using one hack to make another one work halfway correctly in its effects. HB needs more development and it doesn't look like it's going to happen as of now.

Thanks very much for your info. Yeah... this Button Savior is a real true name in case of the HoneyBar's gone somewhere..
Problem I see with using Button Savior all the time is that you do lose the notifications.. and then it's still easy to accidentally bring back the real bar when playing games etc. Oh well.

I don't know about the games... the notification is hiding except the sound but the real trouble is when the call is coming.... you have to activate the task bar to bring back the panel "Answer or Denied" (!!!)
FYI

I did indeed get quite angry at the loss of notifications but I was able to (sort of) get around that by changing the screen density to 171 using Blade Buddy. This set me back to a 2.x launcher.
It doesn't really work 100% however as browser, Gmail, Google Talk will constantly crash. I was able to work around the browser by just getting another browser and Gmail by uninstalling the Honeycomb version of Gmail and installing the Gingerbread version. I didn't care enough to do anything more than uninstall Google Talk.
On the positive side I no longer have to deal with the taskbar. Ever.

Does the Gingerbread version have the Gingerbread UI? i.e. without the multi-paned stuff? I tried loading a Gingerbread version a while back but it didn't work (just crashed). I prefer Gingerbread style -- more room for the content rather than lists of labels.

Yes this is exactly my only issue with honeybar. it would be nice if we could choose the right side as the "offset". Even in portrait I have space just to the right of center that would allow access to honeybar on/off and not interfere with the menu on a lot of apps.
There's a much better way to do this. Using tasker, I have a profile set up that auto hides the toolbar for certain apps and then restores it automatically when I switch away from them.
Follow the instructions in this thread:

Yes but how do you switch away from them?
That is actually what I am trying to figure out how to do. I am trying to set it up when in specific apps it takes away the task bar but also only within these apps after something... (haven't really figured that out yet) happens it will bring it back for an exit. In a perfect world I would love to be able to press both volume buttons to close an app. Which in this case would be perfect but tasker can't do that...
I'm using task switcher pro. It lets you map a gesture to the back button or home button.

what might be cool is to "shake" device to bring back the bar.
you guy also can use AutomateIt... kind of like tasker but to me it more friendly user...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1123423
and the pro version is cheaper too...
Using tasker I did manage to make the bar go away by shaking. Instead of setting programs to do it make it toggle the bar by using a shake. I don't have it in front of me to do step by step but if someone wants me to I can put it up.
I would most certainly love to see that "How too" Zadeis.
Thanks.
Here you go!

OK the link smaug408 put up leads to a guide on how to set up a task that when an App starts it will remove the bar at the bottom. The thing is though you no longer have a back button and get out of the app unless it has a dedicated exit button.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1301857
I take no credit for the premade files for tasker. The thanks goes to the creator Quietthinker through that link.
-First Open the link and download the attached StatusBarToggle.zip and place the files into /sdcard/Tasker/tasks (in this case you will only need the StatusBarToggle.tsk.xml, the StatusBar_Hide.tsk.xml, and the StatusBar_Show.tsk.xml files)
-Second open tasker and go to the "tasks tab" and tap and hold the Tasks Tab at the top. An options window will come up but select Import and import all of them into tasker
-Third go to the profiles tab and tap the Green plus at the left and give it a name. ShakeToToggle can work but you can name it whatever you like.
A context window will popup and you will select Event and then the Sensor Category and finally select the Shake Event.
You can mess around with the setting for the shake gesture now or tweak it in to your liking after everything is set up up to you.
-Forth once you have the setting you like press the green check mark, select the StatusBarToggle task and you are done. Now when you shake your tablet side to side it will make the status bar go away.
Now I just happened to figure out that you can shake instead of using an app for the context. I take little credit for how this works.
This method requires Super User Permissions. It will ask on the first toggle of the bar if you allow it to remember it afterward, if not it will ask each time.
Great app. Works perfectly

Change the function of the hardware keys?

Searched around alittle to see if anyone had found any means of doing this, but didn't find anything.
Anyone know if it's possible to assing the "settings" function to the browser key?
Thanks

Look here. It has a lot of information on it. You should be able to do with relative ease.
Cheers.
Sweet!, Worked like a charm with root explorer.
Just stumbled on this thread and thought id give it a shot on my K1. Everything went fine, files were same name and in same location, mounted the dir. Rw then changed my hardware button (the one thats Home/Back/Menu), saved the file with a backup but no changes were made. I even changed the buttons in the other file showing only hardware buttons and then rebooted but still nothing...
Im thinking that since this mod was for the TPT and Im on a K1, theres something Im missing. Any K1 owners had any success with re-mapping the hardware buttons?

may need to set permissions on file
You may need to set permissions on the file before you can save. Using "File Manager HD" I had to enable root explorer and mount systems folders under the settings and then add write permissions to Group and Others in the permissions dialog, probably don't need Others but I am lazy. Don't forget to change the permissions back after you save your changes. Incorrect permissions settings can sometimes really bork things.
Also seems that the settings might be a little different under ICS, I am getting "Touchscreen Toggled" instead of the menu after setting 150 to MENU.
-j
On the Lenovo boards, it has been comfirmed in the released chineese manual, that pen only mode is avaible. SoSweet!
Menu's not allowed in ICS
Well, here is why remapping the browser button to MENU does not work in ICS, looks like we are no longer allowed to have a menu.
http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2012/01/say-goodbye-to-menu-button.html
Still playing with it but it appears that no matter what I put on the line after key 150 I just get touch-screen toggled, which is useful but not what I want.

BTW doin' this on a Thinkpad Tablet

[Q] Phone number long-press menu gone in ICS?

Hey guys. I just recently switched to a T-Mobile One S from my Sprint Evo 3D. I've loved the phone so far, but I've noticed one dumb thing about it. On the Evo (running a gingerbread ROM), when long-pressing a phone number in a text, email, webpage, etc., I get a context menu with options to call, text, add to contacts, and so on. On the One S, I don't get any of these options, it just highlights the number for copying.
Am I missing something, or is this feature really gone? Is this true for all ICS ROMs, or just the stock T-Mo one I have? My brother seems to recall something about an Apple patent infringement that made Google or the phone makers omit this feature. Can anyone shed some light on this?
If the feature really is missing, is there a way to add it? Maybe there are ROMs that have already done this?
Thanks for any info!
Thank Apple for that.
Flash a ROM with a 1.78 base like leedroid maybe, you'll lose wifi calling though. Did this never work on Tmobile US One S or did this get disabled in 1.84 update?
If you're rooted, you can remove the HTC linkify app and the functionality will return...Not sure if you can disable via app manager if unrooted

I just tried the instructions linked in this thread: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1696536
Unfortunately, the only change is that now tapping on a phone number doesn't do anything (it used to bring up the dialer). Long-press still just selects the number for copying.
So now I can't even dial numbers by tapping them. I'm going to restore the build.prop backup and wipe the caches again and see what happens.

Did you reboot? Have you tried Settings/App Associations and clearing out the defaults? You might also have to clear the defaults in your dialer to get it to work.
I did reboot to recovery and clear the caches after deleting the apk and doing the build.prop changes.
I restored the build.prop backup and deleted the first instance of ro.da1.enable and then edited the second one from "true" to "false." This got the tap-to-dial working again, but the long-press stayed the same. I tried adding the ro.da1.method=false line, but that didnt seem to help.
I was going to check the app association settings, but that option in settings has disappeared. Is this because I deleted HTClinkifydispatcher.apk?

I think so...I didn't even do any build prop changes and I can tap to call from the browser but can't get the menu you described. Don't think I've ever seen that on any other phone I've used, so maybe it was specific to your previous models software?
I got the app associations menu back by restoring the linkify apk, undoing the build.prop changes, and clearing the two caches.
So now I'm back where I started. I have a softball game now, but I'll give this another try when I get back.
I'll get a screenshot of the menu the Evo 3D brings up when I long-press on a number.
Ok, I just went through the process again, and I don't get anything different as far as SMS and dialing goes. I tried clicking on a YouTube link, and I was given the choice between the browsers or the app, whereas before it would just open in a browser, so I know there's a change.
This time I renamed the linkify apk, deleted the first ro.da1.enable entry, and changed the second one to "false." I also restarted and wiped both caches.
Maybe the long-press menu was just a Sense option in Gingerbread. Does anybody know of a way to add this to a Sense 4.0 ICS ROM? Thanks a lot for the help so far, by the way.
I don't have any suggestions, but I remember this function/ability since you have brought it up. And I would like to get it back as well.
Going to look into it.

It will work if you double click the phone number, for me works
@syntropic - That'd be great, thanks!
@sebysebu - I tried double-tapping, and it just pulls the number up in the dialer like a single tap does. Is this what you get, or are you getting something else?

First of all I want to say that, also, I would like to have this function again.
Secondly, yes, this is what I get, I didn't tried before the single-tap, only the long press and the double-tap, my mistake, sorry. But after it pulls the number up in the dialer you can just dial then end the call quickly, then long press and you have those options. It's true that is more time wasted this way, but it can be done.
Anybody have any new ideas on this? I'm willing to use my phone as a guinea pig. I'm no expert, but I'm fairly familiar with command-line stuff.

Disable Add User function

I have a rooted Xperia Z lollipop. I want to disable the User add function as I am giving my kid access to the phone with screen time app. How can I make that disappear?
I have set the user_enable to "0" in the setting database but it doesnt work. Do I need to edit build.prop?
Have a look at this https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/323l36/android_5x_how_to_disable_guest_additional_user/
Make sure you have backup of files you edit, it's very easy to **** up when manually editing files
edit: lol just noticed xda censors swear words, this reminds me that i have seen a setting in maybe gravitybox or some app where u can remove add use or switch guest from notification bar on top, which is probbaly what you want to do, i will check around and see where i found it.
EDIT: Another thing I just tried and it works well
Add the following lines to your build.prop
fw.max_users=1
fw.show_multiuserui=0
Change the max users number to however many users you have on phone now. I did the database change earlier too, and after adding these two lines there's still icon on lock screen to switch users but it doesn't do anything, i got a long loading the first reboot, but that maybe because i am also playing around with xposed modules, just force reset the phone by pressing volup and power for 3 seconds and it should boot. Hope this helps.
I read it. Did as said. Added fw.max_users=1 but did not add fw show... The phone went into boot loop...
Can you share your build.prop? I wonder what I have done wrong.... Duh
Do I need to add "ro.sys." before the fw.max and fw.show?
