[Q] CPO WM devices available for VZW? - General Topics

I've searched these forums and just about everywhere else I could think of for information regarding my question but all I found were bits and pieces and nothing concrete.
I called Verizon today and asked about CPO devices (specifically, WM devices) and the rep I spoke to tried to help me out but I couldn't get much out of her either. What I'm looking for is a HTC WM device available via the CPO program. The only WM phone that she said was available is a Treo Pro (which after researching, wasn't available to consumers before it was retired, only B2B). I've had the 700w and the 700wx and they weren't terrible for their time but I'm not sold on a Treo Pro but the price (149.99) is decent for a no-strings-attached smartphone. I'd prefer something from HTC like the Imagio or the Touch Pro 2 but when I mentioned them (along with their respective model numbers) the CSR responded as if I was speaking another language. Can anyone tell me if there are other WM options available besides the Treo Pro? I absolutely despise the Fathom and WM Standard devices won't cut it. I'm not concerned about cost either.
Before some suggests I look at an Android phone, I don't want one. And before someone then questions why I wouldn't want an Android phone, I've had a few (an Eris, a DROID and an EVO to be exact) and I want to stick with WM for my own reasons related to my Exchange server and things of that nature. Yes, I know Android works with Exchange, just humor me and let me stick with Windows Mobile. Besides, the only [barely] respectable Android CPO available is the original Moto DROID.
If worse comes to worst, I'll check out the Marketplace sub-forum but I'd like to go with a CPO since I can insure it and have a full year warranty on it.

Am I At The Right Place?

I am very interested in the new Daxian PPC phone that is hopefully going to be released real soon by Sprint. Is this the correct place to learn more about this family of devices? I currently have a Treo 600 as well as a Dell Axim X3i. I much prefer the PPC operating system over Palm though and would love to have one device that is PPC based but also a cell phone. I am hoping the Daxian will be this device.
yeah but i dont think too many people have it yet or are willing to replace their current device with it since it dont offer that much of an upgrade in peoples minds
if the fact that too few people have any info to help you then you can read the review of blue angel which is the htc name for it here

Buying a new phone.. HTC Touch or wait for Kaiser

I looked.. i hope this has not been asked before.
About a month ago I came across my first windows mobile device. This device is the Typhoon. After comming from a line of nokias and moto razrs I quickly fell in love with windows mobile operating phones. Thank god, i used to want an iPhone and after doing the research I now know the error of that way.
I want Touch FLO, I want WM6.
Now this is the dilemma, I have recently been able to save up enough money for a Touch. Should I buy it or wait for the Kaiser?
Here is what I need answered to properly assess this.
The touch seems nice but the idea of the qwerty with 400 mhz processor and more rom/ram plus 3 megapixel camera seems like enough to sell me on a Kaiser.. or is it. Does anyone have any idea of a release date for the Kaiser? I heard sometime in late August? Also how much do we expect to pay for the Kaiser.. $600-$700 any leaked figure I have not read anyone? Does anyone have any idea if it will be possible to put Touch FLO on Kaiser without bricking it? Not fake button flo.. i mean real flawless Touch FLO. I have heard the Kaiser's screen will not allow Touch FLO. Is this true?
Now my questions for the Elf.. Is there any figure on how high it can be overclocked.. i have heard some say 240-260 mhz but I have also read 299 mhz. Anything over 300? Does the elf normally get sluggish in its touch flo interface while running applications?
Would I regret buying the Elf in the near future?
I am sorry for so many questions but everything I read people always say different things. Help!!
Late August or early September seems to be the consensus, at least for its availability in Europe. Note that some carriers will offer their own branded versions (T-Mobile in Germany labels it as the Vario III, Cingular in the US calls it the 8925) -- these versions may be somewhat less expensive (especially the Cingular version, since they subsidize phones by locking you into a contract).
Availability in the US seems a bit more problematic. Kaiser hasn't been certified by the FCC yet. Also, the US currently has an import ban on new devices using Qualcomm 3G chipsets -- the fallout from a intellectual property lawsuit filed by Broadcomm. There's some question as to whether or not Kaiser is subject to this ban.
The TouchFLO software will run on Kaiser -- the demo video at expansys.com shows it in action.
thanks
Thanks man, but any idea about what I was asking on overclocking a touch?

Treo 800 forum?

Now that it's officially out on Sprint, are we gonna get a forum for it?
Treo 800w Furom
Great I just got mine as well. I upgraded from a Treo 700wx. I realy liked my old phone so the 800w was an obvious buy. Anyways hope we can all learn and share. Im still feeling mine out.
I've been diehard BB for years but I really like the look of the 800. I love no trackball, gets too dirty. The 800w has a better keyboard than the Curve, and with Sprint TV what's not to like....Probably going to switch to Sprint for this in the near future.
I agree. I'd love to see a Treo 800w forum added .
There is a Treo 750 Cheetah forum that does not see much traffic. I propose it be renamed simply Treo and open to discussing all HTC produced Treo of the WM persuasion.
Treo 800w Forum
We need our own forum. I agree with the renaiming if the thread does not get much trafic to begin with.
/request!!!
yes, please start a 800w forum.
I don't believe the 800w is a HTC built phone. The 750 was, thus the reason it's on this site.
What are your thought on the phone? I was a pretty big Treo user, until I found HTC !

i second this. pretty sure that the 800 is not htc. also, i would like to see an 800w forum as well! even if it means merging with another, altho that could certainly lead to unnecessary confusion within the sub-forum later on.
800w
I just got a 800w to replace my HTC Touch which had replaced my Mogul.
I got the touch cuz it was tiny and had 3 times the RAM that the Mogul had. I got the 800w cuz I really missed a real keyboard.
Now I need a PPC that has a real keyboard, alot of RAM, AND a normal screen!!
The one downside to the 800w is it's square 320x320 screen. iGuidance and the SPB Finance's Quick Entry thingy don't display on a square screen! There goes $150 worth of software!!
I'm keeping the 800w because for noe, it's the best option and besides for those programs (and in general MUCH smaller everything - icons, fonts...), I really like it. It's quick, it has WM 6.1 out of the box, and it works well. (It doesn't come with ANY accessories other than wall charger and USB cable - cheap bastards!).
If anyone can help me out with the resolution thing that would be GREATLY appreciated!! The SPB I can live without (the main program works fine), but I need a GPS program that will work with a square screen. Anyone know one that works with, say, the 700wx? 320x320 should be the same as concept as240x240, just sharper.
Thanks!!
I say no Treo forum.
The 750 made by HTC.
The 800 Is not.
I don't think we need to add non-HTC devices. I don't know if you guys noticed but The Server is pegged as it is. Lets not add more load to our flailing server.

yeah, big "who cares"
Treo 800w is really well-positioned right now to steal a ****load of HTC customers who are disgruntled with driver problems -- 800w is properly accelerated and looks great. For CDMA customers (video driver problems notwithstanding) 800w is the undisputed king until Diamond and Pro land on U.S. carriers. Is it xda's goal to see the piss hacked out of Windows Mobile devices, or just HTC devices?
We need a place to hash out 320x320 compatibility issues, walkthroughs for deleting the Sprint crap, and a bunch of other stuff. I've definitely been reading a lot more PPCGeeks and WMExperts over the past couple of weeks.

i would like to see a 800w forum as well but i would like to see this site evolve to other makes as well. I think the world is ready and xda is one of the greatest sites on the net, its better then those xxx sites since its family friendly.
its an iffy situation im on a 800w coming from a htcppc6800.
i think the only reason it should be put on this site is because this IS the BEST site for winmo development. so maybe there should be one
i agree 800w forum! anyone got diag drivers to work on this yet?

Add one more to the "****load". Just put my Touch on eBay after getting my 800. This thing is SO much more of a phone than anything that HTC has come up with.
+1 vote for the new forum!

Well it's been a while since I've needed to make any posts on XDA seeing I've been a humbled but proud owner of a first gen iphone. Now i know some might think that a sell out but i'm not here in defence of that today, today is a post of a different nature. I just bought me a palm centro as i have moved over to cricket(cdma) for a while and in doing so needed to unlock and mod this "simple O.S." device(the XDA in me). more to the point in doing so i've found the need to browse around and found that this lovely family of ours has purpose elsewhere. So what's the idea??? Instead of making a new forum for the newly added family of WM devices(the palm devices), why not make an edit to the wiki... add the other windows mobile devices to the wiki and through that add the best forums for those devices there. this achieves two purposes... it allows a controllale link (severed if nesseccary) to sources for these devices and also creates a bridge of knowledge. I know every bridge flows both ways and there are some setbacks to this ( riff raff, trouble makers, for example) but atleast we as a community can come to an understanding and figure it out... POWER TO THE DEVELOPERS!!!!
what about the treo pro??/

Any word on a "NEW" htc x7510 or similar

Hi all,
I was wondering if HTC was coming out with a "newer/updated" version of the x7510 or something similar. I now it's a niche device so it's rare I come across anything like it. I don't mind waiting to spend the money on a newer version of the device instead of buying a used one on ebay.
Any help with this questions is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

This was supposed to be out about now but I haven't heard much lately:
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=1785&view=1&c=htc_thoth_100
Wow, depending on how this thing set up, it can be successfully marketed as a total Kindle, iPad, dell mini 5 killer. I hope its real!
Im sure looking also forward to the upcoming model, if it comes
the specs looks awesome, 1gig , 5mb camera and im looking to see
how the sdd size will be,.
let's hope and see what HTC will comes up..
still happy so far with the HTC X7510 which is a killer device.
Am pretty sure that we will not see any new models within the Advantage-series. Basing this on info from HTC since we work with them and we use 7500/7510 in our productionline where we install our own applications and sell to blue-lights...
But, I *HOPE* I'm wrong becasue I too want to see a new and improved Advantage.
I would love to know if this new device is coming to the UK in April as HTC told me just a month ago there would be no replacement for the X7510.
Is there anymore info on it yet?
Successor to HTC Advantage?

I personally think HTC may be missing an opportunity. With all the rave about the iPad, its critics point out the iPad's missing features and imperfections. When you look at what those critics would like to see (video-conference camera, etc), you get the feeling that they are actually describing something like Advantage x7510. HTC was ahead of its time when it released the x75xx series, and that was why they did not sell many units. Now the market has woken up to the realisation that something like the x75xx is really the ideal, practical business device. That is what the iPad tries to be - and all those other devices with giant screens. Several people who have seen me use the HTC x7510 at meetings have asked how they could get one. They feel disappointed when I tell them HTC don't make them any more! I have never seen any unit on sale on eBay. Why? No sane owner of an HTC Advantage would want to part with it!
Now is the time for HTC to release a re-born Advantage with:
Capacitive screen
1 GHz Snapdragon processor or similar
WVGA (480 x 800) resolution
A more secure cover for the battery/miniSD card/ SIMcard compartment
Improved camera (Not just megapixels, but really sharp pictures)
USB host
Bluetooth keyboard (optional)
I hope HTC is listening!
I agree - the good thing about the ipad is that it will launch a huge market in tablet like devices such as the Advantage. I was rather dreading the day I lost or damaged my Advantage, as it is so useful as a PDA/email/internet.
I agree - every time I use my Advantage, people comment. I think the problem was that HTC was not so well known when it brought out the Advantage, so it got forgotten by the market, plus, being honest, the Advantage does have its issues, such as the fact that it is memory strapped and is so sloooooow. It still gets commented on, and for many purposes, it is a useful alternative to laptop for up to a day out of the office.
A new one, better battery, capacitive screen, running Android, could be a winner, I completely agree.

It's really quiet in here.
Just Google for the Dell Mini 5 - a complete re-working of the Advantage concept, though without keyboard (but capacitive screen and onscreen keyboard mean this is not really necessary).
Looks really good.

if you look around this whole site, there is the odd forum devoted to devices running a little known OS called Android. I didn't realise that everyone here had to be signed up to Microsoft.
Seriously, with WM being consigned to the bin of history, we are all going to have to shop around. Android looks good to me, and it is developing fast. Unlike Windows Mobile. The Dell Mini 5 looks a worthy successor to the Advantage in just about every way IMHO.

It may be presumptuous to say that WM is "being consigned to the bin of history". It really depends on what you are looking for. I have read the tentative specifications of the Dell Mini 5. I would have loved to see it as "a worthy successor to the Advantage", but I really don't: With NO MS-Word or MS-Excel compatible editors (only viewers), it cannot replace my HTC Advantage. Until Google Apps includes real productivity tools, it cannot replace WM for me.

I didn't realise it didn't have document creation ability that is a very good point.
However, looking around at the developers, it really does seem like everyone is calling time on WM development - I wish it were not so, I should be able to keep my kit going for another year or so, but let's face it, it's time to side-grade.
I remember when Psion went out of business, I kept using my kit for a little while, but it soon became too difficult to keep it running. The world had moved on - exchange sync-ing rather than simple email for one thing. It's very sad, I have kept with WM since I ditched my Psion kit, I thought Microsoft would be a safe bet and I would never have to change, but they screwed up in a major way.
I think Dell's Mini 5 is the way to go - but it will be a little time before it is ready, that is all. The Advantage should keep going for a year or two.

Android and the future of WM
As I said earlier, it is all about what you are looking for. In my view, WM will remain for as long as MS-Office remains the dominant productivity tool in our offices, and as long as Google has not ported its web productivity tools into Android in a way that they can truly replace MS-Office. The true death knell for WM will be when I can use Google Docs on Android and can sync my Android device with MS-Exchange. Of course, for those only interested in social networking, these are not a consideration and the Android is good enough as it is.
I would not even talk about Apple's devices. They are great for their cool factor. But I do not see them as serious business tools.
Over time, if Microsoft refocuses on WM, it could survive many more years as a niche OS, for those who want their "office in the pocket", especially if Microsoft collaborates with the likes of HTC to blend the best of WM with the usability of Android.

[Q] Non-Touchscreen Smartphone

It finally happened - my HTC S740 was stolen a couple of days ago and I now have to decide what to do next: get a used one on eBay or find a worthy successor.
Is there a consensus what such a successor would look like? I remember a phrase by one of the wise men of this forum to the extent that "screens are not in the world to be touched" a view which I subscribe to wholeheartedly. So the new machine would have to be a non-touchscreen as well as have a retractable keyboard, just as the S740 does.
Much appreciate your ideas on this one!
Anybody? Or do I have to assume there are no machines like the S740 anymore
