what is the difference i could get 1 galaxy s vibrant i9000 with bell and captivate with rogers coming soon. i wana know what the difference really is ? and how is the in-call volume ? and battery life? please share
Both exactly the same but i think the captivate looks much better and feels better in your hand
How are they both the same? Wouldn't the Bell Captivate be just like the Att Captivate without the FFC?

Better development right now with the galaxy s vibrant (more devs) but captivate will catch up. I agree the cap is a nicer style, I've come to love the design of it.

If I had to chose, I'd go with a Bell i9000m over a Rogers Captivate. But before I walked out of the store, I would make damn sure that the three button combos work on the phone I am getting. Once you have that hardware, you can go home and play with Froyo or the most polished version of Eclair. If you don't like Bell service, no worries, the i9000m supports all of the Rogers 3G bands, you can't say that about the AT&T Captivate, and probably not its Rogers twin brother. The Captivate looks a touch nicer to me and is built a tad better with no bulge in the back, and a metal battery cover, but the i9000m is a very sleek phone in its own right as well, so the difference is quite minimal. And what you give up in looks and build quality, you get back tenfold in availability of accessories due to the use of a standard form factor.

The i9000 also has FM Radio that seems to operate, miss not having that on the i897.

Are you kidding?
This is what the Vibrant should have been.
If you really want the next version of the Galaxy S, you'd be stupid to buy that phone especially with all the buzz the S2 is generating.

LOL, i'm sure he meant porting the software over our vibes and then installing a compatible 4G modem just as we've installed a i9000 cam.
I'm just curious of the cam part, if it's an actual i9000 cam or something different. If the hardware is different, then i'd find out where it came from and what not's. I've also heard that rumor has it, the handset used in the MWC, they tested the banding issues and it has NONE, whatsoever. But... It's a rumor. No credibility.
Check out anandtech for the preliminary galaxy s2 benchmarks. For some reason the tegra 2 gpu and cpu wise score higher...
Maybe the drivers just are finalized.

No word yet on whether it will be released to the US or not.
As for being to be with TMO, no word. BUT, i did find out that the international version that will come out on 3rd Qrtr of this year in Europe IS compatible to the AT&T and Canada Bell's Band. Someone from AT&T can just purchase these baby and stick their sim's in, and BAM. They can use it right out of the box.
But i'm not about to switch to AT&T, well, not yet at least. LOL
S2 vs vibrant 4g... I thought they were the same.

It is not necessarily a hardware issue, a lot of phone out there are going to be converted via software only, and I suspect the Vibrant is one of those. Either way I am waiting for the S2......... my point is that taking the modem software from 850 mhz to 700 mhz or 2100 to 2200mhz does not require new hardware..........
just software
for about 40 bucks we can have the exact same phone... wow so much of a change (sarcasm). would like to see 4g though and i wonder if the back would fit on our phones cus i want to get one
I will be getting a sgs4g on release day due to my girlfriend wanting my vibrant... so I am adding a line for her getting the sgs4g and giving here my vibrant (its what she wants lol) so by the time the sgs2 comes out i will have an upgrade on my line. everyone wins.

Thanks for the reply...I hope it comes to tmo soon... this reminds me of cool Nokias that were only released for UK 3G frequencies and only AT&T US has similar 3G frequencies...
Ok I just took my HTC back and got the infuse 4G. I wanted to know is there a Rom that installs android 2.3 onto the infuse 4G. I'm about to root it now.
No.

Speaking of, is there anyone else who wants to look at the i9000 GB kernel with me and compare with the infuse 2.2 kernel and see what we can do to upgrade and merge the infuse kernel? I'm in the process of trading my N1 and Inspire for the infuse and I want to bring it up to speed with our fellow Samsung phones.

join #infuse4g.
I was kind of concerned when I bought my Infuse that there may not be any developers interested in working on roms and kernels for it. Only because they may be working on the other models such as the captivate and vibrant. Or waiting on the SGS II. I have the Atrix, and the Infuse. Coming from the Captivate, im hoping to see the same dedication for the Infuse. Plus im glad to see we are making headway on the Atrix. The devs here are top notch and we are all lucky to have such dedicated, generous people working for free/donations.

Hey guys,
Theres a Android 4.0.1 official from Samsung released for the i9100: http://www.sammobile.com/2011/12/14/exclsuive-android-4-0-1-by-samsung-for-sgs2-custom/ . Wow it looks like they made Ice Cream Sandwich look like dog **** so do you guys think we can expect the same for our skyrocket and how long would it take!
+1 can't wait

that has major issues from what i hear. it will still be a while...
Do you know how many dev work on international sgs2? They have dev thread full of devs from all over the world. I can guess about 20 devs or more and they have tons of roms and kernels. We have bunch of devs too but idk who will bring it on skyrocket. I am not talking about official ics either.
They got a leak. What can we expect you asked? No one knows it may or.may not get leaked. Depends on if anyone has a friend inside.. which i dont believe anyone on ou..r forum does so dont expect a leak if it happens great but just because the gs2 did does not mean anything for us. Ours is a completly different phone..
+1 Amen... Cant wait for ICS for S/R, will keep an eye out for CM9-stable in the meantime..
Knowing AT&T, they'll want to keep their latest and greatest phone with the greatest network up to date with the greatest software, so they probably have an alpha build of ICS for our phone, just no leak.
Hate to burst people's hopes, I saw posted somewhere in Twitter that someone had leaked a document showing the unverified release dates for various phones to get ICS.. however, the Samsung Galaxy S II series phones will NOT be seeing anything on ICS until approximately April 2012.
Now I know our phones are part of the SGS2 series, but don't know if it's included in that approximate release date !!

Lmao, yeah, I'm sure AT&T really cares about updates. That's why they haven't even bothered to push out the already completed Infuse Gingerbread update, even though that's one of their most popular phones.
I guarantee you this: The international Galaxy S II LTE and/or the T989 will get their release first, and we'll all be flashing ROMs based on that long before AT&T gets around to doing an update.

Yeah, this is actually a possibility. The Skyrocket HD might come with ICS, in which case we'll have it too around the same time.
Luckily there are a LOT of popular variants of our hardware that feature largely identical internals, so I'm not too worried about us having to wait TOO long.
That's the main reason I didn't get the Captivate Glide, even though I love landscape keyboards. The Tegra internals and Samsung's lack of firm commitment on updates were enough to scare me away.
I need to know I'm going to have ICS, and the Skyrocket, Vivid, and Galaxy S II were really the only sure things for ICS on AT&T.

They pulled it because of a deep with the ROM, that Samsung never noticed.
There's no reason to push a GB update now that Samsung has the nessesary things for ICS.

not even close.
you can install TMOBILE GS2 roms with skyrocket kernel, but not any other GS2 roms.
Why does everyone try and speculate? Patience people.... Nothing is different from the original statement from Samsung and it doesn't change anything trying to interperate things differently than what they are. And NO, the Galaxy S2 is not categorized the same at the Skyrocket.
Samsung
Official statements:
Samsung Electronics plan to provide the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for GALAXY devices. The platform update for GALAXY S II and GALAXY Note will start in the first quarter 2012, and other GALAXY devices will soon follow.
The ICS-upgradable devices are the GALAXY S II, GALAXY S II LTE, GALAXY Note, GALAXY R, GALAXY Tab 10.1, GALAXY Tab 8.9, GALAXY Tab 7.7, and GALAXY Tab 7.0 Plus.
For upgradable models, Samsung will make separate announcements on details of OS updates schedule for each market according to market situation and carriers' requirements. [December 20, 2011]

We can use T-Mobile Galaxy S II (SGH-T989) roms, but NOT international GS2 or AT&T GS2 roms. VERY important distinction.
Our phone is the Galaxy S II LTE internationally. It's totally different hardware from the main GS2. T-Mobile's thing isn't LTE but uses the same hardware as ours for related reasons (needing a different modem than the one in the Exynos).
I think the Touchwiz will kill it. Pure 4.0 Vanilla is the best!
My friend is buying a new att android smartphone soon, and he wants to get one with a lot of ROM choices, or some very good ones at least. Anyone have some input on a good android on the cheaper side?
Any helps really appreciated, thanks!

I'm a fan of the vivid, but Samsung has a lot more development going on so if hes strictly looking for a lot of rom choices, I'd go with the SII or the skyrocket.

He's right...the plain jane SGSII has a lot more rom options. I had a SGSII and now I have a Skyrocket. There is only a handful of roms for the Skyrocket but the SGSII is the 'flasher's delight'. If u want to have options go with the normal Galaxy S II

Uhh, i have a skyrocket too... U guys must have missed/failed to mention that skyrocket users can flash EVERY SINGLE one of those sgsII roms, we only require a compatible radio flash first, and a skyrocket kernel flash after. Not that it's a big deal, we have reasonably stable ics now and i'll take LTE over 4g any day.
