Buying in the UK
Hi
I purchased one of these on ebay.com and had it shipped to here. Unfortunately I ended up having to pay £50 vat at customs. I have seen them in Amazon but they havr been priced at around £450. Including the VAT I had to pay it still worked out at about £270. I only received the tablet yesterday, and the first thing I did was to flash the rom to TNT lite. Love this machine and it works so smoothly. Hope this is of some help

I live in Germany and ordered via borderlinx... Worked out fine, I was able to participate from low price from electronic express, who only ship within States. Make sure you search for some coupon code
Have you thought about the advent vega tablet? It is pretty similar if not the same HW as the g tab. Dont' know about the details, but maybe some investigating pays of... probably people ins this great forum know mpre about it )
Good luck!
If I lived in the UK I'd just get the advent vega.

Yep. Looks like pcworld has the vega back in stock... just get one. Its easier..
I got mine to Portugal cause a friend brought it to me.. else would try get a vega
thanks guys for your help[= been looking around and seemingly people are getting these g tablet roms to work on the vega which was my main worry in buying it[= thanks for all your help[=
I bought it on Ebay and it took about two weeks. One reason I bought it was because the support for g-tablet seemed to be much more than for the advent vega. Another important reason was that advent vega ran out of stock!! Both are good I think.

Hey Guys,
I'm thinking of selling my TC. Although I don't know how much I can sell it for. There aren't too many used ones I found like on craiglist to go by so I just listed it at $450obo. Do you guys think thats a decent price or is it over priced? Plus do you think that the fact that I changed the ROM to the light ROM by swtos (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=368677)would make it cheaper?
Thanks for your suggestions
Julian
i dont knoow if it would be cheaper but definately NOT more expensive because then that would mean your selling the rom.
450 is prety cheap.
Darn! I should've put more on craigslist then! =)
j/k I stopped using my TC about three weeks ago and bought a Palm Centro. now I'm sick of that phone and just ordered the new N95 so I'm just trying to offset some of the costs...
=)
Also, is there a For Sale section on the XDA forums? I couldn't seem to find one...
Julian
Hi
this is to anyone who is selling a TC, i am interested . But hopefully its a unlocked one and english original rom with it. And better be a 100% working one. Cause I have had it with my orbit 2.
Living in uk. So anyone from uk selling their TC would be great.
PLS pm me if you are interested to sell.
Thank you.
i'm thinking of getting the archos 101 tablet, not ready to shell out that much cash for a galaxy tab, and i was wondering if xda will have a forum for it. i'm hoping so becasue i would love to see a good amount of development for it. the specs are pretty nice for a budget tablet.
I'm getting the 101 also..
released officially in the States November 8th. A Monday. I have gapps4Archos.apk and market4archos.apk's if you need
i just saw where tigerdirect is letting you pre order, unfortunately they already sold their first shipment so they are not taking orders at this time. i called and talked to a rep and he said they will begin shipping them out on the 1st and expects them to be back up for order then. it really looks like a nice tablet, then add the low price to the nice specs and its a no brainer for me. i'm sure when better tablets come out next year i'll want to upgrade...but for now this tablet looks really exciting!
I have preordered my 101 too already. The e-store where I ordered it have said 9th. will be the shipping date. So only a weeke and a half to go
Would also love to see lots of development on Archos (and other future android tablets).
i'm still not sure where to preorder from, i was gonna order from tiger direct but it appears they are out for now....as well as amazon. the archos canada twitter site llnks you to a place that is still taking orders i may order from them not sure yet. i'd rather order from somewhere within the us though.

i pre ordered a 101 8gb this morning from http://www.archos.ca/ and the guy said it would be shipped out via ups the day he gets them in.
I'm really interested in the 101, but it only has 256mb ram... Thats really a Debbie downer for me. I'm looking at a Tegra 2 tablet too, but it seems like everywhere but the States is getting them.
I also emailed xda a suggestion for other tablets, including the Archos.
Yes I was hoping for more ram as well, but the original droid only had that much ram and I think it el be enough I'm sure I will get a gingerbread tablet next year anyways. Still really looking forward to getting this
Hi, still hunting around for somewhere to get an Infinity from and I may have found a place. Stumbled across this Lola Electronics place in the UK and was wondering weather they are trustworthy? They seem to have very cheap prices so there is an element of dodgyness with them. They have a massive long phone number and a gmail instead of something fancy. If its dodgy, which I suspect it is, are there any other places I people know of and is it ok to import say a UK model to AU with things like firmware and that?
Thanks,
Also found http://www.adorama.com/ which seem to ship to Australia, but once again, not sure weather to trust these online and foreign sites.

B&H Photo Video also ships out of the US, and is 100% legit. My one gripe with them is that they don't pack for shipment very well. This has happened on more than one occasion, the most recent being the TF700T. The exterior shipping box has a pretty large crushed corner (blame UPS here), but the interior ASUS bax also had the corner pushed in. Better packing could have prevented that; and as I said, this is not the first time.

Hope melbourne is not keeping you indoors this winter - Indeal time to have a Tablet like Infinity to PLAY WITH !!!
UK models = European ones - which will have lots of issue eg POWER CHARGER etc ...so I would settle for ones made for USA market
.... and its lots easier to setup since its already ENGLISH = as default ! <<<I have had major issues with Transfomer TF201 series from Europe>>> not to mention warranty if **** goes south !
Now I got this SHINNY BEAST !!! (deleivered from US in weeks via FEDEX - safe quick and easy peezee not to mention ..NO TAX , no Deleiverey charges ... blah blah) am most impressed
So seach - eRetailer/*bay site for pple who will SHIP to Aust for free .......... rimes with some JUNGLE in Sth america
Hope this helps
Cheers
Thanks both for the replies! and yeah, its pretty cold down here in Melbourne, rarely getting above 15C and going down to nearly 0C which is pretty cold for us. I still need to know if I can have the refund on my Prime which was sent back for the screen clicking in and out of place, similar to the Nexus 7. If I can, then I am gonna really look around the US. A good Aussie $ means I can save a bit more. At least with the Infinity it isn't much of a risk as the Prime to ship it from overseas for warranty reasons, dont think i will need a warranty too much with the Infinity.

If you're referring to Amazon, they don't ship to Australia.
Found one on eBay from BuySPRY, shipping is USPS for only around $50 with tacking and a decent reputation.
If i did have to RMA though, I could go to a service centre in Australia right?
To be honest, I am not that annoyed with the IO problem, I had it on the Prime, and delt with it. If I get this and it sucks, I will actually buy an iPad. But I doubt it will. I am gonna try and chat to ASUS tomorrow about a refund or a replacement for with an Infinity.

Problem is... most of the programs that cause the I/O issues on the infinity are not even available on the ipad without a jailbreak.
Or I might actually invest in a decent smartphone. But still, I would love for the Infinity to be able to pan out well.
Spoke to ASUS again about the whereabouts of my Prime, its still in Sydney. The DOA assessment was supposed to be a month ago but since they accidentally sent it to the repair centre, its only happening now. But hopefully, it will come back, I will be able to refund it and get an Infinity from one of these places!
Seriously, what the hell is going on with this tablet and it's release date?
I check these forums every day for months, and I just had to make an account to ask this. I see everyone ordering from overseas, the release date was supposed to be July 14th in USA, well what gives? It's July 25th and there is NO WORD ANYWHERE.
I am getting pretty frustrated so if anyone can give me a reason why there is no date set yet, or why Asus is being so god dam secretive about it like it is the most important thing in the world ever. Also concealing a release date offers no benefit to Asus. This is dumb as ****... /endrant
Anyone have any info yet?
A quick search of the forums will show many North American stores have been selling it since ~16th of July. You can order it online through many of the American retailers (B&H, Tiger Direct, Amazon, Best Buy).

I've had my TF700 & dock since last Thursday! I ordered it on Monday from Office Depot (online).... I guess you just weren't looking hard enough!

Hey, I live in the US and I've had my Infinity for a week now. Got it from a domestic vendor too (newegg, specifically). It's out, trust me, just really in high demand and hard to find. I was lucky enough to place an order when Newegg just got a shipment in, and it was sold out within an hour.
continued ptedsel
Distribution of this tablet is trully wired. At the begining of June, I read that tablet will be aviable in England in late August.
I was very suprised, when I saw Infinity in shop in Poland. I did buy 64GB version with dock on 29 June without any problems.
Keep in mind we are a international community here at XDA. Mani are purchasing from outside the states sources because they are also out side of the states. You'll still have a little trouble getting your hands on one in store, but I ordered mine from amazon two days ago and it will be at my door today when I get home from work (I hope).
You can use the website http://www.nowinstock.net to see availability of the device in the US. Great resource for finding some of the hottest tech products.

Hey, thanks for the quick responses everyone. I have been avoiding ordering this online as I have had many problems in the past ordering devices online. Looks like I have no choice then...
Amazon has always been decent to me, I would try them except it says it would ship within 2 months....More waiting yay!

Can't be to hard to find. I ordered and got mine from best buy last week and decided I want one more so I called best buy here in Idaho yesterday. They said they would have 95 units in store this Thursday. If you look at LA California BB stores they all have been in stock since last Thursday.
Yes I see Amazon has the 32 gig in stock, but I wanted the 64 gig...
If anyone finds any 64 gig infinity in stock anywhere in America, I'd really appreciate you posting it here , thanks. As far as I can see, there are no 64 gb units anywhere in US.

$20 more than MSRP, but the C1 is the 64GB flavor.
I actually just ordered both the 64 gig grey pad and the dock for $750 total from Newegg. Both should be here Friday.
Get em while you can people!
so, it is available and can be bought
No need for this thread then
Hello Users! My first post (woohoo) and probably a very noobish one.
Now, I've been using this forum for ages, but never made an account, been using it for my nice Sensation XE, got some great roms and help from the forums.
Anyway, more to the point.
In the UK, the TF700T's are about £600 default at the moment and just keep rising, now, I can get a US one for about £340, which is a lot more in my price range.
Now, I know the obvious, I'll need a US to UK transformer. However, is there anything else I need to be worried about? Such as, Keyboard layout? Firmware? Like, anything major that could effect me having an US tablet in the UK.
I don't give a toss about warranty, I'll be rooting it before I even use it. But, just worried incase firmwares are different? Stopping me from rooting/customisation, I'm just a little stuck here, wasn't sure if I should have stuck this in QnAs, but a general discussion sounded better since I know it's a question a lot of people ask, and people might have different takes on it.
Thank you for reading, much appreciated!

Other side of the world here so can't be definite but:
* keyboard - if you get the dock the layout will be slightly different (your ' and @ are transposed I believe and you'll have $ instead of pound sign) but I assume on the tablet itself you have UK keyboards?
* firmware - if similar to here you'll get it faster than others in UK (I got the latest update a day or two before those that bought locally in Oz)
No idea if there are any other ramifications.
Not really. I live in Sweden and bought mine in NY on my last trip there. Haven't experienced any problems at all. So you're good to go.

ARen't you forgetting import duty? If they catch you anyway...
Hm...
The joy of Android is that it comes with all languages installed, so the tablet you can just set to UK English instead of US English, and that changes the Tablet's keyboard, dictionary and such to the UK layout. The dock, however, will be a US layout. Though from what I've seen, all other countries sell the US-layout keyboard anyhow.
You'll most likely get the updates faster, and that probably includes Jelly Bean. (I see people here mentioning updates I've not seen yet, when, ironically, the Dutch stores sold it before the US...) The firmware for US is different from the international one, or at least there are different versions listed.
Actually, most users here are US, and thus use the US firmware. You'll probably have an easier time rooting and customizing your tablet when you have a US one than if you have a UK one.
Just make sure the store shipping it marks the shipment as GIFT, or you'll be paying a massive import fee.
I paid £60 import duty on my 700 from the US to UK. Apart from a £5 US to UK adaptor i still dont think thats too bad. (i didnt get the keyboard as i had my 200 keyboard)
Do it!
I bought mine in the us, the only catch I found is that the nice UK plug is £25 (but well worth it in my opinion).
That version has snap on us plug adaptors but the one in the box is fixed in place
Can you not just use a power adapter? I thought the transformer line had a power transformer which could handle 240 and 110V inputs? Could well be wrong though!

Hi I have just found this thread, I am also thinking about buying the tf700 from the US, were you sent a import invoice with your tablet? and how long did it take to come from the US?

Do bear in mind, as others have suggested, if you have it shipped to you via mail order you will almost certainly be hit for 20% VAT for an import from a non EU country
If you travel to the US yourself and carry it back you are less likely to need to pay (although technically the VAT is still due)
That said; I'm using a US keyboard (TF201 - not that there is any difference) I sourced to match the TF700 that I imported from Germany. No problems at all. The biggest difference in key layout is the " and @ are swapped around... but takes no time to get used to that.
Good luck!
Yes you can just us a cheap US to UK adaptor, no need to voltage changes. I paid £5 for one in maplin.
Also if you must have a real UK adaptor (for some reason) then just google tf101 power adaptor in Ebay and get one of those. I bought a real asus 101 adaptor for £15 off ebay, better than spending £30 on a 700 one.
