Did you have another thread about that here?
Anyways, what makes you think a custom ROM will fix your camera? A stock phone should have a working camera, period.
Have you tried downloading a third party camera app, like Camera 360 or Vignette demos to see if the camera will work with them?
How do you know the camera isn't defective, hardware-wise?
You're just going to complicate returning the phone for warranty or exchange by rooting it; so make sure you have good hardware first. Exchange the phone if the camera doesn't work...

I purchase second hand everything else works but the camera nothing else force closes

What if someone posted the original camera apk and I install it over mine

Maybe busted camera is why they sold it...?
Please try going to the Settings/Applications/Manage Applications menu. Click on All apps. Scroll down to Camera. Tap it. On the screen that opens, try clicking on Clear Data and Clear Cache (if it's able).
Also, I really suggest you try a free camera app like Vignette Demo or something else to see if they work.
Do you have any apps that use the camera, like maybe the barcode scanner app, or Google Goggles? Do the work?
Have you tried a factory reset on the phone?
I'm all for rooting, but if you're only rooting to try to fix the camera, doesn't make sense. More back on topic, the original response you got with the link is the simplest way.

Yea I have tried every free camera app and nothing works and I hard reset and clear cache multiple times I'm sure its a hardware issue but with rooting I was hoping to flash a new Tom and pray the software would fix the camera but for now I need a stock camera apk

call samsung to have it serviced
or get the seller to refund the money back to you

Send it back to Samsung. The camera should work fine with the stock software. Rooting only has the potential to cause problems, since you don't know what the issue is.

I am pretty sure you aren't going to be able to replace the one you already have anyways. I think you would need to be rooted. If ALL camera apps are force closing, it isn't the stock camera app. You need to service it with Samsung.

MIUI Camera

Ok so I just put MIUI onto my phone and I love it however I have a question I'm hoping someone might have an answer for.
When using the camera/ camcorder in landscape mode the pictures/videos save in portrait mode. Is this a common issue with ROMs for this phone maybe due to a porting issue and is there any fix that I can do? I tried a few apps but that didn't change anything either. Is my only option a return to stock?!
Btw this normally wouldn't be an issue but I just got my tickets for Armin and want some good videos.

I myself had same issue. Went in the gallery and click on the picture/video then there is a option I believe its the 3rd option on top and could rotate the image. It saved that way too. Hope that helps
Pictures that seems to work for but unfortunately not videos

Front Camera not working

I have the wifi edition Xoom mz604 and have changed to the US rom from Motorola's site. The flashing went fine and I received all the OTA updates so I have Android 4.0.4 now, but my front camera does not work. If I go to take a picture it is a green screen with lines moving throughout it, the rear camera works fine but that does me no good for Skype.
Has anyone ever had this problem? Anything I could try to fix it? All help/suggestions would be appreciated.
I have tried every camera app on the market with the same results also
Thank You

Got the same problem here since long time ago, seems like a hardware problem, maybe if you have the guaratee available you can ask to raplace the damage part. In my case im from MX and my tables was bought in US so no way to have guarantee here, just buy an OEM front facing camera from Ebay and hope somebody can send me the camera to replace.
As much as it sucks, if you want to eliminate the possibilities, you're gonna have to flash another rom and see if it happens.
Hmmm well guess I will start by going back to stock and re-locking it as it will need to be like that for warranty anyways. The tablet is 2 weeks old so I got lots of warranty on it still lol.
Thanks all

Stock camera question

I just noticed on the galaxy s3 while on a call I can't use camera. (It gives me Unable to start camera on a call). I know on my wifes DROID Razr she could take pictures while on a phone call..
I'm stock rooted with trinity kernel.
Is there a fix for that?

Do you have smart stay on under display? This needs the camera.

Smart stay don't have nothing to do with taking pictures while in a call.

I'm on Synergy and have no problems using the camera on call.
Can you try downloading a camera app from the play store (maybe pudding camera or something) and tell us if you get the same result?
Also to the other people experiencing this issue, what roms are you running?
the stock camera won't do it. use aa third party camera app

Downloaded pudding camera didn't work during call. But another 3rd party camera called camera ics did work during call. I guess I'll have to switch to synergy.

Does anyone know of a way to make the twisty gesture open this app--or some other camera app--rather than stock moto app?

how did you do that with tasker? I used win label to detect camera app and switch to another app. But both Moto camera and Google camera share the same win label as "Camera“.
create a new task, use Event/shake/app. I used Up/down shake so I could choose which camera to use by how the phone is shaken

I noticed that too, which I found odd since the stock camera app has HDR.
Does anyone know why the resolution is only 1024x576 with lens-blur? I changed the setting to high and there will be no difference. On the Nexus 5 is the resolution 2046x1536.
On my girlfriends Galaxy S4 the resolution is 2046x1536 also
Pictures with lens-blur looks really bad on Moto X compare to N5 or S4
Twist gesture
There is a way with xposed and Twisty Switch. http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/themes-apps/xposed-twisty-switch-control-moto-xs-t2722112

may i please know which is the best paid camera app for moto x? i installed the latest google camera and it is a waste.. i would prefer to spend a few bucks and go for a decent camera app instead of sticking to the stock app or other freeware..

Google Camera crashes for me whenever I go into settings for any shooting mode. Anyone else have this problem? I also seem to have a physically busted front facing camera, so that's likely the issue.. Love the lens blur and photosphere.

Not yet. If I could more easily root there might be a way.
I should probably look into the warranty thing, just don't want to pay $100 for an insurance replacement for an issue like this. (I don't take too many selfies, and the only people who want to video chat me want to use Facetime..)

Started working again randomly. Probably dropped it again and something popped back into place

Can't Connect to Camera on Lollipop

Ever since I upgraded to 5.0, my phone won't connect to the camera. The problem has been consistent across different roms and happens with every camera app. I even tried restoring to my nandroid of 4.4, but it still didn't work.
I thought that maybe it had something to do with how I upgraded: I just flashed it like any other room. Am I the only one experiencing this problem and does anyone know of a way to fix it?

Perhaps there is a hardware problem . Try to remove the cover and check the trail camera.

Does it not work at all, ever? I've had the "cannot connect to camera" issue on Lollipop but just once and it was after I'd used the flashlight from quick settings (a known problem).
If it doesn't work at all then it sounds more like a hardware problem. The best way to confirm that would be a factory reset and test before installing any third party applications.
I've same problem with the camera
