Hey guys I just unlocked my phone using that galaxy s unlock app that was just created (thanks dev). I'm with rogers and tried a Bell SIM. Phone calls and sms worked fine and the service provider changed to Bell. I encountered a problem when trying to access the internet via 3G and it didn't work.. The 3G symbol was in my notification bar, and all other phone functions worked, anyone know a potential problem? Thanks

You need to input bell's apn settings before you can use its internet, do a search on google for them.

I ran it on my rogers captivate(think I was running 2.2 at the time but not 100% sure because I have flashed so many roms lately) it worked great for me!
downloaded it from the markey
Unlocked on 2.2 phone was 2.1 when I bought it.

That's probably one of the reasons Skype says the Galaxy S is not supported...
Check their website..
Works for me!

I use Skype from the Market which incidentally only showed up once using froyo.
It is even working via the WIFI which the 3 version does not allow you to do.
Hi,
I have the Rogers version of the i727 and it has no option, in any menus, to check if ota update are available.
But
I found this trick on another website.
Dial *#*#checkin#*#* (checkin=2432546)
You will receive a notification telling you that the checkin succeeded.
Currently there is no update for i727r (rogers version)

That's probably not gonna work because running the CHECKIN will connect you to the Google Servers. Our updates will need to go through Rogers so they can add their bloatware and crap and sent out by Rogers to our IMEIs.
As the SkyRocket update has been sent out (and since they're exactly the same model minus the R), that means its ready but hasn't yet been blasphemized by Rogers yet.
That command used to work wonders with my good ol' Nexus One.
But..
Then again... I could be wrong.
I have the same problem, no update menu no where...i also dont want to root my phone before ICS
I would assume that the update would be done through kies. Kind of annoying I know.

Thats what i though too, until i saw kies only updates the kernel and has no way of updating and/or formating the OS

i have the same phone with the same problem.....any updates?
Rogers has never been very keen with updates. As far as Rogers is concerned updating the software on a phone causes too many problems.
I used to have a Nokia E71 for 3 years and Rogers never made a single update available even though dozens had been published by Nokia.
So my girlfriend walked into a sprint store to activate my old evo 4g. The sprint guy was cool, saw that it was running miui and showed her that his personal phone was also running miui. He said he couldn't activate the phone though because it was rooted. She said he tried three times and it wasn't possible because it was rooted. Anyone else had this issue? Thanks.

A rooted phone shouldn;t be an issue but the fact that you're running a custom rom is. You're gonna have to go back to a stock rom in order to activate.

So, a rooted stock ROM should still be able to activate?

yes you just need a rom that has EPST, so you can update the data profile and use the dialer codes. Once it's activated on your number you can flash whatever you'd like

How can you tell if it has the EPST.apk?
Easiest way is go to the dialer and type ##3282# if a menu opens you have it

I have brought an unlocked version skyrocket from at&t. Since I stay in India, we don't have a 4G and it's shame to say not even full 3G coverage here as of yet.
My question is when I move into 3G coverage area I see 4G instead of 3G and I feel battery drains quite fast during data usage under 3G (or 4G for phone). So I heard in Roger version of skyrocket and some custom roms allow switching off 4G completely ( 4G/LTE/HSPA+). So does cyanogenmod 9 allow such feature to disable 4G connectivity which is not there on at&t rom? Anybody who has already flashed CM9 on at&t skyrocket can reply so I can root this device and go for CM9 or other stable that allows such feature.
Thanks.

Yes
Where in India..? How did u manage to get carrier signals... I struggled a lot to get the signals, I had to flash stock ics uclf6.. may b d radio in it was the thing did it...
Into the topic,.. yes u can switch 2g/3g... you don't need to root ur phone... u can flash a recovèry using Odin.. then flash the custom rom... u get root if the rom is pre rooted... if not u can flash su... I'm using sky ics now but I'm unable to switch network mode.. people say it might b radio prob..
Pls post back if u succeed with cm9..
Thank u..

Yes, CM9 allows it. I'm on TeamChopsticks' CM9 and the option to switch is available in the Wireless and Networks setting.
However, do understand that you need a RAT unlocked radio. That's actually what allows you to switch to 2G on the skyrocket -- having a RAT unlocked radio. You can find a list of radios in this thread.
Hi!
That's what I was about to say: if I understood correctly what I read, having a ROM that allows you to choose between network modes (LTE/HSPA/GSM) is not sufficient. Your radio should also be unlocked -- like Rogers' radio. Changing the settings in your ROM when you use a locked radio -- like AT&T's radio -- would have no effect.
I've tried using this feature in CM9 and it doesn't seem to work. It was noted on their list of problems but I don't know if it was ever resolved. I have an unlocked RAT and I still can't get it to work right. Somewhat annoying because during the day I'd like to have it to save battery, but basically I gave up on trying to get it to work.

Sorry that doesn't seem to work. That may only work in Touchwiz based OSes, but in CM9 it's not doing anything.
Reported this belongs in q&a or the developers thread itself not in the general section.

So does it work in Sky-ICS? Im on AT&T so if I am going to install the rom for the first time what radio would I use?
Yes, I have rooted my new skyrocket with cwm touch recovery and flashed CM9 Stable version and it seems to working perfectly for me. .
Let me know if you face any problem and if you are from India. Will try to help if I could

I know it works on my ROM (EMBRYO) always had this feature since I travel to India it works perfect. You need to be SIM unlocked and a RAT unlocked RADIO (like any Rogers RADIO NOT ATT)..

You mean I need to unlock my phone in order to get this to work? I didn't have to fully unlock my Nexus 1 to do it. Is it different with the Skyrocket?
No you have to use a rogers radio rat unlocked isn't the same as unlocking the phone

That's what I figured but I have an unlocked RAT (I727RUXLF3) on AT&T and I still can't get it to switch to 2G on CM 9.1..

Huh? I guess I must have worded it differently. You need to be SIM Unlocked AND have a RAT Unlocked radio, to change the preferred network mode (at least on I727)...sigh..

Ok I am now SIM unlocked and Rat Unlocked and it STILL won't toggle over. Any Ideas?
odin to rogers stock flash rogers stock ics modem first. Then root and install cm9.
If that doesn;t work try the same process just use rogers gb
the att modem does strange things with network selection. It works for me when I dont use automatic network selection

I tried doing the ODIN with the Rogers ROM and it kept failing. I had to then install a custom recovery and then flash CM9.1 and it still didn't work. Before trying this I tried another ROM (Embryo) to see if that could toggle and it couldn't either. :crying:
Got the update today for Tmobile HTC One S. It saved my APN's but now when I select one, it waits for a few seconds then automatically goes back to the Tmobile default one. Anyone else have this problem? I rather liked having MY epc.tmobile.com APN.
everybody who did the update.
T-MobileUS HTC One S running Stock Rooted 2.21.
Known work around?
There is none yet.
You have to use the default APN programmed into the phone or root and install custom rom.

For us not so much for a different provider but as a workaround to not have to pay for tethering.
That is what I have tried for a custom tmo apn and it didn't help.
