[TOOL] [Feb 4, 2011] Android Customization Suite 1.2.2 - devs/themers read me! - Epic 4G Android Development

Android Customization Suite 1.2.2
This is a program to complement your ROM. It is able to produce a CWM flashable zip with apps your ROM might be missing (T-Mob ones, launchers, utilities, etc). It also has other tools available for you. It can produce an empty flashable zip for you (read more about it here). And now, it has "repositories." Developers can upkeep their own repos with whatever files they wish. Roms, themes, mods, etc.
need Epic devs/themers/modders to talk to me to get their work added on here!
in the mean time, you guys can mess with the Utilities in the Vibrant section just to get a feel for it

Instructions
Download. Note: you must have Java installed to run this app
WHILE YOU ARE DOWNLOADING MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP
Unzip the folder. Please keep it intact. Moving files around in there will probably break the functionality.
Run ACS.jar.
Choose desired apps.
Wiping Dalvik cache is recommended, but it will take you about 5 minutes to boot
Copy flash.zip to your internal sd card
Flash with CWM
Linux users: if you are running Linux I advise you to use the run.sh file to run the program, otherwise it may use your home directory to store files
Mac users: you need to have java 1.6 installed for this to work. i tested this on a friend's mac (running 10.5.8 & java 1.5) and it wasn't working. also i was not able to update her java to 1.6 either. so i'm assuming you need to have snow leopard installed for this to work...
Devs:
Check out this reference guide for more info on setting up a repo list. Feel free to contact me for any clarification. It's really not hard to do it, just have to understand how the app works a little. The guide should give insight and instruction. Contact me to add your repo to the list.
Options Note
If you want to change the location of system apps, please make your selections first THEN change the location

I was just looking at http://romkitchen.org/ yesterday, and wishing we had something like this for the Epic. I would LOVE to have the flexibility to choose what goes into the ROM on my phone without having to actually learn how to make a ROM. Plus, it would expand the options well beyond the dozen or so that we currently have available for the Epic. I vote yes on this!

This would be totally sweet!

Hell yeah. Please proceed.

**** YEAH
I say **** yeah and two thumbs up!!!:d:d:d:d:d:d:d:d:d:d:d:d:d:d:d:d:d:d:d:d:d:d:d:d:d:d:d:d

This would be nice. The current Devs do an awsome job. This would allow others without as much technical knowlege (myself included) to produce custom roms and hopefully expand this scene even further.

This doesn't have the ability (yet.. maybe) to cook roms. It can generate a zip to add files to your current ROM.
I'd have to code another module or something to get it to be able to cook roms. It's definitely possible. I'd probably need another Java coder

I been meaning to ask this for a while now:
Whats the difference between using a utility like this one to "Cook roms" and simply using 7zip to add and remove apk's,ringtones, boot animations and other files?

It doesn't cook roms!
It provides a simple way for users to get apps in a simple flashable format
And the difference is cooking just takes the manual labor out of that, that's it

do it !!!!!!!!!!!!

DO YOUR RESEARCH AND ASK THE APPROPRIATE QUESTIONS ETC IN THE CORRESPONDING THREADS!!!
First some THANKS. Manup456!!!! Thanks to him we have a great looking ROM and he is always helping out any way he can with the xROM. He is also a great character to work with. Make sure to thank him as well. And the others..Cyanogen, Stericon , Daproy, xDan, Dwang, rogro82, rgv151, cytown and everyone else tweaking the DREAM platform!!!
This is an AOSP 1.5r3 based ROM that I have heavily modified. 1.4 would not be possible without Cyanogen and friends so please make sure to check out his ROM's as well! This is built for DREAM but may work on other devices your milage may vary or you may need a few small changes but I am only supporting DREAM as it's the only HARDWARE I actually own ATM.
Also a BIG thanks to MikeTaylor00 for being extremely helpful to other XDA members, always acting professional and testing numerous settings for everyone! Make sure to thank him too!
If you are reporting a bug about a "force close", you need to post the output of "adb logcat" from the crash or there is nothing I can do for you.
DO NOT RUN ANY OTHER APPS2SD APPLICATIONS ON THIS BUILD. YOU WILL BREAK YOUR SYSTEM. THEY ARE NOT NECESSARY BECAUSE THIS ROM WILL DO A2SD AUTOMATICALLY AND BETTER!
PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE FLASHING ANY ROM INCLUDING MINE IT WILL SAVE YOU AND OTHERS TIME AND HEADACHE!!!

I'm not going to outline it all as your should already be familiar with "flashing a ROM' If you are not please read the stickies at the top of the Forum.
Please us Cyanogen 1.4 Recovery Image found Here prior to flashing.
App2SD setup requires the two usual partitions FAT32/EXT2/3/4 and can also support a 3rd swap partition with a small modification to the user.conf file in /system/bin/. I have not found this necessary on the AOSP Roms as of yet
See this post for info on formatting SDcards/creating partitions etc Here
To check swap configs sh /system/bin/swap -s
To change swap configs edit user.conf in /system/bin

A2SD is not included in the prebaked roms?
side question to this rom, probably easy to answer:
Is there a way to apply the nexus bootscreen, nexus Lockscreen and standard android dialer to apply to this mod?
or is the dialer included in the standard contacts app?

after I installed document2go, gmail & gtalk stopped working. gtalk won't refresh & gtalk won't even load.
hope Paul will see this & fix the bug.
thanks for the work.

Can I ask how do I actually install this ROM??
I have rooted (obviously) and gone in to Recovery mode but I only see update from update.zip on SD card even though the other file is on there too
Any help greatly appreciated!
are the zip files at the sdcards root?
are the zip files at the sdcards root directory?

Official Facebook page
Team Revival is:

!!Development turmoil!!
If any experienced dev. is out there watching this thread and is able to:
- Download our stock JK1 zImage (or extract it from the .tar package)
- Change one line in the recovery.rc part just like this:
------------------------------
service recovery /sbin/recovery
------------------------------
replace with
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
service recovery /system/bin/recovery
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
- Don't take the -+ signs into consideration, they are for show only
- If this is done on v1.0 and the new zImage would be flashed on it (just the zImage), then CWM would work out of the box (no need to install it, it is already implemented in the system!
Short change log:
- Three branches
• Classico branch (safety focused)
• Custom branch (performance/safety focused)
• Reaper (extra focused - on-going development is for this)
- Install kit added to all branches
- Guide added to all branches
Classico branch feature list:
- Éclair XXJK1 unbranded Samsung ROM – based
- Deodexed (meaning: removed all unnecessary application files in system folders – shows up in much more free space on /system partition, and also you can change the themes!)
- Pre-Rooted (meaning: you can now use all apps, which require root and also adb with su commands)
- Cleaned from un-necessary apps (meaning: removed Samsung widgets and stock software, which cause slowdown or less space on device – if you want, you can re-add them by downloading the .apk files for Éclair, but I don’t recommend that, they were removed for a reason…)
Custom branch feature list:
- All features of Classico branch
- Custom HTC theme (great thanks to The Dark Lestat for that)
- Custom boot animation (green particles – like in Kyrillos ROMs)
Reaper branch feature list:
- All features of Custom branch
- Live Wallpaper support for 2.1
- Stock wallpapers replaced with HTC stock wallpapers
- CWM recovery for 2.1 (non-autostart)
- Updates for the HTC theme (currently popup buttons were fixed)
Pros and Cons:
- It is Éclair, so no Froyo features for you (native App2Sd, Flash 10.1, Screen-orientation button, etc.)
- Minor theme problems (the porting has done by me and it is not complete, hence the version number 0.7 – expect something like non-transparent status bar app list, so nothing major)
- No heat-, excessive battery drain-, screen-, call- or app-issues – it is the safest ROM ever for your phone (oh, and also no FCs by stock – did I mention that? )
- Fast even without kernel mods, Data2SD, lagfix or etc.

Possible FAQ:
- Q: Why? Why would you make a custom ROM based on 2.1 if there are several 2.2 distros already?
- A: I would because my phone had audio/battery problems with each and every one.
- Q: Why the several branches?
- A: Because there aren’t much notable custom Eclair ROMs out there for Galaxy 3 and this way everybody will find their preferences
- Q: Why freeze a branch?
- A: Because each will represent a certain type of value: Classico for safety, Custom for performance/safety and Reaper for action-packed hot stuff!
- Q: What about the themes? Will they be updated?
- A: Yes. They will updated for each build after the final version has been reached (e.g. no more bugs)
- Q: Is this project frozeeen?? Nooo pleeease!
- A: I would say it is, if you want it to. It is now transformed into a community project - so anyone has the right to edit/remove/add components and even to rename it. You just have to make your own thread and read our rules (below, green) in advance. I made it like this, because I cannot add any more feautres, because they need advanced coding skills - something which I don't have...
- Q: How can I launch CWM?
- A: Yes, currently this is our dev. problem, you cannot launch it only from terminal emulator or adb. The commands are as follows:
su
/system/bin/recovery
- CWM screen will come up, but there will be flickers, because it was launched on the top of the system layer. Nevertheless, you can use the features. ALWAYS REBOOT after launching it - you can't exit.

Disclaimer:
Of course, as always: if your phone gets bricked during an attempt to flash / use my ROM I will refuse all accusations regarding it was done by this ROM.
It has been properly and carefully tested and it poses no hardbrick threat to any G3.
Licensing options as of 27.06.2011:
This project is hereby declared as an open-source community project. I declare it, because I have no further knowledge on the feature implementation and I believe that the pace is slow because of this. Also, I am completely satisfied with the level of progress of Version 1.0 - therefore I found it meaningless to be in charge of this project.
What does this mean to you? It means you are free to redistribute, re-release, modify or edit this ROM or its contents as long as you:
1. Don't violate any licenses that are already been deployed (e.a. Samsung's)
2. Credit all development members (included in my description)
3. Indicate, that your modifiaction has been, in fact, based on Revival ROM
4. Ask around if you are unsure about anything included (whose work it was for example)
Why do I do this? I hope that this will pick this project up and maybe an another "mutated" release will include the features we all have been longing for!
Godspeed.

Excellent job!
Man, this means a lot! Thanks so much!
Very nice to see an alternative rom! Apps2sd is no con, since you can install link2sd(free app from the market) witch is compatible with 2.1.
Yeah, I hoped that people will recognize that alternative!
nice, good job.
little suggestion: there is no flash on froyo so its no a pro/contra

if people like the rom, i'll surely make a video and let those 2.1 people use it
try porting features(power menu mod, jit, other stuff) from 2.2 to 2.1..
Hi,
here is a nice feature for your 2.1 eclair Rom:
i5800 JiT for Eclair JK1
Download this files : www.megaupload.com/?d=5P7JUZ2K
Put the dalvikvm from the bin folder in /system/bin and type
adb shell
su
chmod 755 /system/bin/dalvikvm
in adb
then put the libnativehelper.so and the libdvm.so in /system/lib and type
adb shell
su
chmod 755 /system/lib/libnativehelper.so
chmod 755 /system/lib/libdvm.so
in adb.
And then reboot the phone.
After the Reboot the phone will be much faster.
I hope you´ll enjoy it
Actually, I could make it work when I used Froyo, but yeah - it's not common.
Amúgy szép estét
Thanks for the tip, in further development I might make it happen!

Sure, I thought about that too, but I made this mainly for debug reasons and the process of adding features and testing their effects on 2.1 will take considerably more time, coz I'm doing this all by myself

You mean for Revival ROM or 2.1 at all?
To answer it in short: Revival does not include data2sd, but you can by all means install the free app Link2SD on it, which is basically the same as data2sd.
For lagfix, I can say I use my phone pretty much, but with Revival I did not face any slowdowns - so even if you install it, I doubt you will notice performance increase...

Reqirements
===========
1) Rooted Motorola Defy/Defy+/Bravo with 2nd init bootmenu installed
2) Multiboot feature by m11kkaa 0.51
Features
========
* Supports any number of ROMs
* Full support for multiboot 0.51
* Support multiple fsimages
* Create, recycle and format virtual systems.
* Delete, rename and edit description of each entry.
* Shows size of the VFS.
* Much more..
What is this?
=============
A manager for Virtual File Systems (fsimages) in your sdcard.
How to use this?
================
1) First of all a custom ROM should be installed as base. Preferably the latest CM9/CM7 nightly to get the latest 2nd-init bootmenu.
2) Then flash defy_multiboot_v0.5.1.zip by m11kkaa. You can get it from here.
3) Install MultiBootManagerFree_v1.28_final_royale1223.apk
4) Now open Mult Boot Manager from app drawer. Create new VFS from options. You can see now the new VFS listed. You just created your first VFS.
5) If you need MBM to detect your already existing VFS folders. You have to move them to /mnt/sdcard/multiboot.
6) Instructions for using multiboot 0.51 here, thanks joydeep1985.
7) If you have coming from leodfs multiboot, you have to restart from step 1. I hope you have enough knowledge to figure out which steps to skip.
8) Rest of the options in MultiBootManager are pretty self explanatory. Please make use of the context menu(long click menu).
9) Please report bugs and any features you want. I'm bit busy now but I'll fix/implement them later.
10) This app now works in virtual system also.
11) This app will work on all GB and ICS ROMs with 2nd init.
.
Multi-boot has been around for quite some time now, and is something we would like to see more of. Multi-booting can have a number of fun and even functional uses, such as having a ROM for gaming and a ROM for business, or even using one ROM for your secret family and one ROM for your real family so you don’t get mixed up. In any case, multi-booting is here and for users of the Motorola Defy, it’s only getting easier.
XDA Senior Member royale1223 has released a version of an application called Multi Boot Manager for the Defy, which provides an easy to use management GUI that helps users keep track of what’s what.
While the program is extremely helpful, it is not all fun and games when using it for the first time. The developer takes users through the steps of using it, including creating Ext3 data files, and then using the Multi Boot Manager application to install various iterations of Android. As this is a work in progress (albeit a relatively stable one), there are still some bugs and some things that may not work quite right just yet.

Notes :
1) Always download the latest version of MBM, that would be MultiBootManagerFree_v1.22_royale1223.apk
3) My version of MBM and leodfs' MultiBoot are not compatible with each other. You can't use the two at the same time. Running leodfs version will break the functionality of my app. To restore it you will need to flash mk41aa's MultiBoot 0.41 again.

How to use leodfs MultiBoot?
0-What do you need:
1-root
2-fresh flash from original multiboot.
3-a folder /mnt/sdcard/virtual (if you dont have it, it will FC)
4-just copy all your images folders to /mnt/sdcard/virtual. Rename them as you wish, but DON'T put spaces.
5-Running it after flash multiboot the first time, it will say that your virtual machine name is "fresh", it just a way to say that is no virtual system active at moment . Just click on any name from list to change.
6-You can install and execute it on virtual and normal.
7-There is a small noticeable bug of the keyboard openning on program open, just close it.

MBM work only if I have ICS(any build) like base?
How about if, like most of us, we run a gingerbreadish rom as main rom, and test ics as a 2nd boot? Will the app work?
Sent from my 1Ghz CM7 + CM9 Defy
What's the use?
Good idea!
Thank you Great work .... I will test on GB tomorrow but i bet i wouldn't ever be able to install the apk because of the ics base

Well no hope for cm7/miui users there..... this is only for cm9 like royale1223 stated
You should add backwards compatibility if possible.
Sent not from your device!
wow... nice effort! but much nicer if support CM7...
Someone can up the apk to another server please? I can't download from here
Different point of view would be smarter - main system CM7/Gingerbread ,additional ICS . However good try ...
GB version added
we must pay the OP for this,i think he worked overnight for this...
anyways, will try this later back home.
Mind to share sources buddy? I did a couple of scripts to make manage of virtuals easier, but was locked to script manager.

CyanogenMod 11 is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 4.4 (KK), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
CyanogenMod is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. I have been watching for like a week waiting for this to come to some sort of climactic crash, however, I am so curious I must flash this after trying a few other builds of yours some that worked, some not so much. Dont feel bad sir as with all things there has to be trial and error or nothing would ever be mastered. So I hope this works out for ya because it was looking real promising there for a moment! Thanks for the effort no matter the outcome.

Alright, its early stage right now so not too many changes, soon as I find the data partition for the updater-script everything will be on piont:good:
So my HTC Inspire didn't blow up, good. This DID boot up, this DID connect to Wi-Fi. I poked around a bit and unless Google is down the play store is getting errors when I try to download an app at which point my phone froze and it rebooted itself and gets some android.media.process has stopped errors. So having said all that and knowing where your at. Dude your going in the right direction. Im going to fiddle fart with this cause I can and will look forward to your updates. Good Luck!

It is, may be buggy, It's somewhat easy, but I'll make it as an addition later I need to make sure I do it the proper way
build 12/29 released.
BTW, Anyone know how to add data partition in the updater-script? I don't know the partition name, mainly why I haven't made aroma yet.
