What is the purpose of sdcard2 if it can be seen by a pc or files seem to vanish from it.
Using Vegan 5 and purchased a 16gb card but have yet to figure this out. Is there a way to fix this?

Search is your friend. It has been Coverd in many topics.
Try putting .nomedia in the folders of the sdcard2 including the root.
It can still be seen by your tablet and can be used for storage in your tablet.
I have yet to lose a single file after adding a .nomedia file to my sdcard.
Using ES File Explorer, I browse to my /sdcard2 folder, Menu > New > File and call it ".nomedia".
This is with Vegan 5 and TNT 4.1

So I've reached my whits end and I need help! I think the internal SD card on my VZW Galaxy S3 is corrupted somehow. Here is my issue:
When I go to the /sdcard/Android/data/com.google.android.music/cache/ directory, there is nothing in there. I have stored many albums for offline use, and finally purchased an external SD card to use for Google Music. I tried using Directory Bind and the Script Manager (SManager) method to create a sym link between my SD card and the Google Music directory and here is what happened: the symlink was created, if I created a test folder, it would show up on the external SD card. With Google Music, however, it would save all of it's files on my internal SD card. The only reason I know this is because my free space would go down on my internal. I have yet to find where it's saving those files, but they're not accessible (even with a search).
I have tried 2 types of factory resets and none of them have fixed the issue. The factory reset found under settings doesn't even erase the internal SD card. So I tried typing *2767*3855# (***WARNING: IT WILL NOT CONFIRM WITH YOU AFTER YOU TYPE THAT. IT WILL INSTANTLY DO A FACTORY RESET AFTER YOU PRESS THE #***).
I am using the stock rom and am rooted using GS3DebugFSRoot method. Let me know if you need any additional information.
So, does anyone know how I can fix my issue?
Mine is like that too, i think it's so you can't share your music illegally.. I may be wrong though, just a guess
I figured it out last night!
The cached/offline music for Google Play Music is now located in /data/data/com.google.android.music/. There was nothing wrong with my SD card or anything like that. Once I found the correct directory location, we were good to go. Most other guides say the offline/cached music is located in /sdcard/Android/data/com.google.android.music but it wasn't for me.
Hope this is helpful for everyone!
Hmmm, I just checked my device and it looks like I have music cache in /sdcard/Android/... and /data/data/... It does look like album art is only on /sdcard/Android.
Would like to try this so am curious did you mount -o bind both paths to get it working?

How did you find this location? Did you use a tool to do some sort of search, or just stumble on it?
I have a Motorola RAZR M and have the same issue you are having. I cache Goole Play Music and wanted to use Directory Bind to redirect it to my external SD card, but I can't find the local cache directory.
I have a question posted on the RAZR M forum, no responses though, except someone directing me to this post.
How did you ultimately link the directories, with Directory Bind or SM?
I was able to find the offline cache on my RAZR M using Storage Analyzer with root access. I found the files at /data/data/com.google.android.music.files/ which was a directory I could not find using other tools.
I was then successful setting up a link to my external SD card using directory bind.
WooHoo, 10+ GB of music on my phone.
I think by loading some ROM's my file system has changed? I remember seeing a /0 drive or something.
Anyhow thats all fine, I dont really care how its structured. But i cant find some files, maybe im doing it wrong?
I loaded an app like "ES File Explorer" and opened it up, I cant find a certain folder that i know I have on my SDCard, its called MyFiles
Im guessing its in another partition or something, but how can i explore all files properly?
Thank you
EDIT, currently im happily running CleanRom
When you are in the
/
directory (root level) find and tap on
mnt
which shows mounted folders.
See one that says
extSdCard
? That is your sdcard you put into the phone, not the internal one. Maybe check there?
(I haven't used that ROM, but first thought that comes to mind when I read your post...)
Will i see any difference when browsing the folders while connected to my pc, through windows explorer?
When i explore my sdcard, I only see 1 set of files/folders, not 2. Is there another set thats hidden from the computer?

Wondering if anyone had info on this?
When it's plugged up into the computer, it's going to be the same file system as when you browse it on your phone. Add a few screenshots of what you see.

I was trying to update TWRP and downloaded the zip. When I used Root Explorer to see where the file had downloaded, I noticed that the folders on my SD have changed. (or at least I think they have). when I open "storage" I think I had different folders. Now all I see is extSdCard, sdcard0, and a series of usb drives:UsbDriveA, :UsbDriveB, :UsbDriveC, :UsbDriveD, :UsbDriveE, and :UsbDriveF,
I am pretty sure there used to be sdcard1 and no UsbDrives at all. Am I not remembering correctly, or has something changed in the folder structure of the SD card?

I think it's a microsoft affect. If your PC is running windoze one of things windoze does is write files on its own. Every time you hook up to it you lose a little space

That's interesting. None of the USBdrives have anything in them. I'll see if any more show up when I connect to my windows 7 puter. I'm guessing that there is no harm in deleting some of 'em.
First kit kat device. Just bought the Shield portable not too long ago too. I am wondering how exactly do I manage files on my SD card. For one, I know you can move basic stuff from your PC like music and pictures with no problems. However, what if I wanted to create folders, push roms, move data and actually use the SD card as pre Kit Kat? My bootloader is unlocked and my Shield is rooted. I also applied the SD card fix from NextApp.
So far from what I see, the most painless way is to take it out. Lets say I want to start playing PSP games on my new device. To be neat, I would create a filepath like Emulators>PSP>Games. Then I would put the ISO in the games folder. Again this has to be all done externally from the device.
Internally however, I have not found anything. I tried creating folders with ES Explorer with no luck. From my understanding with Foldermount, I would have to create folders first (and have whatever files) on the internal storage then create a folder pairing. However, thats still a little annoying.
Is there another way that I happen to have missed?

Try Root Explorer. While I don't have a Shield Tab yet, kitkat is kitkat. Hardware shouldn't matter.

No good. Still can't create folders. I guess my only choice is to remove the SD card and do everything externally?

Try running an sdcard fix app for kitkat. Look for nextapp sdfix in the playstore, I normally run that.

Make sure your rooted first.
Some of you have likely figured this out, but after spending a few minutes poking around ES File Explorer Pro and being unable to locate my 64GB SD card, I finally found the location.
From the root of Device Storage, go to /storage/. Your name will likely vary, but mine was found as /storage/6D31-DA1D.
Having an SD card in my work S5, it was much easier and just required looking for ExtSDCard under /mnt/.

Just to add, the same applies to a SD card attached using an OTG adapter as well. Not as much need to use OTG now except for those times when you just want to transfer something over quickly.

That is an option too. However I got used to having all the side menus collapsed and didn't even think of that.

6D31-DA1D looks like the assigned serial number after the card is formatted. If that is true, then everyone will have to look for a different hex number for their card.
BTW is ES File Explorer allowed write access the SD card without root?

First time you try to write to the SD card, you get prompted to follow some steps. From there on, it can write to the card without error. Created a test folder and file on the root to verify.

So I gather that Marshmallow didn't inherit the Lollipop "Apps can't write to SD card" rule. That's good news. I prefer to transfer files from my PC to the phone via WiFi. Never made sense to have to use two file managers to copy files to the SD card.

They are restricted by default, but you can grant them access if they've been updated to know how to properly request it. Google made that change awhile ago, but most apps or OEMs never implemented it.
Root Explorer force closes on me upon tapping "select" to write to my SD card. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.

I don't believe it needs root to achieve this. I've done it before. It's just not working now for whatever reason.

This happened to me after running Package Disabler, also complete inability to write to SD card with ES, MI, or any other file explorer. Turns out Package Disabler flags External Storage(com.android.externalstorage) as bloatware and I had to make sure I unchecked and enabled it again.

I don't think Root Explorer is the issue because no file manager app I've tried allows me to write to the sd card.
