I have been looking everywhere around web, but seems that this question/problem is not properly solved yet. I need Sim Tookit (STK) to manage my SIM card (to be more exact to use it for indentification and mobile banking) , but Nexus S doesn't have one (Motorola Milestone had it). I've have been reading different threads about subject and seems that Nexus One had the same problem. Are there any solutions now besides installing custom rom?
Steps I have taken:
* installing SIM Toolkit (from MoDaCo) to stock ROM - does not work
* installing different roms (MoDaCo & Cyogen) to Nexus S - does not work
* contacting Samsung customer service - (useless) they suggest asking from mobile operator but this has nothing to do with operator
My current conclusion is that all available sources have something missing/misconfigured and that does not allow SIM Toolkit to function properly. If anyone has any ideas how to fix this then please share with rest of us.
The very same problem plagued Nexus One as well and they don't have (at least official fix) till today. There are couple of smart hacks but no one of them is executable with skils/knowlede set I have.

I came to the same conclusion. I've tried to debug it and can't find any STK messages being passed from the RIL, my feeling is that there's a bug/missing implementation in the proprietary parts..

If you are coder (I'm not), then maybe this page gives you some hints:
(search for "Mobiil-ID on Android Dev Phone"; its in Agris WiKI; as a rookie I can not post URL's yet).
Seems like all dev phones (this is really irony) have plagued by the same curse from beginning and seems that lots of hacking is only way to go as nor Google or HTC is interested fixing it.

Yeah, i read that page. It's about the htc dream though? I have the sim toolkit application installed on my Nexus S, but from debugging and reading logs, i came to the conclusion that the low-level RIL doesn't send any STK messages to the upper layers (Telephony -> STK app). So even if you have the STK app, it won't work. I'm gonna try a phone with a working STK and see how it's actually supposed to work..

Yes of course, I just thought that maybe the same princible works in our case as well (think analogy). And someone just left something really simple out from software. But seems that its not that simple

I do know that sister model ie. Galaxy S (both have almost identical hardware) does have working SIM Toolkit - had chance to try out it in shop yesterday. It worked just fine.
Are you able to run/access SIM Toolit actually? I was able to get direct link to it using "anycut" but its just crashes.

That's very interesting, i didn't think Galaxy S had SIM Toolkit. Nope, i've tried linking to the various activities but they all crash... But the interesting part is that i see no STK messages in the RIL logs, they should be there.. would be interesting to see how it looks on a working phone. I wonder if there's some sim toolkit incompatability in 2.3? Either that or the Galaxy and Nexus has some other differences..
still no way to get this stk.apk working huh?
waiting for Mr.Nameless @ ginger-s custom rom who claim will get the working one on his next update. hopefully he make it right.

Is that a fact or just rumor? Can you point out where you did find info about that?
As far as I know, the SIM Toolkit works in association with the carrier (actually with the SIM, but this is programmed by the carrier). Therefore, I think the SIM Toolkit apk is just there to enable these SIM functions when needed. From my experience (I have a Galaxy S), with my normal carrier I do not see any application but when I traveled to a different country and used a different SIM, a SIM Toolkit icon appeared in the app drawer and it did offer some carrier specific functions. When I came back home and switched the SIM again, it disappeared.

Just search around internet and you will see that Nexus S and One share the same sad fate - no SIM Toolkit. Its known fact. Even Google has listed it in support forums as "improvement".

Hey Dan, You have to look in the Touch Pro 2 Section under Android Management. Here's the link to save time.

Not everything works yet, the big things are Bluetooth, camera, and the keyboard lights. Otherwise most works and it's great!
Please make sure to read the FAQ's and search before you ask questions because a lot can be solved with the search option. If nothing else, send me a PM. I have the Sprint TP2 activated on Boost Mobile and running XDAndroid so hopefully I can help. Good Luck!
aoastill, check out these FAQ's and see if any of that will work. If not, we'll take it from there.
I'll just assume you're running XDAndroid?

tundemcdonald, I have had problems when my SIM card was in. I had to take it out for everything to work. it shouldn't affect your WIFI though. Check out the FAQ's I posted before and you should be able to get it working. You also need to get an update because they have updated since when you got yours. Hope this helps!

thanks man.. could not find it.
now... i have the HTC Hero which has android....
the TP2 looks like it has the same hardware specs...cpu and memory.
difference..
Hero has bigger camera
THP2 has bigger screen and keyboard.
I had thought the TP2 had better cpu and memory.. I was wrong. I am having issues.. with the Hero lag and performance.
will there be any benefits with android on TP2??

To be honest, what the developers are doing is incredible, but I'd prefer to have the stock android phone. Idk if it's the sense of comfort that it's "official" or what.
The only benefits I can think of is the customizations. Such as overclocking, and all that stuff. The problem with it is it's obviously a work in progress, so you won't have the camera, bluetooth, etc. I know that's been a problem for me lately. I need the camera quick and when I get my phone out, I remember it doesn't have a camera But I think you'd be happier with the stock one compared to XDANDROID. But for the phones that don't have Android, it is wonderful.
And to comment on your statement about the RAM and processor. They both have the same processor and amount of RAM. The Hero has a better camera, but otherwise, everything is bigger and better on the TP2. And I like the TP2's slide out keyboard

So what you are saying is that there's no way to use a cdma tp2 (sprint version) in gsm mode (as my carrier is orange dominicana so it is gsm only ) on android? I tried android once and I could not get signal, but I thought it had something to do with the fact that I didn't look too much into the configuration I just wanted to see how it performed. if that's so then I think I won't be using android on my tp2 as it is my main phone now and without gsm support (as of now, ) it serves for testing purpose only, anyways the devs are doing a greeeeat job, I'm sure it'll improve over time.

No, that is not what I mean at all. We just have to figure out why yours isn't working. So I can understand what setup you have, do you have the startup utility in windows to boot into Android? Or are you going and opening haret.exe? If you are using the startup utility, go into the settings and make sure CDMA, and N. Am. Dial are checked off.
Also make sure you have the latest rootfs. Go to this site, http://files.xdandroid.com/rootfs/ and download the latest one. Rename it as rootfs.img and copy it to the andboot folder on your SD card. It'll replace the old one and that has the latest stuff in it. Give all that a try and see if it doesn't work then.

Thanks, i'll try that, (although I have a version that is about 2 weeks old, so maybe outdate issues can be ruled out, lol) I think that I checked the cdma thing when I tried it mainly because I have heard that in WM if you go gsm on a cdma phone you'll brick it so I didn't want to take any chances, next time I try I'll make sure to check off the cdma box, I'll give it a try later and will come back to report, I'm such a noob...
Hey you're doing fine. I have the CDMA version of the TP2 and I had a lot of bugs to work out. I guess it's tougher to get it working on that than a GSM phone. I still feel like I have no idea what I'm doing lol.

It should be possible if you flash radio and hboot from some unlocked O3D...or if LG give us some new radio/hboot with Gingerbread update
Ok, thanks for the info. I guess I'll wait for some time, I'm not in a hurry anyway...
I'm considering buying this phone but have no clue how I can unlock it so I can use a different carrier. I'd like to make sure I can unlock the phone before I buy it.
Is there any information on unlocking the phone yet? I found lots of rooting topics but this is the only unlocking topic I've found.
Look at this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1186406
Sent from my LG-P920 using XDA Premium App
It seems I can't make a post on that topic as I'm too new and that's in the developer section.
It seems a lot of people are having issues with that guide and I'm too new to this to dare risking doing something with an incomplete guide.
I'm still trying to make sense of some things. I read a lot of things on how to root, but I haven't gotten a clear idea what things like ClockWorkMod is, or Romloader, or so forth.
I'm trying to get all my information before buying the phone so I can set it up with my carrier. I want to make sure I can root and unlock the phone before I get it. Also I'm trying to find information on how to back up or factory reset it if need be.
Hi,
The procedure http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1186406 is complete and it works with xp. People are problems with windows 7.
Now if you're not clear on the terms I can give you a link that will explain a few terms used.
http://durgeshbhat.wordpress.com/2011/07/26/custom-rom-android-device-flash-clockwork-where-do-i-start/
For "root" You're lucky to start with the lg optimus 3d ... the bootloader is not locked.
What mean you can root in one click with the right program for your pc.
"SuperOneClick"
For "recovery Mod" clockworksmod 4.0.0.9 you will have to install the "RomManager" apk on your phone. It is available on Android Market.
For "Custom ROM and Debrand" ... Come back here when you have the phone and you'll be ready for the first two steps ... I help you if you need it !
Thanks very much for the reply.
So just to make clear your tutorial at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1186406
This will debrand/unlock sim correct?
I want to make sure it will work with MTS (Manitoba Telephone Service) as a carrier.
To what I understand Clockworksmod is used for making backups and there's another one called Titanium for backing up apps and data right?
I think I'm starting to get the idea of how to do this. The ROMs part still eludes me but there's that RomManger I'm curious about too.
I have experience with other devices. I've so far flashed a PAP2 adapter, Ipod color (classic), Linksys router, and a couple of other odds and ends. It seems smart phones are a very different thing though.
Has there been any issues with the phone's 3D ability and any modding? Oddly this phone has better specs than most other phones I've looked at yet it's much cheaper than other phones too. It's actually cheaper than the Nexus S, HTC Desire, and Galaxy S II, but seems to have better specifications.
Yes it Debrand/unlock service operator.
Clockworksmod made a "backup Nandroid" that is a sort of backup of your system with all setting and applications.
Titanium backup is primarily used for backup and restore applications (. Apk)
But can also remove applications system.
Since you have experience with other devices ...
The ROM is the OS of the machine.
You can cook this ROM to make it faster, other original applications, another look ... and so.
How, and at what point do I enter in the APN settings on the phone so I can use my carrier? These needed to be manually entered on a friend's phone but I wasn't present to see how he did it.
Where do you go to enter these settings?
After you are flash . KDZ
The phone is "sim free".
So you can put any sim card it.
This is not true, it is not network sim unlocked. I wasted an entire night doing this to find out the sim is still locked

Hello. Since this is my 1st post as "M4TGS" few words about me: I'm new MT4GS owner and new Android user, coming from WinMo world (been using PocketPCs since WinMo 2003 SE) so if something sounds noobish please forgive me, I haven't had Android phone before (or linux on my PCs).
Please correct me if/where I'm wrong.
My phone is:
LOCKED
S-ON
HBOOT-1.45.0013
with T-Mobile's ROM full of useless junk (I knew that would be the case when I bought it, I had WinMo phones from T-Mo before and they always were loaded with garbage, which I always flashed with modded ROMs, I don't know why I just assumed all Android phones are easy to root and flash shouldve done some reading here first...)
So, after reading a lot of threads here today it seems that:
1 - I cannot change my ROM (due to S-ON and bootloader version that hasn't been cracked yet), is that correct?
2 - I cannot get rid of T-Mobile's junk from my stock rom either, because even if I use the "temp-perma-SuperUser" method, delete the "bloatware" apk, the bootloader will do crc check on next boot and restore them all again, is that correct?
3 - Assuming I understood 1 and 2 correctly, is there a way to stop the "bloatware" from starting at boot? For WinMo 6.x we had few different utilities that basically work on the phone similar to batch scripts on Windows, and a lot of automation could be achieved with those; if there is something like this for Android could it be automated to stop some of the bloatware and remove their shortcuts from menu at every boot?
(i.e. T-Mobile's-specific apps such as "My Account" or "Visual Voicemail", specially the latter bugs me the most because my canadian provider Wind doesn't have Visual voicemail and I can't just tap on "voicemail" without being nagged to enable visual voicemail every time I tap on voicemail in notifications, its so annoying)
4 - How on earth do I make videocalls with this phone and ROM? (yes I searched forum for that and found "Qik" which is not what I'm asking about - I can install i.e. Skype and it'll serve me better than this Qik)
On my last WinMo phone I just tapped the "camera" icon in the phone app and it did videocall using data connection. I can't find anything like it (nor anything pointing to videocall or datacall) on this phone, what am I missing?
Any answers appreciated, TIA!
Well ill just start by saying 1 is wrong so you might want to do some more reading chief, i didnt get through the rest of your post yet just wanted to say your first thought is wrong

Yeah hmm maybe find a friend that has a phone with a ffc and video call and see if once you add all the info to the address book it gives you the option to video call. I would say google talk has video call but its trash. Then again you might have to use a 3rd party app like qik, thats what comes stock right

I know exactly what you mean. I came over to this phone about 2 months ago from a Touch Pro 2. Boy the difference is figuring out how to get around the security on it.
Anyway, just use HTC's unlock tool assuming you are on the newest software version. If you're not, then update to the newest. This will allow you to flash custom ROMs. Flash Clockworkmod recovery. Then just flash superuser through it. This will give you root and the ability to delete the bloatware.
You'll still be S-on, but will be able to flash any custom ROM you want, you just have to push the kernel separately through ADB instead of in a nice neat package.
Yes HappyKhicken it seems much more work to customize it than it was with any Windows Mobile. Not that it would discourage me its just an observation.
I'm still reading around, I have just found out about the "wire trick" to make radio S-OFF, so I want to learn as much as possible before I do anything other than hard reset.
Since you also had TP2 can you explain to me how do you make a videocall here?
I can't figure out how to make videocall at all
If you remember in WinMo (well, depending on ROM and dialer canvas version you had of course) when you tap phone there was the icon that looked like one of those old Logitech round webcams, when you tap this icon it switched to "videocall" to the person you were dialing, and if this person didn't have video capability it switch back to "voice". Can't find anything like this here.
Also probably stupid question: is it possible to restore unlocked/s-off phone back to being locked with s-on and full of junk stock rom? (in case I would need to send it back to htc for warranty repair or replacement, I don't have T-Mobile's option with Asurion insurance since I'm not their customer and I'm in Canada)
thx

OK. I bit the bullet, went to
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1532809
run the HTC unlock, and now my bootloader says ***UNLOCKED***
(this was easy-peasy, just somehow no one mentioned in htc unlock tool thread - or I didn't notice it - that an account on htcdev is needed, but I made some quick fake email acct and registered there with it, hopefully I won't need it again? I just realized I didn't save any info for these accts lol)
So, next step would be to flash recovery - either CWM or "Stock 1.55" as there are these 2 to choose from at fifth step on HTC Unlock Tool.
What are the difference between these two?
If I flash one of them now, can I flash the other one later?
I'm not going to flash any new ROM yet, I need to get accustomed to Android first, but I would want to get rid of some bloatware and T-Mobile-specific apps that came with stock ROM since I'm not on T-Mobile. I know I need to flash CWM or Stock Recovery to gain root access, but I don't know which one should I choose / what are the major difference / advantages / disadvantages ?

Skype works very well on this phone. I've done videochat with a few friends, one of them using another Android, the other friend on an iPhone 4S. We were using Skype since that is a common software for us. Oh, I forgot, I also did Skype video chat using my MT4GS to another friend in Turkey, he was using his laptop. Great thing about Skype is it works on 4G or Wi-Fi (I have unlimited 4G data so I don't worry about it).

Thanks. Yeah, I installed Skype from Google Play (I think Android Market was better name) and indeed it works great. I think sound quality is way better than Skype for Window Mobile, maybe it is better than 'regular voicecall' too, or so it seems.
But it came to me clear now, and I can't believe it, but despite most of Android 'smartphones' having front cameras, the OS itself doesn't have videocall capability built-in, am I correct?
It's kinda let down if true? because AFAIR even my old TyTN II (thats ancient 2007 model) and every other WinMo smartphone with front camera I had after that also had videocall built-in right there in the dialer

OK... care to explain more, specially that you post the same comment in other thread (so I guess it is either important or spam)...
I'm sure I'm not the only noob to this phone and Android OS in general, so:
Why does the usb port need to be in debug mode and how do I start it if it is necessary?

To do many adb functions the device must be in debug mode.
The usb port itself isn't in debug mode, rather the whole device is.
In a very technical sense, a ROM is not 'polished' or 'finished' if it releases with usb debugging enabled - but I released mine that way because I use it so very often.
The setting is in:
Settings - Applications - Development

Thank you Blue6IX for excellent explanation and thenpaxtongoes for the reminder
Now to root my unlocked phone:
volume down + power, to go into hboot, plug in usb, fire up HTC Unlocker Tool and install CWM or Stock recovery, but do I need to change on my phone's hboot menu screen down to Recovery first or do I keep it at default Fastboot to install one of the Recoveries?
Another question is which recovery to install? It seems CWM is the one to go with but what are the advantages/disadvantages of CWM vs Stock 1.55 recovery? TIA
RESURRECTING an old thread
I have just rooted my MT4GS and I want to get rid of some of the stock T-Mo apps.
There was a thread here I read half a year ago with a list of apps that can be safely deleted, but I just spend good 30min trying to find it... I guess it was a post in some unrelated thread or such.
I want all the T-Mobile-specific apps gone (and yes I did backup on SD card with clockwork recovery). :cyclops: Can someone point me in right direction?

What I find the easiest to do is just use something like My Backup Pro or Titanium Backup to "freeze" the things I don't want, usually those things from T-Mobile or HTC that startup in the background but I never use. Like the Group Messaging stuff (there are 3 processes associated with that, I freeze all 3), the SWM-C process, T-Mobile ID (a caller-ID type thing you have to pay for). Yes, they still take up storage space but that is negligible, by freezing them they no longer are taking up processing/battery time.

Anyone else got one?
I checked antutu, and it is a snapdragon version.
I would like to know whether someone can activate lte on the first sim. I only got hsdpa now

I can't help you at ll, but I am very interested in this post, I live in China, and despite most of the technology being built here, it is not easy for a Westerner to A) get hands on stuff B) get information on, and C) not get ripped off in the process of A) and B). So far, I haven't had the displeasure of C.
Actually, I see elsewhere that there is another user posting about trying to get GApps onto his N9006 and not having much success getting infomation http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2454079&page=17 . Not sure if that is because he is a complete Noob, or whether it is because no one knows or both.
So, I'm wondering about the N9002 and the N9006. Did the aforementioned N9002 come unlocked and with GApps installed? Is a dual sim even useful?
How does it differ from the N9006, I wonder? Also, can I root them easily, as I am sure they won't come with GApps (sigh!) I had no problem rooting a Chinese s4 for a friend, but it was an i9500 and didn't have a strange model number.
Has anyone got one of either the N9002 or N9006 and had success? It is a bloody awful amount of dosh to pay for a phone, if it doesn't work properly for an English or non Mandarin native user.
Look forward to hopefully seeing some replies and advice.
Cheers.
When I got mine, I made sure the saleman install Google apps for me. I got play store, gmail, and everything. But I don't know how. All I know is you can do it somehow. Even I factory reset, and I can still use google apps.
I rooted it myself. I just googled it and find the necessary .tar files. And flashed with Odin.
The n9002 support dual standby and dual call (concurrently). The first sim supports hsdpa but the second sim only supports gprs.
I bought this for my brother who has to travel a lot. With the large battery, I think this is thd perfect travel phone. Buy a data sim oversea and put it in as sim1 for data and put in the native sim in sim2 to such that all business partners can continue to reach you.
Hope this helps.

What is the internal GB - is it 16 or 32 GB ? How's the battery life ? I am also looking to buy one from HK ( i live in India, would be visiting HK in the next 15 days or so ) .
.............also, where did u buy it from ? I hope it has no regional Lock issues ?
It is a 16gig. I can't report on the battery yet. Still testing. There is no region lock issue. I use my HK sim to turn it on (it is a China phone).
I bought it at OceanTec Mobile at Shop G61, Sincere House Comm. Podium, 83 Argyle Street, Mong Kok.
The price I got it for is $6980 hong kong dollars.
I am not associated with this shop. Just bought it there.

I bought a n9002 yesterday in China, and I am a non-native. It is 16GB and they didn't seem to offer any different. At first they asked me if I wanted a China Mobile (carrier) phone, and I said no so they got me a different one. They asked for my sim card so we could check that it would work but they did not let me see them turn it on. It worked but when I turn it off and on at home it has Unicom (other carrier) crap on it, even without the sim card inside. So I thought I was getting carrier unlocked but possibly not.
There aren't any Google apps and instead there is a Unicom one. Search for things like Skype, and you get the Chinese (monitored) version. It's the same with the magazine, you can only join Chinese social accounts. I added a VPN and went to Facebook and tried downloading the app, but it seems any URL starting with market:// isn't loading.
I downloaded Google play to my computer and used bluetooth to send it across to N9002. I had a warning about installing software from unsupported markets but a change in setting let me install it, but it won't run.
I'm all right with technology but this is my first ever Android device so I have never rooted before. I would like to go back to the shop and see what I can do but yesterday was manic because it's a national holiday (that's why i didn't hang around very long) and it might be like that for the next couple of days.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for starting this thread.
Blizza,
I got my google play installed by the salesman. But I think the following link should work. it seems pretty simple and just use Odin to flash.
https://support.mobicity.com/entrie...Play-Store-on-the-Dual-SIM-Galaxy-S4-GT-i9502
I was able to root.
It is pretty simple as well. You can just follow the followings:
Flash CWM Recovery with Odin using this: Down volume, home, and power together.
https://hotfile.com/dl/246835247/21b6180/n9006-cwm-recovery-6.0.3.7(0922).tar.html
Flash the .tar for root using this with the CWM Recovery: Up volume, home, and power together.
http://www.netded.com/xiao_1.php?url=http://pan.baidu.com/s/1yy9IP
If you don't know how to use Odin, then let me know. Try at your own risk....
Use titanium backup Pro (paid version) or search some Freeze App in Google Play to freeze all the bloatwares. Mine is all good now.
Thanks for the advice and I really want to try it but I am using Mac OSX so I can't use Odin. However there might be another solution in Heimdall. I'm still looking into it but that was a very encouraging video.

Let me know if you figure it out, I just bought a 9002 as well and the Unicom store sucks... My grief with it is less with the terrible design but more of whatever app you download from that store does not show up in your application list!! Also I feel a little uncomfortable with apps coming from Unicom knowing a lot of my info.
Tried downloading G-Play but it would not run (would install ok, but would not open)
I too only have a mac atm but if what it takes is a PC to fix the problem, I'll gladly go and buy a cheapo one.
Overall its a great phone, I have my China number and a my HK SIM card in the phone and they both work great. Also navigation is really really fast. I also have a single SIM S4 that I bought in HK.
Found this while doing research into this, its in Chinese so not sure how that may help you guys. Guy is promising 100% success rate into installing Google Play.
I might get a PC so I can try this out to see if it works...
Edit:
I am a new user so I am unable to post external links... search n9002 google play and its on a 52samsung forum
This might be a bit long but points out what I have noticed is different or missing from 9002 version.
1. Google Apps, including Play 2. Only 3 languages (Korean, Chinese & English) 3. Only 1 keyboard (Samsung Chinese IME) 4. Magazine only allows access to Samasung partner apps in China (Sina Weibo & Renren) 4. Samsung Hub is in Chinese 5. Numerous widgets use Chinese partners (i.e. Baidu search, not Google).
(Feel free to add to this list, I should be able to go back and edit additions in).
My perfect scenario would be to flash and install something that makes it all Western style, but that might take some time for this version.
On the Rooting side I thank Yatbond greatly for his help, the links were very helpful despite my not being able to use the PC. You can still get the needed files.
There is a Mac OS X alternative, Heimdall, which uses terminal. I have seen a video on youtube that demonstrates the process on a Mac and Note 2 (I can't post external links yet but search 'root note 2 with mac osx' and you will see it, or visit galaxynote2root dot com. This method requires having the restore on the SD card which I will go and buy today.
I am a noob so i am being a bit careful but I think that a mix of yatbond's and Heimdall has the answer for mac and 9002 users, it's just be great to have a guide of some sorts.
I am going to check Infuras link now, and see if I can use the translator to make progress.
Yatbond, I noticed that one of the files is n9006-cwm-recovery-6.0.3.7(0922)-fix-adb.tar - n9006 not 9002 is OK?
---------- Post added at 08:10 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:58 AM ----------
Infura led me towards the Chinese 52samsung forums and after a search i found 2 posts. 1 gives the same files as Yatbond's however another one linked to a different recovery file. Here is the link http://bbs.52samsung.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=713202
I used the translator and it mentions recovering using n9005 (HK) and goes onto say that performance is improved.
OK, quick update before my laptop battery dies. I went to the Official Samsung shop where I brought the phone and they said 'no can do' and that it was impossible for these dual sim phones to come with Google pre-installed because they are for the Chinese market. However he told me where I could get it rooted. I went there, the kid had never done one before and was trying to use, what looks like a very easy, Chinese app. However it's a new device and he couldn't do it. I had downloaded the files that yebot gave me before, and we watched the note3root.com video and did it. However no Google play, so then we watched the video yebot sent me too, and we did it! I've got Play working, downloaded Titanium backup and also got rid of a few Chinese bloatware apps. I'm still having issues getting facebook and skype though, and quite a lot of the store app descriptions are showing in Chinese or Cantonese so maybe it isn't quite right.
Mac OS X users, I didn't want to try it myself until a video guide was done. Borrow a PC or wait until note3root.com shows you how (but he doesnt show the adding of google play, and the CW versions are different to what yebot linked us to).
I will update when I have done more.
Blizza,
I think you are fine. The file for 9006 is fine. That is the one I used. It is a recovery file, and so should be ok.
You are obviously in china. Play store probably is in Chinese because of that. And facebook probably won't work in China.
Now, try resetting your phone and set it up again. This should clear all locale that has been set initially.
You should be able to keep root. And hopefully play, which I am not sure. Or alternatively, you can go into all related apps from application Manger in settings and clear their cache and data.

Please do. I'm a laowai in BJ who accidentally ended up with the 9002 and stuck without GApps... I've managed to root it with CF-Auto-Root but the only GPlay apk I could find will install but not open.
Thanks to everyone in this thread, it's been immensely helpful to someone who never even considered rooting a phone before.

A follow up that, like Blizza, I got mine to work now it seems. It took a long time of mixed up confusion, but it looks like if you only root using CF-Auto-Root, that it doesn't allow GApps to be installed, because the recovery hasn't been flashed to CWM (or I did my flash wrong).
Using the cwm files for the 9006, I was able to follow this guide:
galaxynote3root DOT com/galaxy-note-3-root/how-to-root-galaxy-note-3/
and then use the GApps package listed here:
support.mobicity DOT com/entries/22148360-How-to-flash-the-Google-Play-Store-on-the-Dual-SIM-Galaxy-S4-GT-i9502
to get GApps installed and set up.
I can't thank the contributors to this thread enough, I could never have figured this out without this thread and I'd be stuck with the chinese apps that I can't read...
Excuse me while I go play with my new phone finally. (and donate after confirming everything's looking good :good
Hey guys, i'm going to copy/paste my post from Tom's Hardware (I felt this may be a better place for the question):
Alright, so, i've been all over google the last two days and I just can't seem to find the right person/post having the exact same problem I am so I figured I'd ask myself.
So, as part as my effort to complete one of the various project I have going on around the house, I rooted and flashed custom recovery on my HTC One m9. Then, I flashed skydragon 10 onto it. This part seems to be fine and dandy.
But I just realized that I have ZERO Sprint software or options on my phone. As in, I can't update my profile and prl (the option is gone), I have no operator or mobile data, and my sim card appears to not be recognized as a Sprint SIM. How do I return those options and my phone's "identity"?
I tried various MMI codes to try and update PRL or somehow get my sprint profile back, but it just says "phone connection error or invalid MMI code". Of course, I assume I'm using MMI codes since that's what my phone's calling them (##72786# or something or other). But, right now, I don't really trust my phone.
As far as first experiences go with ROM flashing, this part has been a nightmare. It's like my phone is having an identity crisis and doesn't know that it's Sprint. I feel like shaking it and screaming "Damn it, Carl, you're not a tablet! You're a Sprint Phone!".
I literally feel 2 steps away from a solution, but I feel like I forgot to do something after flashing the ROM.
Here's what I know so far:
All my settings appear correct (APN, Phone Identity, Software Information)
If I search for Network Operators, Sprint comes up (there are 3 more with X's on them, assuming because it's not carrier-unlocked), but when I try to register, it just says the SIM is not a Sprint SIM i.e. my phone has lost it's identity.
As I'm certain you realize, I don't know much at this point. I saw a lot of answers and jargon and I know what it all means, I just don't know what to apply to my problem specifically. I haven't tried much beyond messing with settings since I'm trying to be cautious., but gosh darn (substitute the appropriate swear).
As far as backups go, I have none. I didn't realize that you could back up the stock ROM (not a single one of many guides mentioned nandroid, which I thought was the android folder misspelled, nor an EFS backup, which I thankfully, don't need... hopefully)
UPDATE: So, my phone keeps the annoying as 2am alarm I'm too lazy to get rid of, but ditches it's wireless carrier. Some priorities...
ACTUAL UPDATE: I'm going to call Sprint and see if I can have my SIM reactivated. First solution I've found that makes a little sense. Will post update later.
