The new Google voice app has a option labeled "Notifications via SMS" which disables any form of SMS forwarding to your cellphone in Google Voice, so if you're no longer receiving any text messages from people texting your Google Voice number this is the cause.
As someone who doesn't use the Google Voice Synchronization & Notification system to save battery life, I had disabled all those settings not realizing that this was happening. It probably seems pretty silly, but this could help a few people who are still talking about missing text messages.
Thanks this is happening to my wife's phone.
I'm writing this on behalf of a friend, so I don't have a Nexus S 4G to play with, but I have an Evo and am familiar with the vanilla android experience.
I have a separate GV number from my Sprint number and can get text messages for either. I also use GV as my voicemail provider.
My friend just got a Nexus S 4G, which has the Sprint/GV integration out of the box, instead of having the option (which I turned down, as I like them separate). He was getting a stock SMS app notification AND a GV notification for every SMS received. There's an option to disable the SMS notification in GV, but it must do something else, as checking/unchecking didn't do what I expected.
It wasn't until I uninstalled GV for him, and separated the Sprint/GV integration (getting him a new GV number) that the extra notifications stopped.
Now my sister has just gotten a Nexus S 4G, and she isn't very tech savvy and is on the other side of the country, so I'm to wondering if there's an easier way to accomplish getting rid of the extra notification.
I've read online about disabling Inbox synchronization to "fix" this, but I don't know if that will cease the voicemail notifications she's getting as well. Can anyone gimme an answer for that? Thanks!
Go to the SMS app and turn notifications off for that?
Hello, coming from the EVO, and now the awesome Nexus-S 4G, I am used to the stock Visual Voicemail that Sprint provides on the EVO's, and with the Nexus I just setup Google Voice. Some issues and questions please.
- My texts are going to the Voice app, not GO SMS anymore ? I only want texts using the GO app, not Google Voice.
- It seems I did use Google Voice like a year ago, and I have a boatload of message popping up from last year, how do I delete all these old voice mail messages ?
- Is there a way for the little Voice app icon, to display a # next to it of unread messages ? Like if I miss a text message it will show a little number 1 at the top corner of the app icon of how many missed texts I have, can the voice icon show that too ?
UPDATE;
I logged into my Google account on my computer, found the settings options, but some things still seem strange ?
My text messages are still going to Google Voice, and not even showing up in my GO SMS text app at all, or even the stock Android messaging, they only going to Google voice ? I did log into my gmail account on my computer and disabled texts, but it didn't seem to take ?
do you even want the messages to come through Google Voice? If not you can remove all of it and just use GV as Voicemail like Visual Voicemail...
If you just want to use GV as voice mail you have to log into your GV account through the web, Go into the phones setting and turn off the SPrint GV integration. Go into the app on the phone and delete the app data. Update the app in the market and then you will be able to "Skip" the GV Sprint integration and use it only for Voicemail.
I probably won't get back to this post until tomorrow so hopefully someone else can guide you.

Yes I want Google Voice as just a visual voice mail like i had with my EVO, I don't want Google Voice used for anything else besides that.
2 ways to do this, i've done it many times, lol.
1.) open gvoice settings in the browser from a computer and click deactivate google voice on this phone. You should then see the link change to "activate google voice on this phone." you will also see below it: deactivate google voicemail on this phone, that tells you that voicemail is still on. I think you want both of hte text message boxes unchecked as well. save it, that should do it. this is how i'm setup, i only use it like VVM.
2.) clear data on the google voice app on the phone. launch the app. when you get to the activation part, hit the SKIP button, basically it sets you up without using the extended gvoice features, select "do not use google voice to make any calls." finish the setup wizard, should be good from there.
I am using Google Voice on a Stock VZW HTC One M8 with Android 4.4.4 and I was wondering if there is a way to integrate GV with the Sense Messenger app. I have the GV settings box ticked to show notifications in the call log, and I have the Call settings for voicemail switched to GV. But the Messenger app seems to be tied to VVM. GV seems to be working fine otherwise, so I'm just wondering if anyone knows of a way, either rooted or not, to better integrate GV, I'd be psyched.
As an aside, I have hangouts and the hangouts dialer installed, yet I don't have any setting for Google Voice in Hangouts either. I'm on v2.5 so it should be there. Is there a way to get it or is there a reason it's not supported on this phone?
Thanks in advance!
OK..so my google voice messages and voice mails show up in hangouts. My partner's however do not. He is using a xperia z3 and has hangouts, hangouts dialer, and google voice all installed set up and signed in with the same gmail account. However within hangouts there are no settings for google voice. We have followed all instructions and searched google for an hour.. Tried uninstalling clearing catches and updating and even reverting to the first hangouts version that migrated in google voice all with no results.. Any suggestions?
No one has any answers?
It's been awhile but seems like just updating Hangouts and its dialer didn't immediately turn on the voice options. You had to wait for Google to "hit" your account, ie they activated the GV options by stages. You may have to contact somebody in GV support to fix this.
