Froyo, crappy browser? - Captivate General

Hey guys I was just wondering if anyone else is experiencing a more laggy browser after upgrading to froyo. My phone is rooted but I upgraded before through Kies and im with rogers if that makes a difference. Thanks in advance

Go to Dolphin Mini and you will have no complaints!

Both Dolphin Mini and Miren browser are really light and fast. Personally, I've been leaning towards Miren.

The slowness of the browser comes from the fact that it supports and does playback flash content. If you disable flash plugin from the browser or change it to on-demand, you will see the browser loads and responds must faster.
And Steve Jobs is right, Adobe Flash is a a piece of garbage.

Other than constant popup of ads, I've yet to see any value of it. But I digress.

Adfree + on demand flash will change your life.

Ive looked for Flash settings to change it to on demand, but where are the settings?
I like Flash because I was with iOS emailing url's to myself to check out later on desktop, but I have been going to desktop less and less as my phone becomes more and more powerful. Pretty soon all I will need it for is office and NAS use.

You won't find flash settings. It is a generic setting called 'Plug-in setting'.

Flash is available in Dolphin HD on demand. I've only used Dolphin HD; I don't know if it can be done in mini or the stock browser.

Thanks for all the input guys, i have a quick questions what's the difference between dolphin mini and dolphin hd? And ive set my plugin setting to on demand on the deafult browser and also have adfree, but it still seems at times the browser is considerbly more laggy then the browser before froyo. Btw dolphin mini is very good thanks for the suggestion.

Opera Mobile Beta released!

You can find it here:

Have fun!
Edit:
Strange Version though, no flash support -.- But the interface is really fast!
It's pretty big! Even with the build in A2SD it's 14MB or so, but pretty cool all the same. Thanks!
I dig its speed, but I do not dig its rendering lag when using pinch to zoom.
Preciate you!good look. Downloaded it just in case they decide to pull it down

Works pretty well. Rendering is noticeably better than the mini version.
Gosh, it's quick and stable for a beta. However, the rendered images are a bit compressed. Why is that?

Pinch to zoom is working for you? It is not for me
Actually, I will be frank. The pitch to zoom works really well, and the rendering lag on my Hero is less than 2 seconds. So I don't feel much punch anyway.
Was rendering the BBC News UK Site.

Downloaded from Market on my Galaxy Tab (20 MB install !!).
Crashes instantly on startup, despite being on Droid Wall WIFI whitelist. Oh well....I'm happy with Dolphin HD and xScope anyways
EDIT: ah, apparently it doesn't crash in landscape mode !! See link below:

finally =D
this could probably be the point why i change to android now.
the opera mobile browser was always the best i found, not only fast in browsing, its even fast to handle, i mean, tab switching is so easy and fast, so much faster than on standard android browser, and i dont need pinch to zoom, cause opera mobile on winmo got so awsome one tap, double tab zoom...
i hope the android version will be like that too ))
gonna use it today..
Bad
stock browser is faster, renders better, supports flash, and DOES display non-latin fonts.
this one feels like the firefox beta... unstable and not for everyday use. hope the final is better i had huge expectation from the GPU acceleration support in opera.
Its way too huge. hopefully they shrink it down like firefox.
It doesn't work on GT540 Eclair.
wow am disappointed.
Was looking forward to this since I like syncing my desktop links with my mobile rowser and the availability of organizing bookmarks into folders.
But on first pass, this thing is VERY beta. Images would not load, pages loaded slower than the stock browser and it just felt buggy overall. Feels more like an alpha release than beta. Hope they can improve it.

Opera browser 11

This is by far the fastest browser I have ever seen, it also has flash support and if you want to increase the speed of the browser just go to the browsers settings and select opera turbo, in which the webpages load at a drasticly fast pace. I highly recommend this browser.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Just downloaded it and it seems really fast, even with only 2 bars of 3G. Gonna test it out with 4G tomorrow and see how fast it really is.
Do you know how to make it full screen without the notification bar?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
I believe to make it fullscreen, you have to go to the browsers settings and click navigation bar to off. That should make it fullscreen and remember if you want powerful speeds, just turn on opera turbo in the settings.

Doesn't do suggestions when i type a word Dolphin mini still better
Sent from my HTC EVO using XDA App
It really is an improvement over the previous version, and it really flies.
There are some annoyances though. YT app is not loaded automatically after clicking on a YT link, Flash 10.2 crashes the browser, the auto complete in the address bar is unbelievably annoying. It also needs an easier way to change the User Agent.
Hope they can fix that in the future.

I really like this design. Most of the plugins seemed to work today that i tried and thankfully people stuck w/ fennec long enough to even have some plugin's ready.
I hadnt seen this mentioned anywhere hope its usefull to someone.
Someone mentioned no flash support. However this link will show you how to set it up so links for youtube open in the android youtube app.

To sync go to your Firefox on your desktop (new version) menu>sync >write down your number.. Download firefox mobile from link above. go to sync options enter your code and all your bookmarks, contacts etc. will be imported pretty nicely.
Doesn't support flash. I prefer the stock browser. Thanks for sharing though.

Tested for a while yesterday. Dolphin HD is still my favorite.
Sent from Desire HD or Inspire 4G or whatever this thing is called via premium XDA app.
Started testing it today. Being a pc Firefox fan, this really has a lot of potential.
Add-on's are one of the best features of Firefox, and to have that functionality on the mobile version is really appealing.
I haven't tried many other alternate browsers, so I don't know what level of add-on type of functionality the other popular ones have, but...
Syncing to the pc is also a real plus.
I'm sure it will only get better, with any video-related shortcomings being addressed in the future.
I heard the beta was slow/battery hog, etc... This release seems pretty fast/stable, so far.

No Flash = No Thanks
Not sure why they would bother releasing (even in BETA) something that doesn't support Flash.
I'll wait, but for now, stock and Dolphin are the only ones I use.
Its a decent browser but without flash its useless for me. I dont need pretty designs and cool add ons, just show me what the website is supposed to look like, and all of its content. Too bad to cause I have been using desktop firefox for many a year. I imagine they are gonna fix the flash thing, I hope anyway.

Is there a way to remove the "suggested" add-on's from Dolphin Browser such as Evernote, TrustGo, Phonegap, and Pocket?
They sure are cluttering up my stuff.
Or are those like ads and that's part of how Dolphin makes its money?
Any input would be appreciated.
When I did use an play store browser I switched over to boat browser because dolphin started acting funny but now that we have ics I just use the stock browser because it does everything I need it to.
But when I did use dolphin browser I remembered that I was able to uninstall the plugins through the regular applications manager.
Also I just downloaded dolphin browser to check it out and it seems like it might be cross app promoting because the add ons aren't installed they are just available for download through that link

Ugh, this is a frustrating development. Dolphin is my favorite browser, but I'll abandon ship if I can't drop the fluff.
I find these 'default' add-ons too very annoying!
Giving me again the feeling of not owning my device . .
Of course I gave dolphin a try after realizing an enthusastic usership,
but now I'm starting to doubt the concept!
Gestures and voice could be nice but I would again have to learn
one technique to be able to control just one app . . .
Btw. the scrolling works nicer with the default or firefox - even chrome
is now giving me a better feeling.
To accept one Amazon bookmark in firefox is bearable.
Still I'm too curious how the default add-ons (especially the antivirus!)
If you install the advertised app, it will let you remove it.

I think the jelly bean stock browser is faster than chrome. Try running the sunspider benchmark, I get like 1500-1600 ms in browser and like 1800-1900ms in chrome.
Although the chrome ui is generally much smoother. Tab management in browser sucks.
I generally use the stock browser now because it has the one handed zoom functionality.

I just don't like that I can't use the stock video player with Chrome. It plays inside the browser window.
I prefer the stock browser over chrome. I get a lot of display issues using chrome on websites that I go to frequently. Stock browser is perfect.

You need to tweak your settings on stock. I did and it flies. Definitely faster than chrome for me. I turn all these on "always" and it's fast. Definitely faster than on ICS

Also another reason that I find myself using the stock browser instead of Chrome. I do agree with Chrome's UI and tab management being smoother/more attractive though. As far as loading pages, I'm not sure why but the stock browser beats Chrome everytime. And thats on every JB rom, both CM10 and TW based
