Hello
Just switched from CM6 to AOSP and I noticed that the little microphone on my keyboard that allowed me to say something and it would be entered in a text message is gone :/
I was wondering if there was any way to get this on AOSP as it is a VERY useful feature to me (Broken wrist)
Flash a gingerbread keyboard and make sure the mic on main keyboard setting is enabled. See my sig for a link to mine.

Tried this and its still not there... Is there some voice thing I need to install?
FYI: I have Pico TTS engine and all language packs installed.
Do you have voice search installed because I think it uses that for the text to speech

Yes you will need to download Google voice search from market. Aosp does not include this in the gapps. But download and install and you will have the mic back.

Same thing happened to me. Installing Google voice search fixed it on my phone.

Use root explorer/sufbs or whatever it is you use to look at SD Card. Go to system/app and delete voicesearch.apk, also uninstall google search, reboot phone, go to market and redownload voice search and google search, violah!

They showed up for me. I'm running the CyanogenMOD RC-1 (FroYo 2.2)
http://www.androidcentral.com/htc-sensation-include-swype-htc-trace-keyboard
Check this out! HTC's own version of Swype?!
Would be cool if the older devices get this update! Won't require dual core for it, if thats htc's pathetic excuse again!
maybe?
oh it's crazy i think 。。for me。it never minds

Only time will tell
As someone thats very recently learned to love the free (beta) swype application, I'm hoping that the htc v3.0 htc trace application gets ported to our device and soon

I wonder if this will be better than Swype and SwiftKey.
i donot need it ,but thank you for sharing all the same
Hello, I've searched for swype and HTC Trace in the market, but I didn't find none of them. What is the exact name of the application to install, to have the swype active?

From memory when I installed swype you have to get it through your browser on your phone and download it from their site, though I'm sure someone will correct me if my memory is failing.

You are correct! Download the beta for Swype from here...

You need to sign up to an account first though.

Thanks, but, is this something that overrides the default keyboard adding the swype function or is it a new one?
No it won't override, merely give you an alternate keyboard option. Its not obvious how to turn it on though so once installed, do the following;
In settings, go to 'languages & keyboard' and put a tick in the 'Swype' box.
Then in any text entry box, do a long press, and select 'Input Method' and choose Swype.
Nice Swype tip: It has a nice (hidden) cursor keyboard. Access it by Swyping from the bottom-left menu button, to the button to the right of it.

Some nice themed Swype keyboards here (although the cursor board is missing some keys)

Is there some keyboard that looks like the default one? (I mean the original one)
I've seen that these keyboards need to be flashed. Is there a way to come back to the stock one just in case I don't like the new one? I've seen there is some keyboard zip file here on xda, but I'm not sure of what is the stock one.
EDIT: for instance, I've found this thread. There is a so called "HTC_Keyboard_Without_Arrows"; I guess it is the stock one. Isn't it?

You do NOT have an extra keyboard called "Trace Keyboard" or whatever by long pressing. After enabling it, just slide as if you were using swype with the regular HTC keyboard.

I know what Trace is.....
After enabling it just doesn't work
Settings - keyboard and languages - touch input - trace keyboard - enable.
Then long press any text entry screen and choose "Input Method" then "Touch Input". Works fine for me.

EDIT : Okay turned out you have to enable the prediction feature for trace to work, without prediction it just ignores your trace inputs.

not sure mate.. try disabling and renabling it?
i had no issues getting mine working and i find it quite handy. i tap away most of the time, but in landscape mode its good for bigger words. i dont tend to use it in portrait mode much.
Hi
Just wondering if Trace can be added/flashed separately if its not included in the Rom?

I found an alternative to the dialer, look at ex dialer on the "play" market (I really hate this new name, I wish Google go back to Android Market) and apply the ICS theme.
It looks and works great

it's somewhat per app... if the text block has the mic icon you don't need one on the keyboard so it doesn't show on the keyboard in some apps, especially if the app has a search function. and you can always use the hot words if you have it set to a compatible language...

well for example, it wont show up in hangouts, which is the only time i used this function (to text)
Yeah, this is important, I use it quite a bit to text. Swiftkey has it as a long press but I like the standard keyboard better so I'd prefer to use that.
You also need to enable voice typing, in addition to the mic.

Things that make me go "derp", thank you!
Also, I'm not sure if this is a requirement, but I did not see changes in my keyboard after changing those settings until after I performed a reboot. YMMV.
