Ok I have been reading since literally the first day the G2x came out about the "Horrible" battery life of the phone. So, after toying with it for about 8 days I have nailed it down so that the phone gets about 20 hours of Moderate use(Constant texting, internet for emails, YouTube, and searches, and probably about 2 hours of light gaming(not Nova or NFS)). So, Outside of the obvious like make sure your bluetooth, wifi, and GPS are off and turn your display brightness down here are my steps to Better Battery Life.
First - Root The Phone. There is plenty of links and help if you don't know how or have questions about rooting.
Second -(Root Needed) Use Titanium Backup or Antek App Manager(Antek is free) and Freeze or uninstall all the bloatware that you don't use off of your phone. Especially Car Home cause along with people on XDA i have also noticed that it does use a fair amount of battery for NO Reason.(Be careful with My T-mobile and My Device might throw your phone into a force close frenzy)
--For some reason people have been asking exactly what T-Mobile Apps you can freeze/uninstall and the answer is. All of Them. I personally left My T-Mobile(To view Minute Usage) and Wifi Calling(Cause I have no service in some buildings) and froze the rest, but you can get rid of everything you don't want or use.
Third -(Root Needed) Set CPU. Have had this on my G1 and N1 and it does nothing but save battery. I currently have it set on 216 - 1000 for when the screen is on and the only profile i have is for when the screen is off and it is at 216-216.
(Alternative) Pimp My CPU. I now am using this for my G2x because I am running custom kernal. Personally I like Set CPU better, but do to the fact that Set CPU can't get past 1000 MHz makes it kinda useless for the G2x Tegra 2.
Fourth -(Root Needed) Battery Calibration. There is an App in the Market for this and it is easier and less of a hassle than Factory Reseting the phone. Just charge all the way to 100% and i discharged to 0% and recharged it and Amazing difference in battery life. (And don't doubt the Calibrator cause right after i set it to calibrate the initial 100% got to zero in about 7 hours, but after that one cycle i was getting the 20 hours i am now)
Fifth - Elixir. Not only does this app display anything you might wanna see about your phone (CPU usage, battery temp, battery percentage, memory...) it also has a widget that lets you toggle your internet on/off. Which is almost necessary since "4G" kills battery like no other.
Sixth - Auto Sync. I shouldn't have to put this, but if you don't know your phone is set up to auto sync all your Google apps(Calendar, Gmail, Contacts) and Social Network apps(Facebook,Twitter). So go into settings and make sure that you turn auto sync off.
Now the next steps aren't proven to give extra life, but i did them just in case and well I get 20 hours of use like i said before.
Sixth - Watchdog. This app monitors all the other apps and processes in your phone and will alert you if a rogue app is draining your better life.
Seventh - I did the "Alternate Battery Fix". This involves changing one setting and who knows maybe it does help me get extra juice.
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1051036
Eighth - Wifi Never sleep. Supposedly according to some if you change wifi to Never Sleep it will stop some loop in the programing which in turn will save battery.
Ninth - Wifi Calling. If you didn't decide to freeze/uninstall this app. Make sure that this is OFF, because whenever you have wifi on it will constantly flip between Wifi Calling and normal radio towers, which once again is bad for your battery life.
Well, Thats that and if y'all can think of anything that i missed or have any questions or ideas let me know! And remember this is a Dual-Core, High-End, Monster Phone and duh if you use it hardcore (Movies, HD Games, tons of web browsing) the battery will die fairly quick.
P.S. Will post a Screen Shot of Uptime for 20 hours later(if it doesn't Re-boot before i get to 20)
Update #1: Have read all the posts and have decided to speak up about a couple things.
Task Killers - I feel like these are brought up in every thread ever created about batteries, and well they are useless. So, if you are gonna bring up the ram usage argument. Android is made to kill programs that are either inactive for to long or the operating system will shut down background tasks if a new app needs the cpu power. Than for those who say that it helps close programs and makes the battery last longer.Having a Task Killer that basically re-closes the same apps over and over again(These are usually bloatware background apps that for some reason never stop running) is not gonna do anything except waste precious battery life on running the task killer itself cause the app will just restart. Your best bet is to run watchdog find the apps that are taking to much battery and freeze/uninstall them.
Managing Apps - Apps like Tasker, Juice Defender, and the like are in my opinion not battery savers at all. They are just tools to implement what i have already previously stated, but that doesn't mean that they aren't useful. They are good if you have a busy schedule and have to constantly turn the internet on and off or switch between certain settings, but they are not actually a cause of better battery just a tool to implement what you could do on your own.
I've done most of those things over the course of the last week and I just got a little over 24 hours on my last charge.
Those tips are legit.
Thanks! I was kinda worried about it cause it was my first post!

Great job! I've been getting about 20hrs of battery life using some of these... now I have more tricks to add =-)
Good job! I'm almost done withall the tweaks and have say it helping. Thanks

Great tips. I was doing most of those, but have added the calibration software as well as watchdog. I have also found Juice Defender to be a big help.
Thanks again.
this is still not acceptable for a phone in 2011 to still have that kind of battery, most people out there aren't really concerned about tweaking their phones or dont even know about it. Im not gonna use setCPU or anything else, i expect things just to work flawlessly out of the box.
Tasker can be a friend in this whole deal too.
If you can automate your radios & screen brightness to exactly what you need when you need it you can save significant battery life.
If your WiFi calling app can't stay on wifi, you need to fix your wifi network and not your phone.

With all of these changes having a toggle for haptic feedback I assume would help a ton...considering its a touchscreen and a retardedly fast phone. Otherwise it vibrates on every damn user input. Just curious what others think about this. Anyways, thanks for this post....the forum is getting congested.

Yeah, but on the flip side your an early adopter for technology that literally JUST CAME OUT and so there is no perfected system for it. I mean the version of android we are running right now doesn't even truly support dual-core! So yes this is the price we pay, and if dual core had been out for two years I would completely agree but it hasn't. This is what android has always been built on a semi flawed system but top of the line technology and thanks to the great community we have we can push the limit of every device out there even the g1.

I meant this for people like myself who live in an area ( or college like me) where you are constantly moving in and out of wifi range and that would take a drain on your battery.

I think the reason we have so much haptic feedback though is because we are lacking physical buttons and the small vibration gives us the sense of a solid keyboard even though as you stated everything is a touch screen. Well that is my 2 cents anyway.

I will definitely look into tasker and check it out personally and add it to the list later! Thanks!
Update: I have seen programs or apps like this before many moons ago i used a program called wisyncplus and basically it is just profiles. This I guess could be used to increase battery life, but in my opinion apps like this and Juice Defender and what not are simply 1) too much of a hassle - cause you have to usually set up each profile individually 2)This is more of a convenience - It doesn't actually increase battery life it is just a manager almost like a widget.
Than back to your argument about the screen brightness my auto-adjust does just fine depending on the lighting and honestly in less your watching a movie, playing video games, or doing intense web browsing your more than likely not even gonna have your screen on that long. (and to those of you that say the Auto-Adjust doesn't work remember that this is an LCD screen it is lit from behind so it is gonna seem brighter unlike the Nexus S which is lit in the screen making it viewable with less brightness)
Than for automating radios honestly there is already widgets for that. The stock rom comes with a Wifi on/off widget so no complaints there, and elixir(which is a free and very useful app) comes with a apn off/on widget which is really all you need cause in my experience unless my internet is on I see no difference in battery life being GSM preferred over WCDMA preferred.
So in less you really do have a tight schedule, or just don't wanna mess with changing settings manually(and with widgets), Yes, Tasker is perfect cause it basically does everything for you.(even though i am pretty sure there are free apps exactly like Tasker)
(Sorry if this came off kinda rude I don't mean to flame at all just trying to say all of my opinion and back it up as best i can)

if this is the case, i don't think that an open-source phone is for you. the beauty of android is that anyone can personalize it and tinker with it.
the g2x is sort of like a muscle car- it has lots of [dual core]power, but the trade off is trying to manage battery life.

For the sake of min/maxing battery drain I would think toggling the vibrate after every input would help. I actually like the keyboard without it pulsing all the damn time. And my hearing might be a little sensitive to where I dislike the fart sounding vibrate motor. Haha.

Couldn't have said it better myself. This is exactly why I am a huge android supporter/early adopter, a car fanatic, and a Mechanical Engineering major. Because I love the individuality of it all and to be able to own something that can be unique to me.

I dont think turning off haptic feedback will really make to much of a difference in terms of battery use.
Our phones are dual core phones, in every test run dual core phones have less of a battery draw because two cpus is better then one. When dealing with a multicore phone/computer the device can have more power without using more energy because there is less stress on the cores. The old way was a bigger battery drainer then this because 1 core would have to use more energy to produce equal amount of power that a 2 core setup would. As spencer said and we have all been saying its more of a software issue then a hardware issue. Imagine loading a computer with 24gbs of memory and have an core i7-Xtream chipset and using windows 7 32bit its pretty much a waste. I believe a lot of the issues that everyone is experiencing will be fixed by a software update or the dev team when roms of the gingerbread nature come out.
Spencer nice post btw!
Hi,
I've got an HTC One S since a few weeks (got it with the 1.57 FW I think). It's a stock one, not from a carrier. No branding.
The battery life was great, 2 to 3 days with normal use.
But yesterday evening I proceeded to the OTA update and since then, trouble began
Battery life is much, much lower. After 12 hours standing on my desk in the office, I got 10% remaining!
Anytime I switch the screen ON, I see there is some data being sent (or received) because the "arrows" are full. If I check in system panel lite, there's always 1 or 2 kb/s of traffic.
Also, the phone is a bit warm, quite often.
Has anyone else noticed this? That's rather annoying :/
Could be faulty? I have the same phone with no carrier or branding and not had any problems at all.
Like faulty hardware? Seems unlikely to me since it worked well with 1.57. Also, sending data isn't hardware related
Here are some details.
In Mobile usage, just for today (less than 24h)
"Media" has used 13MB of background data
"Android OS" has used 5MB, also background
Android OS gives no more details. Media is told to include "Download manager" "DRM protected content storage" "Media storage" and "Downloads"
This sounds like a lot of background data :/
Try an app called Badass Battery monitor. It should tell you what's eating your battery.

I have to say, this phone, at least mines, seems to have a pretty bi polar battery. It's got a case of ADHD.
For example, just the other day, I had the phone fully charged when I awoke at 9am, after playing Temple Run, surfing the web, using GPS, streaming and listening to music, playing more Temple Run, fiddling around with the OS, checking emails, sending texts, talking on the phone a bit, downloading apps, with about 25-30% brightness, I ended up with 18% battery remaining after a good 11 hours of very heavy use. I was quite pleased, considering the inordinate amount of usage I had with the phone all day.
(BTW, I use Juice Defender, which has helped tons in reducing battery drainage for almost every phone I've owned in the past 3 months, including the One S)
Yesterday, I had the phone charged at 100% when I awoke at 9am, with a little bit of use, by 12am, I had 63% remaining, same brightness, but with much much less use then the day prior. By the time 3pm hit, I was at about 30%, and by 5pm, it was drained to 18%, mostly on standby. By my estimation, that's 8 hours of usage, same brightness levels as the day before, using Juice Defender, but with much much less fiddling around with pretty much everything on the device.
I went ahead and disabled Juice Defender today to see if it would make a difference, and the battery actually got a bit worse, so I went ahead and re-enabled it and it immediately improved.
So I'm a bit perplexed, I haven't gotten any official updates, still running on the original stock build, but ultimately, I guess this is what is too be expected with an early build. Hopefully future updates WILL fix these issues and not hinder them more. Granted it's still much better then my HTC Amaze and Galaxy Nexus, which drained 4% the moment I took them off charger.
Thanks for your input, I'll check again today how the phone goes.
I played with all the settings and menus yesterday, and found something strange. In the "downloads" app, there was a "system update" download. That's quite normal since I downloaded and applied the OTA the day before. But it was referred as "ongoing", like it was still downloading a part of the OTA zip file AFTER I applied it (and rebooted a couple of times)
In phone settings, about, updates, it was also written "ongoing"
Now this is over (I don't know why and how) and the network usage seems back to normal. I'll try today to see how the battery drain is
Anyway, it's s strange the phone was still downloading the update zip file after having applied it. AND that it was downloading it on the 3G at a very lowered bitrate (like background) while I downloaded it on the wifi the day before
Anyway...
The battery life of my One S seems to have declined as well since the update. Before the update my battery lasted 2 days easily with moderate usage. Now I have 20-30% left at the end of the day from a full charge since 9am. This is with very light usage (mostly on standby from 9 to 5).
I did turn on best wifi performance recently so I just to turned that off to see if it helps but I really doubt that.
Hello guys, I have same problem, but my phone wasting energy on "phone radio" process, just look at screens below. I tried using stock Rom with last update, trickdroid, and now it happend on leedroid v.2 . Btw I changed 4 micro sim cards with several providers, but no result. I really need help with this issue, because my battery draining very very
fast...
Thank you

I had a similar problem a few days ago, using Lee´s ROM.
I noticed that the drain had something to do with autosync. As soon as I turned off autosync (leaving mobile internet on) drainage went back to normal.
I still don´t know what caused this since I only had the google account, weather and dropbox installed.
Anyway, after doing a fresh install, the problems seem to have gone.
Of course I can´t be completely certain of it until some more days of testing/usage.
I also noticed quite a few problems since the latest OTA update.
Not only does the battery drain fast, the phone also feels extremely hot when browsing on 3G.
The phone does cool down pretty quickly when turning off 3G but it feels like I burned my hands
Here are a few screenshots.

I also experienced weird things when connected to EDGE (2.75G).
3G (HSPA) coverage on BASE (KPN) sucks in Belgium
Look at the video below for more details.
Has anyone else experienced this yet?
http://youtu.be/3g8FLpWDAYM
I also contacted HTC about this issue and they recommended a hard reset.
Unfortunately this doesn't help at all, I still get these weird glitches
mattionline, can you get a logcat when the phone's doing this weird stuff? It looks like the Home button is being pressed repeatedly and if logcat confirms it then it's probably a hardware problem.

Do you need root to make a logcat ? My phone is not rooted and I'm not planning to do it. How can this be a hardware problem ? I never had this problem before. I'm sure that it's a software bug.

I just fixed someone else phone that had the exact same symptoms. In the end I narrowed down the problem to one of his weather apps.
He had a live wallpaper that reflected the current weather, weather on his lock screen and a beautiful widgets weather thing. I never did figure out exactly which one it was I just turned off all there and told him he was crazy.
I don't know if it's something "weather" related for you but it maybe it will help.

you don't need root, just enable usb debugging in development options and connect the phone to your pc. You need to have the android sdk installed.
Sup guys , some of you don't seem to realize that there are many reasons why your battery drains, what you might think is, "quickly". A few tips to keep minimal battery out put...1 keep brightness down, the screen itself sucks juice probably the most. 2 check your apps, some apps send and receive data and/or are kept running in the background. You might have to enable/disable setting on shove apps. 3 widgets, widgets like battery meters, CPU meters, things like this constantly refresh to keep real time info. That also eats up alot of juice . 4 Turn off WiFi or any other thing like that when your not using it. WiFi continually sucks nice. Lastly, invest in some app that will help you close apps. Basically, tweek everything you might think that the os can run without. The less your CPU has to do, the more juce you save.

This made me lol hard.
Best advice ever.
But yeah, on the 1.0 version of Leedroid I had quite some drain, too.
When I turned off autosync it went back to normale. I only had my google account, dropbox (with syncing off) and the weather thingy set up and never figured out which one was resposible.
After installing Lee´s 2.0 ROM everything is fine.
I suppose there really is something wrong with the autosync and maybe with the weather stuff in particular.
My problem didn't go away with stopping auto sync, even without it, I had a constant data flow
Anyway, I rebooted the phone twice and the issue was gone.
It happened again a few days later, after the phone did shut down because of low battery. I put it on charger and turned it on, then, I noticed the 3G arrows were always on. After I unplugged it from the charger the battery went down in 10 hours. After a reboot, problem gone...
Since then, nothing...
And please note than when the problem is here, it's media and android os using a lot of data
I have been having one S problems too - I am on my second phone after the first one became reliably unresponsive every time I turned on mobile data. More relevant to this discussion, my battery died shockingly last night. Normally it drains at a few percent an hour when I am not using it (i.e. when asleep!) but I woke this morning to find it totally dead - that is 30% plus gone in 5 hours without it being in use.
Hey guys,
I've been battling location related wakelocks from Gnow et al recently and finally came to simply using Xposed and WakeLock Terminator to block those wakelocks (which appears to correct that issue) and instead, immediately after, had audiomix keep my phone awake (despite no video/music/sounds). Upon research, I just keep finding wakelock after wakelock after setting to debug and fix - is there actually any way to get a dependable device? Am I doomed to always hope the night before my meeting is not the night the phone decides it's playing imaginary audio all night?
I love Android, I love the Nexus 5, and I can deal with 1-2% idle burn, I can deal with 4-5 hours SoT, and I can deal with leaving some location related things off. What I ABSOLUTELY cannot deal with is never knowing. For a device I'm paying well into three digits for that's supposed to take notes, make reminders, keep me in touch, and so on, it had DAMN well be able to stay on. I hated the iPhone in many ways, but dependability was something it never failed in - it did always work.
I've tried settings, I've tried debugging battery, I've tried custom ROM and stock ROM, three different kernels (counting stock).
So, tell me, what do I do to be able to count on my phone (without disabling everything enjoyable besides radio)? Please do not flame me for this, but I'm actually losing my patience fast. Any help is appreciated (and yes, I've checked forums, looked up the "improving Nexus 5 battery" posts, and what not - I realize I'll lose battery with High Accuracy location on, I realize WiFi drains it a bit, that's fine. I'm simply talking about fixing the bullsh*t stuff).
Thank you so much in advance.
Well how long does your battery last? And what does your battery stats say you get for usage and screen time?
The whole Android system operates on wakelocks, if you get rid of em all you'll just have a brick. It's the excessive ones that shouldn't be you need to stop

Sounds to me like you're too much into finding a problem
Audio Mix is actually a number of things, not just songs playing or Spotify etc. how long does your battery last ? i don't even touch wake locks or battery saving apps and i get a consistent 3:30 hours screen on time with 14 hours standby
Thats with a usage of :
Chrome
whatsapp
facebook
youtube
twitter
Google Now on
Location high accuracy
tasker - checking network location
" ok google" everywhere
manual brightness
mix of wifi/3g
etc
You mentioned a lot of wakelocks and didn't actually mention the sort of battery life you're getting
You may be right about the finding a problem thing. I'm probably a bit paranoid now, but I do get between 6-15% burn per out SoT and seemingly indefinite idle (Carbon + ElementalX is nice) when it's working like expected - it's just the inconsistency that drives me insane. If it was ALWAYS 2%/hour idle burn, I could learn to deal with that. It's just when I go to bed with it at 30-40% and wake up with it dead that I can't afford to have happen.
Read post one and 2 for tips.

It's difficult to be consistent all the time with a phone, the radio in a bad area can kill your battery just as you mentioned... That being said 40% overnight is insane
I seem to have fixed the wakelock by removing DSP Manager and blocking location wakelocks. I'm a little OCD with technology... lol
AudioMixIn? That's the OK Google hotword detection feature.
Battery has been consistent for me. The only time it isn't is when I'm in an area with weak signal and trying to use data, then power usage can go up 10x as high as normal even just idling. Otherwise, I always know what to expect but I have turned paired down the features that tend to drain uncontrollably when the phone isn't even being used such as WiFi Locations and Auto Syncs.

That shouldn't ever happen (never has for me), but if you want it to be full in the morning it's best to plug it in.
I wish battery threads would die a long, slow painful death.
If battery threads had a human form, I'd torture them like Theon in GOT.
The answer? Every device is different. No battery life from one user will be replicated by another user.
BOTTOM LINE.
There are too many various factors for battery to remain consistent as others have stated. The only thing you can do is attempt to be resourceful and your battery life should remain decent to high all the time.
Lower brightness, disable unneeded features, uninstall non-used apps, use Greenify on Facebook/Kik, use 2G radio when not connected to WiFi if you can deal with it.

Is anyone having issues with battery drain while not using their phone? My wife and I both have noticed pretty good battery drain while we're not using our phones. Going into settings and checking under the battery menu, all we show is phone idle. I've adjusted all my settings to be as battery friendly as possible including turning of wifi and mobile data, minimum brightness, 30 second screen time out, constantly clearing my recents, black wallpapers, daydream off. We're still losing battery life pretty quickly and for the life of me I can't figure it out.
Long live doodoo
Does anyone have anything to add to this?

I seemed to incur significant standby drain because I disabled some apps. I just reenabled them this morning. Still need to keep an eye on things, but I will copy my days results from the other thread. To see more details on what has been going on, check the other thread.
Right now I am at 66% with 2:05 SOT and 16 hours since unplugging. The Android OS, held awake, and Google Play Services are all somewhat reduced.

As far as disabling apps, the only thing I've disabled are the vzw apps and also the Amazon apps. There's a lot there that I don't know what they are so I just left them alone.
As far as my idle time is concerned, it had gotten a little bit better, but it is nowhere even close to what I could get out of my nexus 6. When I'm actually using the phone, the battery drains pretty quickly as well. I installed gsam battery monitor after reading through the thread that you posted above. I figure I'll need to wait a couple of days to get a true feedback from that app. Once it stabilizes, I'll report back what it says.

I have recently noticed that I get drain when I use Google (now) and/or Chrome. I don't use either too much so I am still investigating. When I use them I get a lot of held awake time in GSAM and a lot of Google Play Services and Android OS battery usage in the native battery usage app. I have to stop the apps and reboot to get the drain to stop. At least that is what is seems like at this point. Still messing around with it. If you use those apps a lot it may be a pain to deal with. If it is one or the other, hopefully an update will fix the issue.
I don't have google now activated, but I do use chrome. I don't see out rubbing in any background services though.
I did forget to mention that I revived nova launcher and all apps associated with it, (tesla unread, nova prime, unused icon packs), I also uninstalled any apps that I have not been using or rarely use.
Having said that, i did give google maps full permissions, went back to the stock launcher that came with the phone, and I did keep all my disabled apps....disabled. I charged my battery to 100%. I pulled my phone off the charger and it took over 30 minutes for the battery to get below 100%. I just got home about 15 minutes ago, and all I've done is Check my email and reply this post and my battery has dropped 5%. It hasn't even been 10 minutes. That's pretty bad. That would equate to roughly 30% an hour.
I'll keep updating as i search for things. I'll try dialing chrome and see what happens.
Hello all,
I just bought a new galaxy s7 silver (exynos variant) around 3 days ago and my battery life seems to be really bad. I've only managed to achieve 1h 56m screen on time and I'm already at 41%! I keep auto brightness on and leave always on display off and don't keep things like mobile data active. If anyone can suggest how to fix this it would be phenomenal .
I was quite sad considering I have heard of people who can achieve 5+ hours screen on time with regular usage and not having to compromise on switching everything off .
Thanks for the help in advance
Do you have Google Chrome installed? And can you see something like "media server" in you battery usage log as a high power consumer?

I would send you a picture of my battery statistics but for some reason every time I try to upload a picture I get "network error"
My top consumers are :
Screen 31%
Android system 19%
Android OS 9%
Cell standby 7%
Mediaserver 4%
And Also I do have Google Chrome installed
Good day.
Try this and see if it works:
-In settings -> privacy and safety -> location -> improve accuracy - Turn off wifi scanning (The phone turns on and off wifi regularly for location purposes and it uses some battery)
-In settings -> Display - Turn off smart stay
-In settings -> Advanced features - Turn off pop-up view gesture, Smart capture, palm swype to capture, smart alert and easy mute.
-In settings -> Accounts - Turn off auto sync
Turn off hardware step counter at S-health app.
Use Greenify to hibernate samsung and google play app and services.
And if you want to stretch it more have a look at this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/how-to/touchwiz-bloatware-save-to-remove-list-t3330241)
Hope it works for you.

Hi mate,
The 2nd guy in this post touched on it. When you see Mediaserver on your battery stats it's normally a sign that your phone, since being on, has got quite hot and there has been substantial battery drain. I've had this same issue before too. Factory resetting etc wouldn't help. And the phone would get so hot. Eventually I read and found a link between Google chrome and Mediaserver. I deleted chrome and mysteriously the issue left, that was on my last s7. My current s7 I got yesterday and haven't got this issue once, despite using chrome right now.

Yeah I did notice that the phone was heating up rapidly and my battery life was falling heavily. I will delete it and give an update to see if it works.
Thank you
Right I tried it and at first I thought that it worked but then today I am down to 25% with only 2h 5mns screen on time. Anyone got any other ideas?
Sorry read that wrong lol I read 25% battery for 2 hrs screen on time!
Accounts syncing in the background could be a culprit or some of the fancy software functionality that Samsung cook in to touchwiz. I generally don't have anything working or syncing that I don't use.
Might be worth going through all of your settings one by one. That's what I did when I first got the phone.

I'll give it a shot , how does your battery life seems to do? also, do you use power saving mode ?
At this moment in time I've had 2 hours 44 minutes of screen on time and I've got 53% battery left.
The majority of that usage has been on WiFi though and I do have auto brightness enabled. One thing I have noticed about the s7 screen is, it is very good quality and incredibly bright. I have spent a good amount of time tweaking the auto brightness so the screen isn't any brighter than it needs to be in various light conditions.
I was suffering from rapid battery draining and the phone getting overly warm when I had Google Chrome installed. I've removed it, and it has taken those issues away completely.
I have come from a nexus 6p and don't miss the extra 500mAh of battery to be honest.
3hr 28 minutes of screen on time now with 43% battery left. Still on WiFi but have been playing a bit of order and chaos 2, reading the news, browsing forums and general Internet surfing. I don't have much on in terms of push notifications other than Gmail and have my Samsung Internet app syncing and some stuff related to my Google account.
If it's of any help at all, my phone is on the 3 network in the UK running the stock 3 branded firmware.
