[Q] Deletion of swype - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hello there everybody. I'm new to this site and am also new to "rooting." I just rooted my droid x and by accident I deleted swype instead of skype. I can't imagine my phone without sywpe! How do I get it back? I tried going to 4shared.com and downloading it from there. But after I did it said that swype wasnt right for my screen size. I'm currently running 2.3 so if anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

1. That's why you always keep app backups. Get Titanium Backup and set up a schedule.
2. Do you have a nandroid backup you can go to?
3. Try to get in the Swype beta.
4. Keep looking online for the one for your screen size. It's definitely available.

Sprint nfl on cm6 nightlys & RC2 ~UPDATED~

If your like me then you really enjoy flashing them CM6 Nightlys so perfect in every way but wait I cant get my Sprint NFL apk to work football season is here what can I do? Well I found a solution.
1)Nandroid your current CM6 (of course)
2)Flash a “stock” 2.2 rom that way it has all original apks
3)Click Sprint NFL you will immeadiatly be prompted to upgrade do this
4)Now if you don’t already use Titanium Backup download it from the market it is free
5)Now run the backup all apks and system data (you can deselect all and check Sprint NFL no reason to back everything)
6)Now nandroid back to your CM6 install the Sprint NFL apk(I will include it in case you don’t have a copy on deck)
7)If you don’t already have Titanium get it again same place
8)Run the restore all apks and system data(deselect all like before so its just the Sprint NFL)
NOW YOUR SPRINT NFL WILL BE UPGRADED AND ABLE TO FUNCTION ON CM6!!
Hope this helps some football fans cuz its actually a pretty good apk OH ALSO YOU MUST ALSO HAVE THE SPRINT UPDATER APK INSTALLED IF YOU USE VISUAL VOICEMAIL YOU DO IM SURE IF NOT I WILL ALSO INCLUDE.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OKAY SO I NOTICED SOME PEOPLE WERE HAVING A LIL BIT OF TROUBLE SO I DECIDED TO SEE IF I COULD MAKE THINGS EASIER AND AFTER SOME FAIRY DUST AND TESTING NOW IT IS. THERE IS NOW A NEW AND ALTERED NFL APK LINK WHICH WILL WORK ON CM6 NIGHTLIES AS WELL AS RC2 WHATEVER YOUR THING MAY BE. AS SAID BEFORE YOU DO NEED SPRINT APP UPDATER IF YOU USE VISUAL VOICE MAIL THEN YOU HAVE IT. I SEEN QUESTIONS LIKE CAN YOU WATCH LIVE GAMES THIS I DONT KNO BUT THERE ARE VIDEOS AND COULD BE POSSIBLE AND IF I DIDNT THINK THIS WAS A GREAT APK I WOULDNT WASTE MY TIME PLUS IM DIGGING THE ANDROID OS AND WELL I GUESS EVERYBODY STARTS SMALL. THAT SAID GO STEELERS AND I HOPE FOOTBALL FANS APPRICIATE THIS. SO FORGET ABOUT THE TITANIUM PROCESS JUST INSTALL THE APK GOOD 2 GO!!!
This is Sprint NFL or Sprint Football app?
Official name is Sprint NFL Live
Can u watch games live on this app

I have been trying to get this to work on AOSP for weeks, thanks for the help!!
Works great, thanks.

Thank you so much you just saved me so much time! this forum rocks!

I have the exact same problem, I start it and within a few seconds I get booted back to my home screen.
zeropants, is your wifi turned on and connected??
Im not sure what directions your talking of bcuz the latests post I did alls you have to do is install the app and you do need sprint updater app which is also included. Also what rom are you using?
On a side note...changing ur SPRINT banner with cdma workshop will not allow NFL live to work. I had this happen and just changing it back to 'Sprint' works. It told me I was not a Sprint/Nextel customer and only option was to exit....so no special banner for me just yet.

same issue here, apparently sprint updater wont work on AOSP, only works with HTC roms. So, this may be useless???

MyBackup Root FREE (newest version attached)

Hi all,
I just came across this thread and thought I'd share. I have downloaded it from the Android Market and it seems to work fine. Everything is straight forward and easy to use. I have also attached the apk in case you can not get it through the market.
EDIT:
I have attached the newest version from the market (ver 3.2.1)
Please make sure you hit the THANKS button!

It's cool! phanks!
I was looking for this app because my Magic is pretty unstable and a lot of things don't work: calendar won't show events, Maps crashes, Market crashes etc.
I donwloaded this file, but it says 'please update to the newest version', but since my market crashes I can't do anything.
Gonna wipe it out without a backup then.
Thanks for the effort of putting it online though!
Its the best backup utility I've come across.
Thanks man..

about to start my first root/rom

Hello group,
Wish me luck. I am about to start my first root/rom install. Going with Andromeda. This will be applied to my 5th replacement phone for the auto shut down issue. It just arrived. I am getting tired of getting replacements and waiting for a good one so that I can go to 2.2. I have read the guides. I have a couple questions that I can't find a clear answer on.
1) I already have a paid version of mybackup pro. Can that be used instead of titanium?
2) My phone is up and running on the stock 2.1. Is it normal to restore all apps, data and system settings from the 2.1 phone to the 2.2 install? Are the system setting compatible between the two?
3) I think I recall some mention of writing down some number from your original phone so that if you have to set it back to stock for warranty. I don't see that in the official instructions though. Is there such a precaution necessary?
Thanks in advance.

2.Never restore system data. Your just asking for trouble if you do.
3. Back up your efs folder from system and copy it to your pc. As roms chnage android id and imei
cool thanks for the quick response. Nubish question from your response. How do I backup the "efs" folder I don't see it using the phone to browse the files or mounting the phone via usb and browsing via the pc. Do I have to root it first?

Yes you will need to root it first and then you will need a files explorer that will allow you to get to the system files. I use Root Explorer my self. One of the few apps that is well worth the money
good luck with the first go at it. I just did the same the other day and must say best decision I made with this phone.
What everyone else said is good. I would also back up your contacts and write down your APN settings. Some ROMs change the APN.
Contacts:
1) Contacts > menu button > Import/Export > Export to SD Card > you will get a vcard file saved to your sd card. You should also back this up on your pc.
2) You can also sync your contacts with your gmail account. I usually take the vcard from earlier and import it into gmail.
APN:
1) Settings > Wireless and network > Mobile networks > Access Point Names > just write down the settings in case they change in the future.

Instead of this nonsense
You will be nothing but happy after flashing. I do not mpost much on here, just read and read, but this site is excellent in finding what you need. I ran Phoenix for a while and it was very good, but I have flashed Serendipity 5.0 with the latest Speedmod kernel and its working great. Battery life seems to have improved for me with this combination.
So did you flash?? What was the outcome? Success? Check out Ceszar's continuum theme for Andromeda, just love that along with Andromeda 2.0
I'm curious too as to how everything went for you.

Yes i flashed. running andromeda for the past couple days. seems fine. much faster and the gps lokcs in seconds now. with 2.2 i can now use skype, flash, chrome to phone and use the power button for the camera shutter. All wins for me. I am not sure I get any more battery life out of this setup. I have been playing with it non stop, so I don't have any real world numbers on the battery life. I also learned that mybackup pro can't restore apps backed up from 2.1 to 2.2 I tried 3 times and every time the apps would fail at some point and I wold have to hard close them.
I have noticed a couple times that I have lost the data connections either on wifi or the 3g. Not sure it's the rom, hardware or just plain bad cell sites. but on reboot the connections were fine.
Over all impressed with the dev team for adromeda. They have an irc channel and there seems to be someone always there to answer my questions.

Just an update.
I rolled back to the untheamed 1.0 andromeda and then applied the DMT Dark Theme. did not like the battery meter so loaded modded circle one. Pretty happy with the look now. See the attached running launcher pro.
That looks really good.
I wish I had seen this thread before you installed that new ROM. I would have told you that stickies are for sissies.
Do it all from the seat of your pants and depend on luck. That's what I say. (j/k)
Do you see that business about restoring all system data? I tried that yesterday, I think it was. Got a good install of Paragon RC5. I think I then tried a full system data restore from TiBu. Rebooted the phone and it started back up so that it required a PIN to unlock it. I guess because I had been using that function before install of RC5. The PIN did not work. Tried this method not only once, but twice. Finally figured out how to use TiBu for real, I think. Makes me wonder if these locking schemes are worth using. I suppose they might buy you just a little bit of time in case of theft.
If you get to jonesing for something new, check out the ROM mentioned above.
Glad you're happy with your efforts!
.
Glad to hear it all went well for you. And I like the look you got going there. Seems like you did great for your first time

[Q] Backup EVERYTHING to flash new rom

Ok I've been searching for a while now and can't find a full solution. I want to flash the updated Leedroid rom to my Inspire but I don't want to lose ANYTHING. My goal is to flash the new rom and have my phone be exactly the same as before the flash, just updated. I need like a 100% guarantee. I don't want to backup anything to google contacts because it degrades the photos, and I don't want to lose any accounts or app data.
Thank

Yes, Titanium Backup will backup everything, even system data. However, if you are switching between ROMs, you do not want to restore system data (eg. going from Sense to CM7) you will have a ton of issues.

Ok so I won't lose texts, call logs, favorites, settings, accounts, app data...EVERYTHING? I'm staying with Sense just simply updating to the new Leedroid from the previous version.
Titanium backup does not back up call logs, text messages etc. It can back up apps, app data and configurations, and system data. As said above, you do not want to back up system data when u are going from one rom to another. Even if its the same rom but different version. The only right way I know of to do what your asking is if the developer of the rom u are using offers incremental rom updates. That way, no data or configurations is deleted. You may be new to android...so I offer this warning to you....don't try and cut corners or invent ways of trying to accomplish something...you will either find yourself having lots of problems with your phone or end up bricking it. If it could be done, there would already be a process to do it, made by the developers on this forum.

I'm not trying to cut corners at all that's why I posted this. I keep being told what not to do but I'm still not getting the answer I need. What am I going to lose? What can I save? Using what? What is the best app/apps to get the most I can in a backup. I'm not trying to be ungrateful for the help it's just rather frustrating after searching for hours and can't get a solid answer. I hate when people are just like "no that won't work" lol offer the most info you can to help someone out. That's why these forums are here. Again I'm just annoyed a can't get a full answer lol

See that's exactly what I'm talking about lol I have looked it up this is exactly what the description says:
"The ONLY tool that can backup, restore, freeze (with Pro) your apps + data + Market links! Even protected apps! 0-click Batch/scheduled backups! PRO version has 0-click batch restores, Dropbox sync, Dalvik cleaner & MORE!"
That does explain anything at all. It's simple man if you know the info share it. If you don't have the time to write something helpful on here, I get that. But don't write something just to write a reply. I obviously need help so I don't mess things up. I'm trying to get helpful info not just someone saying "go look it up". I've tried. I keep coming up on MyBackup Pro and Titanium Backup Pro, but they don't tell me what I can't restore when I'm flashing a new rom and what I can't backup. Simply stating that it backups "data" and "settings" doesn't help me if I don't know what exactly that means. Just making a backup isn't what I'm trying to achieve.
The best app to backup IMO is titanium backup. But again, when going from one rom to the next, this backs up apps only. There is no effective way that I know of to back up your text messages, call logs etc. So the implied message is, you will loose everything that is not an app backed up by titanium backup. The main purpose of titanium backup is to back up your apps so u don't have to redownload everything. Other than that, the only other recommended backup method is nandroid backup through clockwork mod recovery. This backup is a full system image backup. So restoring through this method will put u right back to the same rom and version you were at. So in short, do a titanium backup, wipe, install your new rom, titanium backup to restore your apps, and start reconfiguring away like the rest of us do.

Not correct. TiBu will back up texts and call logs. It's probable you don't know that because you don't restore system data. I've never had a problem doing that, but I guess everyone has a different experience.

I understand that not finding the answer you seek in its entirety can be a bit troubling. But in my humble opinion, trial and error is part of this never ending adventure we call Android OS.
As stated above, Titanium Backup will probably be your best bet to get "most" of the backup you seek.

Exactly. Android is a completely different animal than iPhone. Android is built on Linux. So its going to be completely different. Not sure about the apps that claim to backup texts...never heard anybody use that before and I've had no need for it. I had the same issue with contacts but I just found it easier to go ahead and sync Google contacts. Because when you enter the world of flashing, that's one less thing you have to worry about backing up and restoring...because its stored online. And as soon as you install your new rom, and then sign in to your Google account, it will automatically download your contacts to your new rom. And whenever you edit contacts, it automatically syncs in real-time.

Grr you suck lol I want nice looking photos. That's something else we need to figure out. Or is it impossible because Google just sucks with that right now? lol
That's a valid point. It frustrates me too. But ultimately, when you start flashing, you want to find a way to streamline the process to what works best for you. And like said earlier, the android experience is trial and error. But again, that doesn't include doing things that's likely going to eff up your phone...unless you simply don't care about turning your phone into a really expensive paper weight. Then you will be that Guy that's posting on the forum....help! I messed up my phone.

Lol exactly I'd rather ask for help and seem like a newb, which I am, then be the one crying after I messed things up and it's too late. So ANYTHING I've downloaded including the amazon app store, which was a PITA to get on the phone, will be saved using Tbackup right? And that's it. Photos and all that good stuff are saved to the SD card and what not I just need to flash the new rom and then put my email accounts and I'm good to go right?

(REQ) Sprint VVM for 2.3.x

I've noticed that all the Sprint VVM apps floating around are outdated and I'm assuming that's the reason they don't seem to work any more. Does anyone have a confirmed working version? The .48 version that you have to extract the titanium back up folder doesn't work. I've tried manually backing up the old fresh 2.1 version and got no where. I even used decks gapps with VVM included. Anyone got anything new that works? Thanks in advance!

From there all you have to do is install it in what ever Rom you are using i.e. CM7 or MIUI; Use Root Explorer it makes it easer. It also will get rid of the gost voicemail notification on Evo Shift.
I too hate GV since they changed the way it works. I decided to try Better YouMail from the market and couldn't be happier. $3 was well worth the lack of frustration. I like the interface it uses better than GV or Sprint VVM.

is this newer than the .48 version.
im running cm7 & have the .48 version installed & working, so is this an upgrade to .48
yes its the latest version, its works great on cm7 on my shift
I to am using YouMail and love it! Much better then VVM and by far better then Google Voice. There are so many options and best of all its free. Of course there is a subscription available too but I dont need my voice mails transcribed for me so the free version works just perfect.
