[i9003] [REF] Extracted system.rfs - Samsung Galaxy SL i9003

I have extracted the system.rfs of the new GT-I9003 firmware I9003XXJL9 which I think might be helpful for moders and developers.

Edit: This is a froyo 2.2.1, not a 2.3 as thought.

ok, but... What are the advantages of this system.rfs ?

It's the same as factoryfs.rfs on the I9000 firmwares, everything except the kernel and the modem firmware. The XXJL9 is Gingerbread firmware.

Meaning with this,
We get one Big step for unofficial gingerbread Rom, and a giant leap for GalaxyS kind.

Correct, when the applications etc. has been de-odexeded then they can be freely put in any costume ROM that can be flashed to an I9000 and will look/behave exactly as a Nexus S/I9003.

eh, clearly 2.2.1 after downloading. system.prop says 2.2.1 and froyo all over the place and build.prop says sdk version 8 (which is froyo)... boo misleading and disappointment

You are correct, I did not check the build.prop file, my mistake. This is why I thought that it was a 2.3 version: http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=2707&c=samsung_gt-i9003
I would like to ask the mods to delete this thread.

So it doesnt comes with 2.3?

Like I said, its for developers, and most developers remove all bloatware, then, if the user wants, they can re-download what they need.

no, Stock is ODEX'd. You would need to deodex it. This would allow you to make themes, and modify system files.

Voodoo lagfix kernel for I897UCKB1

Guys:
Don't follow any instruction to flash this kernel on your captivate running official froyo I897UCKB1. I tried all advices and ended up bricking my phone. Luckily the unbricking method you can find.in xda saved me. But, i had to flash.back to JF6 (2.1 eclair stock) using odin3 and then went back to kies mini to get the official froyo. I am writing this for people who like to use stock froyo instead of any.custom roms. I had to waste my time because.some.people suggested a few methods without knowing it for sure. Most suggestions are great in this forum (thats how i used serendipity.for a while). But, some or one of the bad suggestions can brick your phone real bad. So, ask as many questions as possible before going with a suggestion you see. Preferably look at how to videos. If there are none out there. Then, WAIT!

Then xda should remove the link for "how to unbrick" link. Brick is of two types. Soft and hard. What you mean is hard. What I meant b was soft. But, even soft.can cause serious issues. Post a video if you can. That will help a lot.

[Q] Can GingerBreak 1.2 ROOT galaxy s 4g?

I've been trying to root my Galaxy S 4g but failed every time... I went through all the appropriate threads evn the "Bible" but the oneclick rage against the cage will not work at all... Lost here...
Sorry, but you clearly didn't search enough. What you needed was on the first page of the development section.
Regardless, here's the stuff you need to root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194032
Select whichever kernel you prefer. KH2 is supposed to be the most stable. Flash that through CWM or Odin (CSC).
Also, check SamsungGalaxyS4GMods on YouTube if you need a visual guide.
I would imagine since he's trying to root, he's not already running gingerbread. I'm betting he's on KD1, in which case he needs this thread
If you're trying to modify a phone in from-tmobile condition (KD1), that's the guide you want to follow
Edit: Herp Derp.... Didn't see the part where he said SOC didn't work...

Yeah, it just means that Samsung didn't really change anything. So anybody who's already on leaked KJ6 don't need to reflash. Also whoever notices any speed increase with new KJ6, you have a perfect example of a placebo effect

Rooting Samsung Sgh-I896 on Rogers in canada

Hey everyone
I have been tiring to look up how to root my Samsung SGH-I896 that is on Rogers in Canada but have haven't been able to find and think that matches my phone info. I will list my firmware and other info if some can point me in the right way that would be nice.
Model = SGH-I896
Frimware = 2.3.3
Kernel version = 2..35.7-i896uxkh2-cl296008
Build number = GINGERBREAD.UXKH2
Thanks
I have the same phone and believe me it's not as easy as it is for the us users. Rogers actually takes code off the phone so that it's harder to root or unlock. I had to factory reset and use an at&t software instead of Rogers. After that everything was easy. Use one click root or anything like it

I dont recall having any issues with rooting my phone back in the day. I recall being able to use superoneclick to get the job done on stock gingerbread.
Although if you are planning on installing a rom on your phone then root isnt required. Just flash CWM and then flash a rom. The roms come with root already installed on it.
I have tried super oneclick and it hang up at step 7 but maybe iam doing something wrong. I will try again later tonight. Thanks alot guys

I used Superoneclick with both Froyo and Gingerbread stock Rogers versions and it rooted just fine. Just need to follow the instructions.
I think for Froyo you had to do some really stupid stuff, like plug it in and take it back out 2-3 times but other than that it always worked great.
Worked so well I even made a donation to the developer.
If it hangs on you, I would suggest reading the thread to see if somebody developed a method that works. My Froyo image wouldn't root so I read the Rogers captivate thread and somebody posted telling me how to unplug and plug it back in, worked well.
I think I might have screwed up... I installed the unzipped ROM onto my external SD rather than the zipped one... what do I do now???
