I know one of you masters out there surely have considered using an air card with the GTab. I have an ATT USB aircard and would dearly love to pop it in and have internet. I have a router that does it so I know there are simple drivers out there that maybe could be retasked.
The second, almost as important, would be using a USB WebCam. I've written several Apps that I use to collect inspection data for work and attaching a WebCam would allow simple picture import into those reports. Talk about a neat set up to use onsite at a customers location. It'd probably have to be set up as a replacement to the built in camera so apps sending a picture call would bring up the WebCam instead.
Its above me to provide these but I'm certain one of you code gods can wip it right out.
Thanks for all your hard work guys and gals. These tablets have some real potential and through your work its being brought to life.

I could really use an application that records voice calls and stores them on my memory card. I know that I am not the only one who wants this functionality badly.
Many in the Modaco community seem to think that this is impossible, but I think we should see it as more of a challenge! Because I am not able to contribute with my programming skills (hah!), I'd like to instead contribute with my wallet. Let's start a pot.. I'll start it off:
I am willing to give $25 to the first programmer who can design an app that can:
- Record phone calls (incoming and outgoing) on the MS-Smartphone 2003SE OS
- Store the recordings onto the phone memory card
- (Ideally) Compress the sound-files into a reasonable size
I know that $25 is not an earth shattering incentive, but it is a start. My hope is that other users who want to support this effort will add to the pool. Collectively we can raise the pot high enough to interest capable developers and get the result we want.
What are you willing to contribute?
CURRENT POT: $165.00 USD
*Terms:
I'll cap the offers to a year, meaning anything developed before 2/30/2006 is eligible. I have no problems splitting the pot if programmers want to work in cooperation with one another. Developers who aren't interested in profiting are more than welcome to donate the pot to a charity of their choice. Did I miss anything here?

That can easily be done already. During the phone call, simply tap the note icon between tools and the contacts icon.. This will start a note with the caller information and phone number filled in. Tap the cassette at the bottom of the screen between tools and the pen icon, then tap the red record button above. It will record the conversation as long as you do not leave that screen, you cannot switch to any other application, not even the phone or it will stop recording.
Sorry, I misread. I thought you meant Pocket PC OS. Nevemind.
Currently from our initial tests only video can be delivered to an external monitor through the hdmi port.
What would it mean to develop a rom or an application which will route all of it's screen experience to an external monitor?
If there is an existing ROM that can deliver these capabilites , we'd be happy to root the evo and use it.
We have some in-house android talent but we will be considering a bounty if high end development might be needed for customizing a rom or even guiding us by mail on how to tackle the challenge.
best regards
Lior
So far I have only seen one development team that has even hinted at the undertaking, and they are vague about how much effort they will put into it.
Cyanogen hinted early on that he was going to implement bluetooth profiles for HID support, which he did, but the mouse only works in portrait mode. When you switch to landscape, left and right becomes up and down, etc.
He also hinted that he would get HDMI working. Thus allowing you to project your phone UI onto a TV or DVI/HDMI monitor, and use a bluetooth mouse and keyboard to control it.
He also hasn't made any progress on getting 4G working with his ROM.
If he were to get all of that working, I would donate a whole paycheck! In the meantime, I would be glad to see some other developers jump in and try to implement it. Either in his ROM, or through their own methods.
Bounty's are usually kind of a joke and stir up unconstructive comments and feedback. I would like to start by finding a dev that thinks this is possible, and wants to try, then PM him/her about donations.
So I'm driving across the US for a move next month, and the idea crossed me to use my dash mounted Galaxy Nexus to kind of provide a live feed of our trip (so family and friends had a chance to join us via a website).
I found a app that did simply that, (IP Webcam), but I don't have a public IP on my phone (T-Mobile USA). EDIT: Called T-Mobile. No way for me to have a public IP through changing my APN or anything like that. So I'd have to push the video to another server.
I could capture video, optionally compress, and push it to a web server somewhere else in small chunks, that would host the website. This would allow a lot more functionality, as the web server would always be available (unlike a phone driving in the middle of nowhere), could also receive and host gps info, allow people to view any particular point in the video, etc, but It would require a lot more set up. I'd need to have my phone save the video in chunks, and try to send chunks whenever possible, and then set up the webserver to do whatever.
Just wondering if anyone can think of other cool ideas or knows of existing software that would help with this project..
Thanks in advance!
Hi all,
I'm looking for some supplemental income, and I am putting together a business plan to get funding with some dev friends to build a few apps. Starting slowly. I'm a finance guy, but I do write SQL and VBA. I'd probably be more the idea guy and marketing person if this works. What I'm looking for are some really good guides to get started. I believe I will need a client sharable cheap backend database to store information, I already have a huge NAS cloud drive to store and use to access data. I'm curious what are the best DB's out there for this kind of thing. I am a pro user at Access, but that's not so good for this, I hear. Are there some good guides? Anyone know about Kivney.com or something? Or a good book to get started? My friends are all pro devs, but to get them on board, I am going to have to kick this off.
I need a DB to store data for users, a GUI, and let the users change their range of infos on the fly with a front end computer app.. then have the data wireless transfered to some sort of client reciever.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
Josh
All, please forgive me if this has been discussed in other threads in the forum. I have searched and did not find any threads that really related to it.
As we all know our android devices have become quite powerful little computers, often incorporating features our computers don't even have without additional internal or external hardware, and are far more portable.
My own personal phone is an old VZ Galaxy S5. I have chosen and will continue to use VZ simply because I find they have the best service area for me. I love to go on road trips, via auto and motorcycle, I go out camping and dirt bike riding in some pretty remote areas and tbh I have been amazed at some of the places I still have service, long after family and friends have lost service on other carriers. For several years I kept and maintained an old Nokia TDMA AT&T Wireless phone simply because they still had "analog/digital" service in some pretty remote areas, and in the case of an emergency I find it beneficial to be able to make a call or send a text message in the event someone needs to be airlifted out. But I digress ..
I am not an experienced developer, and I have no experience rooting however I am interested in and believe I can learn a lot in this area. I am fed up and disgusted with bloatware, apps that after being disabled or force shutdown restart upon power cycling the phone, etc and I am watching closely to determine my next daily user phone based on Stock Android OS, hardware specs, and the users ability to determine which apps they actually want.
However, this thread is actually in regards to something completely different from that altogether.
I am in the market for an action camera, almost all of them have WiFi connectivity to control them. I have also started using GPS Apps for chart plotting and track recording using Enhanced Geo Referenced PDF Maps to track my rides the trails I am on (many of which are not mapped by DNR or US Forrest Service). I love to listen to music etc and often use Blue Tooth to stream audio from my SD Card, and as we know the internal cameras on these devices continue to improve and take some incredible pictures, almost to the point that there is not a lot of need to carry a higher end camera anywhere. None of these functions require a carrier. I can use any IOS or Andriod Device to load these apps on and use it to control my GoPro, as a GPS Enable Map/Chart Plotter, a Media Player, a Point and Shoot Camera, but in using it as such there is no need for all of the other "stuff" loaded on it by the manufacturer and carrier for voice service, for bs marketing, for ... I can install a handlebar mount on my dirt bike to hold the device and even install a power cable to maintain a constant charge so power/battery life isn't exactly a problem.
I currently have my VZ S5 which will probably be retired in the coming months, a Galaxy Tab S 10.5 Wifi Only (SM-T800), a Galaxy Note 2 VZ (retired a few years back but still functional), and my wife has a Tab 4 8.0 Wifi Only. The Tab S 10.5 is probably overkill and I think would prove to be challenging to manage mounted on the handlebars of a dirt bike. The Note 2 I think is probably just a little outdated. I am considering picking up a new tablet for my wife and re-purposing her tab 4 for this but I wanted to reach out to a community of experienced users to see if any of you have recommendations on an Android Device that would fit this purpose, something I can have control over exactly what is loaded on it, trim all the fat, and load up exactly what I want. Something that will be reasonable fast/responsive, and has an SD Card slot so I can store maps, pics, media, etc externally. If this requires rooting and loading a custom ROM to achieve, then I get to learn some new skills.
Open to listening to and considering all suggestions. Please provide supporting info for your recommendations ie specs, efficiency, simplicity, etc
Thanks,
Joey
