[Q] Backup photos - Android Apps and Games

Hi,
I'm looking for an application that'll backup my photos. Unfortunatly there is no stable program that'll sync my DCIM folder to Dropbox or something similar. I'm aware that Wavesecure has a backup media option, but they don't offer batch restore or download and the backup job has to be started by hand.
Note for the wise guys: I'm looking for something automated, plugging in my phone to the computer and copying the folder isn't automated.
Thank you
Jorijn

Picassa no good?

Does your phone have a memory card and change the settings to change the saved folder to memory card.

Lookout Premium does that (backups photos online for $2.99/month or $29.99/year). Also does remotely locate, wipe or lock your phone. I'm very happy with it.

Thank you. Last time I did some research lookout didn't yet offer this feature.
Got myself some Lookout Premium

Simple Sync Folder between PC and Android with WIFI?

I want to sync a folder from my PC with a folder on my SDcard...
It should automaticaly Sync over wifi in both ways... any Idea?
Dropbox works awesome, maybe not exactly the way you want it but it does the trick.

No it doesn´t because at first the Dropbox doesn´t copys the Files automaticaly on my SD and second I have at least 13 gigabytes of Music and only 8gb Dropbox space...
Maybe Doubletwist AirSync?
That one is more specific with working with Music/Photo/Video, if you're looking for something a little more generic for syncing, there's also a portable app called Toucan
Good luck.
The problem with Double Twist is that it doesn´t hold my folders as they are...
And the problem with Toucan... I can´t access my SD with that over Wifi... any idea for that?
Try "WebSharing", there is a lite and a paid version. The second one includes some extra options for videos and music I think, not sure on which are the differences, anyway, it works great for me!
You can simply share a folder on your PC and using a file explorer on your phone (I have tried this using Estrong file explorer) you can search the LAN for shared drives. Find the folder you have shared on your PC and access files from your phone.
Well, another method - this is the way I do it, but it requires root access on your phone.
If you have root access, then you can install an app "Samba filesharing". And, this enables to make the phone a samba server.
Then, you can simply connect to ip address of your phone (or the samba server name you specified) from your PC and seamlessly access/modify/delete files on the sd card all the time. I would even suggest mapping a network drive to make it even more convenient.
I would be also interested in a solution like that. Mainly for Music, but also for other stuff/files.
Here is what I tried out so far:
I looked into Double Twist (a cumbersome resource hog on my netbook and always crashing), Winamp Sync (playlist and not folder-based, lack of control on what is happening) and Wifi Music Sync (lots of bad reviews, people lost files and else).
Has anyone tried Sugar Sync? If I read their website right, it syncs first to their cloud, which is the last place, where I want my personal files.
The solution with Samba Server or ES Explorer works (I also tried a simple FTP setup with Filezilla on the Desktop and AndFTP or SwiFTP (FTP server on phone) and any FTP client on the desktop. Problem with those solutions, it's all manual.
So far nothing satisfactory. I'm with the OP on this one, a small, neat, small resource solution, where you simply define the folders to be synced, would be best. Any more ideas? Thanks so far!
Just my 2 cents (definitely an UGLY solution): I've been using Syncness to sync over wifi. It's not the worst solution and has the benefit of working both with locally shared network drives as well as dropbox.

Actually, i love syncness. I've been using it for a month now. It's not perfect, but it works well for me, like syncing my documents folder to my Milestone and DHD, and back.
Titanium Media Sync can do this - syncs all types of files (not just media) - search on market (I can't post a link)
mmm I go for Sugarsync....
I'm using PCFileSync and have no problems. It's always being updated.
I have Titanium Media Sync, and it works very well for syncing files to dropbox, but I would really like to set it up to work with ftp, so I could sync files straight to my computer. How do I set something like this up? I"m a super ftp noob

I believe what you are looking for is possibly The Missing Sync.
http://www.markspace.com/products/android/missing-sync-android.html
However, I have asked the developer questions and received no answers. There is a trial version available but i'm having issues which need answered by the developer. The software is not cheap at $35.00 single machine license.
If you decide to try it, let me know how it goes for you.
Here's my scenario:
2 computers, htc evo 3d (now trying on a galaxy tab).
Desktop and laptop sync the "My pictures" folder (1gb and growing) by using microsoft live mesh. And then, I have The Missing Sync reading the "My pictures" folder and syncing that folder to the Galaxy Tab SD card into a folder called "My Pictures".
Questions I have asked the developer (Ticket# 813081)
(1) Hi, Is there a file count limitations? I plan to use this to sync my pictures folder which has a couple thousand items (1,533 Files, 41 Folders, 1.48gb of data ) as of this moment and growing. This will be to a 32 GB microsdhc card in my evo 3d. Would there be any possible problems I should know about?
(2) Are there any file size limitations? (im aware of fat32 4gb single file size limit of the storage device) But does The missing sync have a file size limit of its own?
(3a) Does The Missing Sync Hash files for sync? If so, does it store temp files?
(3b) How does missing sync determine what needs synced around?
(4) I plan on adding a Samsung galaxy tab ... I'd also like to sync my pictures to it as well as the evo. 1 computer, two mobile devices. Is this possible with single license or will i need a multi license?
That's all for now. Thank you.

the issues i am having are that the whole process takes about 7 minutes from the moment sync is pressed, to any activity is noticed. And then, files start flowing, but 15 minutes later, it stops at random with very vague error log.
maybe you can try FolderSync

+1 for FolderSync. It lets you sync individual folders with Dropbox, with a Windows share, etc.
this is so simple
This is so simple why is there no app that does this, we don't want cloud storage to interfere all we need is a PC/Mac app where you can see your folders/files . Then you want to be able to select folders and files using a checky box ready to sync to ur android device.
Why do you need to select files/folders? Because when you have an mp3 collection of over 40gb you only want a small portion of this on ur android device. The app needs to ensure that ur android device always keeps in sync with the selected PC files so that if you ever add music to ur PC it will get added to android through the sync app.
Now does this app exist or am I going to have to learn to write an android app??

Look into cheetah sync app. Its the closest thing i could find that works for me.
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=cheetah+sync
Its been working beautifully for me granted its not fully automatic and requires some configuring before it can do what you want it to do.
Good but its not quite right

No this is still not right, cheetah sync is just a small service that sits on your pc. you can't use it to select the files on your pc you want on your phone, everything has to be done with folder pairing on the phone. Now if I want to choose 10 albums that are in random locations on my hard drive that would take ages to do on my phone. On the PC this would be a simple task.(If the app exists!!!)

[Q] Backup Savegames

Hello Community,
is there any possibility (interop-unlocked) Omnia 7 to backup the savegames, exspecially from Xbox Live games before resetting the phone?
Thank you for answers,
Malte
Windows Phone Device Manager v1.7.0.0 can backup and restore apps and games settings and data... unfortunately with public v1.8.0.0 backup not work...
also you can copy files for every game from IsolatedStore to PC with Windows Phone Power Tools or any other tool which have access to IsolatedStore
Like dxdy said, the Windows Phone Power Tools will let you do this. I was going to post a link but it seems that I can't, so it's at wptools.codeplexDOTCOM. Use the Isolated Storage Browser to copy save data from the old phone and to the new one.
thank you for your answers...
Fortunately I am Beta Tester of Windows phone device Manager. I think i will try that method First, otherwise i will copy the savegames from isolated storage.
Malte1234511
PS: the spelling mistakes come from my German Keyboard Layout
you can't copy xboxlive games isostore, wpdm or wptools won't help you...only for sideloaded apps/games.
I installed WPDM and just had to notice, that there is a backup funkction, but it doesnt semm to work. I also noticed that I havent access to isolated storage with WPDM'S file explorer. I will no figure out the other program, hopefully it works. Anyway ist would be logically if yor're right and it isnt possible. I heard about a function that will be added to Xbox live hub from Microsoft. Maybe that will help me backup the dataa from my applications.
Thank you
With Wp Power Tools I was able
to solve my problem and copy the
savegames from the phone (but nox xbox live...),
cause as NebZoNe mentioned there is no way
to copy from the isolated storage of xbox live
games...
So, thanks anyway,
Malte1234511
Ok, after research i found out
there is a way (even Xbox Live), but I'm
not sure if I can post it here in XDA...

Just wondering if you could help me out as i have the same problem. I have sent you a PM
On a Samsung phone, you can use WP7 Root Tools to copy files from your games' IsolatedStore folders to another location (such as the IsolatedStore of the webserver app, very handy for this) from which you can get them off the phone.
I actually wrote a backup app for HTC phones, but by the time I got it working pretty well, nobody could run it anymore (needed old firmware). Sigh...

thanks for the reply but where would i find the IsolatedStore folders? The game i want to backup is Plants Vs Zombie
The phone creates an IsolatedStore folder for each app as you isntall the app. They are created in \Applications\Data\<GUID>\Data\IsolatedStore. You need to know the GUID of the app you're installing. I don't know what it is for PvZ off the top of my head, though if you download the XAP from the marketplace, open it up (it's a renamed ZIP file), and look at the WMAppManifest.xml file inside, you'll see an ID GUID. That's the one that you need to know.
winco's wAppStore shows apps GUID in a very simple way, even non free apps (E.Reid's marketplace too but need a little hack for non free apps)
Sent from my HD7 T9292 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
If someone creates XML file with most popular game names and GUIDs, I can write a simple backup/restore desktop app, helper to ISETool.exe
Suggested XML format:
Code:
<apps>
<app GUID=8eda0151-67e7-df11-a844-00237de2db9e>Birdy Bounce</app>
<app GUID=78681258-ec97-e011-986b-78e7d1fa76f8>Penguin</app>
...
and so on
...
</apps>

[Q]Phone not responding CD1004

When I'm transferring media files over to my phone it has around 2gbs of space left. However when i transfer anymore media files it gives me an error:
PHONE ISN'T RESPONDING
Your device isn't responding. Please disconnect it,rstart it, then try again.
To see if theres's more information about this error, click Web Help.
Error Code
C00D124D
The only fix for this is to delete some videos in order to sync more which is a b****h seeing how i have 2gb space left. Has anyone also encountered this problem? is there a fix for it?
Bumpppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp
I haven't seen any other reports of that error.
Did you try clicking Web Help?
Did you try searching for that error code and/or error message?
If that doesn't work, you might need to hard-reset the phone. It sucks, but if something is messed up, that's the easiest way to recover.
The thing is i have games which i want to keep the saved games, and its annoying reinstalling everything.
Is it possible to back it up and hard reset it and afterwards use the backup?
Is that possible? Yes, sure (assuming the phone can be backed up, and your weird error doesn't et in the way).
Will it fix anything? Probably not. If you restore a backup after hard-resetting the phone, it's like you never did the hard reset. That's not going to help if there's a problem to fix!
Is there are way just to backup apps and contacts etc?(I know sms can be backed up)
Contacts should already be stored on your WLID, Google, Hotmail, Exchange, Facebook, etc. accounts ("cloud" services). The phone doesn't actually store them locally, except for a cached copy in case it doesn't have data connectivity at some point.
Your list of purchased apps is already known. You can use the Marketplace website to see your purchased apps and re-install them, free. However, the data for those apps will be gone forever unless you manually back up it. This process is not particularly simple using the software available for Samsung, but it can be done. You need to copy the contents of the IsolatedStore directory for each app that you want to back up to a PC. The IsoStore folder is located at \Applications\Data\<GUID_FOR_THE_APP>\Data\IsolatedStore. There will also be an IsolatedStorageSettings file that should be backed up.
You can use WP7 Root Tools to copy your isostore files to a location that they can be removed from the phone, for example by putting them in the WP7 Root Tools IsoStore folder and then using an Isolated Storage Explorer tool (there are several) or by putting them in the Mango Webserver app's IsoStore and using the Webserver (on the phone) and web browser (on the PC) to download the files. As I said, though, the tools for doing this on Samsung aren't great; WP7 Root Tools isn't designed as a backup app and it is tedious to copy multiple files\folders.

[Q] Application to periodically backup a directory to a cloud service?

Evening fellow individuals reading this. I am wondering if something along these lines exist for android. I'm aware of ES file explorer (as everyone else is). It's a beautiful piece of software with amazing functionality the way it integrates my dropbox, box, google drive and my skydrive together well but one thing I would kill for is the ability to have a directory from my internal or external memory periodically copied and replaced to any other directory in a cloud I choose. I don't believe you can do this in that app and I looked a bit. I didn't imagine you would really need root for something like this. Any ideas? Thanks immensely in advance.
A quick search of the Play store brought me to an app called Backup your folders
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fiistudio.fiibackup
From the description I think this might be what you're after.
I also remember the developers behind Titanium backup coming up with an app that did cloud backups. According to the Play store, that would be Titanium Media Sync
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keramidas.MediaSync
That one's a paying app.
Hope these help

Hello everyone,
Sorry for the wall of text, long time lurker, first time posting at XDA here, hope to find a solution after days of trying on my own... I am HEARTBROKEN by vscocam on Android... :crying:
I've been using VSCOCam for 80% of my photos on my Nexus5 for the last year and half, I've taken thousands of photos and I want to back them up. The app works as follows:
Take photo using app > photo stored in internal app library > edit photo > export to android photo library (VSCOcam folder)
The VSCOCam folder is located inside /sdcard/DCIM/, but it only stores the exported/edited photos that you chose to export from the app. I cannot for the life of me find the "internal library" folder for the photos, I looked and looked and had no luck finding where the photos or any hints of the app dir itself... only the exported photos. When I looked around online apparently the iOS version has a backup feature for the internal app library when connected to iTunes, Android version ONLY has the "export" button within the app to act as a backup feature. Well that's not going to work because:
1. No select all (ctrl/cmd + A)function. I will not spend hours check marking and scrolling through thousands of thumbnails individually... makes me shudder thinking about it.
2. I will essentially be saving my photos twice or more on the phone, VSCOcam doesn't overwrite existing or even ask, it creates duplicates next to eachother.
3. Exported photos from the app loses all metadata... this one I could afford to lose but it'd be nice to have a date it was taken and not date it was exported.
In my desperation I even chatted with the costumer service staff of the company, no luck, no solution. Only export button. Apparently my cases is very isolated as I can't find anyone with the same problem as I do.... maybe I'm not that bright. :silly:
Even with my limited IT skills, I firmly believe There has to be a folder that stores all the jpg as they're taken by the camera. Instagram does it and so does almost every photo apps out there. I just need to locate that dir... Am I looking in the wrong places? Do I need to root? Please give me some advice on this!!
TL;DR - VSCOCam app is holding thousands of my photos, I can't find the directory that they're stored in. VSCO is telling me "there is no internal app folder." and tell me to spend hours exporting each one manually. I don't want to hate VSCOCam, it rocks, but this is breaking my heart!!!

I'm rooted on android 5.1 and in ES File Explorer, cannot see com.vsco.cam in /data/data
I've searched for vsco, case insensitive, in root /
And only found the export directory!
Have they changed their storage? In effect, I can't even find the app!!
Bump!
I'm having the same problem. I really need to free up some space on my device, so I want to pull all my photos but I can't find them anywhere. LG Optimus 4X HD (P-880) with root access. I've checked the locations mentioned above, but with no luck. Any help would be awesome!
Up! I have the same problem than Falcon. I want to free some space but can't find the photos anywhere!
Bumping because I'd also like to extract photos that I've taken with VSCO. Although my problem is a little different, VSCO just crashes every time I try to open it and it only started happening the day after I started taking photos with it. The customer service couldn't help much except tell me that CM is an unofficial Android release and their app isn't optimized for it

Has anybody found a descent solution for this problem?
Vsco is a great for the filters but the android-app is horrible. Why can't we just export the original photo's or at least locate them on our device.
