[Q] Android and DUN / Tether to Blackberry - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Problem: Have a Samsung Galaxy Tab, and a Blackberry Bold 9700. I want to use the 9700's 3g Internet on the Tab.
I have been experimenting with this app on the Android side:
android.gval.biz Bluetooth Dial up Network
This App so far has not let me connect to the Bold. I am wondering if anyone can recommend an alternate app that will work on the Tab. This program is about the closest I've seen to a solution, allowing me to modify the connection script to account for my carrier's APN settings. For whatever reason, it seems like the software can't even utilize the BT hardware on the Tab itself.
I am currently looking for Blue Soleil for Android. This also looks like a promising App.
The concept should follow how I tether to the 9700 using BT DUN on my laptop. Wouldn't something like this be relatively easy to do on Android?
I would really appreciate any input or thoughts on the subject.

I too have been trying to do the same thing. Surely there is a way / app that will allow tethering. Anyone found a way?

Missing feature: Add Nic to Android

Can't believe it.. It really seems not possible to share my PC Internet connection to my Android phone (HTC Desire), because Android OS simply forgot the option to add a new connection..
It is NOT thetering 3G internet to my desktop, but the other way around..
Sooo easy on a Windows Mobile, Simply possible on Symbian with gnubox. Why suck up my 3G data plan if I have a perfect Internet connection just in front of me most of the time. Of course, at work for example there is no WiFi available.
Bluetooth PAN would be great, it is available on almost every laptop. Wifi Ad-Hoc is also an option, but is not detected by Android. Why? Is Android sponsored by Telco Companies or something?
Searched for a while and found a discussion where someone says: "Yes, if you root your phone, and you are happy to mess around editing the wireless config files to add an ad-hoc wireless connection.
But why is'nt there a simple app to do this?

Tether blackberries?

Anyone have any ideas on if tethering a blackberry would work? I have a Verizon BB Bold 9870 with full data and tethering and would love to tether in (would it require a custom rom?)
Ideas?
Thanks
AFAIK, Blackberry tethering is done via bluetooth DUN only, not wifi.
So far, no one other than Archos seems to have written bluetooth DUN client software for Android.
My phone has unlimited bluetooth DUN, so I'm buying an Archos.
My wife's phone has unlimited hotspot, so she's happy with the G tab.
Moved to general
Thank you for moving and call me crazy but the app PDANET enables bluetooth DUN.
You're crazy At least I couldn't get pdaNET to play nicely with my BB. I actually got them to connect but I couldn't get the GTab to use the BB as a modem. I think the issue is that the pdaNET software is used to enable the android based phone as a modem as well as enable the BB as a modem but what is missing is software for the tablet or settings to tell it to use the signal as a network connection (to do dial up networking as it were).
If you have a step by step tutorial that explains how the pdaNET works on the GTab and connects to the BB's network then please post it. I am sure there are many folks who would like to know exactly how to get this to work.
Otherwise you are crazy (said with affection 'cause I am driving myself crazy trying to figure out how to do this).

[Q] Bluetooth DUN CLIENT?

Hello,
I have a nook color and a "dumbphone" (samsung s5600) which has 3G and bluetooth, but no wifi. On my ipod touch, i use an app called iBluever to share my phone's 3g connection over bleutooth to my ipod touch.
I've searched and searched, but couldn't find an android app to do that. There is one PDAnet, but your phone has to be an android phone too, in order to work because you can't enter APN info in the client app.
Does someone know an app to let me share my dumbphone's 3G connection over bluetooth to my android tablet?

Not sure if your phone can create the PAN socket needed, but if so...
I think my phone supports PAN, so this should be perfect!
But i can't download it from the market. It gives me a download error every time it try. Can someone provide a link to an apk?
Solved the problem and installed the app.
But how do you setup a PAN network? Is there a J2ME app for thatN

[Q] Bluetooth Dial-up Networking Profile (DUN)

Hi everyone,
Is it possible to enable Bluetooth DUN Profile support in the Transformer so that I can use my 3G cellphone (Symbian S60v3) as a Bluetooth dial-up modem?
Thanks!
No, it is not possible and will likely never be possible unless someone modifies the android code. I've been studying the problem for a while but can't seem to make any headway.

This stuff i now working perfecly in any linux system!
What would they need? Port ppp and some code from network-manager? Probably the mobile phone providers database also.
Does anyone know what is the reason why this is not implemented?
I have an HTC Desire HD (DHD), I was hoping to use the BT DUN or PAN from the TF to the DHD when I was out an about, seems this wont work.
Then I thought, OK, if I connect the TF to the DHD with USB, I can use tethering, that does not seem to work either.
Any thoughts?
You MAY be able to get BT-tether to work between your tablet and your cellphone if you install pdaNET on both, and your cellphone supports BT-DUN. I believe stock Android kernel doesn't support BT-DUN, but if it's rooted and the custom ROM supports it you're in business.
For me I go with wifi-tether ... it's much faster.
USB-tether would make sense, cos you can charge your phone at the same time (with your dock, I suppose). Problem is there's no phone driver for the Android tablet and I don't think there will ever be.
So, in short, if you have a Symbian phone there's no way to have Internet access in the TF101 through the phone.
This is not good news...
[Q] Bluetooth Dial-up Networking Profile (DUN) in 3G firmware?
Does anyone know if the 3G firmware version supports Dialup Networking through Bluetooth?
The complexity of supporting DUN should not be much bigger than supporting GSM SIM cards, right?
There is no joy for us blackberry users either.
I think that dual-booting a standard Linux distribution is probably the way to go...
According to lilstevie Network Manager is starting to work.
Then it's just plug and play, hopefully
Hi I am not expert so please forgive me if i am answer wrongly .
I manage to use bluetooth internet sharing to my TF but I am using Iphone 3gs and use Internet Tethering option.
Is that what you want ? I never tested using nokia phone.
As far as I know, tethering requires the mobile phone to act as a wireless access point.
Symbian does not support this natively.
I did find an application that would implement it, but it was purchasable only.
And I'm trying to find a free solution.
I managed to get this working in CyanogenMod 7.1... in theory it should work on any Android 2.3.7 based OS.
I'm going to write a howto geared for the end-user later tonight, but for now my notes are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1352936

Bluetooth tether to blackberry.

I have run into a new and annoying problem. I have two phones. The first is a stock drod x2 the other a blackberry bold.
My work requires I carry the blackberry and they pay for tethering for my phone. I want to use bluetooth tethering to use my blackberries data on my p6210.
I setup the bluetooth and paired the blackberry to the p6210. When I do this the icon shows the wrench icon, when I open this no profiles are listed.
I verified all the profiles are checked and enabled on the blackberry.
So I grabbed my dx2 and paired the two, now when I open the wrench on the dx2 it shows "Internet Access" now I don't pay for tethering on my personal phone so I did not connect.
Anyone know why there isn't a DUN profile showing up on my p6210 even though it's enabled on the blackberry.

It's not available with the stock firmware. I don't know currently if it can be made available with kernel, firmware or application changes (but if you read the ad-hoc thread, I think I remember something about BT tethering being mentioned.)
Gary
Hmmmm, that does not make sense. I don't not want use wifi to tether. The wifi was actually shut off while testing. Just the bluetooth. Like I was saying the dx2 was able to work right and the dun profile was working properly.
This sort of limited functionality is stunning. Android should be the open connected platform but we have device missing simple options that even palm and old windows mobile 5 had.
We are missing both directions of Bluetooth and usb networking plus adhoc wireless. This is truly sad.

Oh, I misunderstood... You want to use your BB DUN from your tablet via BT? I'm not even sure if I have anything with a DUN profile to test with...

GT7p6210 support Bluetooth tethering, but only to several type of Android phones, not to others. That's why you did not see the DUN profile on the p6210for the blackberry. It does not work on the WM phone either.
GT7p6210 is my first Andoid device, so disspointed.
Is there a file we can change to help the p6210 recognize more bluetooth tether devices Profiles?
