thank you, i will give it a shot

A little tip for you if I may.
Your best bet for quality and file size is to convert your vids to .mp4 format and keep the bitrate around 1500kbps.
AVI files tend to be a little bit taxing on even an overclocked android device. So as far as performance goes, you are better off trying the .mp4 format.
Hope this helps you out...

stupid question
Could the reason its not working, because of the DRM? if it is i dont get it then cause its a digital copy to be used on a portable device. grrr

Most "digital copy" versions are loaded with drm. Which would explain the scrambled feed...
I would say get a good decrypting app and learn how to rip/encode your dvds like I do. Lol

Try "yxflash" from the market. It claims to be able to play WMV, DivX & Xvid... Haven't tried it myself though.
It's a $19.99 app that has to be purchased outside the market though... I don't like the way they're trying to conduct business.
Try meridian from the market. Haven't tested xvid yet but seems to play things otherwise built in on my mytouch couldn't haven't gotten that far.

Yea. They're kinda shady since they call it free then charge you to use it.
I'm guessing, if it does actually work, he doesn't want some rooted dirtbag downloading and refunding to add to the plethora of pirated apps. I haven't seen the app yet, but I figure if allows google checkout, it should be as safe as any other purchase via google checkout.
isn't there a samsung android phone with divx support builtin? I'm pretty sure I read that some where. Wonder if someone is working on some sort of port...
there are two android phones which play divx/xvid out of the box. one from samsung and the other from lg. getting the drivers/media player ported from either of these phones would be a big plus from me. i know i could convert media before hand, however i use my memory card as a "memory stick" which i bring in to work to watch on the PC during lunch. being able to play the same files on the phone when i'm on the bus/train would be so much easier.
try doubletwist if you're on Windows/Mac... no linux version yet
it will convert them to play on android by just dragging them over to the device...
I can confirm that yxflash works on my G1. I just download a divx movie (about 700 mb) and play it. Unfortunately the frame rate is about 15 f/s. Hope on Nexus One it will be much better.

btw, they still have xmas, you can get 50% off while using coupon code "xmas".
Still too expensive for my opinion, but hey, they come from the apple universum where all have too much money.
Now this post isnt going to be of much use because i couldnt find all the links i was after..... however
There were people requesting the samsung xvid/divx player be ported out back on the G1. Seems that one of XDA's members lbcoder has some decent incite on it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=566591&highlight=divx
He posted
divx is just an implementation of iso mpeg4.
So...
to make it play you need to;
1) ensure that bitrate and resolution are low enough to be properly handled,
2) package it in a compatible container (mp4 works)
3) ensure that the AUDIO is encoded in a compatible manner (vorbis is great, but others also work, mp3, aac, etc.)
4) ensure that there is no crap in the file showing that it is divx because it simply doesn't know what divx *IS* -- make it read as mpeg4 -- this does NOT require reencoding the file, just using a SANE header.

I thought $10 wasn't bad. It plays awesome on the N1. It takes me 10 minuted to download a Divx movie, but 30 mins to convert. Over the course of several months, I would save a ton of time converting movies. I can download directly to the SD card via browser and play with yxflash.
Yes, having to purchase outside the market is shady, but I have contacted them several times with issues and they resolved them within one day.
Found the app via market at first glance i thought nah **** it because of the bad rating.. at second glance i actually took the time to read the comments, turns out most of the comments where bad/laggy playback, witch was partly due to Magic / Heros hardware, and the resizing requirements..
ive installed the trial, and it plays beautifully.. although sometimes i do get some lines across the screen, but they are hard to notice...
Price is still a bit high thou! :/ im gonna give it a month or two to see if a cheaper alternative shows up, and hopefully by that time Google will have opened up the market in Denmark.
used yxflash to play an hd copy of ice age 3 in xvid, ran nearly perfect, every so often there is some frame skip

Any confirmation to any working divx, flv, mkv rm player?

Hi
I would like to know for your xperia x10, which android apps works and which doesn't?
I have only tried the xyflash trial, and it did not play divx nor h294 in mkv.
I don't want to convert every movie (as it take times). Hopefully something work on xperia will come soon. (i want confirmation before i buy the apps too).
try using blapk market (probably find it on the web only) the developer created it so people could try full version of certain apps without having the feeling of being robbed! but if it does what it claims it should, then out of respect, you should buy the full version from the developers!
ive tried a yxflash version from that market.. not sure if theres a more recent update to it now but it worked ok.. i gues! not sure if it'll be the same for everyone but from what ive tested, avi and divx files worked which is cool but unfortunately i noticed that around 10 minz (im guesin here) the video would freeze (just the clip not the app), yet the audio would continue as normal.
hope any of this helps!!
Well I can confirm that the latest available update for this program has fixed the issue of video freezing! Divx worked well and as 4 avi you can see it reacting slightly slow but some people may be able to live with it for time being until an update can address the issue.
Use YXflash. it work g8t.
I use yxflash, its not bad, i wish i could get the full version free though.
Yxflash still very slow on divx.
I tried many apps so far, i still have yet see a functional H.264 mkv one.
at the back of the phone it said quicktime enable, isn't h.264 apple's ? and mediascape as usual, useless.
Yxflash played divx quite smooth 4 me

Once you put repos you go to main screen then menu and hit update..
If that doesn't work you can visit the site at www.blackdroid.net, there forum is useful an all..

try to use Wuzhenhua Player v4.1, it has support for a wide range of audio and video formats incl flv & rm. it's in Chinese but few buttons are easy to understand
http://mobiputing.com/tag/wuzhenhua-player/
within link above there is a ref to a thread in xda, post 76 you'll find english ver
I checked it out since i am chinese myself, i even got the chinese market place apps. I can't find anything better. yxflash doesn't seem to work for some divx (anime one) and more anime fansub are in MKV/H264 these days.
Wuzhen does play some divx yxflash doesn't play and vice versa. I guess i will just read manga on the subway.
I use RockPlayer, which works a treat... I don't have a heap of movies, so I don't know exactly what it plays, but it sure plays more than the inbuilt media players... and it does it better - no lags, etc...
RockPlayer, search no further, app is amazing, YX Player is a joke compared to this one.
it doesn't seem to work as well as it thought to be, it does move and all but i see big lags.
I think it have to do with the size of the anime i am trying to watch.

Couldn't have said it better myself!! lol
whatz the size of this file? and are you talkin bout these issues on rockplayer, not yxflash?
Cause I have rockplayer and i've used a 1Gb file and framerate was running near 25 frames/sec and had no lag whatsoever!
There's someone who's played a movie (1080i) at 30f/sec without lag..
Maybe something on ya phone is blocking its true potential?

Another vote for Rock player.
I seem to have problems with Rock Player if I use my MW600.. But only when I'm playing divx/xvid.
I hear a crackling sound. If I turn off my headset, the problem is gone.
Am I the only one with this problem? Should I start using Wuzhenhua ?
I use Rockplayer, it is by far the best one out there, no lag on my XviD collection

Best video conversion tool to put movies on phone

I was wondering what everyone is using to convert movies to play on your captivate. I tried handbrake with no success. (probably just don't how to use it). Any help would be appreciated.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Why, pray tell, do you even need to convert videos? Just throw them on this puppy. That is one of the major selling points of this phone.
You are probably right. You are using Handbrake wrong. It works great. Just look over the web to find some walk throughs. Make sure you use VLC with Handbrake. You can also use DVD Fab decrytor Use it for the trial but You can always rip your dvd's for free.
I am trying to get movies off dvds. I also have some movies I ripped from dvdfab in my computer that are in the weird dvdfab format
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I also had no luck with handbrake so I started using mediacoder. Only thing I really do is scale the movie down to the phone screen size to reduce the file size by a bit. So far it's been really easy to use and all the movies work great.
If I'm going to watch the movie on a bigger screen then I'll copy it over as-is.

I use ripbot264. Works perfect so far and its also easy to use.
I used Handbrake recently to load two movies on my Captivate (Big Lebowski & Trading Places) , I put in the DVD in my iMac and it took about 40 minutes per video to convert the file and then I moved it onto my SD card. I used store purchased DVD's and everything went perfect. Do a Google search for "How to rip DVD on Mac and convert video for Mac using Handbrake"
Does anyone one know how to convert from a movie file already saved, i cant get the sound working properly, picture is magnificent. when i convert the sound is garbled, when i put the source 720p video on it has no sound. anyone else having this problem?
I like divx converter, works well and is free
search youtube for winx dvd ripper platinum & serial
I use EncodeHD and choose the Nexus One profile for the few files which actually need conversion.
http://dcunningham.net/media-tools/encodehd/
For ripping I use DVD decrypter... For encoding DiVX encoder or Media Coder.
Though I have never had to "convert" any video for use on the Captivate. The video's that I have on my server run just as well on my Captivate as they do my 42in LCD.
Just drag and drop and watch.

This. You can slap a 2GB file on your phone and it will play, but that's taking up valuable memory. It would still look just as good if you shrunk it down to a workable 800mb.
I tried using Handbrake and ran into audio issues where the audio was severely slowed down. I switched to DVD Fab and had success. I have used mkv format successfully.
I too use DVDFab - the quickest way is to just tell it covert for iPhone and bam it is done and works every time. There are ways to optimize it, I am still looking for the best settings.

Cool features that actually work

Thought I'd make a thread for things that do work well on the Sensation and may make people stick to this phone until the other issues are resolved.
DLNA function: I spent a few hours putting my Samsung TV on my network and I can send video, pics and music direct from my phone to my TV via Wifi from anywhere in the house and its very very good. I have a film in AVI and it steamed perfectly.
Forward SMS to email: I think this is in 2.3.3 anyway but useful when phone it unusable like at some work places.
Built in streaming: I can scan music, videos and pics from a file server and play them on the phone directly with no additional software.
Lexar 32 gig MicroSD Class 10: Definitly works fine in this phone. Check Amazon
Built in slideshow as wallpaper: I like having different background images randomly and this is good for that. Point it at a folder full of images (I have a folder full of downloaded landscapes, sea, etc., type images specifcally for this. It replaces the need for things like Wallpaper Rotator. Only snag is that it changes the images every 30 seconds or so so it maybe CPU intensive (doesn't seem to be though). I'd rather it was hourly but can't see anywhere to change it.
Please add others as you find them.
Lockscreen icons and lockscreen animations: I like having weather animations or my photos spinning around under the lock screen, looks cool. Also being able to change the lock screen icons does make that feature quite handy

Make sure you have Wi-Fi turned on
(Also ensure Media Centre on your PC is set to share music, videos etc)
Go to Gallery
At the top where it says ALBUMS, click and select Media Servers
Select your PC
Mine says Media PC: Media
then it will find the catagories of the files it can find, you just chose what you wish to play
It really is that simple!!

If your streaming server is any good it can transcode .mkv on the fly to something the phone can play.
I'll go try it with an MKV file right now...bear with me, wife has the remote
I am using Windows 7 as the media server, btw
No good with MKV. None of the players on my phone will play it natively even though my Samsung TV plays them fine from a hardrive or memory stick. On my phone I have Divxplayer (or demoplayer) and moboplayer and they wont play it on the phone itself, let along anywhere else. Need a player that supports these. I think the Desire used to play MKV with Divxplayer but I don't think it likes the Sensation resolution.
Anyone any ideas?

Could you please advise as to whether HDMI mirroring works, particularly in landscape mode?
Also do you have a Wiimote? The BT stack should support it but I see people asking this question feverishly as though they're concerned... I think it should work, but now everyone's casting doubts in my mind.
PS. You're a lucky bastard lol... I'm dying to get a Sensation!!

Rockplayer may support MKV but it doesn't like the resolution or something because it drops out as soon as it starts to play. Actually Rockplayer plays MKV fine on my wife's Desire so it must be a resolution issue because as the Sensation is qHD

[Q] Playing Divx on HP Touchpad

Hi guys,
Waiting for android on the HP Touchpad, is there someone knows how to play divx (moovies) on that tablet with webos with a free application.
It seems that there only one soft who do that but not free.(around 7€)
Thx for yours advices.
find a video converter and convert to a supported format.
Probably mp4 is supported, don't know really.
A free one was called Format Factory.
as you say there is a paid app that can do avi, divx, xvid etc but nothing for free.
the best advice i can give you is to use the handbrake template in the following link to pretty much guarantee compatibility when converting video files.
http://forums.precentral.net/hp-tou...n-resources/287212-handbrake-preset-dvds.html
also, if you have mkv files, you could use something like gotsent to convert them to mp4 and they should work.
What's the name of the app?
Kalemsoft Media Player...
http://www.kalemsoft.com/site/products-WebOS-KSMPlayer.html
Thanks for that.... other question I have is I have put credit card details into the webos app store and I still can't see any paid apps? help anyone?
nevermind ... seems Australia is failboat on the paid apps...
yeah paid apps doesn't work for australia at the moment.
probably never now.
easier to just convert them.

The preware build seems to have a problem that prevents it to install.
Download the app from precentral.net/touchplayer and then install it by using "Web OS Quick install" App.

Tried .avi and then converted to .mp4 no sound but movie plays. .mp4 plays with the native video player but doesnt scale to the right aspect ratio
