I have HTC Panache. I tried to install Ice Cream Sandwitch on my Phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1341847&page=17
The phone rebooted using ROM manager. it was extracting. I believe I pressed the power button. Anyways, the phone rebooted and now its just showing the MI logo and a sound that indicates that its a new rom but doesnot goes futher..
I tried to reboot using adb . But when I go into the Clockwork mod recovery, it just shows a hat with a yellow round arrow underneath it. My Clock work mod recovery version is 5.0.2.0
Just discovered
My version is as follows. Is it some thing to be worried ?
<6>[ 6.091674] mmcblk0: mmc0:0001 M4G2DE 2.10 GiB
Your recovery is corrupt. Assuming you have s-off, you can try flashing cwm recovery through bootloader via adb. Search the forum and you will find instructions on how to do that.

find the recovery file, rename to "recovery.img" for easy typing, and put it in your adb tools folder.
reboot your phone into bootloader (volume down/power), and connect to computer. when connected to the computer, the phone should automatically switch into fastboot USB mode
type:
Code:
fastboot devices
to make sure device is seen. if it is, proceed. if not, get the drivers.
TYPE THIS EXACTLY!!!
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
it should give you a # of bytes sent or something like that
then type
Code:
fastboot reboot recovery
and welcome back to clockworkmod recovery!
if this helped, hit the thanks button.

Correction, first command should be-
fastboot devices
Ok. I did flashboot the recovery. then it installed the rom automatically. Now I am on MyTouch4g T-Mobile ROM. I Installed ROM Manager but following are the errors now
Flash ClockWorkMod :- An Error occured while attempting to run privileged command !
Same happens when I click on Install ROM. In start, it says that No Super User found. Though, I am sure I rooted the phone. Thats why I have a new ROM on my phone
--
When I write Fastboot it says, it is not a recognizable command

He sure has adb if he sees that privileged command error.
I would suggest now you find full pd15img.zip which has rom, recovery and flash thru bootloader. Once you are up and running stock, re-root the device.
He has S-OFF, but he doesn't have engineering bootloader. Which makes him unable to run fastboot commands. That's the standard bad news for those who root and don't flash engineering bootloaders.
But, his phone boots to adb, which is good enough - so the engineering bootloader could be flashed by adb, or at least the recovery could be flashed by adb. The last one can be done using flash_image executable while in adb root shell.
Off topic but what the engineer bootloader what the differences between are regular boot loader ?

So you mean, I should install bootloader using adb again ?
What was the command flash ... ?
When I type reboot recovery, it goes into the bootloader and a phone appears.. Thats all
When your phone is booting, run "adb shell" and watch. The "#" sign should appear.
If the shell stays and doesn't drop out when the phone is bootlooping (the sign is still there after 2-3 minutes) - you're good to go.
WARNING: YOU'LL BE FLASHING BOOTLOADER. WRONG MOVE - AND YOUR PHONE IS A BRICK.
Since you're already running a rooted OS, "adb shell" should present you with "#" sign.
The thread below has steps to flash engineering bootloader. Don't use those steps, but download the bootloader and check the md5sum (do me a favor and don't ask how to do it, simple googling will spill you 200000000 answers). Put the bootloader into your ADB directory.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996
Direct link to the file: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NN5726Z8
md5sum: df4fd77f44993eb05a4732210d2eddc6
Now, to flash engineering bootloader while you're in the ADB root shell, use these steps:
Open Windows' Command prompt in the ADB directory (DO NOT enter ADB shell yet!).
Type (EXACTLY as below):
adb push hboot_dhd.nb0 /data/local/
adb shell
("#" should appear)
cd /data/local/
dd if=hboot_dhd.nb0 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
You should see something like: 2048 bytes in 2048 bytes out 1048576 bytes copied blah blah blah
Now reboot into bootloader, see that you have 0.85.2007 version, enter FASTBOOT mode (select FASTBOOT with volume keys and press power button), and from there you can follow the suggestion above to fastboot flash the recovery, or anything you want.
And on the side note: you won't see any ICS in MIUI that you've attempted flashing. You should have read the thread - it clearly says "all the ICS changes are under the hood, visually it's just a regular MIUI".
I do not see # sign when i type adb shell..
Means I have to root again ?
What do you see? "$"?
In that case, try typing "su" and see if it brings you root.
If it doesn't - you can try to achieve temp root like when downgrading, using fr3vo.
For instructions - section "gain temp root" from the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912
In case it doesn't help you - you'll need to apply PD15IMG in bootloader as suggested to bring you back to stock, and then re-root.
this link returns me error
an error occured while running the exploit <-1> errno 25..
Probbaly because its already exploited may be ?
I am stuck and confused..
Dont know what to do :S

This.
Please google up "mt4g return to stock" or "mt4g apply pd15img", I'm sure there are enough guides to find.
Though applying pd15img.zip is pretty simple, there is even a simpler way for you to return to stock - just find the panache ruu executable in dev section, connect your phone to pc and run that exe.
Is this the file you are referring to ?

I have heard about phones being bricked. So do I need to be extra careful ?
It worked. Great. Now I am on HTC Sense. 2.1 !
Sounds great
Now should i start from zero again ?

Ok! first download : http://www.4shared.com/zip/XG506hyV/icsroot-fastboot-recovey.html
just unpack, connect your device and click run.bat.....Good luck!
I ran the .bat, but I get an error saying "Device already rooted", but it is still not recognized as rooted by SuperUser.
Alternatively, is it possible to completely wipe the phone of everything (including root) so I can start over with a fresh phone?
Of course you can, and might be the best idea if you don't mind doing it.
Make sure you have the latest CWM recovery on your phone, download the FULL ROM from this thread (i'm not american so i don't know exactly, but from what i know yours is the I9020T, so get that ROM) and copy it to the SDCard. Now go into recovery, wipe system/data and dalvik cache, then flash the ROM.
Do make sure you have the right ROM though. This will get you 100% fresh and untouched 4.0.3. You can probably clear out any non-personal folders on the sdcard too, but that shouldn't do any harm anyway.
After this, use the attached file from this thread to root, and feel free to update root/superuser.
Actually, that's what I did...I can't use CWM recovery because its displaying an error of no root. So how do I wipe this or fix CWM?
Is your boot loader unlocked? And are you trying to flash cwm through fastboot?
Note to backup your sdcard if unlocking the bootloader.

My bootloader is apparently unlocked and I'm trying to flash through fastboot.
Are you sure the following is satisfied:
-open padlock and google logo on boot
-fastboot (on phone) says "bootloader status: unlocked" or something of the like
-you are using: "fastboot flash recovery "C:\path\to\recovery.img""
-you are using the above command while connected to the PC via USB (with working drivers) and that you are in fastboot mode on the phone (turn off phone --> hold Vol. Up then hold Power TOGETHER for about 2 seconds, should give you reboot and recovery options)
It is necessary to be in the bootloader/fastboot interface on the phone when you run the command. Hopefully it was something simple that i said above, otherwise i'm completely lost.
1. Yes
2. Yes
3. I didn't use that method to root...
4. I'll try that.
3 is just flashing recovery, that is the code u type into cmd/terminal to reflash the recovery img. It isn't rooting the phone. 4 is how to get into the mode on the phone to use the command.
Its a bit confusing at first but makes much more sense once you do it one or two times.
Where do I go to get the recovery image?
The latest ClockWorkMod Recovery can be found on this page. Just scroll down to Nexus S and download 5.0.2.0 crespo .img. Then just direct fastboot to the folder you have it saved in while using the "fastboot flash recovery C:\path\to\recovery.img" command.
Ok. I've tried this, but in command prompt, I get the following error:
C:\Users\Bruce>fastboot flash recovery C:\Users\Bruce\Downloads\recovery.img
'fastboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
Check out this rooting guide, however only go up to step 5 (and do NOT type "fastboot oem unlock", do everything up until that point). This will setup fastboot for you, and setup drivers for your computer. Once this is done, do what you did above and it should work successfully.
Remember to cd (change directory) in cmd to where you unzipped that folder.
There isn't a link...
Sorry, stuffed that up. I fixed the link in my previous post pointing to NexusSHacks - How to Root Nexus S.
It's worked, but when I try to go to the recovery menu, the Google/unlocked padlock screen freezes or it displays an Android with its chest compartment open and a red triangular ! symbol.
I just had a really long reply and managed to lose it by closing the page..
That's the stock bootloader you see there, it probably didnt flash or you rebooted your phone. And make sure that you are flashing the latest CWM you downloaded before.
I flashed the latest CWM, but when I try to go to recovery, my phone freezes at the Google logo with the unlocked padlock.
Have you tried flashing it again, or maybe redownloading the file? And of course making sure it is the NEXUS S version which you are downloading.
Alternatively, try just "fastboot boot recovery.img", replacing recovery.img with the full name and path of cwm.
edit: btw, i'll be gone for an hour or two Bruce so i can answer any more questions/issues when i get back
Let's start with the beginning.
I rooted my phone, installed a custom rom and then installed again the official rom. I updated to official ICS and the phone tells me that it's still rooted. I have the Superuser app that didn't work. In the app lists it doesn't show any apps. When I am using a root needing app it doesn't ask me to gain root access. I tried to root it again but when I am using the "fastboot oem unlock" command it is telling me "waiting for device" (the phone is in bootloader. The bootloader says that it is Unlocked).
Because that didn't worked i tried to enter into the recovery menu from bootloader but this didn't worked either. It shows me a very short animation (something like a warning) and then it goes black and the touchsensitive buttons remain bright.
I tried to flash the recovery with cmd but the same problem.. waiting for device.
I factory reseted the phone but still the same trouble.
I've seen a lot of people with this problems.. but only one of them..if superuser doens't work you need recovery to fix and if recovery doesn't work you need cmd to solve. the bootloader doesn't respond to the commands sent from cmd and I can't solve any of these problems. (the adb drivers for usb are installed)
Can anyone help me to solve this please?
you want to be using: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Download the latest 5.0.2.0 CWM and flash it through terminal. You want to do this on the bootloader menu (where it says bootloader unlocked) while the usb is connected. Now straight away go into recovery and flash the latest superuser.zip. Now reboot, su should work fine and make sure the superuser app is updated. Rename /system/etc/install-recovery.sh and reflash CWM (Rom Manager or through fastboot again).
Now you're rooted and will have a permanent recovery.
Thx. very helpful! If anyone else have the same problem just use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1407192
Background
Use to own several HTCs and did the root thing and messed around with different kennels, roms, tweaks etc. Problem is I switched to iphone several years ago and now I am back with a brand new HTC M8. I am rooted with weaksause and Soff with sunshine ($25.00). Now I have been reading for three days and stuck. This ADB is totally new to me and the rooting process has change since i did it several years ago so now I am a noob.
This is where Im at. S-OFF and rooted with weaksauce. I loaded ADB. When I type in the command "adb version" it acknowledges the version. When I type in "adb devices" none are listed. My reasearch tells me I need to install drivers.
Can somebody walk me through installing the drivers into ADB and which ones are the right ones? I watched several vids but they are not clear and skip steps etc.. I need simple layman terms......I am trying to flash one of the recovery program so I can start tweaking but mannnnn I can not move forward. I am so close. So I guess what I am trying to do is install drivers to my computer so it can communicate with my phone correct?
Thanks
for any help
ok I got it to communicate. My device is listed when I type command adb devices. So now I need to figure out how to flash TWRP. Any really good instruction out there, I am sure there is....
Download the TWRP 2.7.0.2 img from the Teamwin website, rename the file to something easy like "twrp2702.img" and place that file into your adb/fastboot folder.
Boot the phone into the bootloader (make sure you first disable Fast Boot in Settings > Power)
Fast Boot is not to be confused with fastboot LOL
The former is a HTC feature to speed up boot time, the latter a protocol to communicate between PC and phone.
Open a command prompt from your fastboot/adb folder.
Hopefully you also have the fastboot drivers installed, try it with
Code:
fastboot devices
If you get the alpha numeric string, you're good to go
Next
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp2702.img
Once that is done
Code:
fastboot reboot
Uninstall Weaksauce if not done already.
Then download the flashable SuperSU zip and flash it in TWRP to gain permanent root.
Ok GOT IT!!!!
One more question, I am in TWAP program now, what to I need to do to get perm. root? I know to uninstall weaksauce. Is there anything else I need to do while opening it for the first time before I start flashing tweaks? Because on the sunshine site it say after you get S Off properly root you device?
As I was exiting the program it said your device is not rooted and to install SuperSu in which I did?
When I went into SuperSu loader in apps it said it needed to be updated from play store and I hit play and it went through TWRP and loaded and shut phone off. I powered it.
I would assume I am completely rooted at this point?
Looks like I finally achieved it! After going through the steps I am rooted. I downloaded SU Root checker and it verified that I am rooted.

Great! Now remember, before you do anything else, run a full nandroid of your stock system in TWRP (Backup, then just swipe the button) and copy it to somewhere safe as in: off the phone!
Congrats! Enjoy!
work in progress any help would be great. anything you do is at your own risk and possible may brick your phone or OS.
Ok this is a start of rooting this phone just like other carriers phone cricket z987 grand x max plus you need to install king root4.5 worked for me to get temp root. now this is not permenent and will cause phone to get buggy forcing a restart. what has worked with zte max, zte grand x max plus worked was after getting temp root you could install twrp 2.8.6.0 and installing superuser.zip from there gave gave perm root access but not full w/r access. now that does not work with this phone. phone boots into factory bootloader when trying to install twrp.
im looking into more option but as of right now I on a slow stand still till i can figure something out or someone else. feal free to help.

Has any progress been made? I've been tinkering with this for days. Been pulling my hair out trying to dump the rom. If I can get the rom dumped I can attempt to port cwm over.

try this
stock system.img, boot.img, & recovery.img from someone who has not yet installed TWRP or supersu. To do this, install kingroot 4.5 and terminal emulator and run kingroot to get temp root. Then open terminal emulator and enter the following commands without the ""
"su"
"cd /dev/block/platform/7824900.sdhci/by-name"
"dd if=boot of=/sdcard/boot.img"
"dd if=recovery of=/sdcard/recovery.img"
"dd if=system of=/sdcard/system.img"
You will need to make sure you have at least 3GB of internal storage space before doing this just to be safe. The system.img will probably be about 1.5GB I did this and I got all three files saved to the root of my sd card. it would be easier for you do do this your self I am over my data cap so I cant upload the file

I may attempt that this weekend. But honestly, I am more worried about getting custom recovery and a custom rom installed.
Had there many any follow up on this phone? I would love to get cm12 or cm13 up and running.
I know its possible I don't think its gonna happen it only needs twrp to be tweaked to install in a different location but I don't see no support for this phone
dude, this phone is so easy to root. you dont need kingroot or any of that crap. you just need to know what your doing with adb. which you should know before you ever get into rooting. email zte support and request your boot loader unlock code. be sure to include you will need to provide them your phones serial number and imei. you willrecieve it in less than 24 hrs. open adb in comand terminal and type "adb devices". adb should return showing your devices serial number and device name. if it does you are good, if not make sure you have usb debugging enabled on your device. if your device does show up then type "adb reboot bootloader". your phone should reboot to the bootloader screen. to make sure this worked type "fastboot devices". Again your devices serial number and device should populate. Then type "fastboot oem unlock and the code you recieved from zte". adb will say "daemon started... time elapsed... write successful. i would download twrp 2.8.7.0. once you have that downloded move it to the same folder your adb is installed at and in adb type "fastboot flash recovery (recoveryname.img)".here again adb will say daemon started... time elapsed... write successful. now move supersu.apk (your super user app) to the root of your sd card. in adb type "fastboot reboot recovery" and your device will reboot into recovery. unplug your phone. on your phone in recovery select install zip. select your sd card. select your superuser apk. the swipe to install. once its done select reboot. bam your device is rooted with super user installed. a lot of times when you unlock your bootloader your device will factory reset so dont be surprised. do this all at your own risk
Hello
I would like to help out with this if ppl are still trying. I have experience with kernel building and etc etc but I need to know how to root my phone otherwise I can't dump boot imgs. To port over twrp or cwm. Also the source does not seem to be available so I would have to write a ton of code to do so. And also I noticed this post dates back to when the phone ran 4.4.4. I'm running 5.1.1 and that's another issue once rooted I can do it but we need more support.
Have any of you uploaded your boot, recovery and system image. Also have any of you managed root yet. I will be attempting to do so this weekend.

Hello, I tried booting into bootloader but it didn't work, just does a normal reboot. It does recognize my phone though when I type adb devices. I contacted zte through email and by phone and they said they don't give those codes. Is the bootloader suppose to be unlocked already? Thank you.
Have you tried just typing "fastboot oem unlock" , or "fastboot oem bootloader unlock" without the unlock code? A lot of devices don't even need a code. Or if your bootloader is already factory unlocked, you could just skip to "fastboot flash recovery".
