Does anyone know where I can get the latest HTC keyboard and would it would on the Nexus S? I'm non-rooted so I would prefer methods of installation sans rooting.
I accidentally posted this in the wrong section without thinking. Hopefully I got it in the right place.

It was designed for the N1 but I've been using it on the NS with no issues.
I'd check this out. Fully customizable HTC kitchen for you
I used the HTC_IME at first but now I use SmartKeyboard Pro. SmartKeyboard Pro is basically the HTC_IME but with multi-touch support, they have most of the same features. Check out SmartKeyboard Pro from the market.

Never heard of that keyboard but I just tried out the trial version and I love it. Especially with the Gingerbread theme for some reason, I was never a fond of the responsiveness of the Gingerbread stock keyboard.
Thanks for the recommendation

Hey all, just wondering which is one of the better keyboards out there. I'm tired of using the stock one, so recommend away

Can anyone reply with links I'm using fresh 2.0d and the lag on this keyboard is a little annoying at times
Where exactly is it located? I'm so used to how useful and quick I got on it, so I wanna use it on Cyanogen mod or any other ROM.
Although I'm unsure where the original keyboard is located, you might try out the modded version of it, which imo is a little more responsive and has a nicer feel.

EDIT: fixed link
If you have not tried the Droid X keyboard give it a try. It feels alot better than the sense keyboard for me. It can be installed like any other keyboard via the apk.
thank you banzai for the link.

the thing i like about the stock keyboard is that i can hold down on a letter and get the correct punctuation instead of going to the next page
I have been looking for this all freaking morning. Thank You.
Check out www.gimpsta.com ... custom skin generating "kitchen" for jonasl's HTC_IME mod.... badass!!! Thread in nexus one forum!!!
Since no one answer'd.... the ORIGINAL keyboard is located in /system/app/HTC_IME.apk
that is if you havent over written it...
As some people have noticed, the regular 2.1 apk's force close everytime you try to open it on 2.2. I didnt see a thread here for the 2.2 version's yet i seen many questions in many different threads as to why it wont work or if theres alternate versions.
I am not responsible for what happens to your phone in any way shape or form, what you choose to do with this is solely your choice. I also take no credit for this as all the credit for the HTC_IME mod goes to jonasl and the credit for Swype Beta goes to the makers of Swype, im simply just reposting the links.

I find myself missing those also.
How do I install the stock Evo keyboard.
Since Evo's lack a track ball I find the arrows necessary.

No, it is HTC_IME mod which is a modified version of HTC_IME with a crapload more features and works on all different HDPI devices.

I am wondering the same thing so bump. It seems like the issue is the one we are using supposedly force closes or something. If that what the issue is then thats wrong. I have swype from the 2.1 update and it is working fine on CM6 RC1.
Someone please clear this up for us.

Im pretty sure there isnt a difference between the two. I think it only effects certain users because no matter what i did, i couldnt get any other version of swype to work on CM6 2.2 then this one. If you search the forums, you will see some other people sharing the same characteristics as we do, its hit or miss...
It work for me
I just Install the above link and I was able to use SWYPE on my HTC HD2 Android I am using CM6 RC3 works fine without any problem thank to all the people for this
I can't seem to find the one without arrows, but the htc ime mod lags on me sometimes so i was wondering if anyone knew where i could find the stock htc ime without arrows that works with a stock sense rom.

i posted in the wrong thread... sorry.
What ROM are you using? Caulkin's rom has a modded keyboard only difference is no arrows. Not sure if I can rip that somehow but is is just the IME mod works without lag same as stock though. Also if you use a swype with expired trial it just works as a normal keyboard (no swype, or mic functions also its blueish). Also a red swype from the droid floating somewhere in the forums I picked up a while back. One you get used to swype its hard to go back to normal keyboard. If you are need any pm me ill see if I can find you the thread or where I got them.
If your still looking for it, its in the second post of the thread below. I have tested and it works.

anyone have any suggestions for a keyboard? i don't like the stock one so im using smart keyboard since i already bought it when i had my atrix 2. only problem is its not ics friendly yet. in landscape mode the settings bar cuts off the last keys down the right side of the keyboard when texting and it doesn't fully stretch across the screen when using a browser. i know it because it hasn't been updated to support ics fully yet (im guessing that's true) but i like the look and feel of it has a lot of customizations. any suggestions?
i cant get myself to stop using Thumb Keyboard.....i have it on all my devices and i find it to be one of the best keyboards for me...love the customizations it has from themes, to size of keys, to layout...
I've used SwiftKey ever since it's inception...

Market
I've gone to the SwiftKey on both my Galaxy 8.9 and my One X. I really like it.
Swiftkey, really good
I really like Swype, but maybe I'm just so used to it now (been using it since it came out). HTC's keyboard isn't bad though. Swiftkey is pretty good as well. I'm using djdarkknight's stock ics themed version of Swype currently.
Swiftkey 3 beta

Stock ics keyboard the best in my opinion, the one from the market is glitchy at times ( 100 people will reply that it is not, but there wrong ) if u wanna try it what i did is download cyanogen (cm9) http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=maguro&type=nightly, then extract the LatinIME.apk file and install on ur htc . Its in the system/ app folder and I used root explorer to extract . You can find the exact same file online if you search for it but if you extract it yourself you know where its Been .....
I've been using Thumb Keyboard for almost a year across multiple devices but I am anticipating the Swiftkey 3 release. (I know there is a free beta but I'm waiting for it to be official)
Quick question, does anyone know if Swiftkey 3 will be an update to Swiftkey X (which I've already purchased) or are they going to release it as a separate app?
Normally I don't care for Go Keyboard, but it's been pretty responsive with the One X and I've been liking it a bit better than my swype keyboard.

Will be a free upgrade. Information based on their own forum.
Ice cream sandwich keyboard by Binary Bulge works great for me, if you're used to the iPhone keyboard then this keyboard will be very easy to use.
tossing in my vote for Swiftkey
more specifically Swiftkey X and now Swiftkey 3 (beta)
auto-prediction is awesome.

Thanks! I was able to find their Tweet about it after you mentioned they had said it themselves. Good to know.
Try Hacker's Keyboard... I loved it on my Captivate, Atrix and Galaxy Nexus. It's completely customizable and offers tons of options.
For the One X, I actually stuck with the stock keyboard for now, it's actually pretty good in my opinion.
I switched from Swiftkey to the stock ICS keyboard that's available on the market
I actually don't mind the htc keyboard on this phone, besides the arrow keys. That said, chalk another one up for Swiftkey 3 Beta. That keyboard is amazing.
