Hi All,
I have some interesting problems that I've been searching through numerous threads to solve with no success.
So first of all, I had completely bricked my captivate and managed to get a new captivate from rogers as a replacement. It came stock, completely clean with 2.1. After learning about the official/unofficial (depending who you talk to) release of 2.2 Froyo, I decided to try the upgrade. Here's all the steps I followed (in as much details as I can remember) with the post upgrade issues:
1. Connected my new Stock 2.1 Captivate to Kies. No Sim in the phone. No problems with detection. Everything was smooth.
2. Tried the firmware upgrade and it failed.
3. Rebooted phone, reconnected to Kies, it said that it required a "Firmware Recovery". The steps instructed to put it in download mode which I did.
4. Attempted the upgrade and failed again and "soft" bricked the phone (if that's the right term). When I rebooted, it was stuck on the I896 screen.
5. I didn't want to reflash back to an ATT 2.1 Stock Rom because I don't want the ATT logo, so I tried looking for alternatives.
6. I found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905042 and after reading through it, thought it would be pretty safe to try.
7. I tried the upgrade through Odin3 v1.7. With the modem file as well. Went perfectly smooth with no issues.
8. Phone rebooted into 2.2 and everything was fine.
9. I go on Wifi, Swype was working fine, it was a little laggy. I tried to use the Market and needed to login with google account which I did, everything was great. I got quadrant. I tested and got about 800.
10. so I decided to apply the OCLF.When I installed the .apk using the AndroidCentral Sideloader Wonder Machine app, launched and tried to apply lagfix, everything was unavailable and it said the phone needs to be rooted.
(Keep in mind this was ALL done while on Wifi ONLY).
11. I then tried using this file root-update.zip (as attached in my thread) which I had used to root my captivate on 2.1 by renaming to update.zip and then executing it through the recovery menu.
11. That failed and the result was another "soft" brick.
12. So I reflashed with Odin again to "stock" 2.2 and everything was fine, EXCEPT, now my boot-up Screen sequence is messed up. The order on powerup is I896 logo, Rogers white screen with dots logo with sound from the Galaxy S logo playing and then immediately switch to the Galaxy S logo for about 10 seconds then goes into the phone. This is no big deal but not sure if anything else is screwed up. It would be good if there was an easy fix to put it back to original sequence: I896 -> Galaxy S logo with Sound -> Rogers Logo with red dots.
13. I got a reply from a thread about the Super One Click Root for rooting which I applied and it worked perfectly.
14. I reinstalled the OCLF .apk file and applied the lagfix with the ext2 tools installed, ran quandrant and got about 1800 or so using a WIFI connection.
15. Anyway, after that I decided to actually try everything with my SIM. So I turned the phone off, put SIM in and booted up again. ALL was good.
16. Then I went to add an APN for Fido (since I'm with Fido) using this settings:
Name: fido
* APN:wap.fido.ca
* Proxy: 205.151.011.011
* Port: <Not Set>
* Username: fido
* Password: fido
* Server: <Not Set>
* MMSC:mms.fido.ca
* MMS Proxy: 205.151.11.13
* MMS Port: 80
* MCC: 302 (retrieved from SIM)
* MNC: 370 (retrieved from SIM)
* Authentication type: none
* APN type: internet + mms
Again, I've used these settings with my old captivate and it was perfect.
17. After inputting everything, I went to try and download a few maps from Market and it wouldn't connect. I tried to use the browser and texting and it worked fine, no problems, but I couldn't add any other email accounts.
18. I researched a bit and found all sorts of suggestions about Factory Reset, User Data and Cache deleting and then trying to add your google account through youtube, etc. You name it, I've tried it with no success.
So where I stand now. I have a working 2.2 Froyo stock, root with lagfix applied, Wifi working, GPS NOT working, I cannot connect to Market because I can't create an account on NON-Wifi, and when I try to create a google account, it sits in the setup screen for a couple of minutes then says "Cannot establish a reliable data connection to server". The Youtube widget doesn't work either and neither does the weather widget, but yet I have internet and text working perfectly. I have background data enabled, and once again, I've tried everything that I have found on this issue with no success.
I even checked the xda thread about this issue as it was marked as "solved" but didn't find an actual solution to it.
There really is no point in staying on 2.2 if I can only use Market and widgets on Wifi, so I'm hoping someone can help with this with an actual solution(s) and if not, if someone can provide a WORKING Stock Rogers (only) Odin Flashable 2.1, I'd be happy to flash back to that to see if it resolves the problem as I haven't found one that is working (I'm sure I missed it somewhere in the threads).
Thank you in advance.
Edit: I'm an idiot. *smacks head*. First off, I flashed back to a stock 2.1 that I actually did have and that fixed the boot sequence. Second, I had the wrongs settings. Anyway, I guess this thread can be for anyone that happens to go through this (although I doubt it). Either way, I have a PERFECT working 2.2 with the exception of GPS. Still trying to fix that one.
Er.
Sounds like you're having fun
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say: Titanium Backup.
If you can get the apk for Titanium Backup on your phone (you said it's rooted, right?) and probably BusyBox now that I think about it, you should be able to remove/wipe data on all of the Accounts managers. If we're using the same Rogers Froyo, it came with a bunch of jackassy account software that needs to be removed.
I'm surprised your wi-fi is even working, the Rogers Tethering Manager tried to stop me from tethering to my computer and my Wii.
But, I'm just a user. I'm also just guessing. So expect about the same results you've gotten from your attempts

Posting my query here as instructed since I'm a newbie account and cannot reply to a Dev thread.
Following the thread here: [ROM][4.0.4][P7320/T][CWM] Arlic's ICHI ROM 1.2, compatybile with P7320T!
I have a Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE from Hong Kong on the ChinaMobile network. (GT-P7320)
- I made sure to backup my original stock setup in CWM before doing anything.
- Then flashed the Arlicc's ICS rom sequentially as instructed (1.0 > 1.1 > 1.2)
- Everything seemed to install fine with no errors.
- However after the intitial wipe to factory conditions, load and new device configuration, I noticed that although I had signal, the data connection never went above "E"
- I checked my APN settings and made sure 4G/LTE was enabled (APN settings)
- No matter what I tried, couldn't get my LTE connection back, couldn't even get 3G back.
- Baseband reads as P7320ZHLC1
Since it wasn't working, I go to restore my original rom in CWM > Restore
- After restoring and then resetting everything back to factory conditions, I find I get no signal at all!
- Go to configure mobile settings, it says SIM card not detected?! (Haven't moved or dropped the unit, or touched the sim slot)
- Baseband now reports "Unavailable"
- The whole device also reboots approx every 30 seconds.
I think my backup is borked. =/
- I flash back Arlicc's rom and at least everything runs correctly. Apart from the lack of data signal.
From memory, I think my baseband should be P7320ZHLC2 for Chinamobile, but I can't be sure.
Unfortunately, none of the Hong Kong stock P7320 firmwares are on sammobile.
Help?!
Hmm... don'tcha just hate it when this happens?
..at some point between me putting the Tab down for dinner and then coming back to it again the 4G suddenly started working.
There are only two things I can think of that I did differently this time.
- I only wiped the caches / factory reset before updating the firmware, I didn't do it afterwards this time. Booted straight in after flashing the ICS rom.
- I connected to the home wifi to see if it would grab any extra settings out of the ether... non of the software updates reported anything downloaded when I put it down for dinner.
...yet when I came back and rebooted again. The 4G icon came up almost immediately?
Strange.
Hi there,
First post where I feel like I've tried everything and about to give up. Bought SCH-i705 Verizon tab 2 7.0 with LTE, I live in Canada in an LTE metropolis with TELUS service, I rooted the tablet according to here which was successful.
I never was able to edit/add APN's (there was nothing showing or options to do anything on APN setting page...so then made a few edits to build.prop with two lines where I can add/edit and return to default. (ro.sales_code=LOL and ro.csc.sales_code=LOL)
I've edited the apns-conf.xml file a ton of times, made adjustments all over the place comparing to my other android units and forums for TELUS apn settings. I disable the Non-Verizon Sim Card alert just so that I could feel better about maybe getting somewhere.
I'm a noob (and a girl) and this is the first root I've ever done JUST because I couldn't ever obtain LTE/3G data connection. WIFI is great but I bought this unit for the chance to be mobile with it.
Tonight I thought Mr. Hyde's Modem change here would kick it in the butt but still, reboots continually give me "No Internet Connection" errors. Is there a way to tweak in build.prop to get this functional? I really don't want to have to set up a hotspot for this puppy when on-the-go.
Thanks in advance,
Lisa
What i would do is do a clean flash of the rom again before trying various modems. MrHyde03 has two modems i believe that he has posted for the sch-i705 one is the g3 and one is j1. If youve downgraded to g3 i suggest flashing the newer j1 before you reflash his rom. after you have the current up-to-date modem flashed then boot into recovery and do a factory wipe. also make sure to go into mounts and flash the /system. Try to flash the rom again after youve done this before attempting to mod the system since there are no other post for internet connection errors in hyde's thread.
I ran thru doing a clean flash of the rom and steps you outlined. Still no avail... One thing I noticed this time on the locked screen was "searching for service"... when I went on to attempt to add my APN with the 2 lines from my frist post into build.prop so I could add my APN settings, the "searching for service" went away.

<bump> hadn't heard if anyone else had any other ideas to get data working. I don't have a way to test whether a data connection functionality is even possible as outside of Verizon territory at this point. Any other Canadians in Bell/Telus/Rogers regions playing around with this specific device?
First of all, sorry if this has been asked before - but I have honestly been searching for a while and couldn't find anything.
Ok, so bear with me peeps, this a weird one.
The Problem:
My rooted verizon S3 is running LiquidSmooth RC2 with the latest gapps on a GSM Carrier (T-Mobile US). The phone function works perfectly, but TEXTING (sms & mms) and DATA do not. What should I do for this (and other custom Verizon-S3 ROMs) to be truly global and work with GSM?
ps: I can't find APN settings anywhere, and the "APN Manager" app crashes the phone. I don't have a data plan, but the phone should still be able to access the tmobile plans website when I enable data - it doesn't.
Background info:
My carrier is T-Mobile, but I recently purchased an used Verizon GS3 (which is supposed to be a "global phone"). The phone was already rooted and flashed to an ICS Touchwiz Rom, so I popped my sim card in and switched to 'Global Mode' under Mobile Network Settings - and everything (except for MMS for some reason) worked fine. However, I eventually got bored with it and decided to try out other ROMs. I tried a few options, like CM and AOKP, but couldn't find one with Global Mode (or any option to enable GSM) until I came across "JellyBeans" - JB 4.1 and Touchwiz - which finally worked. This, along with some online literature, seemed to confirm my fear that Global/GSM Mode would only work with Touchwiz Roms... until I installed LiquidSmooth RC2.
After installation and initial boot, I go to network options and find this:
"Preferred network mode: LTE / CMDA / EvDO / GSM / WCDMA"
However, when I click the setting it only gives me the following two options (like the other Non-Touchwiz ROMS):
- "LTE/CDMA/EvDO"
- "CDMA/EVDO auto"
Tinkering with the above settings result in the loss of that last "gsm/wcdma" part, and will revert back to one of the two aforementioned options, rendering the phone unusable on GSM networks. At least in my case, the only way I found to go back to the default 'lte/cdma/evdo/gsm/wcdma' was by performing a factory reset and wiping data/cache, restoring the phone to one of the previous Touchwiz Roms that worked, setting it to Global Mode once again and then reformatting it in order to reinstall LiquidSmooth.
In any case, I just want to be able to flash custom roms and have the thing work with other networks.
I'm assuming that I can't flash an international or a tmobile (or at&t) S3 rom to my d2vzw, right?
So what should I do? I found suggestions about related to modems and radios, and also about compiling a d2tmo rom with the d2vzw requirements, but no easy way and not much else.
So, once again - is there a way to make (non-Touchwiz) Custom ROMS for Verizon's S3 to be truly "global" and fully compatible with GSM networks?
Thank you all in advance
- Mike
Workaround for GSM/Global Roaming
Well, luckily, invisiblek just helped revert a change on the CM tree that blocked GSM/Global roaming! Yay!
This commit got reverted: frameworks/opt/telephony 5343f09 PhoneProxy: On v6 or greater RIL, when LTE_ON_CDMA is TRUE
Now, official nightlies should work with GSM carriers. I, myself, use T-Mobile.
As for custom ROMs, you may have to wait till those AOSP ROMs merge those commits and changes. For now, you can use mastamoon's UNOFFICIAL CM builds, invisiblek's UNOFFICIAL CM builds, or the OFFICIAL CM builds, for now.
Although, you have to jump through some hoops. This is what I do:
1. Install ROM, Gapps, Wipe Cache/Dalvik, Reboot
2. Go into phone info by dialing *#*#4636#*#*
3. Phone Information -> Change to GSM only or any other GSM related network.
4. Turn off radio then back on (or reboot)
5. Add APN settings under Mobile Settings:
Code:
Name: T-Mobile US
APN: epc.tmobile.com
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
APN type: default,supl,mms
APN protocol: IPv4
6. Reboot, profit!
*7. Check if you get any FC by calling yourself quickly and hanging up. If you do get a FC, go wipe cache/dalvik then reboot.
We've discussed a lot about it in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2094251
+1 on paravex's post.
And, +1 for ,mastamoon's unofficial CM10.1 ROMs. They are amazing!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
I second that, ausman... Thanks a lot PARAVEX, this is greatly appreciated!
Tried AOKP again, the latest build is 10 days old... still no bueno, so I'm now running the latest (today's) official CM nightly!
It's weird, LiquidSmooth worked perfectly as a phone, but no texting or mobile data... I even managed to add the APN (downloaded an app that would give me access to APN config), but nothing. Eh, next version should fix everything.
Thanks again!

And glad it works for you!
can't connect to my data?
I'm having a problem where i cannot cannot to my data, the ROM is amazing, the battery life is great and, i just love the features of the original stock. But only one problem is that i can't connect to the internet!!, WiFi is working fine just the data. It says that its enabled but no luck, if anyone has a solution that would be great!
Hello peoples, hoping for a little help here.
TLDR; After downgrading firmware (big mistake) from 629, i reflashed back to 629 only to discover that my wifi will either connect and work intermittently, or (as is the case ATM) my wifi will connect and immediately disconnect, everytime it connects. I would like some guidance on how to get wifi working consistently, regardless of what firmware i need to be on, or what rom I need to flash. If i can get a rom that has wifi and camera that would be a plus. I searched and found one or two threads on the issue but related to earlier OTA upgrades.
More details;
Accidentally phsically destroyed my SG S3 a week ago or so, which meant I had to go back to using my wifes Motorola Droid 2 Global
Decided that since I was stuck on Gingerbread, and that since Verizon doesnt care about D2G anymore, I was going to root and upgrade, so I started researching and experimenting. That was my first mistake
So I;
- Tried to downgrade to 2.4.330 firmware per the (wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_droid2we) Cyanogenmod wiki instructions for droid 2 global, which "soft bricked" my device (stuck in bootloader with a "service req'd" message). From doing a bunch of searching online and reading, I'm guessing its because the phone was previously on the latest version of android pushed to the droid 2 global, namely, 4.5.629.
- I then found (rootzwiki.com/topic/23207-how-to-sbf-unbricking-root-d2g-629/"official 629 sbf) and reflashed my device with that (the link at the top of the thread)
- I dont remember everything I did next (or if i even tested wifi at that point), but i know the device booted and "looked normal". I know I then rooted with framaroot, and installed bootstrap mod (1.0.0.5), and did a bootstrap recovery (im guessing this is synonymous with installing clockwork mod??)
- Found and flashed (installed?) CM9-D2-01032013.zip (cant post links, sorry new user restriction) -- rootzwiki.com/topic/28082-d2d2gdx-cm9-build-thread/page-90
- The rom installed fine, but when I booted up, and tried to use wifi, the wifi would connect, but the internet wouldnt work (no response from any website).
- I downloaded some kind of "wizard" bootloader, that had a wifi fix (sorry I cant find the link). I rebooted into the bootloader, ran the wi-fi fix, and then rebooted. No luck (no change).
- I figured it was an issue with the ROM, so I flashed liquid_droid2we-ics-v1.62.zip
- Unfortunately, the same issue persisted.
- I then reflashed BACK to 4.5.629, using the --(cant post links apparently since im a new user) (rootzwiki.com/topic/23207-how-to-sbf-unbricking-root-d2g-629) -- "official 629 sbf"
- Wifi STILL does not work. At first it connected, and was responding, and then it stopped responding.
- Wiped cache partition
- Wiped data/factory reset
- wifi now connects, then disconnects immediately.
I'm at a loss here. I am on 4.5.629 using the official ROM, I tried a factory reset after a cache clear. I even found some suggestions about turning battery saver mode off, which I did. WTH am I doing wrong?
EDIT 9/19: Just discovered that I can connect to insecure networks just fine. I've read about changing my router settings as a possible fix, but I cant do that for any router thats not my own. In addition the wifi was working on my router before, with the same settings, so the phone broke somewhere along the way.
I was able to resolve the wifi issues I was having by simply unplugging my modem and router (though just rebooting the router would have probably fixed it). I don't know exactly what caused the issues, but it was probably multiple factors, including having a droid2 and droid2global right next to each other trying wifi, flashing multiple roms, and having dd-wrt firmware on my router (or all of the above). In anycase, doing a reboot of the router, caused wifi to work again consistently on both my droids.
This is consistent across every CM14 ROM I've flashed. I am upgrading from CM13.
The signal bar at the top is blank as in "no service", it attempts to reconnect and show a signal for a split second but then goes back to "no service" again. When I remove my SIM card and reboot the problem simply vanishes, but of course I can't get LTE
Firmware: PCA
Recovery: TWRP 3.0.1.0
I have tried running the ROM stock with no data restore and I have tried flashing APN settings from this post.
I at first thought it was a CM14 bug but then I read that others had no problems with CM14 ROMs.
Assuming you actually have a SM-G900P (since a lot of people ignore that little detail) it's probably a matter of Cm14/14.1 doesn't appear to be wholly happy with anything other than the latest baseband, which is now PK1. To get it, just reflash to stock with Odin and then poke at the thing until it gets the two OTA updates that will bring you up to PK1. At that point if you like you can poke at the controls to update the PRL and Profile (just to be sure everything's good) and then let me suggest you make a call or two and/or send some SMSes to be sure you didn't mess something up when you tried to change the APN settings one almost never needs to touch, and then flash TWRP (or whatever recovery you use) right back in and sideload the Cm14.1 nightly and open-gapps for 7.1. Also, you will need to do a factory reset after upgrading to 14.1 or you'll get a wholly different set of misbehaviours out of the phone (trust me... I deliberately cut corners through multiple rounds of reflashing to find out what symptoms to look for). One of the more endearing failures can be no soft keyboard, nobody wants that.
I had a bunch of weirdness happening (including completely non-functional GPS) with CM14 a few days ago, and since the changelog doesn't seem to show anything addressing the screwy problems I had, it hints very strongly that people will need to update to PK1 before they can expect the device be reliable.
OH... and don't try and enable Adoptive Storage if it asks. The performance is abysmal for some reason (around 2Mb/s on a Class-10 card that otherwise hums along at 14Mb/s) and it will make any apps that are trying to use storage run like crap.
So people have it working on PK1? Has anyone had it working on PCA?
Edit: Odin restored PK1, it didnt want to boot after the reflash. I installed TWRP and restored a PCA Backup, updated PRL and profile. I flashed a cm14.1 ROM and still had the same issues.
It also didn't wipe my internal storage when I ran odin, which I remember it doing in the past.
Worked great on my S5 900P
Gracefully I got it to work on Resurrection Remix. Idk if it was the APNs or just more stable ROMs.
I booted RR stock w/o gapps, I went to enter in the APN settings using this site and it just magically worked after I entered in only the first line. It's hard to tell if it was because the ROM found out how to connect or if the first line of the APN settings triggered something.
