I suppose its a different strokes for different folks sort of this but I just don't get it.
Why do people feel the need to know the exact amount of battery they have left? Can they just not look at their battery and see...
Green: Means your good.
Yellow: Means you need to find power soon.
Red: Means don't use your phone.
Why clutter up the notification bar any more? And don't get me started on all the "real" looking icons people try to put up there. [who needs a usb stick in their status bar. really. Its ugly.][IMO][I know some people like it. I just don't.]
For instance...the smooth sense mod. That is really a nice piece of work. The standard sense battery, the circle one, and many other mods. But no one ever made the standard sense battery without the %.
Once again I just don't get it. And some devs kill roms by adding the % as standard instead of an optional add-on. I personally have looked over many roms because of this single topic.
Any way. Discuss....
many people including me like to see the exact percent of battery we are at. Its a personal preference I guess

you are dreaming if you think that number is any where near accurate.
if it was then i might agree with having a percent indicator.
there is a reason these are not stock.
the battery percentages seem accurate. can you please explain how they aren't?
They are just that....obsessions. We all have our OCD's
One week I want the % to see. The next I don't bother. Then back to needing it
Yea I'd like to know how its not accurate. My battery is charged at 100% and dies at 0% hows that inaccurate?

Speaking on behalf of the tech crowd, it just makes us feel more in-the-know.
If you're jumping in 25% increments it would indicate that 85% & 65% are both the same ... 75%. I just feel more comfortable seeing the actual number present, even if the % isn't 100% accurate.
Even though this really should be posted in general or q&a... Metamorph is your friend...if you don't like a battery get a morph and apply it. If you want one from a certain rom/theme with or without % pull the framework-res crack that sucker open and go to res/drawable-hdpi/drawable-hdpi-v4 and pull the images and make your own morph or mod your framework-res apk. Its really just comes down to preferences. And this topic should be in general or q&a not themes/apps as its not really relevant to theme development imo .

No obsession. I just like it.
This is a very good question. It just comes down to personal preference, I hated it so much, I learned how to decompile an .apk basically just to learn to un-hack this MOD. No idea why I dislike it so much, I think it's because I'm a stock kinda guy.

according to this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=871051 our batteries actually do charge to 100%, but then stop and that is why the battery goes down so much after you unplug it.

Section Nazi. j/k A mod can feel free to move this to any section they see fit.
In some cases I have done this. But in others, such as the smooth sense mod, I tried and could never get it to work. I went into the thread and asked for a %less version and not one person attempted to help. Other users requested it as well. [NOTE: I stopped going to the thread due to poor battery life on sense roms. It may have been addressed sense then.]
I just don't understand why devs wont make it an option to have either. By only offering one or the other you cut your possible user base.

It was originally posted in the development forum where it didn't belong. It has correctly been moved to the theme forum now.
I would love to have this mod work with Sense. I have seen the mod the OP is referring to on the N1, and it is pretty brilliant.
I've already talked to Darch about the possibility of getting this on a ROM such as DamageControl. His response was that is wasn't possible without having the code for the .29 kernel. I'm guessing since his is AOSP, he can put it in his ROM more easily. Just a guess though, I know little about programming, code, etc.

I use BatteryLife widget by Curve Fish and love it, it keeps the percentage accurate all the time. I think in the 2.2 build under the cyogenmod settings there is an option to add the battery percentage to the icon on top, but thats probably not helpful if you dont want to stray from sense.
I wanted this as well and noticed darch had the battery percentage indicator within his spareparts settings so I tried to pull his spareparts.apk and push it over to fresh 2.3.3 Rom but that didn't work cuz nothing showed up in my app drawer or within the settings menu. I really want this mod as well but for now I'm using the battery widget by geekyouup which only takes up 1x1 on your screen and it can toggle/open your WiFi/how/bluetooth/display

Update to Simple Droid
All info about single percent battery and stuff is that theme works for rubix and gummyjar, single percent only works on gummyjar and it only works sometime, trying to find out why.
Changes-
Updated theme to have more things themed
Single Battery Percent is now more likely to happen but still only happens some times
Next-
Almost have launcher and basic apps completely themed will be out soon.
This is here because Droid X forums banned me for asking if someone would test this theme but it is all tested out and works.
huh?
I think a little more information is necessary.

No offence, but I find it very hard to believe they banned you for asking for testers.
For most people, their Droid X is their lifeline; so most people are going to want a bit more information on any app/rom/theme we install to help weigh their options.
With that said, It does look good.
They actually did, i know it sounds hard to believe and that why i want to know why but they said something about you must test first.
It is in status bar, I can only get it to work sometimes, i still am trying different things to get it to work out.
The things i was talking about was that this was my first theme so my other post turned into me asking how to get themed apps to install with theme.
What changes did you make for single digit battery percentage? I see that you added all of the images for it in drawable-hdpi and it looks like their are corresponding entries in MANIFEST.INF. Did you use a program to generate the entries or did you manually enter them. The reason I ask is because each one has letters/numbers for SHAI-Digest. I don't fully understand what those do or how they're generated. Did you make any other changes in framework-res?
I have not flashed this because It hasn't been tested on Tranquility and I really don't want to sbf if my phone bricks. If we can isolate the changes you made for single digit battery percentages and get it working consistently, this could be a great breakthrough for DX owners.

Love the look, but echo the concerns.
I don't want to come out as needy and disrespectful. This is just a request.
Can anyone creat a custome ROM that is as close to stock as possible?
With a few exceptions. Of course remove all the bloat ware, creat a new status bar by removing the t-mobile logo that waists space and the previously used apps (we all know how to hold the home button), and lastly make a numeric battery. Try not to use the circle batterys but stay as close to the original as possible.
Ooh as well fix sence 3.0 and have lockscreen icons.
Also I do use the caller I'd feature T-Mobile provides I don't want $4 down the drain so.please keep that function.

op: have you checked out the UOT kitchen? you can accomplish most of the status bar and battery tweaks you want through it.
the bloatware I would just uninstall with TiBu or any other program capable of uninstalling system apps.

No rush guys this phone isn't going anywhere. I would love to learn how to cook. I need to get over the big learning curve. The only reasone I ask is because there are specific files I don't know if are usefull or not. Like for example the new caller id feature I don't know witch files are associated with it. I do freeze as much as I can in tibp but I feel like its still slowing the phone down or taking up space. I've been a windows user a long long time and feel like when you uninstall something it's not the same as having a clean install. I can't get over that mindset. BTW thanks for the quick responce.

Those two changes require a framework hack, which requires another hack in services to disable signature verification. I've always wanted to remove those damn "Recent Apps" from the status bar, but only recently learned how to disable signature verification for when the framework is modified.
We have some amazing devs I'm sure sence 3.0 framework will be easly modified. Although I'm sure you can change the status bar without framwork mods like they did on the MyTouch 4g. Unless I'm wrong. Also thanks for revolution.

Until ROMs start coming out, use titanium backup to uninstall any of the bloatware you don't want. I uninstalled just about every app on my phone, and installed better versions of the ones I wanted, and in one case I uninstalled a stock app, then downloaded the same app from the market.
After getting rid of all the bloatware I noticed drastic battery life improvement, so I started looking at other things that were always running in the background, two of them were the preinstalled note pad app and Google Maps. I would stop them, and they would be back running in a matter of moments. I uninstalled both of them, downloaded Google Maps and ColorNote. For some reason, Maps is never running in the background any more. Not sure why that worked, but it did.
Well as I said in the post before I'm using the freeze function for now so I don't ruin anything. It goes into why I don't like doing that.

Means you have to copy SystemUI.apk to your computer, decompile it, re-write part of the code, re-compile it back into an .apk, then install it on the phone.
One of those "easier said then done" things, but not terribly difficult if you read through the thread and take the time to install the tools you need to your computer.
I'm intrigued by this, but there are other things on my list for this phone before I get around to something like this.

I wasn't expecting much dev support here in the beginning. I think ports will start showing up slowly but don't expect it to be anything like the Sensation subforum.
it's a shame because this is a killer device that can run anything thrown at it. with some patience and luck we'll get some devs who are interested in creating things for the slide... maybe from the G2 section once more people start changing over.
at least there's really nothing function-wise on the stock rom that makes it unusable for me. once the bloat is gone and ADW ex (or whatever home replacement you like) is loaded, it's pretty much all I need.. some aosp love would sure be nice though for me.
Yea, but it's a new device...and an expensive one so a lot of people don't have one yet.
For early adopters it's hard sometimes, my approach has just been to try to document everything as thoroughly as possible so that when devs do come, they have less work to do.
Of course, the best way to get something done is to do it yourself - i'd like to make my own ROM for this device, but i'm a long way from that. It'll happen, but i'm pretty positive that by the time I get it all figured out Cyanogenmod will have been ported to this device.
Still won't stop me from doing it though, i'm too curious.
Meantime, posting up everything we can learn about the phone will help in getting a custom ROM when a dev willing to do so comes through here.
I was wondering the same thing. I'm coming from the HD2 and the Galaxy St Vibrant so anyone who knows those phones understands.... I was thinking this forum would be a little more lively.
I've gone from refreshing a lot to refreshing once a day.
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using XDA Premium App
Yeah. Totaly. Look at the phones I've owned in the signature. I remember going back to the razer the forums were packed with hex mods and java games. Maybe not this specific one. Still this is the biggest mt4gs forum.
Someone above noted that the phone is new and expensive. That is definitely a factor. Also, from what I saw, T-Mobile didn't really market this phone heavily before it came out. Right at the launch I saw a good amount of ads but not long before. Like the SGS2 has gotten real advertising saturation. This phone is a real contender but because it doesn't have a huge screen it received, and continues to receive, less attention.
Things will pick up but at this point I have prepared myself for a wait. Devs will eventually get the word on how good it is and then things will pick up but it will take some time. For me, the hardware we have is worth the wait.
I did have a thought. Find out if there are devs working on this phone. If not, we could look at collectively getting a phone to a dev that could get it moving.

Circle battery status sucks, classic battery with % is the best option.
Is it just Verizon that sees the need to theme their Samsung devices in terrible colors? The Droid Charge poop brown is ugly, especially with the new buttons that don't match. Not to mention TW3.0 just really isn't good looking overall. Now I've just seen a bunch of screenshots of the Stratosphere in the Engadget review, and the theme is a hideous olive/throw up green. Why? I sold a GS4G on T-Mobile the other day, loaded with 2.3 from the factory and it was a perfectly nice gray/blue theme. Why does Verizon have to punish their Samsung/LTE followers?
I would suggest that they devote few resources to theming, and that themes are generally chosen that are usable with decent contrast so that text is readable.
I just flashed the red Charged theme on stock/deodexed EP4D.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1382949
If you like red, its badass.
Check the Themes and Apps forum for more goodness.
The major problem is that most users don't care as much about the theming and rooting as people on forums like this do. Usability is what they are after most of all. The brown works. Whether you like it or not, its bearable. But, if you really hate it: change it.
As another suggestion: There is an awesome Black and Blue theme on here that is amazing, and probably is the closest to the blue and grey theme you mentioned.
CoreDroid and "Black and Blue" are probably the two best third-party themes for the Droid Charge. Both of them are not gaudy, not over the top, etc. They do just enough changes to the interface to make it look good without changing too many things about the UI.
I used CoreDroid for some time and recently switched to "Black and Blue".
I've considered changing to the black and blue theme, I love the screenshots. However while I'm not a total noob, I have no idea how to deodex a rom, or even what that actually does.
I also beg to differ about the brown being easy to read. After the update, if you pull down the notification menu you'll notice that at least text messages are previewed in a nice shade of grey that you can barely read on top of the brown. Literally can barely see it.
I'm glad Verizon tried to change the theme, but really they didn't do any good at all. At least the brown and orange buttons matched the whole rest of the theme and you could read the notifications.

Just back up your phone with CWM 4.0.1.4 or prepare for reloading your phone. I used to be afraid of flashing frequently because I didn't have a quick way to get up and running with the large number of apps. Now I use the batch restore on Titanium Backup. Contacts are backed up on Google.
I would flash a ROM according to the instructions in its Original Post, then just flash a theme. I like Charged (red theme) quite a bit. You should know fairly quickly if it worked properly. Then just sign into Google, restore some apps, and you should good to go.
I've successfully restored from CWM backups, which is definitely nice if you just want to try a ROM or theme out and something gets borked. Its nice as well when you normally change a bunch of stuff with your phone's setup (animations and sound at bootup and shutdown are the first to go on my phone!)
