Cannot load anything on attached Tablet via USB, with Viewsonic stock it was working, after VEGAn update not, may be I should to turn ON something?
Edit: Actually in devices in section Portable Devices I see drive N:\, in properties of this device I see Tegra 2... but this device is inaccessible and cannot be mounted??!
Make sure USB Debugging under Settings, Applications, Development is turned off.

Thank you! This helped a bit, but still device is inaccessible, but Tablet is in USB storage mode.
PS. It works, a bit annoying each time to turn it on when plugged in, but still better then use SD card
Did that fix the problem?

first thing, try rebooting your phone and computer. also make sure that your memory card is mounted (settings>sd and phone storage). secondly, are you SURE that the computer isnt recognizing it as a drive? Co to My Computer so you can see a list of available drives and see if its in there. Sometimes you wont get the popup on your screen.
Drivers normally wont just disappear unless there was some type of system error. You can also go into device manager and make sure that it shows up when the phone is plugged in. If that doesnt fix it to avoid a long drawn out troubleshooting thread, try picking a day before you rooted and go to system restore and select a recent restore point. If you do that and it still doesnt correct the problem, then it may be time to troubleshoot the phone
and USB debugging wont stop your computer mounting your phone as a drive. When you pull down the notifications panel once plugged in, you should still see the option to use a USB drive whether USB debugging is enabled or not
Thanks man yea I figured it out the system fixed the drivers so it connected

It was working before I rooted.
I am using PBJ Voodoo Overclock Kernel with 1.8.5 Gummycharged and the SD card fix, before I flashed the kernel/rom/fix the mass storage was working fine, I could drag and drop but now (even though it's set to USB Mass Storage) whenever I plug it in the only thing detected is 'CD Drive (E: )'. Can anyone help? I'd really like to start putting my Music/Videos on my Charge. Thanks in advance :]
Try either:
Enabling USB debugging mode (Settings --> Applications --> Development)
OR
Setting the USB mode to ask on connection

Debugging mode works as a temporary solution I guess, it causes alot of problems with my computer, it freezes it up and most of the time it can't finish the copy process, right now I'm just using my MicroSD USB reader, if that ever fails I could just put the SD card in my old phone which worked fine, thanks though
I am having the same issue. I got the phone yesterday and rooted last night and it won't connect either. It'll charge fine, but that's it. I am on my work PC so I cannot do much testing, but putting it in USB debugging mode at least made the PC recognize it.
I had to set it to ask on connection for it to work for me

I did a quick reboot and enabled the debug and it seems to work now thanks. Seems like the sd fixed works afterall. Thanks everyone.
I cannot get phone to connect in mass storage either every time it loads it brings up a scan drive screen with quick fix or continue without scanning. Then opens as CD Drive, I am completely lost and getting no feedback, have yet to try SD Fix or where to get it or how to get it.
Have you done everything I told you? After you do all that, go to setting, USB Settings then check "ask on connection."
I upgraded to Sky-ICS RC7.4 Speed yesterday and today. Obviously the USB mass storage was working earlier because I got the .zip file for the upgrade on the phone. Well, just a little while ago I tried to connect so I could pull those zip files off just to save some room and it won't connect.
I can charge the phone, the laptop(Windows 7) and the phone both make sound/vibrate when connected. BUT, with I go to "Connect storage to PC" it tells me to unplug the cable, which it hasn't before but I did it anyway. I unplug the cable press the connect button again it states to connect the cable, I do. Press the button to connect and I get the same result. I've tried enable USB debugging and try again and it states to disable, blah blah blah.
It's great that I can charge the phone via USB all day long but really sucky that I can't access any of my files via my laptop.
Anyone had this issue or know of any fixes that may alleviate this issue? I sure would appreciate your help.
FYI, USB drivers are installed on the laptop and reapplied after the the issue of not being able to connect USB mass storage...
update: I am able to see the two mounts in computer management on my Windows 7 machine but not able to access them through My Computer.
I was reading from other threads about a possible Windows issue, how I find it unlikely, but I did a system restore from an earlier date and that made no difference. It's still a matter of the phone connecting completely to the pc.
Also tried different ports and usb cables, no avail.
I could really use some input so that if need be I can access the files on the phone to either flash back to stock or at least modify the files I have on there now to let me be able to attach my mass storage. I'm liking the the rom it's just a few little things like this that are making me completely love it.
i have the same issue if i plug in to the front usb ports. no problems with the back and its only been since i updated to seans latest speed stripped ICS rom
I was having the same issues. I turned the phone off, took the battery out, and then restarted it. It worked.

Correct; you need to reboot your phone because you probably connected / disconnected too fast and the phone is bugged out now.
I'm on 7.4 speed stripped and its working fine for me. Did you try installing the Samsung USB drivers exe in the dev forum?
Wont connect even on tablet
This is My also Case on my tablet. i cant connect to usb mass storage please help me what to do. icant remove the battery of my tablet and i only open it after 5 hrs so how?

I know that this theme has been beaten mercilessly, but let's try it again. Maybe someone can help.
I'm looking to breath some life back into my old TF101 with an update to KatKiss.
My serial number starts 037. I'm running 4.0.3 ICS. I have USB debugging enabled. I have MTP enabled. On the computer side, I'm running Win 8.1 on a Haswell i7 16GB with USB 3.0.
I have the original USB cord, and a new 3.0 USB cord from a third-party manufacturer. I've tried both cables. The TF101 itself is well-aged and somewhat beat up, but not beyond use. The cords work for charging.
When I plug the USB cable into the PC, the computer makes a sound, but no device is shown. The TF101 doesn't show that it's connected to the computer. I've looked everywhere: Devices and Printers, Device Manager (there's no "Other Device Listed"), under safely remove devices, and even under Computer Management > Storage > Disk Management. The TF101 is nowhere to be found. The computer does not recognize it.
When I power off the tablet, and try going to APX (or whatever) mode with VOL UP and POWER, nothing happens there either. (The computer shows nothing whether connected through the USB cable while Android OS is running, or while I'm trying to go into APX mode.) I can, however, go into recovery mode (or whatever it would be called) by holding VOL DOWN and POWER. I tried a factory reboot, but that didn't work either. The computer still doesn't see it.
Basically, I've concluded that there's no hope. Given this state of affairs, I cannot root my TF101, and, because I cannot root the tablet, I cannot install custom ROMs on it.
Does that about sum it up? Anybody else have any other great ideas?
I'd very much appreciate any insight anyone could give me.
Install the drivers on this thread and download Easyflasher
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688012
Power off the TF while it is connected to the PC
Hold Power & Vol Up to enter APX mode
Device should be recognised by windows and hear the USB connect sound
Nothing will appear on TF screen
Run the Easyflasher and install TWRP
When done, boot to recovery to check you have TWRP recovery installed
If yes, copy KatKiss ROM to Micro SDCard in TF and flash from TWRP along with Gapps

Detection, I appreciate your response! The thing is, when I try to enter APX mode, nothing is recognized by the computer. I don't hear any sound. I don't see any new devices appear anywhere.
Should I conclude that I have the "TF101-is-not-recognized-by-PC Problem"? And, if I do, is there anything else I can do to about rooting and installing a custom ROM?
RJM
In device manager, try enabling "View hidden devices" and see if you can see the TF101 ghost entry, if yes, remove it and then plug the TF back in and see if it's recognised then
If you don't see anything that way, try viewing hidden devices with it plugged in too
There is no reason it shouldn't be detected in APX mode unless you have been unlucky and have 2 dodgy cables, or there is actually hardware damage to the TF
Try installing windows to a virtual machine too, see whether you can get it recognised that way
If you have access to another machine, see if you can get it seen on there to rule out hardware as the issue
Thanks for the reply. I appreciate your interaction very much.
I've tried it on both machines. There is no sign of TF101 anywhere, on either machine, as a ghost or anything else. I've looked under the Android section, as well as under Portable devices and every other list. There's definitely no sign of a TF101. No sign of anything that my TF101 might be posing under.
The only time I get any kind of response by the computer is when I plug the TF101 into the computer when the TF101 has Camera (PTP) mode activated. When I do that, I hear a little jingle. If I have the Device Manager open, it flashes. But, even then, I don't see any sign of it anywhere.
I'm totally stumped. Would there be some clear indication on the hardware that would cause the problem?
By the way, both USB cables charge just fine when I'm using the USB power box. But when using the computer, there is no charge or any other sign of the thing.
If you have any other advice, I'd love to try it!
The power and data connections on the USB lead are separate, so if you have a faulty lead, it could still charge, but not be seen by the PC
Something like this:
1: Power
2. Data
3. Data
4. Power
You won't see the TF charge from PC, it is only a trickle charge via PC, and the TF has to be powered off iirc, or at least the screen has to be off, so you only see the result, not the actual charge
Not sure what having the camera on is doing, I would still lean towards faulty USB cables being the issue even though you have 2 of them
Im guessing that the 2nd cable is a 3rd party cable, not a genuine ASUS TF101 cable ?
i'm trying to connect my shield to my computer to do some basic android development (i have an app, it works on other devices, want to test it on the shield).
my problem is, when i plug it into the computer, nothing happens. to clarify, i don't mean that the drivers don't install correctly and then i can't do anything. what is happening is actually nothing. the computer (windows 8) does not recognize anything is happening, the device manager does not see any new devices even after scanning for hardware changes.
the shield is in development mode, and has usb debugging turned on, but i don't get any response anywhere. the shield does at least appear to charge over the usb cable, but that's it. listing adb devices also provides no output.
do you guys have any idea what might be going on that the device isn't recognized on any level that i can tell?
It sounds like either the USB port or the cable you're using is faulty.
Have you tried switching USB ports, to see if it's recognized then? And have you tried using a different cable?

If youre just trying to connect thru adb you need the universal naked driver. If the shield isnt being mounted try a different usb port and make sure youre using the shield cable as well. My samsung cable will charge it but i cant transfer data with it.
Did this get solved?
Did this ever get solved? I have the same issue. I have tried everything everywhere has said to do with no luck.
