[Q] Which phone should I buy? - General Topics

Well I have used phones like HTC G1 & G2, they were good phones but a little less performing. Which is a good Android phone right now that has pretty high specs.
I am looking to spend upto £250/$500 (for a used phones). And I am looking for a smooth running phone like good graphic ability and stuff, so hit away...

HTC Desire HD!

Desire HD or the upcoming motorola atrix? But you'll have to rise your limits a bit.

Thanks guys, looked up the Desire HD, looks kinda expensive =/. Motorola Atrix, how much are we looking at?

Well off contract it might be cheaper since its moto. Id say around 550<600. Not bad nowadays.

A few questions you should make your self:
What operating system you prefer?
WP7-WM-Android-Rest
Keyboard or not?
Size?
Said that and based on your 1st post I would consider the HTD Desire Z

Wise man speaking. Or G2! Amazing piece of phones
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App

I'm kind of disappointed about HTC. They making 10 new android phones per quarter.
Mytouch 4G looks cheap to me. G2 nothing new, except the keyboard. I bet there would be G3 soon, or some other kind of phone better than G2.
I think HTC should slow down a bit and create a Master phone that would kick ass of all phones around.
Samsung - I don't feel confident with them. Had a lot of troubles in the past with their cell phones. A friend owns Galaxy S, which glitchis like hell (could be just a bad phone though).
Motorola - Maybe, but issue with Cliq update and Motoblur make me reconsider the choice.
There are new LGs comming soon. With Tegra 2 processor. I had no experience with LGs at all. Lets wait and see how it will go.
PS: Just personal point of view. I too want to buy a phone, but I keep telling myself to wait a bit longer to see what it will be like in a month.

Yeah true, I personally only like HTC.
Well lets see, checklist:
Android
Keyboard if possible then better but not needed
Minimum display size 3"
I just hate windows mobile, just never liked it.
Need to check out the desire Z now.

Droid Milestone vs HTC Inspire 4G

Am wanting to upgrade from the HTC Aria and so far these two seem like the best choices to me.

+1 - I bought an Inspire 4G and am just so impressed with it. Just an outstanding phone in all manners. It looks beautiful. It feels beautiful. It works beautiful. The OS (Android 2.2.1 overlayed with HTC Sense 2.0) is just so supremely smooth, responsive, fast. But I saw mine get smoother, quicker and cleaner running after a couple days break-in period.
Regarding the Droid, I would highly recommend going with the Inspire instead. The Droid, in my opinion from handling them at Verizon, just can't compare to the pure and supreme smoothness of the Inspire from AT&T. There is so much to love about the Inspire. The skins are just a pure excellent feature and devs here at XDA create some good ones as well as the available official ones. And if you do go with the Inspire and want the majority of the available skins, I can upload all of the one I gathered here at XDA for you. I thing I have like 30 or 40 skins in apk form...meaning you just install them like any normal app.
You also get the HTCSense.com phone finder for the Inspire and it works well. You get access to the HTC hub and "Likes". HTC is a real and huge player in the smartphone market and they do make the best phones, in my opinion.
Good luck to you with whatever you choose.
the milestone 2 is the one boooyyyy
Okay. Let's add another perspective to this. I am also now considering switching back to an iPhone, or getting the Desire Z or the HTC Sensation. Opinions?
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
i think milestone 2 (or hd2) is best for you
If you're willing to spend the extra cash for the Sensation I'd say go for it. Latest and greatest sense 3.0 and all kinds of shiny stuff you may or may not need
Seriously though, it's the most recent and most technologically advanced out of the whole lot here.
I'd probably wait for the Sensation. The Desire Z looks nice if you really want a keyboard, but it's super overpriced IMO. (You have to import it in the US, I think).
Please, please, please, do not buy an iPhone right now lol. The new one will probably be out in six months.
If you have to buy something right now, I'd buy in this order:
1. Inspire
2. Desire Z
3. iPhone
4. Milestone 2 (is there even a compatible version of this for the US?)
i think milestone 2 is better
because it looks really cool
Milestone - I had the D1 since day one basically, and moving to a new phone was a really hard decision because I love having a physical keyboard...
However my need for faster proc trumped the need for a physical keyboard... I decided to go with the Thunderbolt... So far I am not missing the physical keyboard too much as the HTC IME works really well.
Which Sense phones include Swype? I'd take that over a physical keyboard.

I'd avoid the HD2 if you're planning on using it with AT&T. You'd need the Telstra version--people seem to think it's worth twice as much as the T-Mobile US. Also, if you're using it as your main phone, keep in mind that the only OS it officially runs is Windows Mobile 6.whatever. Expect to tinker and experience bugs if you're going to run Android or WP7. It's a really cool project phone, but I wouldn't use it as a main device.
If you want WP7 and AT&T, I'd wait for the HD7S or whatever it's called. Or maybe import an AT&T-compatible device (Mozart maybe?). AT&T's current offerings seem pretty "blah" to me.
EDIT: In summary, based on price and availability, I'd go with the HTC Inspire...
Well I'm a true tinkerer (is that a word?) And everything I get, I think,"lets hack it in whatever way possible." I am completely used to experiencing bugs. But the only phone I consider from at&t is the inspire, atrix, or the samsung focus (not including the iphone) I only look at the hd2 because of being able to hack and change in so many ways. that's like heaven to me.

WP7 is actually Microsoft's version of an iPhone. It is smoother, cleaner and more elegant. Things work more conveniently also. So far, after the NoDo/Samsung firmware update, mine has been perfect. Amazing reliability. Mine is 24GB, but adding a 32GB card would give you 40GB of storage. Something iPhone doesn't yet offer. But WP7 currently lacks much of the features other systems have which are supposed to be added in the upcoming Mango update sometime around the end of the year.
Yeah, the more I have my Focus, the happier I get. But if you do go with a Focus...it has 8GB internal memory...and want to add a card, I recommend using a class 4 or class 6 card.
Right now I have a class 4 card but it's pretty slow. But I've also considered the htc surround due to me being such a music lover. Even the quantum for it's keyboard.

Convince me not to buy a Thunderbolt… please...

(I have Verizon)
So I see that the Bionic is going to be dual core, better resolution etc. And it’s all over the internet that it appeared on Amazon for $149 for a few hours. So I would be an idiot to get the Thunderbolt now for $199 right? I mean even if I did want the thunderbolt I should wait for the Bionic because the TB’s price will go way, way down if the Bionic is $149..!
Anyone know when the Bionic will be out? I have seen post that it could be any time, others that it will be June...
A guy I work with has been looking for a new phone for at least a year now, constantly putting it off because there is something better around the corner.
Personally I really love Sense UI on my desire HD - it seems far better than motoblur, or any of the other UI overlays I've seen.
Yeah I know all about the putting it off thing. But these are big differences. The Thunderbolt is going to be like one of the last very top single core phones... Screw that.
If all phones are 2 or 3 months from all being dual core I want to wait.
Plus the Bionic has the bigger screen res and the dual core Nvidia CPU!
These are not little differences…

Since I posted it I have convinced myself even more! Lol
And I’m waiting for a post from someone saying I should wait for the Bionic too to make me feel better about it! lol
And unlike your friend I’m not waiting for “a better phone”… Its between the Thunderbolt and the Bionic only… I guess if the Galaxy S II came out I would think about it a little, but not much…
So it’s all about when the Bionic will come out and how much it will be when it does….
does seem very much like you've made up your mind
I seem to get burnt every time I stray from HTC. The big decider for me is actually holding one in my hands and playing with it - I've been all for a certain phone til I held it and thought "wow... feels a bit cruddy" hence why I have a Desire HD rather than a Galaxy S.

I gotta agree with the HTC sentiment. You will be much better off with HTC than with Motorola or Samsung. HTC phones are just superb, in my opinion. I have an Inspire 4G (HTC Desire HD) as well as an HTC HD2 and I had an HTC HD7. All are and were (hardware wise for the HD2 and HD7) excellent and superbly reliable and well built. My Inspire is the friggin love of my gadget life. I have not ever owned a phone like the Inspire that ever impressed me as much as it has. The Thunderbolt is basically the exact same as the Inspire/Desire HD except with front facing camera and other stuff...the LTE radio, as well.
If I were going to Verizon, the Thunderbolt would be my no-thought, no-blink choice. The Bionic is pretty much Verizon's version if the Atrix from AT&T. It has had some issues and the UI isn't as smooth as Sense 2.0. Plus if you want to customize, Motorola isn't too keen on an open platform. The Bionic looks good in specs and appearance, but that only goes so far. At the end of the day, the Thunderbolt will keep impressing you.

Agreed... I'm not one for brand loyalty, they all seem to have their ups and downs. HTC is on a great roll currently, and still seem to have something to prove.
My last phone was a sony and it was a horiffic letdown, as was my wifes X10. Both were some of the best around on paper. Premium price, nice design, AWFUL build quality and rotten support.
The other big plus is HTC tend to keep updating their handsets - the old desire is still getting 'em! Most other companies tend to stop caring once they have your money.
HTC is the RollsRoyce of phones
Rumor has it when the bionic comes out, it will come with new data pricing for 4G. Possibly tiered and higher rates.
You don't want the thunderbolt because its basically a refresh of the EVO. Tbolt has a better screen, 2nd generation qualcomm, better camera, more memory pre installed, new kickstand design, louder speaker, and its 4G at 30 bucks unlimited. All these reasons are not enough to get the phone now. ........sarcasm.
Get your bionic and have motoblur ... Yuck. Plus the bionic is ugly phone. Your truly going to sacrifice everything just for a first generation dual core phone?! ........besides you want a dual core dual channel phone but that's another story.
So far the only reason anyone has given to get the Thunderbolt is because they think HTC is better than Motorola. That is not a valid reason.
Anything else?

AT&T Users: Why'd you choose Inspire over Atrix?

Was it the cost, at $100 vs. $200?
The functionality?
The design?
Why'd you choose the Inspire?
I chose the Inspire over the Atrix simply because many reviews online claimed that Atrix was sluggish, bogged down with a lot of bloatware (which Inspire also had, but apparently managed better than the Atrix), and didn't utilize dual core effectively to warrant having a dual core. Reviews also claimed the HTC Sense was more appealing than the motoblur, which I agree on.
So, I chose the more "inferior" product, by spec, the Inspire 4G. I didn't even look up the rooting community when I was deciding this, figuring both products had equal root-capability, and equal community-support.
Simply because of cost. I now greatly regret not waiting until I had enough money. I wish I had the Atrix.
Why?

Why on earth?. The atrix has a signer bootloader. It also lags horribly. I had two of them, money wasn't a concern, and they were both gone in a few weeks. The inspire is faster bone stock, don't care what any of the atrix users say. I did a **** load of different speed tests, inspire won every one. Atrix lags with a live wallpaper, no neon support, signed bootloader, signed bootloader, signed bootloader, plus it has a signed bootloader.
Inspire is faster stock, and can be made A LOT faster with a kernel.
Atrix has a signed bootloader.
Bigger screen. Came from iphone3gs and the screen dazzled me! Now when I look up something on my now glorified Touch, I wonder how I ever dealt with such a tiny screen!
It has been a real pleasure finding XDA and learning so much about how these phones work. I don't think I have ever seen my wife's eyes glaze over so much as they have since I have stumbled onto XDA and excitedly tell her all the stuff I'm learning!
Did y'all know you can make phone calls on this thing too? I mean, wow! ;-)

All of the same reasons why i chose the inspire (i hate motoblur)
I actually went from iPhone 3GS to the Atrix the day it came out. It felt cheap, motoblur is just awful, locked bootloader, camera sucked, but even with all that the real killer was the call quality, which everyone I talked too said I sounded like I was muffled or foggy.
I returned it the next day, got the Inspire and have been extremely pleased with this phone. Never looked back.
Went with Inspire primarily because of my history with HTC phones. First one was a Fuze running WinMo 6.1, later 6.5 stock ROM's. Thanks to the XDA community, I learned a lot about rooting, installed different ROM's, then dove into the Android pool. My wife had an Aria for a few months and she loved Sense and Android. I picked up the Inspire next and she recently got one for herself.
Best features: HTC Sense, reliable hardware, unlocked bootloader, support from HTC and XDA communities, pleasant history with the devices.
1. It's HTC
2. It's Not motorola. ...
3. half the price and I found it was faster then all the other phones Att is offering.
4. ATT doesn't really have a better phone slated for release. LG Dual core.....puhlease LG is gabage.
5. Screen size. This is the first phone that I actually surfer the net with for enjoyment. The screen size is perfect.
6. Rom, Rom, and more Rom.
7. I got to come back to XDA...I lost touch with this awesome place when I went apple.
Money is the last concern when picking a phone for me. I was dead set on an atrix but decided to use one first. That phone is what gives android a bad name to all the iPhans. Its painfully slow. If the bootloader were open I would probably overlook the build quality, but alas no gas.
MOTO had a huge opportunity and they blew it. The inspire is selling like crazy from what I see. People use the atrix in the store and wonder why in hell its so damned slow. Doesnt it have a vtehk Duel kore with naz.

Sense, Motoblur was horrendous, the Inspire's screen is noticeably larger (which I prefer), and the Atrix's screen quality was horrible imo.
Same as others...I don't like Blur. I don't trust Motorola hardware either. But having the Inspire has shown me how excellent HTC can be. Sense is world-class. And at one point there were rumors HTC was going to do their own mobile OS around Sense rather than it being an add-on to other OSes.
Anyway, the Inspire is inspirational. I love mine. I keep it stock and it still runs as smooth and fast as a WP7 device. It has some hiccups from time to time, but nothing bad.

[Q] HTC or ??

HTC Incredible S is the phone I am opting for. At the same time Desire HD seems to be a sensible choice. Can anyone guide me; which one is Better ? or any other model from the same family with somewhat same budget.
Secondly, this will be my first android. I have heard that HTC phones are best when it comes to Android updates and their special 'Sense' UI.
If any other brand in the market is having better choices in the Somewhat Same Budget ? Not only budget, but I expect a really good functionality alongside good looks.
Hope you guys there will surely help me make my decision...
Definitely go for HTC. Incredible is I think better as its screen is just the right size, not too small and not too large.
check Samsung I9000
HTC Incredible S and Desire HD both are OK.
It seems the camera of DHD is better than IS. And the battery capacity, IS > DHD.
@ hookguy, OmenosTM, evnnetuser. Thank you for your suggestion. I am definitely inclined towards HTC. Just wanted check some better opitions if available. Samsung is really offering some good models but doubt whether is it better to spend about 30K for Samsung instead of HTC.
That's easy!
The Desire HD has got Android 2.2 while the Incredible S has got 2.3 so I'd definitely buy the Incredible S. But if you remove the letters I C R D E B L and add the letters S O A N T, you get Sensation. That's the best phone you can get and I think that the hTC Sense UI makes it better than the Galaxy S II.

Since, getting galaxy it got messed up within a few rom i got it bricked. Even my droid from motorola didnt get messed up . Point is HTC and moto is durable. Im buy me a droid incredible 1 soon. Go with incredible s and HTC. I hate Samsung and their touchwiz isnt a dealbreaker trust me.
So, all you guys think that HTC is always a better option... am I right??
Make sure you go and physically play with the Desire HD before you buy it. It is a pretty big phone. I was surprised how big it was.
Shall I wait and watch the credentials of HTC Sensation and Samsung GS-II ?
My advice to you is to wait for the feedback from Sensation users, GB dual camera dual LED 1080p ...
I'm still thinking the SGSII is gonna be great down the road.
Still rocking the Incredible with the XDA Premium App.
Thanks a lot for your replies guys.
It seems its better to wait for reviews of Sensation and GSII...

[Q] How are people liking HTC nowadays?

My question is simply: do people using an HTC phone enjoy all that it has to offer or do you like other phones like samsung or lg more?
There's alot of HTC users here...so don't kill me of what I think about HTC ... I have HTC but don't like the soft ware on them, some phones feel kinda cheap...my first and last HTC phone, I would buy again if they take away sense roms, HTC comes out with phones like every 5 min...or is it 6? I like LG and Samsung better

Well I agreed with Android311 People nowadays are moving from HTC to Samsung
Itz because their failures .They Are looking on Quick profits . So they Launched Lot of devices in a one quarter. And there arn't any proper Flagship (First i thought their flagship device is Sensation And then they released Sensation XE and Sensation XL)
And Also HTC arn't working on Updating process of their old devices (Such As DHD)
I had an HTC Incredible until I changed to a Droid 3. I never regret it, I had nothing against it, but my Droid 3 seems higher quality. Since I always change to CM, software didn't make a difference.

Yes are right, quick profits, when I see a company making or trying to make quick profits they are setting themselves up for failure all they want is money asap, companys like LG or Samsung make phones with quality, sure they may not be making money as fast as htc but they have long term customers who are loyal to the brand wich is the key to a bussiness....

i agree with most people here HTC software is made just to last until their next phone comes out. their phones look nice but quickly begin to lag and freeze i prefer LG ever since i used an LG G2X
HTC spend time making and designing their phones to make sure their users have a good experience, where as Samsung pop one out every day. Thats my opinion.
Since I got my first HTC (touch dual) i felt very impressed, but the last HTC i purchased, the HD MINI(photon) was pretty limited by the WM6.5 version, which had no apps in comparison to the Android market.
Then HTC started to sell phones with androidSO and must say they're pretty impressive(not like the GalaxySII).

The HTC feels like a much better phone, unlike the Samsungs that can feel a bit plastic.
Sense is a difficult topic, at the sacrifice of performance for what HTC view as a better interface, its very subjective. It also means slower updates and they still launch way too many devices.
Htc phones are very good phones indeed. To me their type of phones is like targeted to higher upper people kind type. While Samsung even though its still using plastic still capture the simplistic shape and figure of a phone.
