sounds like we all get froyo tonight?
Delete Please
I went to SamsungMobile.com and USA is not listed nor does it say that I have that region selected by default based on my IP address or anything of the like.
So 2 questions...
How is this relevant to USA/AT&T customers ?
How do I verify I am reading information that's for my region ?
I'm 99% sure it's not for any US or Canadian versions of the galaxy s. If you guys check out the multiple threads pertaining to this very topic, you would know that. The update coming out today is for the European and Korean versions. Samsung has repeatedly said that the update rolling out today is only for Europe and the US will be getting it later this year.
LOL... No.
There are two things I know for FACT about the Froyo update.
Waiting for it is just part of it.
And when it drops the news WILL be unavoidable.
It's a Don't call us we'll call you kind of thing, and I bet the phone will ring right off the hook when it comes.
Don't want to get my hopes up, but this may be true.
I just connected to kies mini and instead of getting firmware version is up to date I got, "Failed to connect to the model information server". Others have been reporting this on another forum. So I guess it is worth a try tonight to see.
I definitely think something is in the works here. I have been trying to check for an update via Kies. Most of the morning I am getting "Failed to connect to the model information server". I believe some people received the same thing prior to the last update. Guess we will all have to wait and see.
http://kr.samsungmobile.com/notice/anycallpopup/froyo_up.jsp
go go go
That's in Korean ... so I am assuming the update is for Korean phones?
http://news.softpedia.com/news/Android-2-2-Froyo-on-Galaxy-S-in-More-Markets-166602.shtml
Looks like we can expect this update in the United States later today.
I just checked out samsungmobile.com and USA is not an available selection. So not really getting my hopes up about the reports of 2.2 later today.

Still, it's fun to see rumor threads pop up.
It'll be funnier when the "I flashed back to stock to get ready but nothing happened" threads pop up later.
**Waiting with baited breath**
Just connected mine to Kies and got the message saying I have the latest firmware version. Others have been having connection issues but mine synced right up ... I think this is another wild goose chase unless you are living in Korea.

I have been trying all morning and I think about 75% of the time I could not connect and the other 25% of the time I had the same results as you. Could be that everyone is trying the server is overwhelmed. Either way the link I put in my last post makes it sound like the update is likely to hit the US today.
I am not holding my breath though since every Samsung phone I have ever owned has been one goose chase after the next when it comes to updates.
I think waiting around for froyo has made me bitter. I keep getting my hopes up only to get shot down ... I have become a pessimist. Gee thanks Samsung haha.

I heared it was WEDNESDAY! LOL
This update is not for the US market but for everyone else. I found this comment on the Galaxy S twitter page:
@imms0fat Hi Rich. Thx for that article. It refers to non-US phones. Samsung USA and TMO should release 2.2 by the end of the year.
So us US folks are left in the cold til years end
Trust. Me if it was coming out for our phones (USA) android central would be all over it. So far nothing from them.

Thank you,
Saw this on engadget but the link goes nowhere. Anybody confirm?

Moved to general as not android development
that page has been there for some time, it is now gone
I couldn't find any other info on it - But being that the post was just made this morning, I'm still excited...
saw this too, but the page it linked to (which is pulled now btw) was actually a direct copy/paste of the 2.2 update for the Vibrant when I saw it last night. The cached version here still has all the tmobile references.
Maybe try to go back to stock and give kies a try.

I have to put it in debugging mode to get Kies Mini to see it. I have no idea what impact that may have on actually upgrading though. I'm stock Eclair BTW.

Towards the bottom in they have mobitv renamed to t-mobile tv.
Maybe they realized the error and pulled it.

LOL. Samsung's/AT&T's never ending ineptitude provides quite a bit of comic relief. I mean...really, how hard is it to push an update? I remember getting OTA updates on my G1 without issue. Has nothing been learned since then?

I don't know how I missed that? Thanks though.
It had this sentence at the bottom too:
* What are risks for performing the upgrade?
o This upgrade has been thoroughly tested by Samsung and AT&T to be compatible with Captivate devices running previous versions of the released software. Customers who are running unsupported operating systems (e.g. those that are rooted or have not been received from T-Mobile and Samsung) should move forward at their own risk.

LOL, FIND ALL "T-Mobile" REPLACE WITH "AT&T" it's that easy.... or one would think....
I checked Kies Mini and nothing. Blah!
Ehh ...
The probability of Samsung/AT&T releasing something better than what you can find here at XDA is extremely low. The devs here at XDA are probably more familiar with the phone than Samsung or AT&T anyway, as they have actually been working with it these past few months.
I'm actually a bit surprised that there isn't an XDA branded phone by now.

Just a friendly little anecdote for you. Do with it what you will...
I worked tech support in a call center for a large mobile provider and was terminated for posting on forums after they managed to link me to some posts I had made. They did this by monitoring network traffic in the building, which lead them to my computer since I was posting them while at work. I was fired for the content of the posts, although they were all completely harmless, such as your post. They felt I was divulging proprietary information.
For a long time I kicked myself for posting on the forums with my work computer, but really I should have been kicking myself for posting at all, from any device. In the end, just ask yourself if the risk is worth the reward.
Now, the bright side of this, 6 months later I landed a great job as a network admin for a great company.
Oh and about that company I used to work for, their name started with a T and ended with a Mobile.

I think you're missing the bigger point here. As I said in the post, the conclusion I made in the end was that it really wasn't worth it to post at all, regardless of where I was posting. They could just as easily linked me to the posts using other methods, such as overhearing something, or someone tattling. Or maybe I became facebook friends with someone on the forums, and they reported me. There are plenty of ways.
Nevertheless, I did say to do what you will with the story. But seriously, consider the whole risk vs. reward part of it. What are you really getting out of posting small bits of 'insider' information? Probably not much. And believe me, I didn't think I was divulging anything proprietary, but it didn't matter what I thought. My posts were almost identical to yours. I wish someone had said this to me back then (even though I landed a better job in the end).
Anyhow, good luck to you. You probably won't get burned like I did, but as they say... **** happens.
Can someone explain why a rooted phone will not work with the OTA? Is having CWM also an issue? What do I need to do to prepare my phone before the update arrives?
I also do not understand why TMo would not publish the update on their site like they do with all the windows phones.

Absolutely right. I later learned that I wasn't the first to be terminated for posting, and I'm sure I won't be the last.
In my last comment I mentioned that I wish someone had given me this bit of 'advice' long ago, but come to think of it, someone pretty much did. I distinctly remember someone replying to me one day and saying that they know other employees had gotten in trouble for posting. I brushed it off just like this guy/gal.
Just trying to pay it forward

You need to revert back to stock for the update. This is because the update is designed to build on the stock OS, not whatever you have on your phone. As far as rooting it and leaving it stock, not sure what the root does to block the ota.

I can't be positive, but perhaps its not so much rooted as flashed with another ROM. I've heard of rooted phones being updated. I've not heard of cooked ROMs being updated.
But, I know nothing for sure.
I don't know if this means anything other than what it says. But I have tried to connect to get software update and it keeps giving me the old can't connect at this time message. Could it be that the servers on their end are overwhelmed with others trying to do the update if it is indeed out?
And another question...I am not a T-Mo suscriber. I use Simple Mobile. Would the update get pushed to my G2x or would I have to manually install it? Thanks
Thanks guys. I am running rooted stock and stayed that way on purpose so I could get the update. I also stayed stock because my phone runs like a champ. Never had a reboot and everything works as intended.
You are probably better off waiting a few days to let our developers get a hold of it anyway.

When there are 'Official' releases to multiple carriers, then each carrier would get a push, based on their own agreements with LG. If the phone is a regionally sold phone, also called unbranded, a push is made to them also. Most commonly, you see the unbranded phones get the update first, since the carrier testing does not have to be done.
But, in reality..it is all a crap shoot....so you're still waiting, no matter what.
Anyone have any solid information on this though? There are just too many threads of "I just heard the GB update..." with no solid ROM information or even a picture.

So, I was wondering....where does one go to get 'solid' information? We're here in a community forum, using fake names. More than half of us can't vote, work in a burger king or in college. We all have a tendency to read and search and google/bing about the G2x.
I for 1 couldn't tell solid information from rumor. I will say this though...if the information you have, comes from Twitter, Android Police, TMONEWS, or anything with a 'Forum' in front of it....its a rumor. If your great news starts with, " I just talked to a TMobile CS...." its a rumor. If you just talked to your friend, who works in a store or is a TMobile CS agent, its a rumor.
You'll either get an OTA on your phone, and recieve the update which you can prove with a screen shot. Or you'll plug into the LG support tool and update, which you can validate again, with screenshots...
All else is rumors. Please post all rumors in the HTC Sensation forum...where they are living the dream.
So I had a chat with someone from Samsung, Tried to gather up all the problems everyone is having with unresponsiveness and the overall firmware being laggy. This Asshole pushes me forward into just telling me that theres issues with my phone.
Chat Information Please wait for a Samsung Agent to respond.
Chat Information You are now chatting with 'Phillips'. There will be a brief survey at the end of our chat to share feedback on my performance today.
Chat Information Your Issue ID for this chat is LTK5640680671X
Phillips: Hi, thank you for contacting Samsung Technical Support. How may I help you today?
Visitor: hello
Phillips: Hello, please go ahead with your inquiry.
Visitor: I was able to obtain the Gingerbread update for my Samsung Infuse 4G and Updated the firmware February 1st when it first came out and I'm noticing things like my touchscreen being unresponsive and the overall software being laggy. I heard they pulled the Update for fixing, but those of us who already updated will there be a fix for those who already updated?
Phillips: I am sorry to know that, I will be more than glad to assist you.
Phillips: I understand that you are experiencing issues with the Infuse phone after you have updated the phone software to Gingerbread. Is that correct?
Visitor: After doing the Update on February 1st I proceeded on deleting all cache and data and doing the Factory Reset thinking it would help perform better after the update, this is my 2nd week running the software and I'm just overall unhappy with it.
Phillips: I apologize for the inconvenience.
Phillips: Thank you for confirming.
Phillips: Just to know, did the issue start after installing any specific application on the phone?
Visitor: Nope! I noticed it right after the update with no apps installed on the phone, If the phone is lying flat on a surface it normally won't swipe when I run my finger across the screen, it just don't respond to my touch. it works a little better when the phone is held in a upright posistion.
Phillips: Okay.
Phillips: I see that you have tried with all possible troubleshooting steps and even restored the phone to factory settings to fix the issue with phone performance.
Visitor: Yes! Even done battery pulls.
Phillips: I suspect issue with phone itself and it requires a physical diagnosis to fix the issue with phone.
Visitor: I just got this phone 2 weeks ago, Brand new Refurb.
Phillips: As you are saying the phone is new, I suggest you contact place of purchase for assistance.
Phillips: However, you can contact our voice team for further assistance.
Phillips: You can contact our voice support at 1-888-987-4357, Mon-Fri: 7 AM - 9 PM (CST), Sat: 9 AM - 6 PM (CST).
Visitor: I just wanna know if those who already updated with the bad Update, will they receieve a Patch fix to fix the buggy problems with the OS firmware.
Phillips: As you have tried with possible troubleshooting steps, I have provided you with the contact details to reach our voice team for sending in the phone for service.
Phillips: No, many of our customers are using the phone without any issues even after updating the phone software to Gingerbread.
Phillips: Please do not worry, I suspect issue with the phone itself. Once you contact our voice team they will be glad to assist you further with the issue.
Bottom Line is.........The only issue there fixing with it is those who couldn't update it in the first place which was something contained in the Official Update that blocked Kies Mini from Updating your phone. What we have is what we have folks, a piece of **** bugged firmware. Case Closed!
Final Words: Phillips: No, many of our customers are using the phone without any issues even after updating the phone software to Gingerbread.
dang, from now on i will be buying unbloated, unlocked international phones.glad i didnt update!! but i guess you can still get back to froyo? after the gingerdeath downgrade..
all this is supposedly what is holding up source code release too. already harrased the osrc till I got a human responce and they claim the holdup has to do with putting tthe update on hold. this is horse **** being that the sorces are supposed to be released simultaneously. the Rogers release was actually before the phone hit the shelves in Canada.
well as I've said many time...my Infuse 4g runs excellent on Stock GB.
I use an alternative launcher so maybe that's it.
I agree... the update was ****, worse gb update of all the galaxy phones... Samsung coulda kept that one to theirselves.... the leak was better with some tweaking

I wonder if we can figure out why the UCKL2 update causes problems on some Infuse phones but not others. I installed UCKL2 (via Odin, after the official download was pulled) and it's been working great. No screen-responsiveness problems, whether the phone is upright or horizontal. (And I've finally got Skype videochat using the front camera.)
Have you tried the *#0*# test of the touchscreen? Does it pass?

They chose not to and your absolutely right. No root option, and etc. They totally ****ed the phone up. It's being sold for so cheap due to its ****ty features and no rooting options. Samsung you Fail! We probably won't see it for atleast another month the way Verizon is with their updates. Either way I will avoid it, I value root too much.
Update PDF to see changelog and what was updated/improved/ruined. However you want to look at it. Seems like very minor changes from which not many people will benefit.

I'll skip it for now, there is nothing for me in there. I don't use any of the apps other than contacts and that's working fine. I'll wait and see if anyone looses root with it.
I am inclined to agree XTC. I am also not going to be putting the OTA updater .apk back on my device. No way.

Yeaaaaaaaa. So the update is failing on my device haha. I'll take it as a sign. I don't really care for it much anyway.
Sounds about right. They either wait too long, or shoot it off before its ready. hahaha
Anyone know why my update may be failing though? update failure code 402. I have my phone rooted/debloated. I don't think that should make the update fail though.
To resolve, try plugging the Phone up to a PC and install the Verizon Updater software that is on the Phone's flash drive..(it is one of the disks that auto pops up when you connect the phone).

My work day is almost over, then 1 more work day, with no client at my facility. It's a good end to today, and a good beginning to the weekend!

Hah. I feel you. It's been a good summer thus far . My windows 8.1 box isn't letting me run the Verizon upgrade assistant. I'm going to try from a 7 PC

It's because you don't have a stock filesystem.
Not the Performance Improving Update!
I thought it was related to this update but apparently it is not.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 is now receiving a performance-improving firmware update

haha nah. I have linux on my vbox. I have other workstations at work with windows 7 on 'em. I can't get it to open. I wonder if it is because we are blocking outbound ports with ACL's and maybe the software needs access to something to launch. I'll try off of a public Wifi as that's wide open. That's the only similarity between the windows7 and 8.1 machines.
EDIT: yup, it requires port 443 to be open (which it is) but it is also passing through our content gateway proxy. I believe it was flagging it as some malicious. Luckily, I know it's not malicious and I am the systems admin so I was able to bypass

Doh, upgrade assistant isn't showing the upgrade yet. Oh well, like I said, not too pressed for it haha.
