Something weird with battery life - Captivate General

So I pulled my phone off the charger at 6am today, when I got home from work at 5pm(11 hrs later), I had 60% battery left.
weird thing is, I just noticed my brightness has been at 62% all day. Lowest being 11%. I usually keep it at the lowest brightness but I must have tripped it up somehow.
That is amazing battery life given the usage during those 4 hours. Texted, played angry birds, emailed, all of it all day.
I'm running Serendipity 2.0 with glitterballs kernel, 1.2ghz no uv. 1009 and I got it on Amazon.
Maybe the brightness keeps the cpu running at a speed that better utilizes the battery drain?

I think it's just recalibrated device eg batterystats.bin

Random severe battery drain

I have the 2750 mah battery in my phone. Bamf 1.5 with the new radio. 4 hours off the charger and it is at 65 percent. Any idea? All syncing is off, screen at 40%, no Widgets other than fancy widget on. This is nuts. I can't figure out what's going on.

Have you wiped battery stats?
I have the same issue. One day my phone goes 20+ hrs on a charge, the next day it drains 40% in 3 hrs, with no significant change in usage. I've swapped kernels, wiped battery stats, kill nonessential apps & services, and I still can't find the culprit. But my extra battery is in en route, so I'm not too concerned
No. Haven't wiped battery stats yet. I heard bad things about wiping the stats on the TB.

I get the same thing every few days and it drives me crazy. You can instal a current widget and it'll show you what the draw is. Normall idle I'm at 38mA. But in these bouts of mystery drain it'll go up to 250-300mA for no reason. And this is with wifi/4G off too. But once I turn it on airplane mode the current goes back to normal until I take it off airplanel. So it's something to do with the regular cell radio...
Its ridiculous. Its stuff like this that kind of make me wish HTC held this back another few weeks.

yeah i have this issue also. today Google Voice had partial waked my phone to 50% battery. i don't get it.
I have seen the same thing, anyone also notice the battery cooking when the drain is going on. I usually reboot the phone thinking an app is hung just banging on the system, sometimes it works other times not so much.
+1 i'm seeing this as well. when its happening the phone gets really hot. i hope this gets figured out.

I had this problem on the BAMF 1.5 ROM + kernel combination. I recently switched to Imoseyon lean kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1021404) and now the battery life is amazing. I've been off the charger since about 12:33am (CST) and it is now 12:28pm (CST) and I'm at 52% with average use.
On battery calibration. I strongly recommend doing this if when you restart your phone you lose drastic percentages. I was losing 11% with a restart indicating that it wasn't reporting accurate battery status. I used the battery calibration tool which is on the market. Now here is the kicker that i learned from Droid Incredible days, you have to fully charge the battery. That does not mean wait till your phone reports 100% that means turn off the device and charge until the notification led turns green and start up the phone and let it charge to the light goes green again then calibrate. Then disconnect and use til completely dead without plugging it in AT ALL!! This has worked for me.
Hope this helps everyone.
i really hope this thread doesnt die since this is a real problem apparently quite a few people have....
I didn't read all the post but after flashing a radio you have to wait a couple days yoga week before the battery can recalibrate.

Battery monitor is showing 1350mAh
Wondering if I have a bad battery or maybe that's how it's read? Shouldn't it read 1400 instead of 1350?
I have this problem too... Its because something is not letting the kernal throttle down. Check setcpu and you will see it stuck on the Max speed. The smartass gov is most suspect because it doesn't use profiles
It's just the way it is for now. For the last 2 days I've been getting horrible battery life. All of a sudden things changed today. Battery drain is between 30 & 38 every 60 seconds. 2 days straight of 250-300 drove me frigging crazy.
Thunderbolt - BAMF Remix 1.5
Yeah I have these random cases too. However a reboot fixes the issue. Besides faster than normal battery drain, you should notice higher battery temperature.
I believe it's an application issue, something that we can't tell yet.
Honestly I have high hopes for the TBolt down the road. When Evo first came out, we were experiencing similar problems too. Given time the devs were able to get them solved. This is why I prefer HTC and XDA.
I got great life today. Yesterday was terrible. I'm still getting the large drop in percentages on reboot, but battery life is draining slowly. Something I was wondering is if we lose 15 percent on a drop, does that mean the battery is actually 15 percent lower when I restart? So if my battery is at 60 percent in my task bar, is it actually 45 percent? And if that is the case, what happens when it drops down to 10 percent on my taskbar? In theory that would mean the battery had 0% life. Now the strange part of that is I'm still losing battery from 10% down to 0%, once it hits 0 it shuts off, however, if I restart the phone at 8 percent it won't reboot. So why will the phone stay running at 8% battery, but it will not boot back up after the restart. Its been a long day so sorry if I'm rambling or not making sense. But you know what I'm getting at.

Just the way it is, the thunderbolt technically has a 1350 mAh stock battery.
I saw a thread on another site that says, if you recalibrate your battery once a month it will help... Full charge... Unplug.. reboot...3 times only has helped mine.... Now I Only loose 2-3% of battery per hr...

[Q] How is the battery life on your transformer

Post your battery usage on your transformer, and how much juice you are getting.
Mine looks like it's draining much.

I had 100% battery when I started using it last night at 4pm used it heavily from then until about 830, which included the firmware update and some angry birds and I was just under 50% by 10pm after 1.5hrs of standby. Didnt plug it in until i left for work after some browsing this morning andwas at 35% then. Hope that helps!
I have an ipad 2 and a transformer and par to par my ipad 2 last longer, but I love honeycomb and it's probably due to the fact that we have real background applications

For my first charge, I wanted to charge it up and then run it down until it died to calibrate the battery. It lasted a good two days, probably 9 hrs of pretty heavy use as I goofed with it constantly. It was hard to get it to finally die, I turned the brightness up all the way and kept it alive to kill the last 5%.
It was draining pretty quickly at first but it improved over time, specially after the first FOTA.
I've been using it on and off over the past 3 days and it has just over 40%.

I dunno. People are all over the road on this, so I'll just give you my opinion. I don't think that full discharge of lithium ion batteries is good for them. These aren't the old fashioned NiCd batteries where that was true. The more you use your lithium battery, the shorter it's life. There are people that say otherwise. That said, on an Android machine, I think that the battery calibration needs to see the full range of the battery to be accurate; and it is worth one full cycle to get things working. That's why I did it. I'm not recommending that anyone else do it, that's just what I did with mine.
I thought mine was draining fast at first but I'm on about 32 hours since it was plugged in to get its full charge. Of that a solid 3 to 4 hours of use easy. Currently at 19%

Wouldn't it take a couple of discharges and recharges before the battery gets conditioned?
The other day it was on 100% brightness and light usage I think I got 6 hours out of it. 5 hours in use I'd say. Max brightness and touch intensive stuff like angry birds and playing w/ it FWIW. I'm sure at a lower brightness you could get close to the 9 hour battery life. On the other hand before work I unplugged it at 100% and it sat in a 40 degree car from 7:00am to 5:00 pm and only fell down to 94%.
Asus does recommend a series of full discharges and then basically keeping it topped off from then.
I've been using it almost non stop since 8:00 pm, when it was fully charged. Now, it is 3:00 AM, and at 42% battery life. If it keeps going at this rate, I should have over 10 hrs of battery life. It is on auto brightness. I've been using it to study pdf powerpoint slides, playing some angry birds, and surfing the net with firefox. During the longer studying sessions, I used airplane mode. That probably saved battery life.
I left my transformer fully charged last night and turned it back on this morning to find the charge at 55%.
Didn't seem to be any background apps running that could have accounted for the charge drop, though my wifi was stuck off requiring a reboot to turn it back on.
Anyone else with similar experiences?

I am having the same issue. Last night I had 42% when I put it in sleep mode. This morning tried taking it out of sleep mode and the tablet reboot some time last night Weird. When it came back on it was down to 22%. Dont know but I am getting horrible battery life. Started using it at 10pm last night and by 1 am it was at 45%. Had on auto brightness All I did was surf, and stream music from my server. Maybe I need to drain it down tonight......

That shouldn't happen. Maybe try turning airplane mode on before you go to sleep? Or maybe you need a task manager?
Attached an image of my battery life. I definitely got around 11 hours on one charge.
As for recharging, it seems to recharge to full in 2-3 hours.
I'm finding that during actual use, my TF is doing about as well as my Xoom. However, the Xoom is using MUCH less battery while on standby. Where the TF is burning around 2.5-3%/hour on standby, the Xoom burns <1% on standby.
I'm still on the original build (i.e., haven't had a single update applied) and as noted earlier in the thread some things might have been optimized. And, I'm still burning on average around 3.5%/hour, so that still translates to over 25 hours battery life. Not as good as the Xoom but still pretty decent.
If it gets a little better in standby after an update, though, I won't complain.
I got 9 hours 34 minutes of CONSTANT use. For 4 hours straight I was running a flash application constantly.
I'm doing my second batter run down right now with normal usage.
When mine worked, I used it for nearly 2 hours straight on wifi with the screen on Auto, playing games and browsing the web. It drained 20% extrapolating such I'm getting the 9.5 hours of constant use WITH games. I was pleased until my screen failed on me
When you all drain the battery, are you taking it all the way till it powers itself off or plugging in at a low power state?
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Premium App
i don't have exact times but on my first charge it drained fairly quickly and was below 15% in maybe 36 hrs? with my xoom the first charge lasted 5 days! so in comparison as of right now the xoom had better battery life, but people are saying it gets better so we'll see. i don't mean this as a complaint at all because it doesn't bother me to charge it and i love this tablet. just something i have noticed.
i might add that these times i have given are just browsing, using a few apps and games, but no movies are anything.
aftre seeing a couple other posts in this thread it seems the xoom may just be getting much better standby time.

Battery drains unusually fast while screen off?

Last night before I went to sleep the battery was around 94% after an hour of solid use from a full charge.
I woke up today about 9 hours later and the battery was at 55%. It's been about two hours since then and I'm all the way down to 30% with only about 20-30 minutes of solid use.
What's up with that? Any ideas as to what I can do to fix it?

-Battery calibration, basically drain to 0%, then back to 100% on single charge.
-Try custom rom
-Might be radio, try flashing different found in development thread
-app or widget installed recently?
-look in battery use under settings menu to find what is eating up battery consumption, in your case likely something via cpu consumption (ie not display use)
What is your current set-up?
Check out battery drain threads in general section.
I'm working on battery calibration right now, this is my first day with the phone (I got it about 24hrs ago, actually). I'm gonna let it die then charge it to full.
I'm on a custom ROM right now, QuickWiz v1.0.3. It's blazing fast, no cool features though. I miss my CM7 that I had on my Inspire but the CM7 alpha was a bit too buggy for me.
I'll check into flashing some other radios in a few and I suppose it could be the weather widget I installed. I'll check that and see if it's syncing too often or something.
That's the funniest part. I just looked and I have 1h51m of screen on time (Mostly around 35% brightness, give or take a bit) and it's taking the majority of my battery at 31%. Right under it is Dolphin Browser HD at 13%. I might just swap to another browser, any recommendations? Last under that is the Android OS at 12%, then everything else is under 10% - Cell Standby, Speed Test, Market, then down to 5% which shouldn't matter.
are you using a cpu governor such as system tuner or setCpu? if you are OC'd, id suggest also cpuSpy to determine how long your device is in each state(clock speed)
I am OC'd. i have a setcpu profile for screen off that cuts it down to ~54/400MHz when the screen is off, set to conservative as well.
Hmm, if I had to guess, check the radio. I've had the problem before. As far as browsers go, I like Dolphin HD, just make sure you completely exit out of it when not using, otherwise it can be a resource hog on idle. Since you haven't had the phone long, reflash your rom of choice too if you get such a drive, that has fixed battery issues for me also.
I love my battery life using TPC's ROM with DaG's kernal. I'm also using TPC's CPU zip to govern and set CPU speeds 192-1782MZ without the use of third party programs. Some see zero battery loss when idle over night. I lose maybe 5%.

I installed a new radio with 8% battery left before I went to a birthday dinner. That 8% lasted me through light to moderate use at the dinner for about an hour and a half before, and I got back with 3% remaining.
I also froze a bunch of bloatware which could have also been taxing my battery. I'll wait another few days of use before I flash any other ROM's/Radios to make sure I'm not happy with the battery life and past that, I guess I'll just have to return it for a new battery or an LG Nitro HD instead, if the dev scene starts to pop up for that phone.
Can you link me directly to the CPU script zip?
what was the radio???

Is this really as good as my battery life can get?

I recently got a Sensation, flashed Inquisition, Sense Faux Kernel, undervolted about -50 to -75, and bought an 1900mA Anker battery, and after a few days my battery life can last almost the entire day. For example, yesterday it lasted 13 and a half hours with 2 hours and 30 mins display on (which was about 70% of total battery usage. I have brightness at about 40%. What really gets to me is how the battery drains really fast once it hits 20% or so.
I've attached my battery usage from being unplugged for a few hours.
try bricked kernel. it using 25mA when in sleeping mode no need of any apps

I used to have the same issues earlier.
The fast draining from 20% is because of
Improper battery calibration which needs some time to asjust(it took 6 cycles for me).this I can confirm you because once my phone switches off because of no power left and when I plug on the charger the battery percentage goes upto 15% in just 1 min also this fast 20% drain is always attributed with last longing 100% change ( I mean battery stays at 100% even you've used your phone like for 30min with screen on all the time)

I flashed Bricked kernel last night and unplugged my phone at 4am. Currently, after being on battery for 6 hours 48 mins my battery is down to 57% with only 15mins of actual use/display on...I have system tuner and battery widget and can provide logs if anyone would like to further assist me in pinpointing why my battery sucks.
Is there an app or process keeping your phone awake or using CPU in the background? System Tuner Pro can help you diagnose this.
Also, try a clean install of your rom, stick with stock kernel and check. Re-download your apps one by one from market, checking for a few hours after each.
It should be possible to get standby drain of 1-2% ans 1.5-2 days battery with moderate use I do.

[Q] What is the max and min voltage for the battery?

I am waiting for the OTA update before I root my HOX but I am still trying to calibrate the battery now. I disabled fastboot and I'm running JuiceDefender Ultimate.
When the battery reads at below 5% the voltage is around 3570mV. At 100% I'm reading a voltage of around 4185mV. Is this normal? What sort of min and max voltage readings should I be seeing?
I'm getting approx 12hrs (3:45 hrs screen time) before charging (that's with running Shadow Galaxy live wallpaper, and watching a 2hr movie on MX Video Player)
Thanks in advance.
The phone uses less battery because its turned down or off features such as syncing also with li-poly batteries as they drain their voltages dies down with it. Normally is a Mv in difference. Like with an electric car or RC car when the battery is lower than 5% they too slow down. The amperage pretty much goes out the window.
But for the phone HTC has a pretty insane battery management system, its normal. At 15& the iPhone mv would dropped about a whole volt as well.
