by default it does not have an option to send to voice mail (like on HTC phones) but there may be an app out there that would add this function. If not your carrier should be able to block them

That is really strange, on the Acclaim if you hit menu while editing a contact and hit options you could direct calls directly to voicemail. Must be something with the TW Contacts app, I'd imagine if you installed the AOSP contacts(if its possible) you could do what your asking.

Try this app for number blocking Adanced Call Blocker their is a free and paid verison.

call filter app
call filter app has a kind of calculator looking icon.works great.

call firewall

Is there any apps like "magicall" in WM to block unwanted calls(not forward to voicemail, but just mute the phone)?many apps in android just forward the calls to voicemail.
thx
afirewall is the name
what version of android are you using/device do you own?
IIRC, android v2.1 (eclair) has a call firewall built-in under Settings > Call Settings > All Calls > Auto Reject and check "Enable Auto Reject" then add your blacklisted phone numbers to the "Auto Reject List"
i've just been using that with my Android 2.1 based Samsung Vibrant since i got it instead of buying a call blocker/firewall app like i had with my HD2.
i have no idea if it blocks the calls or if they just get forwarded to VM... i have Google Voice, so the numbers i have blacklisted, i block in Voice too. therefore, if a blacklisted caller does get dumped off to my VM, i can block the number in Google Voice and they end up receiving a custom recording of the "this number has been disconnected" message before the call is then disconnected.
numbers you have blocked in Google Voice hear a custom message of your choosing and you can also set it to not receive messages just from blocked numbers.

IIRC, the free version doesnt block/reject calls by quickly answering and hanging up; they all get sent to voicemail and the only way to stop VM's with it is to turn off VM completely. you have to buy the paid version to get call rejection, amongst other features.
but like i said, this is just what i recall from my experience with it... maybe the free version was given more features, including call rejection?

i dont think this will fit the OP's requirements, as he clearly stated that he doesnt want one that just dumps the caller off to VM.
directly from aFirewall's android market page:
"This is aFirewall's free version.
Warning: The blocked call will forward to voicemail if voicemail is enabled.
aForewall allows you to configure multi-scenes to block different call or SMS at different time 1. Support to block unknown and private call.
Version 1.9.6 330KB"
to purchase, there is no app in the market, but you have to go to the developer's page to donate with Paypal or you can also likely do it from within the app.
i know one simply and well done, works greate app, it's called Easy Filter, it's on Official Market....
Use mr number. It has a pick up/hang up option that DOES NOT send call(er)s to voicemail. I use it myself.

Real call blocker?

Every blocker ive tried just hangs up after connecting. But I have urgent need of an actual call blocker that will send straight to voicemail or an app that will block all voice calls as if the phone is off.
Also, is there a way to block voice but keep SMS?
Thanks in advance.

Th only one which is working perfct for me including the feature you are asking is CallFilter Pro. Try the free version first to check.
Yep, the two best ones are made by the same company:
Root Call Blocker (for general use):
https://market.android.com/details?id=fahrbot.apps.rootcallblocker.beta
Call Master (for advanced users):
https://market.android.com/details?id=fahrbot.apps.blacklist
These are the only blockers that completely block everything without turning the screen on. Need to be rooted though.

Android App to Block Unknown Callers?

So I keep getting calls from auto-dialers coming as "Unknown" on Caller ID.. I answer and it's that 5 second delay then someone in a foreign country asking me to sign up for a newspaper or refinance. I want to ELIMINATE these calls. I have a block list that works good in Android, but it doesn't allow me to ass Unknown to blocked calls... I saw some posts from several years back, but nothing recent. Is there anything good out there today that I can install to block unknown\unavailable calls from coming through to my phone?
Thanks!

Yeah I saw that but the screen still flashes on and shows the missed call, even when I click delete it from call log. I wish there was one what didn't even process the call, like the built in blocker.
This should be an advanced feature of Google Voice as well. Anyone been getting calls from 0000123456 recently? Haven't been able to pick up yet, but I have missed two calls from this number now. Saw somewhere it might be skype caller. Wonder what could be done by porting Asterik into the Android kernel and having some nifty virtual PBX features built in!

The one that drives me nuts is the calls from Indian telemarketers.... US telemarketers are required by law to send ANI with their calls, but calls coming from outside the US don't have to comply, or aren't able to be enforced. I say if someone doesn't present their #, I ought to be able to reject them from getting through to my phone.
We in India are also facing major trouble with telemarketing calls & after being put to notice by the supreme court they have now started sending text sms, the best defense I have found against this is "Extreme Call Blocker Droid" this can block all private numbers or you can specify a list of starting numbers eg. block all numbers starting with 800
*Hangup mode block voice mail
*Block anonymous/private/unknown/blacklist calls
*Block unknown/blacklist SMS,
*Built-in private SMS mail box hide private txt msg
*Schedule on Google calendar to decide when to block.
*Hide private number calls in/out, no call log.
http://www.appbrain.com/app/extreme-call-blocker-droid/com.greythinker.punchback
You can customize it to your hearts content & have a peace full day.
To trace the callers we have a site in India which you can use for tracking all kinds of numbers & text IDs.
http://www.indiatrace.com/index.php
then there are free apps too like blacklist-free & many other with similar features.
http://www.appbrain.com/app/blacklist-free/vc.software.blacklist
The one I use is called Easy Filter Call blocker. It can block calls and sms messages, including unknown numbers. You can set it to block them without notifying you if you want it to.

Block unknown Callers
You can block unknown callers by using some advanced phones.
in these phones you can either blacklist some selected numbers or reject all unknown mobile numbers (numbers which are not added in your SIM / phone's phonebook will get rejected).
Root call blocker pro. Its in the market.. Works great and doesnt show the caller, it just rejects it right away in the background and you can have notification of when calls are blocked. Also has sms block

[Q] Call Blocker Apps

Hi,
I'm looking for a Call Blocker App that can block all calls except from contacts I put in a Whitelist and that blocks
the call before the call connects/rings from the caller side.
There are many Call Blocker Apps on the Play Store that can block all calls except from contacts in a Whitelist, but
all the ones I've tried so far connect/ring before the call is disconnected, so the caller can here the phone ring/connect before the App
rejects/disconnects it, therefore the caller can workout that the call has been blocked/rejected.
I'm from the UK and have a stock/un-rooted Samsung Galaxy S6 running Android 5.0.2, so I'm looking for an App that doesn't require my phone to be rooted.
Thanks for you time...

I have been using Call Control from Kedlin Company for past 2 years. It works great for both call/SMS blocking with both Black and White Lists. Try it. You can find it at Play Store.

Thanks, I've already found that option, but the problem is that it just silences the call rather than disconnects it.

Is there a dialer app that can natively reject/block unwanted calls on a G3?

Actually, the default dialer will do that already but it's not called call block or anything like that... well, sort of... Open your Contacts app, find the contact you want to block and open it, then clock Edit (pencil icon), then tap the 3 dots menu and tick "All calls to voicemail", this will send any call from that contact immediately to voicemail, which is what will happen if a caller is blocked at the phone level anyway.

So there is no true call block or reject in Android? By blocking, I mean no connection, no voicemail, no SMS or MMS. Maybe I was fooled by my old Gingerbread dialer.

Not to my knowledge... it would have to actually answer and disconnect to do that. The most likely case here is that it would send a reject message to the cellular provider when the call is presented to it, instead of a trying or ringing message, which would then route it to the default Call Foward No Answer point.
If you did not have voicemail, or had your call forwarding disabled, the call would get a busy signal, but you couldn't do that on a call by call basis.
You can use the new google dialer which come with that option, you can get it on apkmirror...
You can use truecaller. You can choose how calls are blocked. It blocks a list of spammers automatically.

I saw that when it came out, but never installed. Have you tried the new dialer? Can it coexist with the current dialer without any difficulty?
I assume you are referring to Google Phone 2.05.07_rc4, not Google Phone 3.00.04_rc4?

I know a little off topic, even though the two dialers work well alongside so far, the new dialer can not answer a call. So there is no way to answer a call if the original dialer is disabled.

The new Google Dialer provides a way to block calls. I laughed when I set up numbers to block, the app came back and said you still may receive voice messages. So pretty much the same as forwarding calls to voice mail as you originally implied.

I like what I read about True Caller. The only reason I hesitate., it is unclear to me how much privacy is released once I sign up. Even with Google it is a constant battle. One thing I did not like about the new dialer is it wanted to make my cell number discoverable to the web. And to turn that feature off was a deep dive into the Google Control Panel. So what does True Caller do with all my contacts?

For unknown callers it displays their names and if they are reported spam by other users it will automatically reject the call.
It doesn't do anything to your contacts.
If you call another truecaller user he will get to know who is calling.
