Brodit active holder for DHD - Desire HD Accessories

I haven't seen any posts for DHD in regards to this and since this barnd is the most advertised and most positive-commented, I'd like to add my negative comments so that everyone is aware.
First of all, before I bought it, I've read the best comments about it as being the best choice. For me, it was the worst product I could buy and at such a high price which cannot be explained. This is why:
1) Hard to slide in and once in its place, the phone is so firmly fixed in the holder that you need tools to remove it. I always end up fighting with it to get out and the result is that always the sim cover gets off and stays fixed in the holder. The sides of the phone also start showing wear/scratch signs. This is the most unacceptable problem for a priduct of that price.
2) The provided proclip (special mount for specific car model) for one of my cars doesn't stay fixed on my car. It is so long and so thin and its corners are so badly aligned that even the adhesives don't come in contact with the console plastic and each time I try to take my phone off the holder, the whole mount comes off. With my other car for which the mount is smaller, it's ok bad still unacceptable for the price I paid overall.
Having read this, don't buy this product.

Thats a pity; I've been using a generic suction-cup mount in my car but was planning on purchasing a Brodit as I'd had no problems with the previous one I had for my Touch Pro 2.
I had a similar problem with the car mount half of it; it was supposed to mount over the air vent but would 'slip-off' if you hit a bump on the road. I fixed this with a heat gun, bending the mount to give it a firmer grip.
If the Brodit mount is a bad idea for the Desire HD, can anyone recommend a better option for the car than a clunky generic plastic lump I've got attached to my windscreen?

I bought a Brodit Active Holder for my DHD and I've had no problems fitting and removing the phone from it. If anything, when I slot the phone into place, there is a bit of a gap between the bottom of the phone and the holder so you can see part of the cable connector has not fully gone into the phone. Still charges though, just looks a bit irritating.
Other than that Im pleased with it, no fit or removal problems whatsoever

Where have you bought it from? because I received a message today from the Swedish manufacturer who admit this as a problem with some of their stock.

Sorry to hear that, you were unlucky. I bought mine off eBay Uk last week. It was a Uk seller called drivesafeandlegal2. I dont have enough posts to post a link unfortunately. I done a search under 'brodit desire hd'
Free delivery and package arrived in a couple of days.

For those who bought the Brodit carholder and its to tide ( like antenna cover gets stuck) you can solve it.
Take sandpaper with a very tiny grain and start sanding the edges of the sides. Make the sharp edges round and sand it with some water so that the surface and edges gets smooth ( even more smooth then original).
After this is done you don't see a difference in color or you don't mess up your holder as long the sandpaper is a P400 or lower and apply water in the end.
Mine looks like new and phone slides in without pushing until it reach the usb port.
No fuss with antenna cover and much more safe scratching your phone.

Clingo Car Holder

I just bought this new car holder two weeks ago and I have to say it's awesome! I've had two car holders before this, one giant universal one that was ugly and broke really quick, and a SGS specific one bought off Ebay that scratched the backplate and was no good.
I saw this at a local store last week and decided to give it a try, it's a universal mount that holds using an adhesive pad, but the pad leaves no residue or stickyness on the phone it just holds the phone, and then when you pull it off it comes off. My phone has never fallen off and one time just for fun I tossed the phone at it lightly and it stuck, thats how sticky this thing is.
The best part is once it starts to lose its stickiness due to dust, skin etc you just rinse it out and start over again.

This is some pretty neat stuff!!!
Looks awesome.
Just bought one of eBay
I would like some more reviews for this it looks very interesting will it also hold with an invisibleshield attached to the back or is it slippy then? I don't want my phone to fall off while driving it could cause a lot of damage to my phone

I'd like to know how sticky the sticky bit is as the roads over here are atrocious, I don't really want to have to fish the phone out from under the pedals while doing 100kmh
I like the idea of these but i don't think i'd ever trust it to hold the phone properly
I have seen a video of someone going over speed bumps and the phone stayed attached but i'd rather go for something that i know would be sturdy due to the holder. Just my opinion.
Got mine the other day.
Where I'm living at the moment there is road crew everywhere screwing with the roads. Potholes raised bits in the road. Suffice to say the roads are f'ing terrible.
And this thing will not let go if it at all. After driving around for about half an hour it was actually quite difficult to get my phone off the holder.
Driving around there is very little vibration in the phone, all the joints in the holder are very firm without being a ***** to use.
Overall im very impressed
As an extra test, I just went on a 600km road trip on Monday and it held my phone the entire time, I love this thing
For those who don't believe in Clingo I must say that it takes me two hands to take my SGS off of it. It is STICKY.
When you remove the phone off the holder does it make the back of the phone all weird and sticky?
And will it stick to a phone case? the case has a smooth and a bit of rubbery feel to it
I bought one of these also and found it to be very good.
You just have to watch out for the bump on the bottom of the SGS in positioning the phone during sticking.
I had one of these for a while but have now switched to a holder that my SGS just slots into.
It doesn't leave any residue on the back of the phone. It doesn't work too well with leather cases as it likes a nice smooth surface for maximum attachment and a word of warning, it can lose some of its 'strength' if the sun is baking your car all day. Even in England where we just get ****e weather, last summer mine dropped off a couple of times whilst driving which is why I ditched it.
And one final tip, get a retractable car charger because you can then 'set the slack' in the cable so that it does not pull on the phone. Curly cords can cause the phone to work itself loose as they always try and retract into their original shape. Plus retractable chargers are neater too.
I use the i9000 specific one from Ebay (dealextreme actually). I've hacked it a bit:
- shortened the bit that goes over the phone so it will push less hard
- removed some sharp edges that could scratch the phone
- removed the bendy bit and glued the phone holder and suction parts together at a near-right angle
and most important of all:
- stuck a PU anti slip mat under the suction cup and cut to size (a tad larger than the original suction cup). Now the suction cup also sticks to the dashboard
Those PU mats are like the Clingo backside I suppose. But a lot less expensive. The grip is very good (too good?) as I wanted to remove it from the phone and I was afraid to pull off the back cover. I'm happy I only stick it to the dash

I dont have a case on my phone so I can't comment on that part.
But it does not leave any sort of residue at all. comes of perfectly clean.
Quick update (hope this doesn't count as necro posting) The holder got dusty, started losing its grip, I rinsed it off and the next morning when it was dry it was as sticky as it was when I first started using the holder. Much more time down the road and this is still a great holder.
I'm interessed in it also, but...
The hole of speaker sound, is not covered by clingo??
Because when i'm using satnav/GPS apps i need to listen, but if clingo is above the hole the sound doesn't come out...
Can someone say something about this, please...

All you would need to do is place it on the holder so that it isn't covering the speaker hole when you stick the phone to the clingo holder. You can stick it anywhere you want on the phone so it's only a matter of placement
Only caveat is that smooth/velvety materials don't stick well. My HTC EVO stock battery case doesn't stick for long, and the Seidio active innocase is too smooth to stick. Works great on a stock iPhone and my HTC Universal. Holds that one hard enough to pull the battery cover off!
My concern is will it rip off my invisible shield when I try to take it off the mount. I can see the adhesive pulling the film right off the back of my phone.
I've got this for my Samsung Galaxy S II, and it will almost *always* remove the battery cover due to its grip when trying to take the phone off. Good and bad

HTC Desire HD - Brodit Active Holder

Hi,
Not sure if this is the right place so mods please move or lock if inappropriate.
I have a one week old Brodit HTC Desire Active holder for sale on eBAY. I've changed the phone so no longer need it.
Stuck it on a buyitnow for £25. Purchased from mobilefun.co.uk for £35.
Thought someone might be interested in picking one up cheaper than elsewhere - it's as good as new (just don't have the fixing leaflet anymore)
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....27720&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT#ht_500wt_1156
"This listing () has been removed, or this item is not available."
Thanks for the feedback. Think something weird happened to the formatting of the url. I've edited the original post. Should work ok now.
cheers fella
now to get my proclip, just bought and paid topic can be locked now.
i presume its in good condition with it only being a week old
cheers again
Hi,
Thanks. Just replied to you through eBay.
Yes it's in as good as new condition. The only thing missing is the plastic bag it came in and the little leaflet which basically says "Screw these four screws in!"
Phone as only been in in two or three times. Just enough to loosen it up a tiny bit
Oh and I should point out that it can supply enough juice to charge properly whilst using as a Sat Nav with bluetooth turned on.
Enjoy..
just to say i got it and my review so far is as follows
beautiful fit
i have an invisible all over cover on, the phone fits with a little shove, but leaves the sim card cover behind when removing it
if it doesn't ease off with time and use i will file a smidge off
but overall im happy and it will fit with an invisible shield on
Does this car kit set 'Car Mode' when you insert the phone? I know the official adapter does.
No, the brodit holder does not trigger the car panel. Also, I think it is pretty tight on the phone. My sim cover slips down when I remove the phone from the holder, and it was driving me nuts until I sandpapered the sides.
Had one in the past for my HD2 and bought it another for the desire hd.
I personally RECOMMEND using the passive holder and buy a separate car charger. It worths because it's more handy for acessories and other cell phones. I had both, the active and the passive, and I find the passive more versatile.
the tight fit i had at the start is getting better, even with my zshield
the power plug needs guiding in sometimes, especially when i plug in my aux socket, i am going to look into a way of fixing the aux jack so it clips in when pushed down

Exogear Exomount (Universal Car Phone Holder)

I purchased one of these to hold my phone and was sick of changing mounts every time i got a new phone.
http://www.exogear.com/products-exomount-car-mount-holder.html
Its basically a normal suction mount with a little bit of a sticky surface that does not come off on anything. The DHD fits fine and i haven’t had it fly off or wobble as i am driving or turning (and yes i turn sharp at high speeds).
This is probably (apart from a proclip) one of the best universal mounts i have used. The proclip is my choice as its solid and fixed but requires work, this on the other hand is my second choice as i can stick it anywhere in my car and have it suck down without leaving a mark and not have to mess around changing clips.
Features:
•Exomount’s patented suction technology enables you to mount on almost any flat surface such as car dashes, glass, wood, metal,
plastics and even drywall!
•Polyurethane lined grip keeps your phone or GPS safe and secure
•Quickly and easily mount and unmount your phone or GPS with our stylish clip grip holder
•Mounts all smart phones and GPS devices up to 5-inch screens
•Multi-angle rotation for your preferred viewing angle
cheers for the thread
does anyone use this with an otterbox (or similar) case? I'm thinking of buying one of these as there is zero options available for a DHD with a case
also any issues with the patented stick technology or whatever its called becoming not so grippy after x weeks/months?
Try slipgrip mounts for otterbox cases. You can find it on ebay also.

Non mine is still sticky now, i don’t think it is supposed to be super sticky as the gel and stick i think improves the suction. I just purchased another because they are pretty good and it doesnt need to be on a flat surface to work at all.
I've read that vibration might be an issue... we have very bumpy roads where I'm at so I wouldn't like it to be all over the place...
Any further info about this please?

I think there is a video review which says this but i have tried this on a Samsung Galaxy S2, Iphone4,Desire HD and Sensation and it is perfectly fine on bumpy roads. The clamp is strong enough to hold it. You will get the same jigger on say a tomtom or any other mount.
The reason why the clamp is the size it is, so when holding onto phones it doesnt press any buttons on the side of the phone.
Quality isnt that bad for its price and i would think its the best universal mount i have used in a car, i have used many mounts but this one has lasted the longest and seems very promising.
You can even rotate it and mount a tablet in your car!
I have ordered mine from eBay.. will post report as soon as I receive the delivery...
Sent from my Desire HD
I'm a new user of it too, and love it !
Question for you:
Since my dash is not completely straight so I can't put it there (even so it lasts about 1 day), I'm putting it on the windshield, but the arm is so short that I can't find a good place for it.
I put it meanwhile just a lil bit below the mirror, but on a way that the top of the phone is kinda behind the mirror, otherwise its too far and too hard to reach it.
I tried many other places but none was good enough.
Its or too far or blocking the road.. :\
Where do you put it? and where do you suggest me to put?
Thanks,
Yarden.
what a piece of junk! i tried it last night and couldn't find ANY spots in my car (newish 2004) where it would stick! I haven't tried the windshield yet. It literally would stay in place a few seconds then fall. did anyone else get this? perghaps i installed it wrong. is it just a case of taking the white ring protector off the stick part then putting on a surface? or did i not do something?
I wonder how safe this would be if mounted on dash and you break suddenly.

Try Herbert Richter universal mounts if you're still after an option to use with otterbox case.
I've had mine for several weeks now.
It sticks everywhere.
I use mine with a Otterbox Commuter Case and it fits well.
Vibration is a small issue, though.
the Herbert Richter universal mounts is bulky with the arm, the exo gear mount is good btu if the clamp had a few extras to secure it better it would be 10/10

yes. take the white protector bit off, its that sticky bit that helps it stay stuck to the surface, im surprised the suction bit worked at all with that thing still on lol

The quality feels like it is kinda flimsy, but after using it, it feels tough.. i used to be kinda careful with it but these days i just grab and twist it and it definitely doesn't feel like it's gonna fall apart.
The ball bit that it rotates on did get a bit dirty on mine and it got quite hard to rotate it, but just clean the bit of it you can see (no need to take apart) and then it should be all good again. That's only happened once to me, and i literally just wiped with a dry finger and wiggled it about a bit and its fine again.
I was JUUUUST about to buy one, but because I live in Australia, shipping + handling is $49 alone!
Does anyone recommend any other mounts, without the massive shipping charge?
Apart from ebay cheapies.

I do not mind if you send me cash paypal etc to handle the purchase and shipping for you? If you like i can weigh the actual device (without packaging) which will make it cheaper and price up on royalmail web site air mail signed for etc?
Got one of those
I got the exogear holder about a month ago, and i can recommend it to anyone.
Sticks nice to many surfaces, the phone is not slipping down, can be used with a phone of any size (or a gps device)
The only down side is that you have to use both hands to place your phone into the holder.
so it holds the note fine ?

Car holder

Please advice car holder which can be fixed on top of dashboard. Sorry my poor english&
There is an official htc one, but it's pretty expensive.
If I were you, I would look at some that can take multiple sizes of phones - a 'general purpose' one, something like this:

Hello,
I use this cheapo ebay car holder.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Windscreen-...ers_Mounts&hash=item35bc53e036#ht_2351wt_1270
Althought it's meant to be mount on windshield, it's still good phone holder. My desire S has never fallen off it. Also in the beginning i put random cushions to it to not scratch my phone because it's only plastic. After time they fell off. No single scratch on my phone.

I use this holder: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00R0MELU6?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00
It is not made specifically for the Z5C. And the one major drawback for some people is that you have to put a permanent metal plate on the back of your phone. For that reason, I have added a Balolo wooden back. The metal plate is attached to the wood, allowing me to remove the plate (actually, the wood) without damage to the phone. The Mountek advertising says you can simply put the unattached metal plate between the phone and a typical case. However, with a previous phone I found that there's just enough movement of the metal to scratch the back of the phone, so I don't recommend that approach.
This is not the perfect answer, but after trying many different car phone holders I have been most satisfied with the Mountek. The magnet does a super job, even on the back country roads in Costa Rica. Mountek is planning to release an air vent version by the end of December, if the CD version doesn't work for you (or you use your CD player).
Hope this helps.

I'm using this: http://www.amazon.com/Breffo-Spiderpodium-Smartphone-Mount-Holder/dp/B003O1V5CY
I've bent the two of the arms to hook into an air vent and then bent the remaining six with 2 on the bottom and 4 on the sides. I've bent them in a way where I can mount the phone vertically and horizontally. When mounted vertically, the microUSB power cable plugs in nicely between the two legs.

Hello, I've came across this solution as well, how long have you had this product and how durable are the flexible 'legs'?
I shied away from it as I saw a couple of negative reviews stating that the 'legs' broke off just after a few uses.
Cheers!
I've had this setup for a couple years now with no issues. I don't really mess with it once it's in place. I do occasionally bend everything to make a stand so I can record time lapse recordings of my drives.

I use the Orzly bumper case which didnt quite fit. I sent him the case and the guy made a new mold for me which now fits. I think each one is made by hand by order. So if you do order, I'd email them first with what case you are using. They may offer to make one for you if you send them the case.
You can use also a original Nokia car holder cr-122 for the old Nokia N8-00. Is perfect to use for all Compact series with or without case (I'm using also with Puro 0.3 and Orzly fusion).
In my case I've customized the holder to attach to Brodit Proclip specific adapter for my car

I am (again) very happy with this brodit mount: http://www.brodit.com/product.html?id=521797&pn=prod&brand=Sony&model=Xperia Z5 Compact
Not necessary to attach the charging cable to the mounted phone is very nice. And the brodit fits perfectly (without any case).
I have been using a number of different car holders from cheap to rather expensive stuff (not just for Z5C)
and until now the best working for me is this universal
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-C...hash=item3f6716f952:m:mIwx2zz-h8VTQe568OmV9tA
It solves the problem when phone placed behind the front screen gets warm by sun and you need to charge it at the same time.
Air vent does the cooling and the problem is gone.

I love the Kenu Airframe design, and it's worked in every car I've tried too. Very compact design that sticks into air vents and grips the sides of the phone (right above the power button is ideal). Also note that there are knock off cheap versions that you can find, such as from Deal Extreme, that seem to work just as well, at least with our compact phones
I only use a cardboard attached to the air vents up the radio. haha~ I'll post a picture sometime.
Is there anybody out there who has their Z5 Compact wrapped in a full body skin (wet apply type) who also has the Proclip mount for the Z5c, and can verify that the phone fits in the mount with the skin installed?
This turned out to be a real problem for me with my Nexus 4...the Proclip mold was not made with a millimeter to spare, and the tolerances were such that it had NO tolerance for anything but a completely naked phone. Hoping I can avoid a similar problem with the Z5c.
Thanks,
-- Nathan

Has anyone lucked out and managed to find a car holder for the Z5C?

I have a mount that works awesome from my car. I paid $3 and waited for 1 month for delivery.

If you are willing to be patient the cost of the car mounts on aliexpress are very cheap, you have very similar options that you see here on the thread.
I use this one:

Love it! The magnet is very strong and it's easy adjustable.
