[Q] phone wipe program - Android Apps and Games

Hello all, very good forum.
i'm new to the android world, looking for a program where i can use when i lose my phone.
in WM there is a software you install on your phone and when you lose it, simply send SMS message with password and a special code that will erase all your personal information
is there something similar for android.

lookout does that.....all u do is log into a page and select that option

thank you for the quick reply, does this program require subscribtion to a website or a service provider?
prefer a program for that dont need any third party

Lookout requires a premium account for the remote wipe feature (so subscription and monthly/yearly fee). You can try the app Autowipe. It hasn't been updated in a while, but it's supposed to do what you want (I haven't tried it yet). And it only works with Froyo I believe.

This is one of the thousands of things you can do with an app called Tasker. It is maybe $6 and no other fees.
My last Intruder was a Grumman A-6E.

Interesting. How do you set this up with Tasker? Do you need to install some other program to do the actual wipe function or are you doing it through the Delete File/Directories commands? How do you get it to delete your data directory (I can only select files/directories from the sdcard)?

I'd like to know how to do it with tasker also. I'd rather not install avg

personally, i found that autowipe is much better solution, it has all the features needed for the job and above all FREE.

If you check your work Exchange server email on your personal device you do a remote wipe yourself via OWA.

How To Disable Exchange Security Policy FROYO!!

Found a way around the enforcement of The Exchange security policy on FROYO (ROOT USERS ONLY), at least until lockpicker gets FROYO support.
You need to unzip and install the attached APK. It will give you an extra mail application on the phone (The Saphire, White envelope, and Gold Message popping out icon), but you can remove the stock one if you have some knowhow, or just delete your account from the stock one.
I take no credit for this. Original work done by raidzero at http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...onal-froyo-bypass-exchange-server-policy.html

I downloaded the zip file but I am new to rooting and not quite sure how to apply this zip to my phone... do i copy to root of sd card and boot into bootloader and apply it that way via recovery? or can i run the zip from the phone on normal boot.

You have to extract the apk from the zip file, and then just install the apk from a file manager program like estrongs or astro. You do not need to use recovery or the bootloader for this at all. I probably should gave just posted the apk, without zipping it up to avoid confusion but i didn't.
I have been hit with this ridiculous security policy too, my IT admin guy just shrugs his shoulders, and it doesn't seem to hit iPhones (which are hopeless for security anyway?).
So when I install .apk, do I then need to migrate my Exchange account to a new mail application?
I have a rooted phone, is there any way to just disable Exchange security policy? It even allows 'login attempts' to my device to be 'monitored', get stuffed, I'm not having that.

Not that I know of yet. Uninstall native email app. Use titanium bu. Clear security. Reboot. Install this one.

What is this app and how does it work? Is it a hacked native email app? Also, silly question perhaps, how do we know it's safe to use?
Native email ap, modded. Aosp, not sense. Click the link to original post in first thread for more info. I use this exclusively anytime I flash a new 2.2 rom.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
How was it modded, is the native app open source?
How are you all going with this? I'm thinking of installing it. Does it still pull in and integrate the work calendar and contacts?
Yep, but non-sense style...

C'mon....Just give it a try already if you're interested. Don't delete the stock mail app just yet, but delete your credentials, and remove your security (password). Then install this one, see if you like it. I honestly don't remember if it syncs calender with with sense (but I don't think it does). Don't use sense. It is not a Sense app. Its AOSP-like.
Nothing to lose by trying it.
Yeah ok I'll give it a shot.. There are several versions of this app flying around in various threads, is the link in this thread the one to use?
All seem the same to me. Could be mult authors/modders though. I just found on another forum and posted it here.

Sweet... working!
How can I get the email widget for unread message count? It does come with it.

It depends. Is it a sense widget you're talking about? If so, this will not work. This is the native android email application, not the Sense version. As such, the Sense widget cannot "talk" to this application. There may be a widget on the market for that though.
Beautiful...works great. I can't begin to express how much this helps me out. Any way to change the colors in the email app?
Muchas Gracias
FYI..i'm a noob
Sigh, still getting connection errors when trying to d/l attachments >1MB in size. Otherwise it works fine.

[Q] suggested app for remotely tracking/locking/wiping phone

Just wondering what app people suggest for being able to remotely find a lost phone and lock/wipe the lost phone?
The only one i know of is wavesecure - I haven't given it a try yet. Just wondering if there's anything else out there i should look at besides wavesecure.
Something like androidwebkey would also be cool, except it generates a random password each time it's started, which i would need to know ahead of time before being able to use it. Plus it doesn't hide itself so if the phone were stolen, someone might realize it's being tracked.
If not something that gives me stealth remote control of the phone, then something that will stealthily give me it's location and the ability to lock/wipe it. As a bonus, being able to use one of the two cameras (evo) to snap a pic or vid/audio of what's going on would be a nice bonus.
thanks
Anyone? is wavesecure the only one?
Lookout is good and it's free
thanks - definitely not bad for the price Although i can't find the option to remotely wipe the phone even though their site says you can do that. The locate function seems to work - i haven't tried the 'scream' function yet, probably should wait until i'm out of the office to try that
i jus downloaded norton......im about to try it out now! its in the app market free beta version

Try Super Security
I think this app is a good option for the purpose mentioned. It has a set of utilities including Strongbox (where you can password protect files. Also there is an option for "missing device"- Here you can set a lock pin and unlock pin for your mobile. You can lock your mobile through 'sms'ing the lock pin as soon as you lost it. Then it will show a custom message like "return this mobile to X, contact in this number...." Only after you give the already fed unlock pin can your mobile be unlocked. This app also is a task killer and has a scanner to suggest problamatic software.
I wonder if there's something i am doing wrong. Both norton and super security fail to lock the device when i send a txt message.
With super security, the text message is just the PIN i picked to lock the phone, correct?
I sent a txt message via email to myphone#@messaging.sprintpcs.com
I got the txt message, but nothing happened as far as locking the phone goes.
I like Remote Wipe & SIM Checker. I also move both to the /system/apps directory so even a wipe won't remove the apps.

[REQUEST] Text App that doesn't sell info

Is there a text app that allows for different 'themes' that doesn't harvest your information and sell it ala GO SMS, Handscent or Chomp?
what makes you think those apps sell your information?

I've seen this mentioned about GoLauncherEx as well (maybe mentioned by same OP?). Would be nice to know if there's any truth to these allegations.

I was looking at the permissions for the apps & sent an email to the developer claiming I was interested in downloading the apps if some of the permissions could be explained to me. I mentioned the data-mining rumours (probably shouldn't have). Anyway, I never got a response back & I sent the email like 2 weeks ago.
I don't think the information sent is actually identifiable info, just search patterns & browser history stuff that's helpful in marketing. That doesn't make it right, though. If you're rooted, download DroidWall via the Market then download the app you want to use. Turn off your internet connection if it makes you feel better, then open DroidWall & deny 3g and WiFi internet access to the app. Be sure to tap menu & apply rules. Then you can turn 3g or wifi back on & run the app without worrying about info being sent. The sms app will not be able to download mms, so you'll need to use the stock app for that.

According to the info in the GO SMS thread this is exactly how they make their money (all three major programs), so I won't use them. I pay for all the apps I use, if there's a free version I don't use it, I pay for the full, because I believe in supporting developers, but not to the point where they're using and selling my information. I really don't care what the info is, it's mine, and I'll decide if anyone is going to make money off of it.

[APP] a! Commands (Anti-Theft commands for avast!)

Don't learn all Anti-Theft avast! Free mobile Security commands by heart!
Use a! Commands to generate Anti-Theft SMS Commands for you. The interface allows you to browse through all commands easily and fast.
For security reasons, no personal data is stored in the application. To clear the data (phone number, password), close the application from the menu with the Exit button. Application will remove the data by itself once it gets killed by Android.
Example: If your phone gets stolen, just use your friends's Android powered phone and a! Commands to easily locate, lock or wipe your phone!
Avast! Free mobile Security must be preinstalled on the targeted phone.
We are not affiliated with, and this is not an official application from avast software.
This is a free application! Hope you enjoy it.
If anyone would like to translate it to their own language, please let me know in PM.

Thanks! If you have any feature requests or improvements in your mind, please let me know. We care about users feedback.
Nice handy app. Thanks for taking the time to put this together. I'd also advise users of avast to make a paper copy of at least a few important commands other than LOST or FOUND and keep them in their wallet or purse, or somewhere handy. I made myself a complete list and carry on me at all times. You never know when you're going to need them and asking a friend to install your app might not be feasible at the moment you need those commands.
Sent from my ADR6350
That is the main reason, why I put this app together. I don't want to carry avast commands on a piece of paper in my wallet.
there's only one problem with your app, it's only for android. if i lost my phone, my friend can't use this app because he has an iphone. some of my friends don't even have a smart phone yet because these devices scare them. for me, a paper copy in the pocket is infinitely more handy. not trying to troll, just saying a! commands has limited usage, especially after the phone is already lost and your android friends aren't available. paper can activate avast from any mobile phone and even google voice.

I agree, it's just one of many options how to send a command to your lost phone. But if you can use a! commands, it is a very good option.
I was thinking about making something like this, but then I did a google search and found this
Can you add a way to choose the number to send the command to, from the phonebook ? Most of my friends have my number, and I tend to forget it

There seems to be a problem with htc devices with sense on them. Phone number doesn't get from phone book to text field. If any of you have sense installed (or other) and problem, please let me know.
I'm running CM7 on both devices I have. Both seem to be working.
Some commands however don't work.
GET INBOX SMS, they return an error
ERROR: Please give a limit for your query.
I had the limit entered in the Options field. BTW sending this command by hand does work. I didn't try the other commands which need an extra parameter between the password and the command, but I guess they all fail...

Nevermind, I finally got it
Ok. Sorry for the delayed response. I am working on other projects right now.

[App request] systemwide data corruption app (security)

Hi guys,
I'm only asking for this app due to a massive security breach of my emails and Facebook account after my phone got stolen at a cinema. The app requested is a security app which the person can set the app to have 3 people's handphone numbers which they would receive a specific code and instruction (e.g. 123456destroy) which would corrupt all data inside the phone and trigger a hard brick. The app should be factory reset proof
Sorry if I sound a bit too demanding but I'm still very worked up.........yep.
there r anti-theft apps with data wipe option, isn't that enough?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA
Look man
They stole my phone
I'm gonna give them sh*t
The system corruption prevents them from selling it.
I'm sorry for your loss.
And what would happen if someone you sent the code to activated it for a really **** joke? Personally, I think it'd be better if you could activate the app when you download/install it then brick the device via a website yourself to save complications.
Sorry to hear you lost your phone though
Sent from my GT-I9100
no the whole point is that you don't tell anyone except yourself the code until you lose your phone
here are programs/ apps (e.g. airdroid) which can access your device as long as it is connected to a cellular or broadband network or internet portal. With airdroid, for instance, you can install apps, screw with files, and do whatever you could from the device remotely. Just a thought.
