Have to say goodbye fellas - Captivate General

I hate to say this but... i went back to my 3GS. The captivate's battery life was awful... and the lag ....and sometimes you press a button and nothing happens... GPS...was just all too frustrating. Mostly the battery life. I really wanted to love this phone. I raved about it to other people.
It turns out I had an extended warranty on my 3GS so I took my old 3GS to the apple store and said it has some issue and they replaced it ASAP. So, I now have a new 3GS. Man I tell you its good to be back. The Apple UI is so responsive.. Its just a more polished system all together. Also I decided to go back because of gaming and Netflix.
The new 4G HTC phone Aspire for AT&T (or Inspire or something like that) looks really good. My wife has the HTC EVO on sprint and it doesn't have the issues that the captivate had. Samsung made an awesome try.. GREAT hardware and BEST screen in the market for sure... but the working with the software is just not there yet.
I'll wait for either the HTC Aspire or the the iPhone 5 (actually I think it will be called 4G). I won't buy Samsung again for a looooooooon time.

I will never understand these threads. If you were a dev I might understand...being on my phone means I canteen report to have locked. Enjoy your 3gs as it seems that is what you really want.
This is my Captivate. There are many like it but this one is mine.

The battery life gets much better if you do a few tweaks and mods.
As for the lag, flashing a custom ROM with a lagfix makes a world of difference and is easily on par with the responsiveness of iOS.
Anyway, good luck with your 3GS, if that's what you prefer.

The iphone sounds perfect for you. It requires no effort or desire to tweak. It performs well out if the box, will never improve, and looks and behaves like every other iphone. Enjoy

Glad you got one over on the Apple store.
Baaaah!

I agree totally. I am on a new dell streak and easily get 2 days of battery use, no need for a tweaked rom, and a working gps.
The only reason I come to this forum now is to see if official froyo was released so I can maybe give my wife the craptivate.

Why would I need two days of battery life? Are outlets not available in your neck of the woods?
And I think maybe you miss the point, loading custom roms is a good thing, not a burden

Little story about the MT4G and the Nexus S

I had for two months a MT4G and first I hated it because it was so different. I came from a Nexus One with Stock Froyo and Sense UI was overwhelming me. After 2 months I really appreciated all the small nice features that HTC integrated that stock android never had. Additionally, the MT4G is a great, fast and well built phone (I had also trouble with squeaky buttons and the bad screen) and Froyo 2.2.1 with Sense was running very smoothly on it. Last weekend I dropped my MT4G and the screen broke and the buttons and trackpad scratched. So I took the opportunity to buy the Samsung Nexus S. I wanted to give it a try and wanted to see how gingerbread looks. The phone is nice except the already known flaws. The SAMOLED is for my taste too dark and not sharp enough. But I could definitely live with that. The most disappointing thing was gingerbread. I couldn't believe what a half baked version of android Google put on this phone. It's embarrassing. The browser is useless with or without flash because it is not hardware accelerated? Everything is choppy and laggy. I had the MT4G before and its browser is smooth and fast. The NS is a pain while scrolling between homescreens....it lags, it misses swipes it drove me nuts. I tried several homelaunchers and the lag on the homescreen and the missed swipes were still present. I wanted to try the FFC just to realize that it is not supported by any 3rd market software (Tango doesn't really work) and neither by Google itself. Are you really kidding me? Yesterday after a week I had enough. Today I returned the phone mainly because of gingerbread and I am happily awaiting my MT4G. I will buy one tonight and I couldn't be more happy with HTC and Sense. I am not even anxiously waiting for gingerbread anymore for my MT4G.
thanks, may pass on the nexus s and wait for another 4g phone before switching to tmobile. thought about buying a new mytouch 4g and trading it for the nexus s and going on a two year contract .

The problem was probably it being by Samsung. Many users have reported Gingerbread running fine on HTC phones.

Could be. But most of the bugs should have been observed prior to release of this phone. The browser lag, flash unusable and that the phone reboots while on the phone doesn't sound like they tested the NS vigorously. The Nexus S is officially not a dev phone and to put something like that to BestBuy is unbelievable. BTW I had two Nexus S and both were buggy.
gingerbrad on the mytouch 4g runs amazing.. its the nexus s lol.
id still trade my mytouch 4g for one though. idk why

I'm tempted to, hopefully going to check it out tomorrow. If I like it I may purchase a mytouch 4g for $99 on a two year contract. Trade the mytouch 4g for a nexus s then, and still have my old mytouch 4g which I purchased off craigslist for $250 brand new.
I have now my MT4G again and I am so happy with it. Try the Nexus S before you buy it. Stock Android and the Nexus line are dead for me.

I do like cm7, haven't really used the stock mytouch rom since I'm unlocked many features for tmobile. would keep the nexus s as a back up

I would buy an NS again if they will figure out which are hardware defects and which are bugs.
Got the best of both worlds here... MT4G running cm7 which is basically gingerbread ..

I had the same experience like you. I bought one of CL pretty cheap and sold it shortly after, later on i acquired 2 brand new in box Nexus S and sold it, the thing is i was never tempted to try on the phone again.
I found the same flaws you had in the Nexus S. The phone feels slow, more like a reskined vibrant with gingerbread. While i think 2.3 is nice because higher build android means always better but after using so many stock roms i don't buy the GOOGLE EXPERIENCE anymore, let me explain:
Basic things like dialer, is a pain in the a** to scroll through the call logs or contact list to call someone, yeah favorite helps but that is another extra step you have to take when making a call. HTC's dialer while overloaded it can easily search through your contact list when you touch dial their name on the numpad. Then you get the bonus of recording calls for important things you need out of the box without the need to wait for the deving team.
The stock browser sucks, no text reflow, well yes the nexus s owners will tell you to press on the zoom in/out soft buttons to reflow, again another extra steps.
Then the whole lag in a phone that is not suppossed to lag. Browser lags and the OS just doesn't feel as smooth as one hope to be, well feels smooth brand new but after some usage it starts to drag on its knees.
Well again the GOOGLE EXPERIENCE of customizing your phone the way you want is just plain old when back in the days android was in the baby stages the theme builders and custom launchers did a great job but i think that the users want something that works out of the box with higher level of customization than iOS.
I've went through 3 mytouch 4G, because my family members keept liking the phone so much that they wanted one for themselves and they are all been pleased, and none of them are android savy and cared enough about rooting or custom roms.
So in summary the nexus s is a nieche phone, the phone is for people who can put up with the shortcommings of a unfinished product and the patience of waiting for google to release updates. While new phones are released in the market every months I bet the nexus model will not have many followers after people see google released a half baked phone and OS when in a few months people can get dual core phones and LTE phones, google nexus one owners are still with their FULL GOOGLE EXPERIENCE and patiently waiting for "optimizations" from google. I just find it funny, it was a great thing with the nexus one because it was actually a great phone but the NS is just a quick wrapped product for the holiday season.
I know if I said that in the Nexus S forums, i'd get flamed because there are a bunch of nexus s owners that dropped 580 for the phone and need to somehow keep their ego high but this is how i feel about this whole nexus s phone.
So in summary if google released another phone, i'd really have to consider it because plain android is getting boring after 2 years of the same stuff from the G1, MT3G, Nexus1, G2, Nexus S...
Not to diss on custom rom builders either because custom roms takes time to build and by the time you have a very well composed rom, the phone has reached its EOL.
yes the nexus s does seem half baked, the nexus one was a solid phone and wouldn't mind picking up another one.

LOL. I know what you mean. I still don't understand why some people with NS have no problems at all; I had two and both had the same problems. Either they immediately root their phones and put some custom roms on it or they are ignorant. I try yo get the best bang for my bucks and at the moment it is the MT4G with Froyo. I don't even want a custom rom with gingerbread 2.3.1 on my MT4G at the moment. I wait until Gingerbread includes the new music player and GTalk supports the FFC. Let's hope soon
I had the same experience. I had a Nexus S for 2 weeks and it was terribly laggy.
I sent it back. Lucky I hadn't sold my MyTouch yet because now with CM7 Gingerbread is super snappy and amazing.
I blame Samsung. I had the Vibrant before the MT4G and it sucked as well.

I actually did like the vibrant, voodoo lagfix was pretty solid but kinda sucked having to turn it off to flash another rom. Loved the screen, but overall the phone did feel cheap

I agree. Post voodoo the vibrant was a beast. It's just too bad Samsung couldn't get it right out of the box.

Regarding the screen on the NS, I just realized that I am not a big fan of SAMOLED displays. I would always prefer a SLCD. I like the bright and sharp displays over the more vibrant but less sharp SAMOLED.
I got the NS and had it for a week and returned it.
So disappointing, the worst was not having a track pad.
Same day bought a MT4G off Craigslist.
First day I hated it, the stock browser is the worst I've ever seen.
Then I got Skyfire off the market and now I think the MT4G is the best
phone I've ever used.
I'm not giving up on the Nexus line, I still have an N1, I'm just giving up on Samsung.
Is anyone here are excited about Samsung Vibrant 4G? FFC and HSPA+ up to 21mbps? but the same old style lol..what is up with Samsung? can't they change their style? hehehe
Ewww I see Samsung failed and at it again, they have a thing for repeating and screwing users over and over. IDK why people even buy Samsung based phones these days didn't they learn from being abandoned?
BTW epsix read this thread MT4G is capped at 14.4 mb's about new Vibrant 4G in this forum we all covered it there. Its just marketing gimmick hence TMO haven't officially updated the Vibrant with 2.2 OTA? You know why? due to Samsung telling them not to as there is no diff between 4G and reg Vibrant lol other than it has AOS2.2 lol man you have to love Samsung they sure thing people are crazy or something.
PS: Folks stick with MT4G is superior than NS.

fantastic phone

Gonna have to say I've had my phone for around a month now and I'm still impressed.. I had posted my initial thoughts and comparing it to my EVO and I haven't changed my mind much. I'm loving the battery life.. compared to my EVO I can definitely last a solid day with medium use and not be worried about having a charger around. Pixel density still slightly bothers me.. but I'm accepting it. Speed wise seems as peppy or peppier than my EVO.. I had loaded many roms to improve usability and esthetics on the EVO and other than the MIUI interface I'm liking Samsungs take.. or yet mildly unfettered Android 2.2. I am excited at getting to load MIUI on this. It's great that at stock this phone is as good or better than my custom rom'd EVO in most aspects of at least how I use it. It also feels great in the hand....
I think the only phone that's gonna stand out enough that I'm gonna be tempted will be the Palm Pre 3... other than the lack of apps for WEBOS it's the best bloody mobile OS out there.... Period!
Good to see that you like it. great phone!

I have to completely agree, there are a thousand threads in this section about how people hate this phone blah blah blah.
I happen to LOVE this phone, as a matter of fact, its the best android phone ive owned to date. Much better than the Evo. Im not buying any new android phones unless its super amoled or better, Ill take the super amoled on this phone over an LCD any day, even with the sub pentile matrix..
Cant wait to see the galaxy s2. I cant imagine a phone operating better than this with a better bigger display.
Not a fan of the TW launcher, but launcherpro fixes that and makes thing much more speedy anyways

Well I'm glad I posted .. good to hear others liking their phones as well.. thought I might get lambasted but thought the s4g deserved some respect.
Man it's good to see this kind of thread. The "Samsung sucks, vibrant sucks, sgs4g sucks" threads are getting old. I can understand where people are coming from but that doesn't make it any less annoying. I loved my vibrant and the only reason I went to the sgs4g is because tmobile offered it to me w/full upgrade discount (because of gps issue). I sold my vibrant for $300 on ebay. I have to say, so far, I'm glad I did. I am a little worried about internal storage, but that's nothing a nice new shiny rom won't fix.
I love the speeds. At my house with the vibrant I was averaging about 3.5mbps. Now in the some spot with the sgs4g I avg 9.5, quite often I hit 12.5.
I hope the vibe of these forums stay with this type of attitude, and we don't get like the "vibe" of the other forums.
I look forward to what's to come for this phone with some voodoo! That would make this phone perfection IMHO.

right! you dont need the voodoo fix on the gs4g, it uses a different memory architecture than the original vibrant.
as far as internal memory goes, look in the dev section for a thread called rom deleted. There is a small fix that will free up about 250+ megs of memory available to the system. Its called the FOTA fix. Works like a charm, it gets rid of the files that are housed in the system for the automatic updates.

That's what I've heard, but it still seems a little laggy. Does it not to you? Like home screens and opening menus. And I know quad scores don't "mean anything", but it's getting half what my vibrant + voodoo was. It just doesn't seem as zippy as ext4.
On the FOTA fix, is that something that we may need at a later date, or is it easy to just add back.
Thanks for the help.

As far as the fota fix, im pretty sure well be fine without it as once your rooted youll want to wait for roms from the devs once cwm is working anyways
I just recently switched to Go Launcher and have put the other lanchers away.

Would you recommend this phone? (Vibrant user)

I've currently got a Vibrant, and my stepmom's phone is near the end of it's life- My parents are offering to buy my phone from me and so I'm looking at my options.
What does everyone here think of this phone? Anyone an ex-Vibrant user who can compare experiences for me? Thanks very much!
I didn't have a Vibrant... I wanted one though, does that count?
I recommend this phone to everyone... except future people who have quad cores on a Super-Duper AMOLED screen running Rainbow Sherbert(Android 7.4 duh).
Seriously though, it has some quirks, but is a bad a** phone...

I would not.
It has potential and I'm glad that a lot of the major developers are on board, but right now it's broken- both in stock form and in the aftermarket. Until the stock ROM can at least be said to work (and right now there are more than a few major issues) I think a recommendation of "Do Not Buy" is a good one.
And for you, specifically, coming from a Vibrant would suck since you're moving from a phone with non-working GPS to a phone with non-working GPS. Wouldn't you at least like to navigate properly once before you die?

I have to disagree. This phone is amazing. I had some minor issues running stock, but once I rooted and flashed its been smooth sailing for me. I'm running the Ultimate G2X rom and couldn't be happier with it. Everything works fine, including GPS.
I'm not denying that some have issues with their phones, but not all of us do. It really is an awesome phone and I'd recommend it to anyone. I do recommend buying it new though, in case you do have a defeectice unit so you can return it.
I've had the vibrant since release. The g2x is definitely an upgrade, though not a huge one. Gaming on the vibrant is probably better than any other single core phone so you're probably not going to notice much improvement, the screen is great, speed is decent. Even though both the vibrant and g2x have their software quirks, EVERYTHING works on the g2x(gps in particular works everytime for me where the vibrant was hit or miss, mostly miss).

I can say that I do recommend this phone. I don't think a lot of people have major issues, I certainly don't, and I bought it used in excellent condition. Tegra 2 is amazing for gaming, and everything is just really fast in general.
I came from a G2, which had a physical keyboard, easily removable battery door, and LED light. The G2x has none of these, but the only thing I really miss is the LED light, which can be remedied with an app called LG 2x/Black notifications that uses the capacitive buttons as an LED indicator
I had the Vibrant and the Vibrant 4G. When the G2X was announced, I jumped on it. I would buy it again but if you're watching new releases, there's a sweet Vibrant Galaxy S 2 comming to USA kinda soon....

Honestly? Sure, the G2X is probably better than the Vibrant...
However....
It's not THAT much better. I would save the upgrade for the NEXT generation phone after the G2X and Sensation. As far as I'm concerned, the Vibrant isn't suffering from old age yet, like the MyTouch 3G it replaced for me! Of course, the MyTouch 3G was born Geriatric.
Nah, i wouldn't recommend this phone.
Reboots.
Freezes.
Screen bleeding.
Wifi connection.

hahaha this phone is fast fast fast !
but if you have curves hands, the phone is gonna be bad...as for many people here, that the first time holding a phone with android
Thanks all for the replies... One other thing: How brick-proof is this thing? I'm loving having ODIN on my vibrant (I'm always flashing ROMs and kernals), and ODIN is a big reason why I've been really hesitant to drop the Samsung (well, and the screen and onboard memory and battery...)
Thanks again!

Saying Goodbye To this Phone, What are your Experiences with this Phone?

So, my dog broke my HTC Sensation 4G's screen ... Now getting Samsung Galaxy S II T-Mobile. This was a great phone. Learned many things about android. Learned about Security Off and On, Radios. Everything. It was pretty bad though with no Custom ROMs.So I want to know what did you think of this device and how it performs. Before a last goodbye.
SGSII is nice, I played with it while still in development. Reason I wouldn't get it? Low dev support. Sure, there's a whole bunch of support for the SGSII in other countries but that version is COMPLETELY different then the one your getting. ALL the guts are different right down to the display so everything that has been done to that one wont work on the one your getting. It's a US only version. Just my .02.
I trialed the Amaze (yes I work for TMO). It was nice, fast but not faster than my Sensation and DEFINATELY not faster customized. Again, it's issue is it is only a TMO phone so dev support will be low. It will be nothing like the Sensation.
On to the Sensation. Best phone I've ever used, hands down. Everytime I pick it up, I'm still amazed by what I can do with it and it's user interface. Yeah, Sense 3.0 has a long ways to go but its so nice to play with. Something new almost every day!
I gotta be honest, when I first got my Sensation I was quite disappointed with the horrible UI that comes with it out of the box. But then I flashed Senseless Extreme, which made it a lot more tolerable. Now that I have flashed CM7 I am completely happy and my phone is extremely fast and smooth. I couldn't ask for more. Much more fun to use than my old Nexus One. I just love the huge, brilliant screen and the awesome CPU.
I personally am disappointed in this phone, but I enjoy it at the same time. I find the fact that it isn't perfect is what makes it fun: fun to try to make it better by modding it. If I had a phone that I liked out of the box, I never would have discovered rooting and custom ROMs and the like. I only joined xda because I was so disappointed.
Overall, I will never buy a LCD display phone again, the poor software integration left me wanting, and problems like the crappy speaker and decidedly average battery life were disappointing. So I am disappointed, but this phone has opened me up to the Android world (1st android phone and 1st smartphone) and I'm excited to see what it can do with ICS. I'll milk this phone for what its worth for sure.

i had a sensation too and opted out for the galaxy S2 ,i wouldnt worry about the dev support fo the galaxy as is there already a few devs over there and iit will continue to grow. i just couldnt deal with the dust issue .when you send a phone back because of this and the one you get back has it worse than the one you sent then its a problem. with that being said i loved everything else about the sensation but it was time to move on as i was sick of getting replacement handsets. galaxy is a very nice phone and i dont think i went backward any
I sold my sensation for the SGSII with T-mobile and it's the best decision I've made. The sensation stock is such a piece of crap, but thanks to the devs the phone is decent. But its sucks that you have to root your phone in order to get good performance. The SGSII? Smokes the sensation in every category except screen resolution. But the Super AMOLED plus display makes up for it. If you haven't seen it in real life you don't know what I'm talking about. It's simply AMAZING. No wonder why it gets all the praises.
I wish I knew how you make this phone lag. Mine is completely stock and I have no lag at all and good battery life. Of course I have no dust issues either so maybe I got an anomaly

I had the sensation, then switched to the amaze, then went back to the sensation. Played with the sgs2 and I hated the touchwiz ui crap. I know that is complete personal preference so personally it was enough for me to not get it and go back to the sensation. So I absolutely love my sensation. Even in stock form.
I heard a lot of complaining about the Sensation on this forum before I got it and I was pretty worried about buying it. When I played with it in the store, I thought it was a little laggy in scrolling and opening apps.
Buying it was the best phone decision I've made. I'm not a techno-wiz, but s-off, rooting and installing Android Revolution HD + the Bricked kernel was easy and has made the phone incredibly fast, usable and fun to use. Seriously the best phone I've ever used.
I went the other way I had a gs2 sold it why 2 reasons firstly the thing gets very very hot when playing games and I mean hot secondly its to thin uncomfortable to hold well it was for me. I then bought the sensation but lost my job so had to sell it I was gutted best phone iv ever had. Got a new job but bought a HTC desire s which iv still got but today iv just ordered a new sensation which ill get wensday carnt wait

This is the best phone I've had hands down. It took a lot to get it there but the best things in life... Well you gotta work for them. After getting CM7 and the anker 1900 battery this phone is a beast. I'm sure it'd kick the crap out of the tmo sgs 2.

This is the best phone ive ever gotten myself..I played with the sgsii and it feels like a toy in your hands and i also hated the touchwiz ui..I was planning to get the amaze but the phone is way too thick and the design is crap compared to the sensation..
I love this phone. Got it on launch day and have had no real issues. Maybe I got lucky? I have insurance but have never had any reason to send it back.

Love the phone! Came from Epic 4G, and I don't see myself ever buying a Samsung phone (unless, of course, it's a Nexus device!). It seems the TMO SGS2 might suffer a similar fate of having poor dev support as the Epic 4G because of the considerably different hardware (specifically the processor); they still haven't received Gingerbread, and no CM7 support (even the SGS1 hasn't received a stable CM7 build I believe).
Anyway, this was my first experience with Sense, and I have to say it blows TouchWiz out of the water, and offers some nice enhancements to stock Android (see camer). Despite the attractiveness of Sense, I put CM7 on this bad boy, and it is leaps and bounds better than the stock experience. Even tried going back to Sense, but a few hours later, I was restoring my Nandroid backup!
Take a look at CM7 benchmarks on the Sensation, you'll see that they are very comparable, if not better, than the stock SGS, which kind of suggests Sense is really bogging down the system.
Camera on the Sensation is great, and the resolution offers the most screen real estate that I've ever had on a phone. It's really fast, and does almost everything I want it to do. All it's missing now is Siri
I was disappointed in the phone at first, like some of you, but it has really started to grow on me. One thing that needs to happen, when you first get a sensation, is to S-Off, root it, and then put a modded ROM on it.
It doesn't even matter if it's a Sense mod, AOSP/CyanagenMod, or CyanagenMod - the stock needs to go to really get a feel for what this phone can do.
I actually like the LCD screen, although the SGSII's super-amoled screen is nice. I call it a toss-up.
I think what really did it for me was the realization that the software can be changed - but the hardware is much more difficult. This phone just feels better in my hand than the SGSII. I've been lucky enough not to have a "dust under the screen" problem (yet).
I dunno, maybe it's because I came from a clunky BlackBerry and an even clunkier OpenMoko.
I love this phone! I got it when all sensation still run as S_On and after while S_off and rooted this phone from 6/10 boost to 8/10 then someone on the this forum post out how to self unlock the phone without call the mobile provider it make it 9/10 to me. After flash custom rom and do some "Tweak" with the setting and skin. Even some iphone fanboy will play my phone while we hangout.
This phone is great. With a custom ROM it runs ultra fast. I recommend IC 3.3.1 with it.

[Q] move on?

I'm with att and im up for an upgrade. I currently have the inspire unlocked and rooted and I love it but I always like new toys. Was thinking about getting the samsung galaxy s II. What do you guys think? anybody made the move from the inspire to the sII yet? How is it?
I love the big screen on the inspire but the short battery life is starting to annoy me a little because I am a heavy user.
There's plenty of folks that have. I personally, am awaiting the Holiday/Raider.

That's android for ya dude,
lol im sure there are android phones with better battery life then the inspire out there.
Tx Redneck, is there any offical date for raider? I googled and it sounds like a great phone but most of it seems to be rumors. I love my HTC's tho.

Do a little research. Android phones have been known to be crap on battery. The more we ask the phones to do the less battery they will have. Look in the other forums for Tue newer devices and you will see an average of about a day maybe a little more but that's about it. Hell the new dual core are showing 18 with minor use
I hear that the galaxy supposedly has pretty good battery life compared to the inspire. I guess its just different from different sources.

It also depends on how you use it. I have a buddy that has he galaxy s II and he gets about a day out of it with mild use. The only way to tell is to get it and see how it stands up to how you use it.
The days of phones lasting days without charge are long gone so charging every night is expected and accepted
I'm ok with it lasting 1 day, the problem is to get it to last the whole day lol.
I use apps like veetle, hulu, fb, and pandora and from what I heard the samsung screen requires less battery then the lcd on the inspire so hopefully that would work to my benefit.
I'm not sure yet if I should get it or wait till the end of the year and see if at&t gets something interesting because these upgrades only come around so often.

I cant say for sure as the SMOLD screen on the captivate used a ton more battery then my inspire. I would wait If i were you but that is just me. The screen on the Captivate was not enough for me to keep it so I traded it for the Inspire and after seeing the galaxy s II I wasnt really impressed. I am waiting on the the next good HTC. Ill never use a samsung phone again.

From what I've heard the HTC phones are harder on the battery than other manufacturers because Sense is such a hog. But there's always ways around that (root)

Yeah sense is a resource hog indeed but with the right tweaks it can be onenof the best over all UI as it all works together seemlessly. I run a senseless rom my self as i have my fav 3rd party apps for launcher, messaging, email and stuff so other then the dialer and contacts app witch is the best dialer/contacts combo I have come across. But it is about the same as the TouchWiz from Samsung or motoblur from Motorola.

lol yeah there are a few. My last phone was an inspire and I picked up a gs2 a couple of weeks ago. My battery life has over doubled using the same habits. moderate/light use I can get 2 days, I never ever thought that would be possible on an android. My gs2 has better battery life than my friggin iphone. I have allot of phones and the inspire might be the worst battery life of any of them, but I still love that *****. I actually traded one of my inspires for a focus, but wp7 has some serious growing up to do before I make the switch full time.
Not trying to **** on the inspire and not trying to sway your decision. The new htc looks crazy nice, but I have yet to use it so I have no comment. The things I will be looking at closely on it are cell reception, battery life, glass fit, and of course a usable speaker. Those issues caused me to leave htc, for the first time in a while I might add. Here's to hoping the new holiday is all that and a bag of chips.
If your just looking for an htc then I would say screw it and get the holiday, but if your not married to one brand I would go to the stores and use the phones. Read online in the forums about issues and complaints and pick the phone that best suites your likes and needs. buying on launch day is just gonna make you one of the guinea pigs, which is fine with some like myself.
In my opinion the gs2 is a better buy than the new skyrocket due to screen size and the cpu. I dont have lte here and would rather have the horsepower and smaller screen, 4.3" is plenty big especially at that resolution. The new atrix 2 looks pretty nice to, but I havent messed with it that much. THe new motopoop is much much lighter than the last. And unlike the first atrix, it doesnt lag like hell out of the box, gingerbread was a God send for the first one. Happy hunting
My Inspire battery is pretty good. I charge it at night and go to work. I'm on WiFi all day at work and frequently check fb and other things. Even some YouTube or Pandora. When I get off I put it on my carcharger for the 15 min ride home and that's it till bedtime. Wasn't great though till I got advance task killer. I kill pretty much everything bout every hour or so now its pretty good.
