[AOSP] Speedy Device overlay (major wip!!!) - EVO Shift 4G Android Development

hello guys ive been working on a aosp device overlay for the shift for awhile now. It isn't quite finished yet still alot of g2 to be found in there but it should be nearing completion!!! i figured i would go ahead and shoot u guys a link to it so we could all contribute as a community and get these forums off on the right foot!!!
Remember though all of this is useless till we have full root
https://github.com/bcnice20/android_device_htc_speedy

Grabbing this while im working on it as well.

Okay so when I jumped into the Evo scene I was a bit overwhelmed and honestly never posted at all...I was kind of excited to be getting the Shift so soon so I could actually try and help development. What exactly is this? Just a basic rom with no sense? Sorry if its a stupid question just a little confused.

aosp is stock android, someone correct me if i'm wrong. but it's not a rom i don't think, like he said, just an overlay... whatever that means. i'm pretty new as well, only had my evo for 3 weeks.

AOSP is Android Open Source Project. That means no sense, no tweaks, just plain android as it should be. Full AOSP roms are roms, they are just good old stock android

Couldn't agree more AOSP is about 20x faster than sense, blur, or touchwiz

Ah okay, so this is just stripping everything down to the bare minimum stock version of android for people to build AOSP roms off of?

About right This is a rom/will be a rom though

Is MIUI an AOSP rom? And is that what it will eventually be?

MIUI is most certainly not Based, yes, but not full AOSP

Yeah I had watched a couple videos, seems pretty cool with its own home screen functions and everything. Can't wait.

Sorry if this is the wrong thread to post this in but it is an AOSP question....If I were to go and rm all sense apks and rosie using visionary+ and terminal emulator would I end up with stock android or will I crash my phone? also would I have to push any apks for dialer and contacts and such or would removing sense apks revert back to stock for that too? cause even though we just have temproot right now I set it to enable on reboot and set the initial command in terminal emulator to go su and remove all apks i dont want so everytime I retsart essentially I can open terminal emulator then sense restarts and all the bloatware is gone again..it only takes a min longer....if I could get rid of sense this way too everytime I open the phone it would only take an extra min but Id have stock android til we get full root....guess i could probably try it seeing as a reboot should bring everything back but still a little too nervous i might really f it up lol

You would have senseless sense basically. Still sense framework. So no aosp stock android.

buddy you are looking for a world of headaches. just switch launchers if you dont like sense. or flash an aosp rom like evodeck. if you start playing around removing sense from a sense based rom bad things are gonna happen.

Thanks
not true guys. on froyo, id always run calks remove sense script after I installed launcher pro and set it to default. a sense based rom with sense removed used to be titz. but now with sense 2.1 and 3.0, there is nothing better. for now anyways. if you have any questions, im very familiar with this type of setup, so just hit me up
your right but he was talking about just deleting sense thru titanium backup. that is not a good idea.

AwesomeRom-Triphoria-ICanHazNetflix? 5/12/11

Welcome to AwesomeRom!
This is my first rom on xda.
enjoy
v.1-Warm edition: a fantastic romp in the woods. this version includes a variety of images and theme files from Myn's Warm 2.2 rom for the HTC Evo.
v.2-Same as v.1 with a few behind the scenes elements. now incorporates bcnice20's 1.51 OC_UV kernel. system apps and frameworks have been zip aligned and png optimized to reduce roughly 5-6 megs. this allows for faster boot and load times, as well as allowing for smaller memory footprints. optional apps have been moved to SDCard for your installing pleasure. just use file explorer to install.
v.2.2- Same as v.1 and v.2 but with a few implemented fixes. Htc_ime should no longer continuously force close. changed system fonts to look a little bit smoother. changed a few misc image files to look a little bit smoother. Added a second option for everyone who doesnt want to use sense. Boot audio has been removed. Charging animation has been fixed. now more accurate
ReduxV1-fixed somethings, updated some images, busybox symlinked correctly, new bootanimation. other changes done, but its 331am and im still not feeling well. Images removed. Posting Updated Images Later.
ReduxV2-Fixed more things. restored old boot animation. updated some apps. updated visual voicemail (may get stuck "verifying account information" just hit the back button to make it shutup). couple of other odds and ends.
Triphoria-alot of changes. mostly to note: theme changes. phone boots with govenor on concervative 246mhz-1.3ghz by default. no need for setcpu. most sense artifacts have been removed. more updated list soon to come...
dont install setcpu or anything else unless you want to change the clock speed. its set to 246mhz-1.3ghz with a conservative governor on boot. enjoy

[MOD] Extended Quick Settings

So this seems to be the standard of all standard mods for Sense 3 so I thought I'd port it first and post it for everyone to use.
Requirements
rooted
using a DEODEXED ROM
must know how to use ADB or have CWM installed
I used Paul's deodexed stock ROM to build this from.
Had my buddy jface test it out and it seems to be working, here's a screenie he sent me back
Installation
You can either flash the attached zip (untested, someone test it for me!), or push the attached SystemUI.apk to /system/app/SystemUI.apk.
MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP! Just do it. Always. It's so much easier than having to recover from a bad flash or something.

can this be merged with UOT? that mod themes the battery and also patches SystemUI.apk.
So only 1 sticks .

Has anyone tested to see if this works on Sense 2.1 Gingerbread ROMS?
Sadly I'm still rocking an HTC HD2 and I'm running 2.3.3 with Sense 2.1.
I don't mind being a guinea pig after a nandroid backup but I just figured I'd ask if anyone tried it yet first.

From the code I've looked at on Sense 3 ROMs, they typically define whether something is Sense 3 or 2 compatible. So in a real-world example when you're looking at Rosie it has two completely different implementations between 2.1 and 3 and they're both there in the code base. There was no such distinction with quick settings
Dumb ranting aside, I don't see a reason why it won't work on a Sense 2.1 device running Gingerbread. Shoot me over your SystemUI.apk and I might be able to port it. No promises, blind developing sucks

So, I think it IS possible, but it would take quite some time to go through and merge all the changes and match up all the IDs. I don't have the time or patience to do this as it takes a long time to communicate back and fourth for one single change, or error, etc etc.
Maybe an experienced smali hacker from the HD2 can port it over?
Sorry man

Figured if the current one worked for Sense 2.1 then I'd try it. If not, maybe some other time. The fact that you even took a look at it was good enough for me.

[WIP][ROM] Eclair (Android 2.1, .32 kernel), need some help ;)

I have picked up an old project I was working on, getting Eclair on our phones.
Now you might think, why Eclair, it is much older than Froyo and we already have Gingerbread!?
The answer is simple, just because we do not have Eclair roms for our phones
Some people here think newer is always better, but that is not always the case
Eclair is already booting, but I have some FC's and launcher does not work correctly. Neither any other things work.
I was trying to get a logcat, but could not connect using adb.
Perhaps someone else can give me a solution for enabling adb?
What did I use to get eclair booting up?
Froyo bootimage
Compiled Eclair using Froyo-libs and kernel.
If you want to take a look at it, here is a pre-pre-alpha where nothing works
It is not the latest, because I'm already solving some problems.
Reserved for future use

First: Congrats
Second: Provide some logcat, maybe you have same problem as mine in OMFGB (missing resources in apks)
Third: Upload to your gitHub,I'll have a look
BTW: Could you check if you have any /build/core/kernel.mk? Really getting mad with that error on CM6.
Could not get any logcat
But it's solved
Launcher is working now!
Updated build.prop, checked if some files existed, but some were missing.
Guess I forgot something in device-files
Now working on sd-card mounting, gsm and wifi, if these are fixed I will provide an updated zip (this zip contains generic build.prop )

Non-working RIL could be caused from three things:
You missed LG services into makefiles/.rc files (if you want I can PM you some strings to add to .rc files)
Wrong libs (easy to check)
Non-prelinked libraries (define TARGET_PRELINKER_MAP (or some like that) into device_thunderg.mk and modify prelink-linux-arm-msm7xx7 or some like that with names of unlinked libs. You can see what stuff isn't prelinked with a debugging-enabled linker you can find into Swift-sense Mur4iK GT540 post. For prelink address, use google because I don't know
Would this have any actual speed benefit?
Sent from my LG-P500 using Tapatalk
You will absolutely encounter speed differences with Gingerbread.
You will even have more space available, romsize is rather small

No, this one is just AOSP with some LG crap
And booting using original LG Froyo kernel for now
Seems most compatible
Perhaps later a custom kernel will be used
Sorry for this off topic, but, good job and good luck ^_^ i hope you can successfully do this i loved the older builds of android an would love to go back to it, i wish i could help in some way and this is the best i can do :3 but good luck

The one posted here just boots to UI but launcher etc FC. (that is why it is called pre alpha)
Got one with working launcher now, but spent some time on OMFGB with Bytecode and CM9.
As soon as all is working I will release a beta.
