Official facebook app a battery killer? - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Is it just me or does the official facebook app just destroy battery life? I went from a full charge to under 70% in half an hour. Seems like a lot...

Kill an stop all facebook processes and see if you get any improvement. I am also using the latest facebook on my Nexus One but I don't experience a 30% in half an hour.

I have the official facebook app and I am at 50% after light use... I charged it yesterday morning.
Samsung Captivate

Turning off notifications in Facebook solved battery issues on a few friends phones. They stated using push notifications in a recent update, and I get the feeling they are pushing out a lot more than they should be.

The app doesnt have any services that i can see. Even after switching to settings directly using the home button long press, as in not backing out of the facebook app.
Maybe its nothing, just thought id check to see if anyone else had noticed this.
Ill try turning off notifications.

Handcent App battery usage

So I looked at my battery usage today and I was on 21 hours with the Handcent App using 48% of the battery. I don't remember the stock App using that much. Any ideas as to why that's doing that?
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA Premium App
I'm just gonna guess that it's a bug since most of the time it says 98% of the battery was used by "display" and that's clearly not accurate. If Handcent is putting a significant drain on your battery life I'd recommend uninstalling and using GO SMS Pro, I tried it and won't go back to Handcent. It looks cleaner and boots up faster(about 2-3x faster), give it a try!
I think I figured it out. If you use the widget it drains the battery. I just changed it to the shortcut to the app and now I'm on a day with only four percent usage.

That's a bummer, the widget was my favorite part about the app :[ I guess the notification bar will have to do.

Stock Gingerbread 2.3.3 issues.

After updating I can not turn the mobile internet on and when I am trying to connect it to my PC as HTC sync it is taking about 2 mins until it is connected. Has anyone the issues?

no
restart your phone ?
Tried many times. Nothing helps. Thinking about downgrading to froyo. Is it possible?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
My issue is with battery life and charging time. My phone now runs out of battery in about five hours which includes two quick calls and checking Twitter once an hour. If I don't touch it at all it will run dry in about eight hours. And now it takes four hours to get a full charge
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
You must have something doing syncs, like HTC Sense, to drain battery. Battery life is better with GB over Froyo. Go to Apps manager and see what is running. My battery life definitely improved with the update.

I had the same problem connecting to my data. Go into mobile network settings, then access point names, hit menu and hit reset to defaults. As far as the PC connection and battery life I have had no problems with. Maybe try a good memory management app and change your sync settings refresh settings to not update as often or to manual. I get about 12 hours of battery with heavy/constant use

I would go with one of the roms that are built from the stock rom such as cleardroid. they look and act like the stock but have less bloatware and crap to them. they have a GB option and many of them have developed them to help out with battery life.
After scouring multiple sources today, I found the source of the battery drain some of us are seeing after the update. It is caused by the dialer app remaining on after making or receiving calls. If you check your battery stats, you'll see dialer is responsible for way more than normal battery drain even if you only made a single call early in the day. The unofficial fix for this (until HTC or Google issue a proper fix) is to go into menu/settings/sound. Under incoming calls, uncheck all 3 boxes then reboot the phone. Some claim any one of the three helped them, but others like me had to uncheck all 3. After making these changes earlier today, I am finally seeing the improved battery life promised with GB.
Hope this helps someone else too.

Thanks for the info. Currently testing.
So, has anyone else experimented with these settings? Seen the Dialer battery hog phenomenon?

[Q] What is eating up my battery?

Ok so yesterday and today my battery has been atrocious. 5 hours on IDLE and it went from 100 to 55%. What the hell? Under battery usage it says android OS ~23%, clock ~18% and android system ~22% as the top 3.
Get the app betterbatterystats and see what was keeping your phone awake. It was most likely a deep sleep issue. I would also suggest cpu spy. Goodluck

as ckck says, this app will help you narrow down the problem as to which app it is. Its a paid app but a free dev version is available here on xda. CPUSpy as he also mentioned is an app to check whether or not your phone is going into deep sleep. If it's not, an app is definately keeping it awake, which is your problem.
If you're running the ICS leak go to Settings->Sound and uncheck "Touch sounds" and "Screen lock sound". I did this and it tripled my battery life.
I use 2xbattery app with email push set to 30 minutes. It is a great battery saving. See proof.

I preffer Juicy Defender Ultimate, it does things for you with out much settings, like email push it just pings and sync on it's own, major thing it turn data off, and I found data is one of the biggest battery users
2x battery does the same. I tried to post screenshot on my last post but Somehow xda app will only update jpeg and my leaked ics stores them as png.

Google Maps Wakelocks (not Latitude)

I've been noticing higher than normal standby drain on Synergy for a while now. Using BetterBatteryStats I noticed Google Maps is the culprit. Currently, I have 9 hours since charged and it's been sitting idle next to me while I slept. AlarmManager accounts for 2m23s of wakelock, but a staggering 1342 counts. Under alarms, com.google.android.apps.maps and com.google.android.location are the top two, accounting for 315 wakelocks (everything else is another 150 counts). If I'm on Wifi, these numbers blow up and I can see tons of wakelocks even on the built in battery graph. Oddly my battery life is about the same in both circumstances. I notice most of the Alarm events are unaccounted for, so whatever is causing them must be hurting the most. Also, when on Wifi, most of my Partial Wakelocks are caused directly by Google's location services, usually with tens of minutes of wake time and hundreds of counts in ~16 hours. It doesn't sound like much time, but it's the counts that are killing me, I think. I end up with ~90% deep sleep when I don't touch my phone. I lose about 1.2% per hour or so, and I know the phone is capable of less than half of that.
I've disabled Latitude, made sure my CPU was set back to 1.51 GHz (it defaults to 1.9 GHz on Synergy), and my GPS/Location options are all enabled. Switching to a different maps/navigation app isn't really an option for me.
I've found posts discussing this, but typically it's caused by Latitude or just gets chalked up to a bug in Map. If it really is a bug, it's been around off and on for about a year and I have a hard time believing Google would leave a battery draining bug in one of their main apps that long.
TL;DR Is anyone else getting lots of wakelocks cause by Google Maps? Does anyone know how to fix it or narrow down the cause?
I'm seeing very similar, haven't seen a good explanation yet.

I am having a similar issue. I am starting to think that it is related to Google Now. This isn't meant for ICS and I think it is causing issues. I am going to turn it off for a few days to see if anything changes.

Yea it sucks I had major battery drain from maps for no apparent reason either on wifi at home

I noticed the same, I kept Google now off with this last nightly I installed and I'm getting a little under 1% an hour with screen off and wifi on. I think my battery is also better without juice Defender or green Power.

Yea, +1 on killing Google Now, although I just killed the location history option (under latitude and google now, if I recall) and saw a big decrease in battery usage/wakelocks from maps.
I decided to just freeze Google maps. So far so good

For me, I narrowed it down to the Facebook app. When I uninstalled it, my Maps Wakelocks stopped right away.
Good tip. I just installed Facebook for the first time last night, so for me at least, it's not the cause. I do remember seeing a location option in the settings, so you may be able to solve that issue without resorting to uninstalling.

If u think it's Facebook u can download friend Caster if I'm not mistaking that app doesn't use gps every time u open it like Facebook does

I've seen this when I have the Google location service option enabled. It seemed better when I disabled that.
My standby time is now amazing compared to before with maps unfrozen

Verizon galaxy s 3 battery life fix plz help

Hi, I'm brand new to this site. I'm looking for help fixing my galaxy s 3 battery life. It is running android 4.3. The GPS problem that others have experienced I am not experiencing. I'm not rooted. Everything is stock. I have a few apps disabled such as Google plus etc. I'm just looking to find a cause and hopefully a fix to my problem. I'm losing 1 to 3 percent an hour while idle. While in use I could drop 6 to 10 percent an hour. I am a moderate user. I mostly use facebook, music apps and web browsing. I also have sync turned off for facebook and Google.

And it will fix my problems?

I'm stock, because. I don't know how to root, and the 4.3 is a massive disappoint to me - the battery drain is extraordinarily high. 3 hours of light use drained 50% juice.
On the VZ forums, people are livid.

My bro experiencing lag on his fone after 4.3 update he also dislike clock widget on lockscreen.
He was experiencing crappy battery but after he install wakelock and deleted apps his daughter download his battery improve a bit.

Heavy drains are from Google service stuff. Go into settings -> account-> location. tab on location and make sure "location report" turn off. If you have multiple account make sure you turn them all off. Then install wakelock detector from the market and see what else is draining your battery. Verizon stock is not bad on battery,
