Hi
As I know a lot of problems comes from this tiny little but huge monster of the famous nv_data.bin.
Upgrading ... corrupt nv_data.bin!
Costume rom ... corrupt nv_data.bin!
Unlocking ... corrupt nv_data.bin!
Haaaaachu ... corrupt nv_data.bin!
well, they almost solved all the problems that drives from this file for Galaxy S.
What they do:
They have a standard unlocked nv_data.bin file and would use it as a reference to replace the original IMEI, product codes, unlock codes etc.
This is (almost) what "repair_nv_data.zip" will do.
So, we can do it for the Galaxy 3 too.
We can repair our corrupt nv_data.bin files.
What we need:
1. some samples of clean unlocked nv_data.bin.
2. some people who are familiar with HEX.
Dear friends this is already done in this forum for the other Galaxy S phones and this is already done for the I5800 in other forums (samdroid for $20).
I think the first step is to share our nv_data.bin files (both corrupt and intact) to compare them with each other.
Any proposals will be greatly appreciated.
Good luck
P.S.1. Never forget to backup the /efs folder!
P.S.2. This thread is not trying to change anything in original nv_data.bin file (specially IMEI, it's illegal).
Please collaborate, if you can..

Hi all,
I have been using Captivate for a while, rooted and flashed with new rom's etc....now I want to unlock it to use on other carriers and cant find /efs/nv_data.bin file...looks like I might have deleted this partition...
is there any other way to unlock with out the original nv_data.bin file? my phone does show me correct IMEI number so..is there a way to find the unlock code based on that IMEI number?
appreciate all your help.
I did a master clear and flashed it back to original rom with Odin but still can't seem to find /efs/nv_data.bin ??
I only have 3 folders now..
Android
DCIM
sd
You can not see the file with the stock file manager. You need to root then use either root explorer or super manager
MIUI
search for galaxy s unlock by Herloz in the market. i have a used cappy with a corrupt nv_data.bin, and using super one click returned the fffffffff code. the app worked a treat and the unlock has stayed thru a few roms now. it doesn't repair the code but does the trick.
My imei no got lost while restoring backup using cwm..... i looked around the forum and the ".nv_data" method will not do because my efs folder has a file named "essiv" only and nothing else.....
if someone would confirm what files are contained in thier efs folder and mail it to me also i'll be grateful......
I don't think the 'efs folder' of one device can be used with other devices as it contains the device's IMEI number.
Could you elaborate a bit as to what did you do that resulted in the loss of your IMEI number ? It would help others avoid it in future.
Well.... i restored the same backup file couple of times 'coz i was trying to flash a new theme...btw i am on stock indian 2.3.5......
the files in efs folder can be edited using hex editor (read somewhere in the s2 forum...i don't remeber which thread) so the imei no. in that file can be modified...
this might be alot to say or ask for, but can someone share a /efs backup with the files, as an attachment. I LOST MINE AND HAVE NO BACKUP! My /efs is empty...
Galaxy Note 10.1
GT-N8013
I dont think anyone would do that.
sorry man
No one is going to give you their efs data.... This contains the IMEI for their own device. In fact in most countries it's illegal to change/clone IMEI's as this can then be used for crime...

Hello,
I have a very strange situation with my device.
I was planning to manually backup my EFS folder (actually "efs") as per some manual backup tutorial I found around here, when I noticed that I have no .nv_data file. Apparently, there's no .nv_data or .nv_data.md5 on my device that I could find (rooted, using Android Terminal Emulator and the "find" command).
I looked around EFS, I copied EFS to my computer and looked some more.
However, the device seems to work fine otherwise.
Anyone can tell me whether this is normal? I was under the impression that this file is quite important in relation with IMEI and modem.
Thanks!
Hello all, thanks for your time.
I have a quick question that I couldn't find an answer to on these forums or anywhere online. The problem I'm having is making a backup of my /efs file. I attempted to post this in the Q&A sticky post but it wouldn't let me, due to not having enough posts. Anyways, on to the question/problem:
I want to backup my /efs file, but I can't seem to find a way. All the apps I have tried don't recognize my device ( Galaxy Note II SGH i317 ) and EFS Pro either finds an error in mismatching md5s or has an error "accessing archives." I should have backed this up before I rooted and flashed CleanROM 5.0, but as they say, hindsight is 20/20. Anyways, my question is how do I manually copy the file? Most posts I have read hint at this being an option, but a noob like me doesn't even know how to get to the file in the directory. Any help would be greatly appreciated, especially a guide through the directory to the file.
Semi-related question: does a CWM recovery file backup the /efs? I've read conflicting information on this. Thanks again!
