Ebook reader as audio? - Galaxy Tab Themes and Apps

Is there any application that will read aloud files, whether they be text, pdf or ebook formats?
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App

None that I know of..
There are AudioBook apps though
http://answers.oreilly.com/topic/1095-can-i-listen-to-audiobooks-on-my-android/

The WordPlayer app has an add-on that will speak the books. It's listed in the Android Market as "Books WordPlayer" and "Speech for WordPlayer". It does a fairly good job on the books I've tested it with.

[Q] Movie Catalog App

Does anybody know of an app that will catalog my DVDs and Blu Rays using barcode scanning, and also has a randomizer feature for when I can't decide what to watch? I can find plenty of apps that will catalog my movies, but they don't have a randomizer feature.
Thanks for the input.

(App Request) media library scanner

Hi,
I've searched high and low for an app that would be able to scan cds, movies, books, etc to a file that can be exported to spreadsheet. Everything on the market fails in different ways. Some don't work at all.
Anyone want to code one or have a suggestion for one not on the market? I need to catalog my music collection for sale.

RSS Podcast Downloader?

I'm looking for an app that you give it an RSS feed (ie http://www.npr.org/rss/podcast.php?id=500005 ) and it would download the latest mp3 to a specified folder. Does an app like this exist?
I don't want a full podcast app because I want to use MortPlayer to play the audio files, not an all-in-one downloader/player app. I tried CarCast but I find not being able to change the seek time extremely frustrating. With MortPlayer, I can do that, as well as use the buttons on my bluetooth headset, etc, and a lot of other features.
Anyway, does such an app exist? A simple RSS mp3 downloader?
(A shell script that I can run via GScript would be fine as well.)
Google listen? Let it download for you, then play from the cache folder.

I think you missed the second paragraph above?
To clarify, I used Listen for months but I can't stand that it puts the feeds in my Google Reader. I only get podcasts from a few RSS feeds for my morning drive to work, and the feeds keep updating all day, every day, even on weekends. So to have the feeds cluttering up my Google Reader, which I use very frequently, was extremely annoying. I don't need to have the feeds updating constantly since I only use them once per day, especially the NPR Hourly Summary, which happens 168 times per week. That's why I switched to CarCast, so the feeds are out of my Google Reader.
I'm basically looking for an app (or a shell script), where I can click a single button and it would download the latest mp3 to /sdcard/downloads.
Is there anything out there that will achieve this simple purpose?
Then I can use MortPlayer to play them, which comes with a whole ton of other features that no other podcast app can provide, such as having a widget on my lockscreen, etc.

How to put ebook on sensation

Does anybody knows how to put ebook into your sensation? On SD card? And where? Any tips how?
dont forget the thanks button if you read it,

You can use Google Books, Amazon Kindle or Barnes & Noble Nook app.
They have free ebooks and you can buy books.
As for putting your own "ebook" on your phone.... need more information, what format are they in? You need to download a reader, and pretty much put it anywhere on your card.

or you can try Aldiko in the market. it allows you to import epub pdf and other formats
the built in eReader does a good job. Just put your .epub books in a folder name it eBooks or any name you want and the sensation will automatically import it. I have not tried other formats though but .epub works great!
I like de reader on it very much, had to sign in at kobe but that was no problem. Witch kind of extensions does the reader supports? Thanks for the quite reply. Regards from the netherlands

I love the reader app as well. Very nice transition between pages, as when flipping in a regular book . The format as mentioned a few posts up is .epub and you can create either a folder Ebooks or Digital Editions, drop them there and off you go reading .
Does it support cbr books?

After installing CM7 I had to find a new app for my ebooks and stumbled upon Aldiko Book Reader. It's very similar to the HTC reader but with a bit more functions though it lacks the page turn animations (no real loss IMO). It also turns off the light for the capacitive buttons when you lower the brightness of the screen to a certain point which is nice when reading at night.
Any one else notice that the native ebook reader app and book shelf widget is now missing or has been removed since the last update on Tmobile USA?

I love it to open books on the sensation. I now have a comic reader on it. It support .cbr . Is there a reader that convert cbr to epub? Because i like the turning page thing more then scrolling up and down. Or is the epub not for picture?
Hope anybody knows some convert program for cbr to epub

People, I think the point of this was to post "Non- Play Store" apps, as in ones only found on forums on XDA.

I think that the name and target of the thread is not clear enough.
It mentioned specifically "aren't too popular". So... wtf is 'What's up' doing with that?! And most of the rest.
Please only put apps that you found, use and not seen in the first pages on the forum. Do not make this a list with your apps... please!

The OP listed tasker as an app. Its on the play store. People can post whatever cool apps they use. If you don't like it, start your own thread.

This. And I mean seriously, how long until these apps hit market? It's the most available platform. A cool app is a cool app on xda or store
But we already have tons of "what's your favorite app" threads. It would be interesting to discover new sous that aren't already on the okay store. But it's whatever. Do as you please everyone.

New rule you have to put a short description for each app you mention
Aptoide uploader is really nifty. You make yout own private app store for your friends. I liked it over a competitor appsfire.

Nice j dee! I hate it when my youtube shuts off in the gym. Can't leave the screen on and put it back in my pocket
Come on peeps keep em coming. I like the list so far. It's small and precise not large and burgeoning. Let's go over something very relevant: STREAMING from your HD
Jbeans 4.2 Camera- Full Screen Camera (compared to 4.1.2) and gallery you could flash for your 4.1.2 phone
Mediahouse Player- An organized app that collects all the shared music videos off of shared directories on your computer use in conjunction with. Allows you to favorite directories/devices. Really neat app
mx player- easy ui can easily disable/enable hardware software encoding for audio and video during play
v player- like mxplayer, could be better with UI, but unlike MX player allows you to set buffer to a whopping 8mb...so longer initial load for video but plays back perfectly otherwise
ES file explorer- save network drives
I usually make the default player for ES v player and for media house mx player. Good setup. Mx Player allows you to manage defaults for video players in-app too. Another neat feature. Well worth the money for that app.
From the computer end there are a lot of options to stream (I made a post about this a while back...search on me) but I like PS3 Media server 1.70.1 for my PS3. It allows for real-time transcoding for devices where your video format (ie mkv) isn't available. I also install TVersity server on my computer end and both servers as well as the raw files allow me to wirelessly stream every tv show except for planet earth which has a ridiculous bitrate.
Only other thing to worry about on the computer end is to make sure your sharing settings etc are set up as openly as possible. I have a homegroup password and everyone in it is allowed to at least read my directories
Hey zetsui,
sure, I love my HOX and GNEX phones (by now even more than my PC) and why not participate in sharing cool underdog apps?
Is that Mediahouse player the one you can download from the Play Store? Sounds pretty usable to me

Mi sound recorder
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28295194
Way better than stock audio recorder. Can record as mp3 at 128kbit/s, good enough for me. Of course, you can increase it. Can record as ogg too.
Solid explorer
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.solidexplorer
Might be popular, but worth a mention anyway. Fast, free, full of useful features, no ads... Did I mention the slick ui?
Cpu adjuster
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ryosoftware.cputweaks
Like setcpu, but free. You can have 3 profiles in the free version. Ought to be good enough for beginners.
Also worth checking out: servers ultimate.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.icecoldapps.serversultimate
These apps are in xda too, but play store linking is more convenient.
Advanced Touchpad Remote Control
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.arcoid.advancedtouchpad&hl=en
Turns the phone's screen into a multitouch touchpad.
Perfect for Laptops with short HDMI cables.
