[Mod] Contacts.apk - Galaxy Tab Themes and Apps

I changed the application Contacts mainly for myself. Those brown wooden colors...
I would first have to thank you user agentdr8 for his deodex.
Without his help the apk would not work. Thanks.
How to:
EU-JK5
First, backup your existing Contacts.apk,
then just replace contacts.apk with root explorer (overwrite) and restart Tab. Done
YOU MUST DOWNLOAD contacts.apk as Mirror download (mediafire).

Must working on Euro Tabs. Im not sure for US.
Create backup of your stock contacts.apk, just in case...
Calendar is coming today.

If it FC did u clean dalvik?

JME (roto-4 also) is EU firmware

JME is EU firmware (device does not matter), so US does not matter either.
nope, I have not cleared the Dalvik Cache - I just reverted back and reboot

The reason for the FCs is because the version BuzzFuzz posted is from the JK5 rom, and does not appear to be deodexed, thus the incompatibility with the JME Contacts.odex file also located in /system/app. I'm trying to build a deodexed version that should work on JME and will post it shortly if I have success.

Are u working with baksmali -x variant ? or by another procedure

apktool and xUltimate. The issue I'm running into is the signing of the apk. This may only work on a fully deodexed framework & system (like the new Fast & Tabious rom) since the deodexed (and modified) Contacts can't be signed with samsung's cert.
How did you get around that limitation? I noticed your modified contacts.apk is still signed with the samsung cert?
EDIT: Nevermind Buzz, i figured it out. Just placed your modified pngs into the deodexed Contacts and it didn't require resigning. Attached is the deodexed Contacts.apk that should work just fine on JME. Remember to backup /system/app/Contacts.apk and Contacts.odex to somewhere else and then remove them and replace with the attached Contacts.apk, reboot.
Code:
adb push Contacts.apk /sdcard/
adb shell
su
remount rw /system
cd /system/app
cp Contacts.apk /sdcard/Contacts.apk.orig
cp Contacts.odex /sdcard/Contacts.odex.orig
rm Contacts.apk Contacts.odex
cp /sdcard/Contacts.apk .
chmod 644 Contacts.apk
sync
remount ro /system
reboot
EDIT3: Fixed wood header in Edit/New contact page.

Again, I learned something new. Thanks agentdr8.

Worked like a charm. Thanks
Sent from my GT-P1000 using Tapatalk

Glad it worked out. Since it's deodexed, it should work on most JM* roms, but I can't guarantee that.
Next up is the Calendar. Since my graphic editing skills are pretty abysmal, would you be interested in doing the editing work Buzz and I'll pack them into a deodexed apk?

Ah, somehow managed to find a gtalk.apk file on xda and got it running. But you seem to have taken out some google services too. Gmail doesnt exist in this nor can i bring it back from Titanium Backup. Any clues on that buddy?

What's the difference between the 2.21 and 2.34.1 Roms? both are Eclair, but 2.34 fixes for instance the Haptic bug?
I still have the hatpic bug in 2.34 but Goggles doesn't crash anymore.

Goggles does not crash for me on 2.21, so I do not think that would be a reason to move to 2.34.
2.34 is much snappier because it is without blur. Its the deblur central european rom.

[MOD] No Clock in Notification Bar for Overcome 1.3.0

I was never a huge fan of the clock in the notify bar where it is currently. On CM6-7 builds, there is/was a tool to disable it. Not finding such a tool for the tab, I proceeded to remove it myself. Below are my results.
I have removed it from the area by the battery and signal icons and placed it with the date in the pull down (see screenshots).
Install:
- Reboot into recovery
- Download attached zip file, extract and copy the services.jar file to your tools or platform-tools directory (depending on your setup)
- push services.jar to /system/framework/ on your device via adb
Code:
adb push services.jar /system/framework/
- Wipe Dalvik Cache
- Reboot
* The reboot will be longer than normal as we wiped the Dalvik Cache and it needs to be rebuilt (approx 3 mins for mine, could take as long as 10 though)*

its better to replace only on Version 1.3.0 of Overcome

[MultiDPI] Galaxy S Pack from Xan! UPDATED FOR GINGERBREAD!

Just in case someone missed the thread.
Since we don't have CWM, follow the instructions below
Download the GalaxySPack...
Unzip files in /system/app.
Backup your phone's file.apk that you are about to copy from GalaxySPack and also the odex file. (You can rename the files xxx.apk.bak, xxx.odex.bak)
Copy the files in your phone's /system/app/, reboot and there you go.
Done.
Don't forget to hit the "Thanks" Button for me is all I ask.
*** There is also the MultiDPI Video Player and Camera, but it doesn't seem to affect our phone. Should work on any DPI.
FOR Gingerbread Install.... (Other APK's are coming)
1. Download unsignedDialerTabActivity.apk
2. Rename to DialerTabActivity.apk
3. Backup your Original DialerTabActivity in \system\app
4. Copy new DialerTabActivity.apk
5. Hit the Thanks Button for me please (I actually did this one on my own)
Enjoy!
P.S. Music Player is the same for GB.

The zip contains apks. Basically you replace the apks from this zip into your /system/app
Like the DialerTabActivity.apk or MusicPlayer.apk. These apk's are modded to support most DPI changes. So you just replace away, but a good idea is to back your old apk hahaha....
Hope that helps.

Read the other thread about MultiDPI apks.
When you change DPI's certain things like the phone dialer doesn't scale correctly. These APKs does...
If you don't change DPI's on your infuse, don't worry about it.

Wait there are two files that you had to modify in your phone.
You replaced DialerTabActivity.apk from the .zip THEN you have to remove or rename DialerTabActivity.odex

Try it for the music.apk, its nice especially when you turn on visualize for a song. Its so nice on a horizontal screen on a 4.5" screen!
Awesomeness dood! I am going to try this right now
Okay, so I made the change and my thoughts:
Dialer works perfect, music player works too but my biggest concern is that my grid where I can place icons and the apps drawer is still in the top left corner.
It's almost like phone doesn't know I can put icons in the bottom right.
What do I need to change in order to fix that?
Basically the layout of the phone does not recognize all the extra space I have now?
How can I take a screenshot to show you guys?
It kinda looks like this. Any ideas?

cp /sdcard/settings/apps/DialerTabActivity.apk /system/app/
rm /system/app/TouchWizCalculator.odex
cp /sdcard/settings/apps/TouchWizCalculator.apk /system/app/
reboot
i use AWD Launcher to fix launcher problem
I used root explorer to copy the files over and set permissions.
It was launcher issue...I changed the launcher to launcher pro and it works like a charm now at 200 density for now. I might change it to 190 but I think 200 is a decent enough density
Thanks everyone

Dude 190 is WAYYY better.... at 200 there is a little oversharpness by samsung's filters. 190 really creates more of a rounded letter... Doesn't make that big of a difference.
Also in LauncherPro you can change the number of rows or columns on the home screens + have it automatically size widgets and placement of icons to get that even look.

Alright, clock/alarm works fine, I'll put it up in a minute, can't get dialer/phone to work. Haven't messed with the calendar yet.

I'm also changing the file names so you can test them out and keep the originals if you want, without having to reflash anything.

Yeeeahhh, didn't work...
I did just notice that whenever I messed with the file name, my shortcuts for dialer and contacts disappeared, linked apps, I guess. I'll have to mess with it later, leaving work in a minute.
If anyone else wants to try, try dialer.apk, contacts.apk, and contactsprovider.apk all at once. Try changing the file name of dialer.apk to phone.apk, or opposite, I don't have time to mess with it right now.
Hey im pretty new to android and only 16 and don't know much besides a few basic things but I do happen to have a lot of time on my hands so ill make my own attempts on making the stock dialer and contacts work and hopefully learn more about android and eventually make my own ROM when I feel like I fully understand everything. Hopefully within the next few months I could have an active role within the dev community. Anyone with important tips on anything at all that could help my efforts please pm me!
Lock Screen?
Any way to get the default ICS lock screen? That would rock.

Just to point out, the MMS.apk is not actually AOSP. It seems like samsungs GSII stock mms.apk

Yes, but allows 30 odd linked SMS before converting to MMS.
Works great on XWLP3.
Saved decompiling and recompiling the apk myself.
I don't know what changed, but if I try to push anything to system/app on my phone now, it won't stick. Ugh, guess I'll have to start all over.

Try fixing permissions in CWR first.

Yeah, I did every time I pushed anything to /app. Messing with 0.3 now on the 989, I'll see what I can get to work, lol.
I'm gonna love you guys when you figure out how to remove touchwiz dialer and replace it with aosp

I can only get v2 working on original 1 click, still updates dialer for the most part.
v3 has more, and should work will any of the newer roms, seen confirmed on MHXs superlite. It is a theme, not a new APK, but over-all gives the desired affect.

Alright, clock/alarm works fine, I'll put it up in a minute, can't get dialer/phone to work. Haven't messed with the calendar yet.

I'm really hoping the calendar works.

(How to) Working 15 toggle mod for stock 4.0.4 ROMs

I have seen lot of people looking for working 15 toggle mod and transparent/modded status bar
and notification pulldown for stock 4.0.4 roms. here is small guide-
Note- Changing systemui.apk should not be a big issue and you can always replace it with stock (keep backup), make sure to delete systemui.odex file but do not replace framework-res.apk manually (it may cause issues)
Make sure to choose correct theme version for your ROM.
Download any theme for 4.0.4 and extracted it, there should be 2 sub-folders in "system" folder, (app and framework), now follow these steps,
1. Go to "app" folder and copy both quick panel.apk and systemui.apk, paste these two .apks in system/app using root explorer (replace if prompted), fix permission and delete systemui.odex file (better to backup).
2. Go to extracted folder again and check "framework folder, it should have 2 files again, dont do anything with framework-res.apk. copy other file (lidroid-res.apk in my case) and paste in system/framwork folder using root explorer, fix permission and reboot.
I have tried flashing whole theme .zip after deleting systemui.odex file but it never worked, same issue reported by few other members, seems like replacing framework-res.apk is creating prob on stock roms, but above method replacing files manually is working fine.
If above method does not works then look HERE (post #18 onwards) for more info.
**I have not created any of these files and the credit goes to respective developers/themers.
You can share more.
***I know it should be already available somewhere, I have just tried to compile, so that users can easily access it.

Yes, I have tried one theme zip on stock 4.0.3 and it worked fine, its by Ashish (look for it in themes sec), just delete systemui.odex file (after backup) and flash theme zip via cwm.
To be on safer side you can also follow manual method, just download theme for any 4.0.3 rom, extract and follow instructioms above.

If you have deleted it already then it should not be there to delete but if you have reverted back to stock again then yes, delete it.

I am using blue theme from Kingdroid rom and not sure if can share that (already sent PM to PETKING for approval), but this theme is almost similar to mine, you can download appropriate version of theme and extract. and then follow OP. It includes more than systemui.apk I think, so be careful what you replace
Does this mod works on the I717 Note?

Do you mean the mod in post #13 link? I don't think N7000 themes will work with I717. But you can always try as changing systemui.apk manually (using root explorer) doesn't harms and you can always return to original safely (with few FCs though).
But do it on your own risk and only if you are sure about the procedure. (make sure to copy original files to SD before replacing them)
Note- Do not flash any N7000 theme to I717 using cwmr. And try systemui.apk only, nothing else like phone, framework-res.apk etc.
