Either root it or side load it. AT&T blocks all non market apps from being installed. Swype on my inspire was buggy anyway, so I uninstalled it.
Get SlideIT. It trumps Swype in IMHO. SlideIT was the first to be released, though some think it's the other way around and SlideIT is a knock-off from Swype. I prefer SlideIT for a number of reasons, but mainly because you can add words to the dictionary and do a spell check on the fly. Plus, with the new release of SlideIT's 3.2, you can adjust the size (dimension) of the keyboard. That is a huge plus. Next, they are working on skins, so they say.
Both are very accurate, both do the same exact thing, they just do auto-correction and spell check (after you are done texting and want to go back to correct misspelled words the app couldn't predict) in a slightly different way.
I recently side-loaded Shapewriter, and it is by far the most accurate of all, however the keyboard is terrible looking. It's just an old-school looking keyboard...and not to mention it is no longer in the market, and I don't think the developers are working on the app any longer. I actually think that Shapewriter was the first to introduce the trace technology (late 90's).
Look in the app section here on xda, there are many alternatives for input

Hi everyone,
I'd just a lil' question for you !
I've a friend on htc desire who has a small arrow just below the text that he can move to put the text cursor where does he want. The fact is he had a cyanogen rom on it so maybe it comes from here but i dunno and neither does he.
I've found on google that it could comes from the htc keyboard but nothing really concluding.
So I just would like to know if you have heard something about an app or something which could give me this arrow.
ps: i'm definitly not looking for arrows on keyboard but something like a bigger cursor than the common one that I don't consider precise enough
I think your friend is using some copy and paste app.

What's the size of this thing? Can you actually type on it?
that's so small. I don't see the practicality of this thing. thanks for sharing though
Looks great. Have you tried it with emulators? Any lag?
Sent from my LG-P990 using Tapatalk
Question are you on stock or custom firmware ? I bought the same keyboard a few weeks ago and it wouldn't run on my g2x but I was running stock.
Runs with all my Emulators and im on CM7 but the buttons are soft style so you can type very fast its a great must have tool and there is zero lag on anything you can even shut the screen on and off with one button

got mine for like 15$ from amazon a couple months ago, it works on stock and custom roms on my Vibrant, haven't tried my g2x though
If 15 dollars I would get that keyboard, but while searching youtube for some unboxings and reviews I found this gem.

so does this mean that we can use like an apple bluetooth keyboard with our devices? I have been trying a long time to figure this out.

The mini keyboard just arrived.
I can pair it but it says its not connected.
Anyone else encounter this?
I do not have much experience with Bluetooth devices.
My question would be why?? Seems like a novelty at best.
Might as well lug around a netbook/laptop if you're going to be lugging around a keyboard. That would get old in a hurry away from your office/home... and of course, 95% of people are using a PC when not mobile. Kinda defeats the purpose of a candy bar device.....to do away with an external keyboard
Well, for one, check out the link a few post up. Its a mini keyboard, about the same size of the phone its self.
Also, I am not totally sure on why it matters, I just want to get it working.
Personally, I wanted it for emulators, I tend to prefer Not a physical keyboard when playing games. I very much enjoy the extra space in the keys as well as the tack tile feedback it provides.
Hi, I've already searched and unless I am blind I haven't been able to find this so I figured I'd ask here;
I miss the look and functionality of Mediascape from 1.6 and would like a port of it to 2.3. Is this possible? I know that the stock music player now is probably faster but I still miss it. Any devs out there care to shine some light on this? Thanks a lot in advance and if this is surplus then by all means this can be deleted!
Cheers, Galcactus

developers from sony ericsson took more than half a year to port the one from 1.6 to 2.1, and it lags as hell, and they took another few months to fix the lags and add on a few more features such as one finger zoom. finally they gave it up on 2.3
now what do you think?
Well we are never going to even get the preview ROM of ICS yet here at XDA we have a relatively stable ROM working. So I guessed if the latest OS port is going well, then porting one pesky little app will be no problem. Also it doesn't hurt to ask, does it?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I feel your pain. I suffered serious withdrawal symptoms after upgrading form 2.1 to 2.3. As the honourable member says, mediascape is a bit of of an engima even for seasoned developers. Lets hope SONY come up with an alternative to the moded android app.
Once i saw this thread i was like (HOPES UP!)
one of the reasons i bought the x10 was because of the timescape and mediascape @[email protected] when they scrapped it in 2.3 i nearly cried T_T
So let's try and get a dev in to help us! Start up a petition?

if some one uploads the 1.6 framework (entire framework folder) and mediascape app in a zip. or point me to a 1.6 ftf or something i will have a go.

Will the 2.1 ones work? I still have my nandroid back up.. I just need to extract it.
There should be a forum containing all the firmwares of the x10. While I know little about actual developing besides what I've read and the methods to recover my phone, I believe that the 2.1 global generic stuff should be perfect (or at least, better than 1.6 - works better. If possible upload both as Pvy wanted 1.6 too) as for Pvy, thank you very much for taking on this little project. Once I get near a computer I will find the links for you. If someone beats me to it then make your you either upload the whole firmware or both the frameworks, the system apps and the de-odexed versions of the apps too. Thanks people, this is starting to kick off!!!

1.. Mediascape was laggy and tbh not worth the device that ran it x10 was too good for it, 2nd it cannot be brought over, i think wolfbreak may have attempted this (feel free to correct me if am wrong) and it wasnt possbile to do, its a dead feature, although u could always go back to 2.1 for it

Whilst I appreciate your views, I feel obliged to point out that it was buggy for various reasons; the x10 ran on 1.6, or 2.1 back then, both dubious iterations of Android with not even a JIT compiler, let alone the sort of sophisticated RAM managers we have now (I know not quite the same thing, just making a point). Also whilst I love my x10, even on the vanilla like OSs, e.g. cm7, the x10 lags unless pretty much maxed out with no apps installed. That is a hardware failure, our rather it's simply outdated. Finally while mediascape was laggy back then the x10 is capable currently of running most things from either 2.1 or even 1.6 relatively smoothly. If you were to compare things like quadrat scores you'd see a drastic improvement. In addition, I am hoping that the various tweaks available with different ROMs well help us to smooth the app in it's transition from eclair to gingerbread! Pvy, anything worthwhile to report?

For those who does not like the mediascape please don't pour cold water on our hopes. It was among the reasons why we bought the original x10 in the first place.
Remember the countless times their adverts have timescape and mediascape? so hush please and let us wait for the news from pvyparts.
hope OP not misunderstood my post lol. i was saying mediascape is really hard to port, because many other devs have tried before.
glad to see somebody is taking a look into it again, can't wait for good news to come!
honestly i hope timescape can be ported too! timescape on SE 2.3 looks totally nasty and it's extremely laggy..

I like this guy. Even I got my X10 because of mediascape and timescape and if someone manages to port back mediascape then I swear I'll never use any other music of photo viewing applications. That **** was the beast!
Does anyone know of a non force closing version of the xperia s wallaper for are x10's?
thanks
If you're talking about the live wallpapers then I'm afraid there aren't going to be any ports because of X10's hardware limitations.
Even if someone does manage to port it, it's going to be laggy and will 'devour' your battery in hours.
Here Wallpaper from Sony S!

Actually, it would seam the hardware limitation is not entirely true. It would appear to be more of a driver related issue as I have "Cosmic Flow" confirmed working on both FXP7&9 V114 up. With very little battery drain I might add(actually the least I've experienced in a live paper) I think mainly because of the way "Cosmic Flow" is set up, it only really moves w u touch it. Neadless to say I believe it is working properly.
NOT ON STOCK yet though but there may be hope of someday being properly ported(in my opinion not that big a deal but I can understand the attraction).
