Sprint hotspot hack? - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Is there anyway to use the hotspot on the HTC EVO 4G without having paying for it?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

Root it and use android-wireless-tether from the market.

Is there anyway without rooting my phone?

Not without paying for it. You can tether via usb for free with PDAnet, but to tether wirelessly for free you need to root.

Ok thank you all for all the info

I don't know if any one has found this but the incredible has been able to do it by changing the system software without rooting it. My friend did this and he was able to use the tether on/off switch on the settings menu without ever having to pay the extra amount. Does anyone know of a method like this for the EVO? I believe its called dun hack.

[Q] Wifi Tethering?

Well, I have a Samsung Galaxy S 4G from T-Mobile UNrooted. And I was wondering, do I have to root to wifi tether? I heard that you need to root for a Sprint Samsung Galaxy S, but what about:
Samsung Galaxy S 4G from T-Mobile (Not Rooted)
wifi tether as in mobile hotspot? nope, you should be able to do it without root ^_^

Alright, I'll try it.
T-mobile can add wireless hotspot to your phone for an extra $15/month. You could also tether with USB cable via pdanet. Those options would not require root.

A program that you may want to look into is open garden. Its fee in the market. It will turn you're phone into a wireless hotspot. You're phone does need to be rooted in order to use the program

[Q] How do I tether the droid charge with the stock service?

Is there a way to tether the droid charge without using any app just using the regular stock service.

Pay for the extra hot spot service. I don't believe there's another way around it if you don't root and install wireless tether app. 3.0 pre12 is best btw.

If you are rooted by now:
Use WIFI Tethering by OPENGARDEN .... Really easy setup + Widget works great.

I haven't had any problems with foxfi ...maybe its the user :what:

I tried them all and have a hard time to decide which one! I guess if it works for you then you should stay with it. One may worked for one but not the others, probably depend on your setup. Example, the none root required, will work great for none rooted users, but it make no diff to us, cause we all rooted here.
I heard there is file such as tethering2036.apk or tethermanager2036.apk and if you delete it will it work is this true? I do not have the phone with me now so I can not check.

Unlimited 4g workaround

Unlimited 4g. I'm sure you've all heard about it. I went and checked it out. Apparently the only catch is you can't hotspot. But since I'm rooted and running cm7 I should be able to still use hotspot with a third party app, right?

Tethering is built into cm7, no need for an app.. and you might need to change the user agent on the device you tether so you don't get the tmobile redirect.

I am on the unlimited 4g, if I use Firefox, default settings, it seems to work fine. IE blows in the first place, but for the sake of mentioning it, and doesn't work, routes everything to a page telling me to buy tethering. I can also torrent just fine. I guess part of it is just the port it's set to listen on, 80, and if there is activity on other ports, so what.
Edit: also, SSL sites work.

I use the hotspot for my laptop and my lady's g2x. She is on the monthly 4g I'm not concerned with using my laptop, it's her g2x that worries me. I don't see how tmobile would catch on. But I wanted to run it by you guys before switching and potentially voiding my contract

so what your saying here is that if i switch to the New Unlimited Nationwide 4g data package i wont be able to tether my tablet to my phone?
That's what they told me but (I may be wrong) if you are using a custom rom or just rooted with a thrid party hotspot app tmobile want be able to detect or stop you, right?

Yeah, only sometimes it gives a tmobile redirect screen. When they happens i change the user agent
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda app-developers app
So far it's not given me a problem at all.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
Nevermind catching a tmobile redirect on my laptop. Working on getting around it
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
I use Google Chrome & change the user agent. Give that a go.
How do you do that without an add-on
I figured it out. I sometimes forget Google answers all.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
bit the bullet and switch to the unlimited 4g plan and i havent had any problems with surfing the web or streaming media on my tablet tethered to my phone. i have gtab 2 with cm10 and g2x with cm7.

(Q)Tether/hotspot

I don't have hotspot and tether on my contract, is there a ROM that will allow this? On my other phone (T-Mobile) they could detect if you were using tether or hotspot without paying and shut it down. Is this the case with Verizon as well?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
Pretty much any custom ROM should have the native tether working fine without vzw knowing. Some ROMs use an app by Treve (I believe) but either way, yes you can tether.

wifi tether for stock unrooted?

hello i was wondering how we can wifi tether without being rooted? usb is ok but wifi would be better
Sent from my ADR6300 using xda app-developers app
yes you can, did u try? should work
usb tethering works with pdanet i believe it was but i gave not found a wifi tether solution.
Sent from my ADR6300 using xda app-developers app
wifi tether works with built in settings at least on xt 925 stock, make sure u either JUST try without security or just use number as security. I know it works both rooted and unrooted.
does that cause you to get the mobile broadband connect fee?
Sent from my ADR6300 using xda app-developers app
no there s no fee , you are just sharing your own internet that you pay already for, depending where you are an dyour carrier, there may be a limit to how much you can use , maybe 4-5GB but that depends...:good:
