Hi Guys im new to this forum. New as in just joined today. I have a HTC Wildifre with 2.2 Froyo (Sense UI). Not a rooted one cause i dont know how to do it. Is it possible that the lock screen of my wildfire could be changed into the standard Froyo lock screen without rooting my phone?

Hi, as the new htc phones are coming out (desire s, wildfire s, etc) I've noticed (watched a few videos of mobile phone convention) the they're running gingerbread but it's not the gingerbread with black screens, black phone dial, black notification bar, etc. It seems to be white (dial, keyboard,etc) so my questions is. What's the difference between the gingerbread, let's say, (CM7, Oxygen,etc, black font ones) and this new one that's coming with the new phones ? Is this the gingerbread update that's going to come soonish ota. Also, if the phone is updated to ota gingerbread would the rooting process change ? I currently have an original/unrooted desire but thinking of rooting but not sure if should wait for update or if I accept ota update and rooting process changes would need to learn all over again how to root, etc. Any advice/info much appreciated.

The vanilla Gingerbread appearance on the devices you mention is being covered up by the manufacturers skin. When Gingerbread OTA comes for your Desire the appearance of it isn't going to change as the 'Sense' bloat will still be there.

I'm going to purchase the Desire S, and I wonder if it will have the Sense 3 or 2.1. Also I want to know what are the differences between them. and if I can install it on my phone (in case it is not already on the ROM).
It shipped with 2.1 and it slightly might get sense3 offically in future update

devs already ported sense3 from HTC sensation to Desire S it has some
bugs hope will be fix in the future.
Waiting for the Sensation to be rootable and the first thing I want to to is remove the T-Mobile startup/shutdown screens and port over the stock HTC Sensation ones.

Well first of all, the Salsa screen is bigger, 3.6 inches. Whereas ChaCha has a 2.4 inches. So it won't fit in the case.
Another issue could be battery consumption for the bigger screen. Other than that I have no technical knowledge about the differences between these two (different connectors/power input/etc.). You could try it as an experiment, would be interesting to see the results.
No sure what made you to think replace Chacha screen and ROM with Salsa?
Technically you cannot as these phones has different screen size and unique connection points and casings are different. and even if you fix the screen it will not look like a phone it will be just a test specimen
And on regarding ROM's you can always port ROM from one phone to another but it is not cake walk. Refer andriod development and ROM Chef's sections for porting guides
Well the past days I have ported Sense 3.5 to the HTC ChaCha thanks to .sense it runs fine with battery running all day and have at least 80% by the end of my day. But I'm just in the progress of fixing the WiFi before releasing it. But if you really want the Salsa software I don't see why you can't apart from squashed sense launchers. Thanks to you all for help, i just want to have a bigger screen, if replacing chacha screen with salsa one worked, i can repack the modified chacha in a modified salsa case, where the keyboard will be useless if the soft keyboard is installed, anyway i will test it and post the results with pictures...
