[Q] Modifying musicwidget.apk?

Hi All,
Is there any way to modify the musicwidget.apk in stock 2.3.3 ROM so that it can work with ADW Launcher?
After using the new stock music player, I have started liking it too much and want to get rid of all 3rd party music players. The only issue is that the music widget cant be used on other launchers. Can we make some changes like changing the manifest file or some other code so that it will work in the 3rd party launchers?
I need to know how to modify all widgets to use them on other lunchers ..can some one help us?
yes . its possible , ill look into it tonight . can you pm me a link for the music player? also pm for further info .

ok, no go on this yet. meanwhile I have been discussing offlist with phillu97 on the possibilities and found out that there is a widget in the market called "Phantom Music Widget" which works with all stock and most 3rd party music players.
It works by emulating the headset button event. However the implementation is too buggy. Anyone here willing to experiment with the codes from Phantom widget to see if it works out for the musicwidget? I have the app and can attach the apk if someone wants it for experimental purposes.
its way too ... complicated. I just wont budge no matter what. But try widgetsoid. I'm thinking of building that from ground up, but only with the play, pause, fwd and rwd features. its sorta gonna look like the powercontrol.
unless anyone else have any ideas?

Why not re-use the skin & graphics from the existing widget? In anycase the stock widget has those 3 buttons only.
cos that defeats the whole purpose since you cant use it on other launchers

[Q] List of Apps

Can anyone put together a list of apps that would be good to get my new infuse started off with. I want to customize it, but I want to do it right. So what's the best launcher, clock, lockscreen, whatever. Let me hear it.
this is ALL personal preference here.........
Then let me hear yours!

ADW launcher is really nice. it is very customizable, and lets you view the phone in landscape mode, which the stock launcher does not allow. the free one is good, but the paid one is much better (great homescreen transitions, animations).
i also needed to replace the stock music player, since it wont play FLAC (lossless) audio files - so i use poweramp. it has a really nice full screen widget (takes up an entire home screen, but there are also smaller widget options) so that you don't have to launch the app every time. i use the free version, not sure what benefits the paid version offers. it does skip slightly when i get an email or text, however it doesnt really bother me.
it is also nice to get a visual voicemail service going, especially if you are coming from iphone or blackberry. i tried PF fusion for a while - but google voice is much better. just sign up for an account if you don't have one already, download the app, and it will guide you through setup. it also has a nice widget option.
those are some basics for you - but it really is just a matter of personal preference and experimentation.
I personly would recomend a few apps to help
VitalPlayer - As I like it better then the default
Dolpfin Brwser - the guester are great add on to it.
Save this page - to read web pages when I am on the train underground
Doggcatcher - to down load your pod cast when you plug it in and over wifi instead of eating your battery or data plan.

music on galaxyS2

i have just switched from iphone to android i am really liking the ios but there is some problems i have with the android os one is the music app on the galaxy i really don't like how its setup and looks compared to the iPhone's is there anything i can do to make it more like how it was on the iPhone, then one thing i really miss is being able to control my volume on my lock screen and that little double click menu on the iPhone so is there anyway that i can control my music volume on my gs2 from the drop down and lock screen if there is no way to do any of that is there at least something i can use to make the iphone headset volume control buttons work on android?
As for as I know, Widget Locker allows you to do everything you want and more. Volume on lock screen; media player widget on lock screen (without double click). It costs 3$ on the market, though. I bought it, and it's definitely worth it.
You might also be able to get away with Go-Locker (you'll need the go Launcher -- my only gripe), I'm not sure if that allows widgets; it allows volume control.
Samsung Galaxy S2 needs special settings that are made obvious by both applications, if you follow descriptions and alerts.
There are plenty of Music Player apps on the Market. Take a look if the one your phone came with doesn't suit your needs.
I also want to know if you can block streaming since droid wall doesn't work ok ics

i got it but i dont like how its a background thing you know like i like to go into my task manager and end every thing a lot but i guess i wouldn't do that while im listening to music so its not a problem also i couldn't find the volume controls :[
Everything's a background thing. =p
The application has specific settings that allow you to use your volume keys on your lock screen. Go through all of the options.
I am getting this phone in a month or two & I was wondering for curiosity's sake if its music player has a background play option, or something like it.
isongs.pk
If not the stock music player, then one of the hefty amount of existing applications surely allows background music. Multitasking is no big deal for Android.
Poweramp.

What would you like to see implemented in CM10?

So, now that CM9 is stable, and CM10 is under development, what are you hoping the developers merge?
Personally, I have a few changes I'd like to see.
One, I'd like Apollo to be replaced, or repaired. No landscape support, a white-holo theme that doesn't fit with the black-holo stock ICS/JB look, and downloading album art from a data connection rather than using the embedded album art...all in all, I hate Apollo music, and I think many would agree that it is an inferior music player. At the very least, allow a setting to use the embedded art, and give it a black, rather than white, UI.
I'd like the lockscreen on phones to be enabled for landscape, and for tablet lockscreens to be enabled for portrait, and to either respond to the orientation settings, or the auto-rotate setting. So far, the lockscreen orientation is not well implemented. I know it is capable of using landscape, because in CM9, I disabled auto-rotate with the notification bar toggle, while in landscape, and was able to use a landscape lockscreen, so it's there. It just needs to be enabled.
Better unity between the Cyanogen tweaks and stock android. For example, the power toggles in the notification tray, and the power widget. The backlight setting is a good example - in the notification tray, it's dim, 25, 50, 75, 100, auto. In the widget, it's dim, 40, 100, auto. I'd like to see the widget either use 50 as the midpoint, or the notification tray to use increments of 20, rather than 25, so that it has 40 as a midpoint. Or better yet, make both the widget and pulldown toggles exactly the same - make the widget use 25% increments, or the notification bar use the stock settings. The backlight is only one example, but I think there are a few easy tweaks that would make it feel more "unified." Even the wallpaper menus - if you look at the menu for choosing the Cyanogenmod wallpapers, it has a slightly different UI than the menu for stock wallpapers. If you add the static menu button to the navigation bar, it is visually different from the "normal" menu button that shows when apps need it, even though it serves the same purpose. I'd like to see CM integrate cleanly with what remains of stock Android.
I'm not completely sure if this one is possible, because I don't think the GPU uses a governor like the CPU, but rather a set clock-rate, but if possible, I'd like to see the ability to set the GPU in the performance settings.
Ringtones. So far, to enable a song as a ringtone, you need to use Apollo. So, for people who removed it for another music player, or kangs that don't have it, they can't set a song as a ringtone. Also, once you pick a song as a ringtone, it stays in your ringtones menu, so after a while, it gets cluttered. I think a cleaner implementation of ringtones is in order. Rather than implementing the song as a ringtone, once you choose a song, it should gray out the default ringtones, and use the song. Something like "enable custom ringtone" checkbox, and once checked, it gives you a file browser to pick a song, and grays out the stock ringtones, or something along those lines. This would allow people who don't use Apollo to set a song as a ringtone, and would prevent clutter in the ringtone list.
The Galaxy S3 has a feature that allows the phone to stay awake while you are using it. Rather than timing out if it detects no input, it will use the front camera with face detection to see if you are still looking at the phone, and if you are, stay awake. This would be nice to put into the settings.
And lastly...a file browser. CM7 had one, so I don't get why they would take a step back and remove it from CM9. It's not hard to get one, but it would be nice to see integrated.
And yes, I know Steve Kondik won't read this. But, where CM is a community ROM and anyone can submit code, I think this would be a good place for users to submit ideas and feedback, while being exposed to developers. I'm willing to bet if the community submits ideas that the developers like, it can greatly increase the quality of Cyanogenmod, which is already the best out there, making it perfect.

The lock screen portrait for tablets and vice verse is weird an uncomfortable. For music, god get Google play music or a new Apollo theme its not so hard. The only GPU all that does good is chain fire 3d, which is incompatible with jellybean. Ringtones can be implemented without Apollo. The stocky feeling is still there. The Ui can't be completely the same as stock. And for a file browser, devs are already including oi file explorer in jellybean and if not, DOWNLOAD IT. DON'T BE LAZY. And suggest these to your phone devs, not here. As I am already running a non alpha stable release of jellybean on my phone, there are many things you can do to fix these yourself.

i know there is a control to set the volume down if the volume is very loud and you switch to your headset to take care of your ears
but it doesn´t turn the volume down before switching to the headset so the music could be loud for 1 or a half second
and it is good if you want to hear music with another volume on phone speakers then headset
the feature is not to important but i hope that they could fix it, that the volume changes after switching
Hi if these can happen in cm10 it would be fantastic..
1. Sounds of call and music can be played through different speakers ie headset, Bluetooth or speakers separately.
2. Two or more media players able to play on different speakers.
3. We can mix call and music so the person other side of call can here music also..
4. We can record audio from different source like Mic,call,FM or music separatly at same time
5. There should be a mixture interface from which inputs and output can be controlled independently..

How about separate volume controls per program? Using A2DP with the cars stock stereo works amazingly well for almost everything. Phone calls and music are fine, but navigation is almost impossible to hear and alerts are deafening. It would nice to be able to adjust the volume of just Google maps versus the rest of the programs, for example.
I actually like Apollo, just wish it rotated.
As for a complete longshot: Maybe a better car dock? I don't know how many people use car docks, but they're almost all terrible and completely unintegrated with the programs. The dock's I've tried just launch the music, podcast or maps program...I could do that with the stock launcher. Also, with the phone in dock mode it's hard to hit the buttons. The touch interface is expecting a decisive press or swipe, but that's difficult when the phone is at a fixed point (on the windshield, for example) and you're finger is hovering around it...hitting bumps and whatnot.
Better gesture actions. Some very cool stuff is offered out of the box by the Samsung SIII and incorporating that into CM10 would be great.
Selfishly, I'd love to see support for popular older phones (Droid Inc) but I see why they are dropping support for older phones - you have to keep the new shiny phones working before you bother with the old ones....

This one I especially would like to see, too. Its the one and only feature I miss from stock Samsung, and the replacement apps available in play store are, well, not perfect to say the least. Despite this, face awake is certainly a feature that should be included in the ROM (assuming of course it is wanted - but as you point out, its a wish thread :fingers-crossed.
Regarding Apollo, my two cents are that it should probably be split off from CM development entirely. Not sure what the rest is thinking, but personally I don't use it anyway, and giving it to a dedicated team might help getting some load off CM development after all its "only" a music player. Again, just my personal view from a complete naive outside point of view.
File Browser - I'm actually undecided. Personally, for example, I use a replacement anyway. But on the other hand its a basic component of Android OS, so it also has some logic to keep a rather simple one as fallback option in case of problems.
I disagree a bit with the performance tweaks. For sake of release stability I'd actually keep them out completely, since users really knowing what they do in these advanced options can easily use community build kernels optimized for this. Same argument as above: keep CM focused (and avoid unnecessary bug reports, too) and leave the luxury-addons to dedicated teams. Use the strength of the community :highfive:
And, last not least, also my thanks to all people involved in CM development. It is outstanding work, providing us with a competitive alternative and a great example of community-driven development Keep going! :good:
The pop up text that CM recently implanted in source I think, for every cm10 rom
this right here......is my.. pretty boy swag!
I'd love to see more integration with JB UI, list mode rather than this tiles in 'artist section' - i think all of those should look the same. Also music controls on lockscreen - I'd really love to have that sony's solution - when u see lockscreen you just swipe clock for music controls, swipe back to see clock - it's lighter, more elegant and u don't always unlock your phone to change music, the current look is a shame. I hope apollo won't be forgotten cuz currently it stands out comparing to rest of the software : C

Android 8.0 features Notification dots and Picture in picture NOT working

So this morning I noticed that 8.0 is available for my device, single SIM XZ Premium. So I immediately upgraded.
After testing things out, I found out that there is no way to get notification dots and PiP to work.
As for the dots, the dot does appear on the App icon. However long pressing the icon doesn't bring up any notifications. I only get the standard delete and app info options. And for certain apps the quick launch functions, such as New Tab for Chrome etc. I can't get notification dots to work. I made sure I didn't disable it accidentally, as it took me a couple of hours to comprehend what the hell notification channels are, and what Notification dots are called in my language (hungarian).
But no, I have it enabled on a system level, and on an app by app level as well. For the apps I've tested. Messenger, Viber, some misc. apps I use. I've read that on Pixel phones, only the stock launcher supports the dots. Is it possible somehow the Xperia stock launcher didn't get support? Would be a major oversight, but I mean it is possible.
Also PiP doesn't work either. I checked, and it is enabled for all my apps that support it. Tried it with Netflix, Chrome playing full screen video, VLC player. For VLC you have to also enable an in app setting, but it still doesn't work with any of them. I can't try with YouTube since my country still doesn't have Red. Also I heard the Google Maps app is still rolling out pip in updates, so I didn't bother with that either.
Is this an issue for anyone else too, or am I missing something?
So far I'm enjoying Oreo, my phone became super fast, which shocked me, as I didn't expect this much of a speed difference. Animations look a lot smoother. And I'm really starting to dig this new notification channel thing. Really helps me customize all my different app notifications.
I have only been able to get pip working with google maps and chrome when playing a video, but I had to try it twice for chrome to actually do it, since then it has been working without issue though. For notifications I have the same thing where the quick options show up but not the notification, to view the notifications I still have to pull down the notification bar. I tried netflix and youtube but pip refused to work, it just kept going to the homescreen, I haven't tried vlc.
I will also say that I am enjoying Oreo and how much faster the phone is, it shocked me as well because it really is significantly snappier when jumping between apps or going back to the homescreen and opening something new. I have also actually started using the google assistant and some of the features it provides.
Just install internet beta from Samsung... And you have picture in picture...

Interesting. I've tried out Maps just now and it indeed does work. I don't know what's the problem with the other apps then...
Notification dots still don't work though. Also I haven't been able to use the instant apps either. The option never comes up. Wish shopping app supposedly has an instant app version, but no matter what, I can't use it in instant version, Only full install.
Also adaptive icons aren't that adaptive, as the stock Xperia launcher has no option to choose which icon variation I want to use (square, round, teardrop etc)
I also haven't been able to figure out how to use the Autofill framework, which would give me the same options for autofill within the OS as I get with Chrome on web forms.
These features seem to be just straight up missing, or I don't know where to find them.

That's what we're saying, we can't get pip to work with youtube, netflix, or vlc. I really want to use pip mostly for youtube and netflix, so until I am able to do that I really don't care that much about this feature.
You can still move or delete apps in the menu, but you can now decide what press + hold on an app does when going to the settings of the app folder/launcher.
Update
I have downloaded Nova launcher and Lawnchair launchers, and neither seems to support the Oreo features, but instead it seems they have their own implementation of app shortcuts and badges.
So the problem has to be with the Xperia Home launcher.

Is there any way to use YouTube in PIP mode?

Youtube currently blocked the workaround with the 'window' keycode. however there's OG Youtube - it's a modded youtube which has a recent youtube version as base. It has PiP, background playback and an option to download the video. Although the PiP is what i'm looking for. So far there are no downsides. You need to get XDA labs which has a pretty cool repo.
Try it here https://labs.xda-developers.com/store/app/com.google.android.ogyoutube

PIP works with VLC. Enable background playback in VLC settings . Only thing is it doesn't work like chrome where you just have to press the home button. In this case you have to select PIP mode(bottom left option in the attached screen shot) before you switch to any other app.
You need youtube red subscription for pip.
1. PiP works fine. Though you need a red subscription for Youtube in order for it to work with Youtube.
2. Instant apps work fine for me. There was this tetris game I was able to play without installing.
3. Autofill works fine too.
4. Long tapping the app icon doesn't seem to bring up notifications. Disappointing, since I was really looking forward to that feature.

There are plenty of features that are not here..... Another obvious example is the xperia dialer app. which is on the same 3.0.0 version as it was in August and looks nothing like it's advert.
It's more of a marketing thing. Look here! Look here! Shiny!Yet I believe most of those presented features will arrive at some point in time under Oreo and that's why they were presented - not as a done thing but more of a 'soon to arrive'. FYI notification dots are still not available on the beta release. Hopefully more updates will come.... sometime.... maybe spring next year?
Didn't know PiP required YouTube red, useless, it's like YouTube is trying to destroy itself with everything they do recently.
It seems like we are in a full beta test, and would go on until oreo 8.1 would be released.... It's astonishing Google Pixel and Pixel 2 have a lot of problems and bugs with oreo update XD
