Call of Android Boot animation (UPDATE) - EVO 4G Themes and Apps

I have been a member since grabing the HD2 (US) and learned a lot from the developers here (I lurk and read). I have taken advantage of their knowledge and the the wiki, to which I thank everyone for all their work. Until recently I was always wanting to find a way to contribute back to the community and after getting the EVO, rooting, and messing around with some things I thought I would share the bootanimation I have been working on.
It is my very first one, so go easy, but I hope you enjoy. It is a little lengthy and the fps bogs down a little but I always wanted this to be my boot image. As usual, you assume all responsibility for any damage you do to your phone. If you need help, search, or shoot me a PM and I will be happy to answer questions when and where I can.
If you do happen to like my animation, awesome! I will take requests if anyone is interested and within the scope of my free time.
If you do not like my work, your entitled to your opinion, all I ask is for constructive criticism.
Hope you all enjoy!

UPDATE:
User Tiffany84 was so kind to make a complete package you can install from recovery for desire based roms. Also thank the user myn for posting the preview and link within the body of this thread. Thank you both for your help!

Here is a flashable zip. Just place on root of sd. Boot into recovery and wipe cache and dalvik. Then just flash like you would a rom. This has the sound included so you need to be on a sense rom in order to flash this because aosp roms don't have sound for the animation and the boot animation is located in a different place on a aosp rom.

Tiffany84 has come through again making a zip install from recovery for aosp roms, you can pick up this zip from the quote below:

This is a flashable zip of the bootanimation. This is for aosp roms only. This doesn't have the sound because I don't think it's possible to have sound for the bootanimation on a aosp rom. If your on a sense rom I have also uploaded a flashable version for sense roms that has the sound included. It's on page 3.

If anyone has questions, feel free to ask
UPDATE 2:
Recently optomized the animation, original recipe, smaller file size for the new year's diet. Also tweaked the sound and its damn near perfect. The new animation seems to run a little smoother and quicker, but that could just be me.
*These are not flashable via recovery, you must use adb or copy them to your sdcard and move them to the proper system file directory. The flashable versions created by Tiffany84 are the previous version.
**User roscoenr has just uploaded flashable zips from recovery for either type of rom. You can find those on page 8 for anyone interested. Thanks for the help roscoenr!
Enjoy!

i will rock it when rls5 is dropped 2nite!

Great animation, good choice in using the World at War setting. I'll try it out once I get home.
Much appreciated.

THIS IS HOT!!!! I'm loving this. Will be flashing tonight!

Ive only tested this on my EVO so far. The HD2 is waiting for a new digitzer, I broked it.
If anyone tries this out without the audio let me know how the performance of the animation is, please and thanks.

Works Perfectly. Audio Isn't that off

That looks pretty slick man
Did you use an app for it or do the film effect by hand? I've been wanting to do something similar to that but I don't have the time to do it manually.

Basically I took the originally title screen movie for Call of Duty World at War and used it as a background template. Most of the film affects are from that video, the android logo's and text were screened in by hand with photoshop with the exception of a few orginal frames I had to throw in for consistency. The pain was when I output the frames to png format I had to change all the pictures file numbers by hand to get them in order, not once, or twice, but 6 times because of trial and error. I swear I can type adb commands in my sleep now as well lol.
Typing the correct numbering "animation_00001, animation_00002" and so on is a pain lol Looking forward to the need for speed challenge now

I have created an HD video of how it would look like on the phone. The Audio Might Slightly Be More Off Than It Should.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQHaHnQJmCs
Edit: Rebooted my phone and found out I did the audio wrong.

This is awesome.. Tried both with and without sound and it's sweet either way.. Prob gonna stay with the sound for now...
Swyped from my myn powered evo using the XDA app... Become a mynion..you won't regret it!

How do I apply this to my Evo..i want to try this out
Swyped by Gatordon & his Evo

shoulda put apple apples on the axis soldiers heads and android heads on the allied heads lol

ok, noob questions. Is this flashable, if not how do I install it cause I'm loving it and want it BAD. Excellent work dude.

Been trying to flash this but I keep getting this message in recovery while trying to flash it "can't find update script". Anyone have any idea on this?

[Sneak Peek] Who wants some Rotary goodness? Returning soon to a Sense ROM near you.

After more bootloops than I care to share, I couldn't believe it when this one (see below) loaded up, and it didn't bootloop, a few minutes ago!
FWIW, I am running Fresh ROM (HTC Sense).
EDIT: For those just joining the conversation, this project has become much bigger than just rotary lock below. See Here for more information regarding additional features coming with this pending release.

Hmm, I was just wondering, any way you could make one similar, but with the look of Myn's HTC sense lockscreen? The black with white text and green HTC EVO on the sides, etc... somehow just so it matches Myn's RLS 5 theme... any way to make one similar to that? I'd try my hand at it, but have no photoshop skills whatsoevar LOL

Once I release, themers can do with it whatever the heck they want. That's up to them. I focus on the code .
Lol, I've literally had this up and running on my phone for 30 minutes, after days of work, and I'm already getting requests for mods

Thanks. Still tinkering with some things.
This ended up being a "hybrid" of my original port from the Hero back in the day, with roots from the original motorola droid stock ROM, merged with elements from the CM ROM release.
Still working on a few things. Sucks though, as it has required edits to multiple framework files once again...
absolutely outstanding
Check out the second pic I just added to the OP. Notice I mentioned "hybrid" above? I was able to pull in the music controls from CM for the bottom of the lockscreen as well.
You are brilliant, JS.
We all appreciate your works, and I do believe that nearly all of us use them even if we don't know it.
Thanks for making this a better phone, again.

Ha, I think you're right.
The dilemma is, when releasing, is the "base" starting from the Power Control Widgets framework, stock, both? With music controls, without. Option to go back and forth between slider and rotary, etc.
Yikes.
Looks great I will be keeping an eye on this really like your work.

This has been on my todo list ever since getting the EVO back in October. The darn Power Control Widgets have been taking 100% of my "free" time.
I wanted to step away from that for a bit and work on something else.
It's more fun to get something new going, than it is to keep working on tweaks for the same thing (that gets boring).
Will this cause the alarm clock issue?
I would love to have this it looks awesome.

Old:
Took me about the whole day, I started off from not even knowing what the hell a desc.txt to successfully making this boot animation all by myself.
I kinda feel proud
The quality is kind of low ress, this is my first work, so I will refine it, but I want to share what I got so far.
Suggestions and feedback are certainly welcomed!
Please tell me what you think about it.
Make sure to do a Nandroid backup!
It's signed and zipped, so all you gotta do is install from recovery no need to push.
Tested on Myns RLS5

I am actually going to be working on a Modern Warfare/Black Ops version here in a couple weeks. I can put together a short tutorial for you via PM if you need, in the meantime though there should be some out there already. Just do a search and some should pop up.
I've searched for a tutorial but all I find is the file structure for the desc.txt file. I need a tutorial more on the lines of the tools used to capture video and convert to pngs. I'll take one of those tutorials if you don't mind. Or a link to one.

UPDATE: YAY TEST SUCCESS! If you're already on this theme you need to flash back to pnp then go download the updated link (i'm uploading now and will update the first post) usb is now working and batt mod is too! All that's left is getting the button text to white and fix the charge animation, but other than that this should be ready for daily use!
Downloaded. Backing up and then I'll test it. Thanks for fixing it so fast!
No prob, when you're done with that.. lol test this one ;
[updated main post with final version]
This should have a working charge animation thats hybrid (starts the animation from where you're charging from and what percentage it's at)
The first works as advertised and haven't found any problems you're not aware of.
I'll download the 2nd one now.
Which wallpaper are you using for the carbon fiber? can you link it?
Edit:
Have you noticed the progress bar seems to flicker? An example of this is when uninstalling an app. I'm not sure if it's supposed to do this as part of the animation however it appears that one of the frames may be reversed?
Also - when you add a shortcut to a contact it appears the frame that is usually around the picture is gone.

No harm, no foul. But yeah, it was taken straight from the anime. I didn't pick the words.

Update: Tried it on my EVO running Myn 2point2. Looks SWEET.

Attaching a flashable zip (updater) if anyone needs it.
Just so everyone knows, the quote is originally from Catcher in the Rye. And the rest of the quote, to paraphrase, is "that way, people would have to pass me notes on slips of paper, and I wouldn't have to talk to people."
The quote is a coping mechanism for the lead character.
Just thought that might clear things up a bit.
Omg awesome!!!
Animation looks good, but I think one small change could make it a little better. With the Text scrolling clockwise, to read it your eyes have to play "Catch-up" with the movement. If it would be possible to reverse the text scrolling, it may be a little easier on the eyes. Just an opinion.

If its a flashable zip then just flash it like you would a rom through recovery.
Else you would need to use adb.
I dig the animation, but is there any way to make a little faster/smoother? It just seems a bit slow and laggy when booting up.
Just nitpicking though, great job OP!

I would absolutely use this. Very nice!
Looks Great!
Well, this looks awesome. I can't wait to see the finished product.
Wow! definitely an upgrade from the grey
awesome!
Definitely like it. This could just be my own personal idea but I think no button backgrounds would be kinda sweet. Maybe I'm just a big fan of a minimalist theme but that seems to be what you're going for.
I get that you can do this... But I don't really get the point. How often are you actually in recovery?
Seems it would be better time spent on a theme that you use all the time instead.
Looks nice though.

I don't know, man. I figure that some people care about the aesthetics of their device, and as a designer, I jump at any chance I have to improve an interface. I've already made my homescreen theme, so why not make a matching twrp theme?
There honestly is no point, really; twrp is fully functional as is. But if there is something that I can do to even remotely benefit the community, then why not? I'm learning in the process and hopefully this is an intro into some bigger projects.
Looks great! Programmers need designers.
Theme updated and download added! Check out the main post for more. Some interface features were added, such as a more stylish usb mounting page, about/info page, and more. Check it out!
Thanks again for all the positive comments everyone!
Very nice, it's very Metro-themed (from Windows Phone). Is it easy to create custom themes for TWRP? I'd like to have a go at it.

Thanks, man. Believe it or not, that's been my style of UI design for years--way before Windows 7 Phone came out. So now, I feel much less original.
Theming TWRP is actually pretty easy. The .xml is easy to understand and pick up if you've had even just a tiny bit of experience with something as simple as HTML. The most tedious thing is designing the theme and creating the 73 images my theme uses.
Update in the works!
I'm removing the option to wipe sd-ext, since it's non-existent on the Fire, as well as fixing the progress bar issue. I'm also optimizing images and cleaning code to reduce the file size. Any more suggestions while I'm doing some editing?

I apologize for being off topic but.... What case is this?
Hello everyone. I'm very interested in installing this theme for TWRP but it is my first time installing a theme for TWRP. Do I copy a drop the whole Rar/zip file to SDcard/TWRP directory or do I go into the zip file and copy and paste the folder named "THEME" into SDcard/TWRP directory?.. just tryna be careful.

It's the Acase that is on sale for Prime customers.
Got it on this deal: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356838
Not the best craftmanship, but it's tough and thin.

You got it! Just drop the 'theme' folder into your TWRP directory and reboot into TWRP. Make sure you don't touch the 'ui.zip' file inside the theme folder; TWRP is pretty picky with loading these things. Enjoy, bro!
