[Q] is there an android for dumbies thread? - G Tablet General

so is there gtablet and android for dumb people somewhere? seriously this g tblet is making me crazy...i am soo used to windows point and drag.
like the sd card...i tried to figure out the sd card and dont know how to save to it? like if i take a picture how do i put it on sd? can apps be saved on SD? this thing is gunna kill me! how do i download a movie to it from itunes rental or can i even? if not how do i get movies on the thing?!
very frustrated i must say

okay i figured out that if i hold my finger on the file it will open a manager...gives option to move delete past copy etc... is this how to do it...just copy and paste stuff?

Gtablet is my first android device and it took me a couple of days to get familiar with it and android. If I don't want how to do something, I just press either the "menu" button or hold my finger onto the screen for a few secs to see anything show up.. good luck!

Just google for android shortcuts, the OS works a bit different depending on device, but there are several common functions as well.
These might be interesting:

I feel your pain. There are a bunch of good people in here willing to help but even with them is hard. especially when you don't have a club what they are talking about.

Undelete From NAND

Hi guys...
I'm pretty new here. I hope I'm posting in the right place.
I'd like to know how to UNDELETE files from the internal memory of an HTC phone (It's a Raphael aka HTC Pro). I think the way is the same for every phone. But I searched and I didn't find anything usefull.
I hope you can help me... The phone is not mine (I have a Mogul) and I'm trying to understand how to do it for a good purpose
I'm testing some programs on the Mogul/Titan (with WM6.5) but nothing works. I tried wm5torage to try to see the partiotions, but it's not working. I tried NORMAL windows (I'm using windows 7 x64) undelete softwares but they can't recognise the phone memory. HEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP
I have a working Android 1.6 on the SD card... Linux based systems are usually good for that things hehehe so any solution with that OS is good too!
I understand technical stuff, so no problems with hard ways Any way to dump the memory and undelete from image file etc... Anything... I really need to find a way. The point is: Retrieve a deleted movie that can keep an innocent person out of prison. And sorry for my messy English too... I'm Italian.
Thanks!!!

If the purpose is this, then you need to send the phone to specialists, who will take memory chip out and read it externally. Every "turn on" or every attempt to retrieve data by internal means will just cut off the deleted video more.
They will put memory chip back in place after reading and the service don't cost extremely too much. I remember it's something like $200
search data recovery from chip. there is more results.

[Q] Viewsonic G Tab Memory issue

I have a Viewsonic G Tab that I flashed to Cyanogen 7. Now when I plug the device into my computer, it only reads the SD card I inserted (not the phone's internal memory). Plus, I can't use any file explorer programs to copy and paste from the SD card to the phone's memory. This is making things like flashing a different rom or adding the marketplace pretty much impossible. Any help? I'm new to rooting tabs, but I've hacked quite a few phones.
If there's a dev out there that has an answer that gets me up and running, I'd be more than happy to donate.

I have read other reports of this, though i don't have a solution for this problem, you could try something else.
When you are connected over usb, use adb from the android sdk and try "adb push file_on_computer file_on_device" to get some files on there.
Crap, I am not a programmer, and haven't gotten into using adb. I don't expect a full explanation of what adb is and how to get it and other android sdk stuff on my computer, as I know there are tons of posts and resources on this and other forums that will get me there.

Searching is always better , but i will give you some hints:
Download the SDK here
Install it.
Open the windows command prompt. (press windows button + R, type "cmd" , press enter)
If you installed it to "C:\android" go to "C:\android\platform-tools" inside the command prompt.
Type adb -h to see all available commands.
If you have further questions, google them, if you still have questions, come here and ask .
Cool, thanks. I bought this to try and save a few (hundred) bucks over the Xoom, and got the added bonus of getting to tweak it, which I kind of enjoy, I was just hoping to not have to learn this much stuff.
On a related note, if I get the device back to factory stock, do you know if I can download an app to my Android phone's SD card, drop the card into my Viewsonic, and load the apk from there? Loading the Android market on this thing sounds complicated (though it'll be child's play if I can bring it back to life).

Well if you want tweaking you will have to learn a bit .
Depends on the app. If it is copyprotected or is using the licensing service i don't think you can copy it over.
Cyanogen came with a copy of ROM manager pre-installed on boot. A lot of features were limited to the full version, but I managed to do some reformatting and stuff (I wish I knew exactly what I did) and managed to get a different ROM installed and all seems to be working well.
I don't mind learning, but I either have to do it while I'm at work, which takes me off the sales floor, or at home, and I have a new kid to take care of, so the less learning I *have* to do, the better. But the nice thing about Android is that it is for the most part fairly resilient, and I've yet to encounter a software problem I couldn't fix.

[Q] NOOB needs help!!!!

ok, I referred here by a friend after explaining what is going on.... my wife has a sharp FX plus... and it has been a problem since day one with the memory... I read the Q & A sticky, but don't know what I need to do in order to fix the problem so once I figure that out I should be ok.
the sharp says storage device is full on phone, if she gets two text messages it is full, she repeatedly daily has to uninstall games and erase all messages the phone does not give the option to move unused apps to the sd card or to erase unused apps, not to mention if she has mms on she can't receive texts and if she has text on she can't download mms.... like I said I'm new to all this... does anyone know how to fix this she loves the phone and the slide out keyboard and hates how big new phones are so I'm here to see if I can find a fix.... please help so I can put a smile on the wifes face!!!!
wow, not even a shot in the dark.... thats crazy.... I know there has got to be something....there is stuff all over the web so I guess I'm off to search.... I've softmodded alot of console so I should be able to get it down pretty quick, just need a direction to go.....
Need more info

What do you mean here... It sounds like your saying you have to "use" the app first in order for it to be moved or erased? Which im sure is not the case.
Respond with details of what ROM/ android version, build, memory option, etc. These are things needed to know before any help can be given because suggestions vary especially if you are rooted.
... But try this first, go to settings --> Storeage --> Internal memory and respond with either a screen shot or details if privacy is an issue. I would figure you will find the 'heavy' items there to delete... usually multimedia and not apps are the culprit.

I've been scammed, can someone help?

Okay, so I know that the title is vague, but let me explain.
I bought an £18 phone from Wish because I wanted something to mod and experiment with while not feeling remorse if I brick it. I get the phone, everything seems fine until I download an app. Or rather, try. It came with a lot of bloatware, none of it useful, and Cooee Launcher, I have a lot of experience with Cooee, it's basically a virus that uses your data and puts pop-ups onto the phone. I had it with my old XGODY Y13 (managed to sort it out and it had a good life until the charging port broke) so I know what I'm talking about. The issue is that when I went to download an app, it says there isn't enough space. Google Play is on version 4 and will not update. I go into the storage and it says 26GB free. I'm skeptical, so I go through the phone and look for files that have been installed onto the phone by the seller. 100+ photos of game assets. I remove them and have enough space to update Play Store and get Lucid Launcher.
A few days later, I go back to the phone and go into Storage to see if I missed anything. That's when I notice it. Other files displays 78MB. That wouldn't sound like much, but any storage on this thing is good. I can't go into it. I go onto Play Store and look at how much space is available. 78MB. Now, it is still displaying 26GB. So either, it's displaying it incorrectly all over the phone or they've made the 26GB unaccessible. I put on debug mode and go into the phone on my laptop. Guess what I can't get into? The phone's hard drive. So clearly, there's some kind of con going on here. Would there be any way to get that back or not? If the 26GB aren't actually there, why make such an effort as to make the hard drive inaccessible?
Can someone just help me understand what's going on?

Is Android11 w/One UI 3.0-no To Blame For My Micro SD card's recent behavioral changes?

I'm aware, that only a few of my comrades in
XDA'a
R
M
Y may be aware of this issue, and change since the migration to android 11. To help illustrate to you I recently, thru google takeout, downloaded my 45+gb gp music library, all to which it's destiny was sd card storage (as chosen thru my Chrome Browser settings). After all files were unzipped and transferred , the available storage space on my sd card hadn't charged! So yes, my sd card is OK too, as affirmation to one of the replies I received earlier stating since gaining Android 11 rhey hadn't seen any changes. And by ok, you nust mean the sd card doesn't unmount itself at will, or randomly throw-up an error msg like, "sd file corruption detected," just for giggles!
As stated earlier, only a handful of folks I know over on discord's SamCentral are aware of this change, so there's been little discussion of file allocation tables & tweaks, i.e., formatting FAT 32(or that's the current default)idk...this isn't my field but imo, I think they're saying currently everything is being shifted to external stg. '0' which is the common ground for all or most of Android O/S's, thus "arming" their decision with the "no purchase necessary" routine. Fact is, most folks don't require more than half-a-gig or more of on-board mobile device storage. "The needs of the many, outweigh the needs of the few, or the one."(RIP Mr. Spock, Leonard Nimoy). So,, if this smells like a patch of sorts to you, why haven't we heard anything, and when can some of us expect to get our money's worth for our sd card purchase(mine, 256gb = $100, in Spring of '19). Some of the "fake-news" spreaders over there(lol) are saying the most recent samsung shifts to Microsoft based apps/services & cross-syncing is the root of the cause, and they're probably getting closer to plotting a solution now that the big hill has been championed(ref. to And. 11 + One UI 3.0-no project completion)! I miss the functionality of not being able to use an interface I paid for!
(If any of this I've shared here fact-cks.out to be valid, and I become a hero of sorts, does this mean I may gain some of that XDA "street-cred" and snag a couple of likes)?!

This actually was a thought of mine shortly after being sworn-in as a beta-tester for Samsung's One UI 3.0h-no, last fall.
Is there a different format process for my sd card now with Android 11(and if so, why was I not consulted)?
Any guidance or insight on my query would be great. Carry on!

I updated to 11 and UI 3.0 about a week ago and not having any issues with my sdcard. Only problem I have is that my battery usage as more than doubled even after a FDR.

What exactly is the issue here? Not formatted? Can't see specific data? I went through the whole beta and now on release and my SD card is "exactly" the same as before with the exception that some apps can't see other apps' directories which is a "feature" from Google.

The real obvious missing link to me was, for instance, when I'm signed in and surfin on my browser(Chrome, Samsung Internet, etc) and I save/download a file, it doesn't actually get saved on the physical sd card like it did before, rather, the o/s leaves the file in a limbo state of sorts, with whatever browser app!? I got my n20u1_5G back in 9/20, so while on Q if I saved, d/led a file i.e., using Chrome, I would go thru my Files then sd, then Android, then data, then find chrome(com.google.shrome), and there she is!
But, since beta school, whilst on 11, I do my Lil routine(as b-4), and when I goto Android then data, there's nothing, no app files(google or Samsung, as there were b-4)!? I hope I'm explaining the deal well enough here, as I couldn't be alone with this issue! Anyone using a stg card knows what I'm saying that isn't to be seen anymore! I'm using the same 250gb (high-end) Samsung card as b4, when I purchased my handset thru b-buy.com last fall(see jpg).
(Sorry 4 delay in my reply)☠
"Android, then data, then find chrome(com.google.shrome), and there she is!"
BINGO. Yeah, that's NOT happening any more. Those folders are now SECURED from any other apps viewing them. Only the owning app can view. The files are probably there, nice and safe.
Right now I know of 3 ways to view them. Total commander file manager in the app store filed the appropriate request to google for "total access" and you can view them if you hook your phone up to a computer. The 3rd way is quite a bit uglier requiring you to make an activity to a legacy file manager that google accidentally left in android 11 but hid. I'd have to dig around a lot to find those instructions again.
It's called "SCOPED STORAGE"... Go read about it and cry.... I know I did.
So, NO, you aren't going nutz based on this. However, that doesn't preclude other ways to go nutz!!!!

Thanks for the reply...I've heard bits/pieces in talks with geek friends, and I appreciate your expertise here on this topic! But, why aren't the bytes getting gobbled -up(like when viewing sd card stg. available from the pull--down menu or from device care app)? I downloaded nearly 45 gb of audio files to my sd card, with absolutely no change there, but you see the stg reduction to internal storage. For what benefit, to them , google? Or just more of the ongoing sparing the two of 'em are constantly a part of! lol/smh
