No gingerbread yet.
I have no personal experience, but I read that once you unlock you are unlocked permanently. However, you can't unlock in every custom ROM (I think) so unlock first

Backup your /EFS folder and all its files, it is possible to lose the unlock and have the unlock code changed.. I had to rebuild my nv_data.bin file a couple times.
Flashing other ROMs will make changes to to product code and possibly the unlock code area of the nv_data.bin file - so back it up.

Here's some info that may help you.

I hope you get it working.
just flash back to jf6 and get your unlock code. Keep it somewhere safe and if you ever need it again you have it at your disposal.

I tried that also but the 1.0 version says I am missing the file.
The file the unlock tool is looking for has been moved and encrypted when you install the new Froyo ROM. Even if you flash back to 2.1 ROMs, you won't have that file back. I read that somewhere there is a thread in dev section to help you recover from that but it will be very difficult thing to do because this file is not part of the firmware (each phone has a different file/unlock code).
What you should have done is unlock first in 2.1, save the unlock code somewhere and flash to Froyo firmware. The unlock code for your phone will never chang (based on your phone's IMEI number).
Right now I am kicking myself I didnt save the unlock code somewhere =(

Then you're probably screwed. You have to wait until you can get one from AT&T.
I have this AT&T Captivate with JH7 update. Please help me unlock this. I tried using SGS Unlocker from market but it doesn't work. Please help me as I am located in India and could no longer go to United States.
Take a peek in the dev section. There's a 1 click unlock tool (for mac and pc) floating around.

The one click unlock is for the earlier firmware...it doesnot work for the Android 2.1 update 1 firmware.

The one-click unlock app DOES work on a rooted captivate with Android 2.1 update 1 firmware (JH7).
The SGS app works on rooted phones with JH7 update
This will work for you it worked for me
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8983897&postcount=103
Make sure you are rooted with busy box, oneclick root worked for me
Make sure you read the instructions
This will let you specify your own unlock code and will unlock your phone
can you provide the link again please.
just edited my previous post sorry
Unlocked
Thanks for the help....unlocked my captivate by first rooting it and then downloaded SGS Unlocker from market.

give me the exact procedure dude
No Confusion Procedure:
1. Root your phone with One Click Root and you may do so by following the Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oE-96NooV40&feature=related
2. Download and Install SGS Unlocker from the Android Market.
3. Open SGS Unlocker and press the menu button and Select "Root Gen Codes" button.
4. You will get Unlock code and Unfreeze Code. Write it down safely somewhere for future reference.
Noob unlocked his AT&T Captivate like this
This is how I was able to unlock my Captivate.
New method (post-JH7)
The following method has been confirmed to work after the JH7 update. It does however require root.
Download and install "Android Terminal Emulator" from the Market. In Terminal Emulator, type:
su
busybox grep -E "^[0-9]{8}$" /efs/nv_data.bin
The unlock code will show up. Write it down for later use.
Many Thanks to who ever figured this out. You are my HERO.
Thank You from wingrovedl
I have LG nitro HD locked to AT&T, I have cyanogenmod ROM. I do have unlock code.
I'm trying to carrier unlock, but when I insert "not accepted" SIM card it doesn't ask for unlock code.
So I try the other method - dial 2945#*930# and nothing happens.
What can I do?

it's the cyanogen rom for sure, I don't think lg would know..
from what I have seen on my phone and other phones if you are using CM7/CM9 or possibly other custom roms that are not based on the stock rom you will not be able to use some of the dialer codes. that could be the reason you are not able to unlock the phone. you will need to flash a stock rom and unlock the phone. then you can go back to your rom and have the phone unlocked

i wish those codes would work on custom roms, like CM
Hi smashcz, did you flash a stock ROM, then you are able to unlock the phone? i have exactly some problem, without unlock, i did my flash.
so first question, there is no other way can unlock after flash a new ROM? second, where did you get "Sotck ROM"? from LG website or from backup? i did backup before flash, could i restore it?
Have a T Mobile P500 running Android 2.3.5, Cyanogenmod 7.1.0-RC1
want to unlock using code 2954#*500# to access the PIN unlock screen and input my code but this doesn't come up.
"theunlock.ca" informed me that problem is with cyanogenmod, so do I need to restore root ROM first, unlock, then reinstall mod, or is there another way to unlock this phone with the code I got?
p.s. if you talk codespeak I might have to ask to translate

Did you enter the right code 2945#*500# instead of 2954#*500# which is mentioned above? If you didn't get the box to enter the code, chances are you have to go back to the stock rom. Cyanogenmod most likely doesn't include the unlocking. If you go back to stock rom make a nandroid backup first, so you don't have to install it all over again.

my bad, did put in right code first time, guess I need to revert to stock ROM (but my backups are all cyanogen), any advice as to where to find that?
My plan is to flash it off sd card from recovery, hopefully unlock, then do an install of CM 10 instead of CM 7
success
was able to flash the stock ROM and then the unlock code worked
now.......
should I go back to CM 7, or all the way to CM 10?
hi
JUst want to understand, when you root a phone ,do i need the carrier firmware (i think you call it roms)
Cause my phone was under telus and i just did the unlock by a web site and they me send a code...
My phone is under vigin now (unlock)
What do i need to root it , the stock firmware ,or the one from bell(since it the same as virgin)
I saw that link for the carrier firmware http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
after i root it, can i flash it to jelly bean
Thanks
nobody?
Your question is very confusing because of the English you use and mixed up terminologies, plus you don't even say what kind of phone it is. To root it, you'll need ADB or Odin. When you root, you will load new software on the phone, typically a ROM.
A Telus ROM is basically the same as ATT, GSM. You should start there and search for the right APN for your carrier.
Get CM10 for ATT. Then look up the virgin APN info. There are app store apps to fix/set APN info.
YouTube has video to show you how. Google for your answers.

sorry im french
but if im unlock why do i have to use a rom from virgin
Unlock and root are 2 different things. Unlock (or SIM unlock) means you can use your phone with any carrier. Root means you have access to all files on your phone (this is like being "administrator" in a Windows computer, as opposed to being a "limited user" or "standard user"). To use the iPhone analogy, rooting your
Android phone is like jailbreaking your iPhone.
So, what do you really want to do with your device? I'm guessing you want to put JellyBean on it. If that's true, you must:
Root your device
Install a custom recovery
Download a custom ROM which was designed to run on your device
Use the custom recovery to install the ROM onto your phone
thanks
But if i dont want that triangle ,i gonna use that method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
And my phone was under telus and i have unlock it to use it under virgin.
I gess i have the rom from telus!!??
So i root it with the rom from telus or bell(virgin)????
And after that i can put jelly bean without tripping the counter.
Thanks
OP, not sure what you are trying to accomplish by your title in your post, but seem you have the answer/method you are looking for..
