US Samsung Galaxy S varients froyo update!!! - General Topics

I had a chat with samsung online and they said that the froyo update for the us galaxy s varients should be releasing in the upcoming days!!

I call bull**** on what the rep said
Face the cruel reality we are not getting an offical froyo

I got mine from XDA. It's funny how Samsung and carriers take forever to test...but a smaller group here at XDA can get the job done faster.

It's probably true to appease the pissed off SGS users. Their promise are way overdue. Fortunately, I found XDA, otherwise, I'd be one of those pissed off users now too. But this whole experience will make me think twice next time when thinking about another Samsung phone.

Those tweets are like form letters.
Sounds like a broken record to me. I actually feel sorry for the customer service reps that have to put up with this stuff though, they're not at fault for the lack of updates but have to catch all our heat over it while their superiors giggle and release another Galaxy S with 4G slapped on the cover to make it seem different.
Cognition 3 is built off of an official 2.2 release for a Captivate (Canada's).
I just flashed it, works great. It's like a stock ROM but better. Have had NO PROBLEMS.

Good lord, they have been spewing that claptrap since January 1, the day after the original company line was "we'll have froyo to you before the end of the year."
Well i can return my Captivate until jan 30. If it comes out before then I may keep it, otherwise return and hold out for the Motorola Atrix most likely.
same old same old. Im buying an atrix at release most likely.
captivates a great phone with outdated weak software.
Yawn. They've been working on it for months.

Samsung is not going to release Gingerbread. Mark my words. That is not how they do business. Need Gingerbread, buy a Galaxy S II, is going to be their motto.
Or Nexus S... or Nexus one...
We got our one update for this phone. Now it's up to the developers, if we ever get anything better.

It does matter wether they release it. A lot of the drivers are available in binary form only, as they are proprietary. Having Gingerbread compatible drivers available from Samsung can help withdeployment of CM7. IIRC, what slowed down CM 6.1 was the lack of Froyo drivers from Samsung.

2.3.4 Official?

Was told by tech support this morning that the official version of Android is now 2.3.4 as of today. Will we see anything actually released today or are they talking out of their rears??????
I was told 2 weeks ago that it was out and that my 2.2 phone was out of date and he asked me when I was going to upgrade, they have no clue
Currently Pinnacle 1.2 and have never been happier

I frankly wouldn't bother to even ask ATT/Samsung cause they always seem to have their heads up their ass when it comes to OS upgrades. I'd wait and be patient because the SamFirmware twitter said his "reliable source" told him we should be seeing 2.3.5 in the "near future". That was on their twitter feed a few weeks back.
I second that sam firmware seems to be the only source that isn't BS.

I haven't been tracking SamFirmware as close as I used too. Did they mention it for Galaxy S phones in general or did they specifically mention the Captivate? Let's remember that ATT has a track record of being behind the game when it comes to update releases.

I was recently on chat with Samsung and they said they didn't know if or when it was coming out and they would rather give no info so as to not give incorrect info...how pc!
I know that "sit back and wait" is our only option, but i fear that by the time samsung's official GB build and source code will be released for the captivate, we won't have much devs willing to put time and effort into this.
I was told my replacement device was coming with 2.2 and it would have an insert on how to update it to 2.3.4. Sounds like a huge fish story to me now. I guess that they require every CSR has to BS the customer to make ATT sound better.

Eh... I think we are aware of that. The point is, ATT is busy porting GB over to the new phones where new sales are. But there's no or less money in doing so for the existing phones aside from new Infuse sales.

AT&T doesn't do the porting - Samsung does and AT&T delays the updates.
It was barely acceptable to release a Froyo phone when the Infuse was released - a Froyo-on-release phone would be dead in the market now.

What do you think would be the motivation for AT&T to delay the updates; especially for their just-released SGS2? The only thing I can think of is needing to beef up support needs. But then again, versus the lost sales.
I had just finally convinced a buddy to go with the Android o/s and especially the Infuse or the SGS2. Then he came around citing his research that both phones are really behind the curve and that he minimally wants a GB phone now.

[Confirmed] Skyrocket will receive ICS this Summer

Lets just say I have an...informator. Anyway, I texted him and asked if he knew when ICS was coming for the Skyrocket. He released the skyrocket under his wing. He said not a specific date, but sometime this summer.

They sell you a device they got paid, they get nothing by providing timely upgrades,

If I had to guess I bet the Prime has one hardware revision, and the galaxy even within the same device branding has multiple. The Windows Phone 7 Samsung Focus had major issues with updates, because Samsung made minor changes between rev 1.3 & 1.4.
As far as the release date for ICS a Samsung employee can just be repeating a rumor they heard, just as well as a non employee
When does samsung start their summer? I'm sure it's not the same months when we start ours.
Just like our Q1 isn't the same as theirs. Oh and the definition of soon between us and them seems to be pretty conflicting too.
