Maybe I'm just an idiot, but can someone tell me how to add apps to the empty spots on the second screen of the new car dock? Thanks.
Anyone know?
I second this. Looks like you should be able to add any shortcut you'd like.
Maybe that will be fixed in the official release of Froyo

I sure as hell hope so.
or maybe they are there for certain apps to take advantage of? which apps i have no clue
just a guess.
i agree, they put those spots there, must be for a reason. I would love to be able to add shortcuts to navigate to common places like home. If this is possible there will be no need for me to attempt making my own car dock app.

There is already a good one: http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.bigfwoosh.customcarhome
Even if its not directly settable I'm sure its moddable

doesn't look like that is for our resolution though
Even with the final, official release of Froyo, the Car Dock app still has these unused slots. There doesn't appear to be any way to customize the empty buttons. What gives here?
I tried looking for the car home code on googles git hub.
Did'nt find it but it should be there...somewhere.
I was thinking one of the chefs can add some code to populate the blanks and give us an updated apk we can all use
Some interesting things.
1) car home added to the sdk
http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=pl...6;hp=139e33243bbe92858f39919c220a4d65fe8790bd
This also tells us that its built by the sdk.mk build file
2) the "sdk" git project
http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=platform/sdk.git;a=tree
3) all the projects
http://android.git.kernel.org/
Grrrrrrrrrr.
hey everybody,
just got my brand new cardock and played a bit with the 2.2 brand new car home..
It's pretty cool and easy to use but there's something that can make it maybe even better : what about those empty spots on the "second" page? You've got maps, settings, brightness and then 3 empties...
I'm wondering if there's any dev out there willing to mod the app and try to get those empty spots customizable;
What if we could set a direct sms , or direct call, or custom app launch on one of those empty spots? Maybe even better if we could have more than 2 pages...
This is just an idea, but I hoestly don't have the needed tech skilss to make this happen so... anybody willing to contribute/help/make the dream come true?
Everybody's contribution is well appreciated
This is somethine also I want. I want spotify on that second page.
/Söder
Agreed. Would be nice to add apps to those empty spots.

Has anyone dug into the code and see if the carhome has shortcut intents?
Since there's no way to actually modifiy from the UI, I think that's how google may have coded it.
This is a great idea for a mod. I've used the Car Dock V.2 app in the past, but went back to the stock Car Home. I have zero skill in coding, but I wonder if it wouldn't be simpler to create a car home app that retains the look of the Google app, but with some similar functionality to Car Dock V.2 (long press icons to add shortcut, change icon, etc... and add maybe add extra screens). I don't know about the rest of you, but the Exit Car home annoys me too. I much preferred it in 2.1 when you could go into the standard launcher, but the home key would take you back to the car home. Just a couple of thoughts.
I know this is my first post, but I really think the car app is one of those where the stock app, just misses the boat.
So, glad to see some of you feel the same needing of a better car dock app...
I really hoped holiday time could bring a dev/coder to take a look at this thread, but it seems like some more advertising is indeed needed!

Looks like Car Home is proprietary Google software like GMail. I couldn't find any source and/or the ability to use shortcut intents
Prof-KOS is probably right, would be easier just to make a look alike
I think Google did a very disappointing job on with car dock in froyo
For now I have configured one screen of adw launcher with things I need for car mode. Then I have installed dock nothingness to disable the car home. And also car dock settings app to switch on-off Bluetooth etc...
Is it possible to even color the car dock icons, maybe with a morph???
Hey guys, did you try custom car home?
It's doing pretty much what I was looking for so if anybody is interested may give it a try
Let me know your thoughts, It's pretty basic but usefull for me

Google just updated the Android Car Home, now it's a stand alone app and customizable.
Great! Too bad I can't update through the market with CM6, guess because it's a system app..
Could anybody post the app or remind me the adb commands to do the trick?

ye, anyway I found my way out with adb so made it on time and got it from the market... is it really disappeared in the meantime? Saw also modaco tweeting about that...
[EDIT]
I pulled out the apk if anybody should need it...
I had two Car Home 2.2's in Titanium Backup-- one was "CarHomeGoogle.apk" and one was "CarHomeLauncher.apk"
I deleted both of them, and now there's no icon for Car Home-- I have a feeling I shouldn't have deleted CarHomeLauncher, but I forgot I needed to reboot after I removed CarHomeGoogle. D'oh.
Anyone have that launcher apk?
moskuito, I couldn't get that apk you posted to install by directly downloading it from here to my phone

I found this on the AppBrain:
http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.h9kdroid.multicon
MultIcon it's called.
Very cool concept where you can place four icons in the space of one widget. Each is completely functional. pretty much to me meant a cleaner interface and 4x as many icons/widgets to place in 1/4 the space.
Just figured I'd put it out there for anyone else who might be interested.

yep been using it a few days pretty cool..i only use 1 ( 4 mini icons in 1) I dont wanna have millions of icons bunched up either lol..but 1 multi widget helped give me those extra couple of apps i needed on my screen
been using it for a couple of days also, been working great. I wish it would support widgets, but i am not going to complain. I recommend it

Whatcha' talkin' about willis? it supports widgets, three of the 8 in the left hand-side multicon I use are widgets.
You try to assign any?
i have almost all my apps in multicon form lol
Nice, I'll have to try this out.
nice, thanks for the tip.
There is no icon for 4G or GPS. I hope they fix this soon.
I've used this before, sometimes I ask this myself if it would be using just a teensy bit of the battery because its a widget? Sorry if it sounds like a noob question, but that's something I want to know.
More Icons Widget has been out for a very long time and does the same thing, its a great little app. Haven't tried this one out though. Hopefully its as good.
Great app. Been using it since it came out and did 4 icons only. Now you can do 3x4 (12 icons) in a 1x1 space. Only thing I would like added is a way to save your configuration. Pain to setup all my icons again after a wipe and new rom.

If you use TI Backup to backup your programs including MultiICon, it will restore fine on any new ROM. I just did it.
I've been pairing this one with QuickDesk.
Now I double tap the Home button, a drawer slides out, and every txt and voice number I call on a regular basis are all in one spot. Something like 25+ icons all in one place, without cluttering my home screens. Saves a ton of time instead of digging through the phone book over and over.
Yep, it's a fantastic app, keep spreading the word!
Similar app!
I had an app widget that would go across the hole screen and it would fit a lot of apps but i forget what it was called. Maybe it's this app in fact.. not sure until i try this out

Was it Launch-X? With Launch-X, you can squeeze 2 rows of icons @ 7 icons per row where normally you have 4 icons wide. You can backup all your different rows too.
Launch-X Pro - free version available too
I use a combination of Launch-X Pro and MultIcon.
looks similar and better maybe the one i use to have was an older version thank you for the info im downloading it now!
Has anyone stumbled across a similar app that does the same thing only horizontally? This works great for my home screen (1 HTC flip clock + 12 icons) but would like to be able to do 5 across on other screens. The 4x(any number) is generally either too big, too small, or oddly spaced...

Can you elaborate? Whenever I restore from Titanium, my homescreen shows dead icons in place of all my multicons & I have to delete these placeholders & create new multicon widgets. When I create a new MI widget, it randomly restores some of my previously configured widgets but never all of them. Sometimes it will restore a very old widget that I haven't used in some time. Either way, I have no control over it & always have to reconfigure some from scratch.
Been using this forever man, I love it! I usually use 3 rows by 2 columns. I like ease and accesibility, and this widget app puts so much more at my fingertips.
Hi I was watching a browser speed test video on androidcentral and they had a galaxy s phone and when they pulled down the notification bar at the top were a set of power buttons letting you turn on blue tooth, wifi or gps from any screen (really useful IMO)
So i ws wondering if this was part of touchwiz or an app or something we can port to the droid x. I find myself wantng to turn on wifi bt and gps alot in apps and ont want to go to the home screen to do it. i think this is so cool, anyone can elaborate?
thanks!
i believe it's part of touchwiz and it IS very handy. i don't use it all the time but it's a lot easier than finding the screen with the quick toggles.....if you're even using them.
Yea my friend has the one for T-mobile and i didnt' know it till i pulled down the notification bar, and I thought the same thing...sooo useful. I use my phone for navi a lot and it's annoying to go through screens to find the widget.
Quick Desk Beta
Check out the app Quick Desk Beta its essentially the same idea but instead of pulling your notification bar down you double press your home button and it pulls up a transparent screen that you can put any widgets on like wifi toggle or your music player. I used it all the time with my D1 when id be on a web page and forget to turn wifi on or want to listen to music while on the web but not want to go home and find the widgets then back to browser. I just got the DX and haven't tried it yet on it im still figuring out all these new moto blur things but i would think it should work with the DX. Hope that helps you out alittle

thanks i will check it out, but i do once in a while use the double tap of the home button for voice dial on my x, but that shouldnt b needed anymore once we get froyo and the new voice search app from google.
i still would like to have this in notification bar and wonder if it could be done as an app or as a theme mod or what. IF anyone has any ideas how this can be ported? maybe i can request a port in the DX android dev forum?
Yes a friend and my inlaws have the Galaxy and I would love to have something like this for the X.
Check out the app Quick Settings. Lets you put whatever settings in there you want. It's not as pretty, but really useful.

I would really love this too. I know the Galaxy S has it and certain ROMs have it but I'm not willing to root my DX quite yet.
i use quick settings as well, works really good.
Also you can download the app called Homesmack which can allow you to program the search hard button on the X to bring up the quick settings app. pretty convenient when i want to turn on wifi or bluetooth etc on the fly and saves space on home screens

this is the only feature i miss from when i had my Captivate.....i can only hope the guys at team defuse can get this to work on the X!
I use MySettings. It works very well.
Hey what's up guys. I saw today that android wear has a way to pay for your drinks at Starbucks with your watch. I was seeing if we have any good devs out here that can make this possible for our gear 2?
I can't find any app that I can use a widget with wearable Widgets so that's out of the question :c....
Anybody?
Edit: I've found a solution.
Open your Starbucks card in the Coffee Card app found in the play store. (has a little android holding a cup)
Screen shot the barcode, crop it to just show the barcode.
Then using wearable Widgets app for Gear 2, select picture frame widget and select your cropped bar code. Now you can scan that at the checkout :good: ?
Yes, someone figured out the screenshot the barcode trick quite a while ago, but I never tried using Wearable Widgets to show it. Seemed faster for me to just open the gallery app as I made the barcode the very first pic. Wearable Widgets always had a bit of lag to get to my widgets so I save that for other items.

Yes I see that they added some improvements recently. The problem is the more widgets you add for it to sync, the more lag and overhead is introduced. I'd rather reserve that for the dashboard widget I made and my home automation widgets. That way there's less taps/swipes to get to my starbucks code - as right now it takes me a swipe and 2 quick taps to show the code and with my Wearable Widgets setup, it would take me a swipe and 3 at the minimum.

I have mine set as a 3rd widget on my watch. I have the wearable Widgets clock face. So I have the cLock widget as my watch face, a calendar on the second and my code on the 3rd.
So I turn on the watch and tap it twice to get to mine.
I'm hoping the development can port over the feature he has for Android wear, where you just tap the side of the watch instead of touching the screen to change the widget.

Ah, I should investigate the watch face they have then. It's just so hard to give up Multi-Watch with its infinite customization and 3x3 launcher.

This thread is pretty old, but based on another thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/smartwatch/gear-s3/tried-starbucks-app-t3669596 this is still an issue for Samsung Gear/Galaxy watches. There is a starbucks app now for Samsung - see the thread above.
What concerns me is that it took 4 years for an app!?! I'm wondering how small the Samsung market share must be when major brands don't even bother release an app for Samsung. (Android + Apple have had this a long time).
Since Tizen is Linux based, maybe someone will add a compatibility layer to allow Wear apps to run on Tizen. They will be slower, but at least there will be useful apps
