I can get keyboards installed and have the option to choose them. But it always force closes immediatley... is there supposed to be more than just an .apk file?

Make sure that the keyboard is compatible with the android version ur rom is based out of.
Well that would be my prob. - no .lib files - only .apk files.... where can i find keyboards that have both?

Hey guys,
I got this keyboard working for the Eris(And any other ARMv6 phones), and figured you guys might want it as well:

Wrong forum.
No its the right forum. Just a genuine link to a post he's already made.
And it works.
this is my fave KB, hands down.
heading over to the other thread to see what this is all about.
curious? is this flashable? or "pushed"?
EDIT: I see now (and below) that this is a push. @ work, no ADB shell here... looking forward to your flashable. ;-) when you get around to it, no hurry man. and thanks for your work!

does the spacebar fully function in this one? i heard there was problems with another droidx keyboard that was released not too long ago. thats why i didn't download it. can someone confirm?
I just tried to install this using the instructions, and I must be missing something. I pushed both files to the right directories and they show up there, but I see any option to actually use the keyboard. It doesn't show up under settings->keyboards or when I try to choose the input method from an input box. Any ideas?
The multi touch on it doesn't work right anyways. It gets all screwy when I try and use it, pushing wrong letters and crap. Like I hold shift, hit y and it types b

I've not had any issues with the spacebar. I've been using this keyboard regularly since yesterday with working multitouch and space
Works great, multi-touch and all. Thanks!

You have to push the apk over the default LatinIME.apk in /system/app

What do you mean "over"? I've pushed the apk to /system/app and the libjni_latinime.so to /system/lib. Now what?
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
I've even removed the android keyboard all together (so now I have no latinime.apk). Still won't install. Downloaded twice with same result.
Edit: nevermind i fixed it. Had to delete the LatinIME tutorial then reboot. The spacebar doesn't work half the time though. Ahhhhh!

That's because the Hero screen doesn't support multiple inputs crossing axis. Download a multitouch Visualizer from the market and you'll see what I mean.

Yeah, I've done this a few times now. Whenever I type a few letters now on the default android keyboard now it FCs, though.
edit: Just removed the tutorial and it didn't change anything. Do I need to rename the file included in the OP and completely replace the LatinIME.apk?
Before the froyo update I had the option to "preview" or "download" for media files, but now it only shows "preview". Tried opening and hitting menu to see if its just buried now.
My question is....if I can find the .apk for the newest version of gmail (from before froyo) and install it on froyo, are there any issues that could possibly arise?

Yes you can. Go into a message, hit menu button, select "more" or whatever its called, and there's an option to select text.

Downloaded and installed, didn't fix the issue outlined in my original post.
Any other ideas? How do I save files (not pictures) that are emailed?

Don't think you can (unfortunately). I tried to download a .txt and .zip file and wasn't able to d/l either. I tried everything I could.
The most I could do was preview the .txt.
Not sure why they wouldn't allow this (perhaps security?), but they should definitely allow the option to d/l stuff.

No I can't. It's kind of frustrating.
Do you still have the .apk? If so, try installing it using astro, or some other file manager.

Hey Guys,
is there any possibility to install the Samsung Keyboard, because on Purumod 2.4 is the Keyboard replaced with the Siine Keyboard. But i don't like it very well.
If possible with a "how-to install" comment
Daniel
You can download apk file of Samsung keyboard from Dharam's collection of stock apps or copy stock keyboard from another ROM to your sd card from /system/apps/keyboard .
Then copy the apk and paste it in /system/apps/ using root explorer.
Reboot your phone and enjoy the Samsung keyboard
Search in xda for Dharam's collection of stock apps

Alternative= Try this: If you have tar file of any froyo ROM then simply extract it and in the system apps you will find the keyboard.
Copy and paste it in your/system/apps

No problem, but I really like your ROM Good Work
I have recently installed the Android SDK and found that i could pull system apps form emulators! i used this to get all android apps that i thought would be cool to have and these are the ones i could get to work with no root.
Calculator
DevTools (Development)
Spare Parts
DeskClock
Email
Custom Locale
Music
Terminal Emulator(Can be found in DevTools)
The apps that I tried that DON'T work are:
Launcher
Browser
I don't know if Gallery works or not... i haven't had the chance to try.
EDIT: sorry for cutting off... accidentally hit submit then internet went out :/
EDIT: added more apps that work and linked Gallery for you guys to try out.

If your using the XDA app, click dpwnload then use a file manager and go to mnt/sdcard/xda-downloads then click the one you want to install.
If not, click the link then use a file manager to go to mnt/sdcard/downloads and click the one you want to install.

So the email app is different than the stock Kindle email? I may have to check that one out.
